This place is amazing!! You can substitute the bread with rice paper and they are huge! I really enjoyed this place; they are not skimpy with the filling.

It does however always have a long line so order ahead! Totally recommend.

Straight up delicious!! They may not be your traditional Vietnamese sub, but it doesn't matter. I can't even name my favourite. This is a must go when you are in the area. Take an iced coffee to go too!!

Based on today's visit. I give this place a 3.5-4
DD Mau is in a great location, and the interior is so cute! I love the rustic yet new and modern look. Very nicely done.
I got the tofu lemongrass sub on a multigrain bun and my fiancé got the bbq duck sub on a white bun.
Mine was pretty good and my fiancé said he liked his.
I think some more sauce in it would be good.
I wana go back and try a noodle bowl :)

Hearing so many great things about the bread they use in the bahn mi here I had to try it for myself. They were also featured on, ‘You Gotta Eat Here’. So I literally had to eat her to find out WHY! Although it is on average a bit pricier than your average bahn mi at Vietnamese sandwich shops but after my first bite I now know why!

Love this place. Had the chicken lemongrass sandwich. It was absolutely delicious. Also tried lychee green tea which was tasty and delicious. The only downside is that it's one of those pricier vietsub places.

Where to Eat: DD Mau, 1239 Pacific Boulevard, VancouverHours of Operation: Daily, 10:30 am – 8 pmWhat to Eat: Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi $7, Honeydew Smoothie with Almond Milk $4.50Catering : YesDelivery:  foodsters.ca/ddmau. I visited DD Mau one morning before my Gourmet Tour as I had bought a VanEats pass a few weeks ago which gets you two half sandwiches and a smoothie (Note: they do not usually sell their sandwiches by halves). I ordered the Roasted Pork with Crackling and Garlic Aioli Banh Mi, Grilled Lemongrass Chicken with Sweet Chili Aioli Banh Mi and a Honeydew Smoothie with Almond Milk. While I was waiting for my order, I chatted with the owner, Kim, about the origin of the name DD Mau. Apparently the name is a play on words and means go go quickly. It’s used by American military returning from the Vietnam War and Vietnamese immigrants. You’ll also hear it used in the movie The Deer Hunter.

This place is always packed. I really enjoyed their lemongrass sub but felt that it was fairly over priced compared to other Vietnamese places, it was also quite thin for a banh mi.

The banh mis are very good and everything is prepared fresh, so it's a nice place to go for a quick lunch meal. The vermicelli doesn't stand out, but get it with a fried egg for some extra flavour and gooey goodness.

I love the subs here! The flavors are amazing and I love how they have unconventional concoction. I loved the pork with kimchi and the traditional Bahn mi. My only complain is the bread. It is a bit too hard and I would have loved it if the bread is more traditional.

Yes, yes and yes. I have always loved Vietnamese subs, and this place took the traditional and simple style sandwich and mixed it up in an even better way. It's all about the bread and delicious, crisp fresh combination of ingredients in these sandwiches that blow your mind. Pretty sure they either bake there own bread fresh every day too. Something to ask for next time!

DD Mau is one of my go-to places in Yaletown for a light lunch or snack.  They offer delicious Vietnamese sandwiches, otherwise known as bánh mì .  These sandwiches are served on a fresh baked baguette with cucumbers, pickled radish, carrots, cilantro and jalapeños.  This post reflects my experiences at DD Mau on several occasions. Did You Know? The Wikipedia entry shows that Bánh means bread and mi means wheat. It is a product of French colonialism and combines ingredients from the French (such as baguette, pâté and mayonnaise) with Vietnamese ingredients. DD Mau Bánh Mì The sandwiches cost $7.50 for the full and $4 for the half.  I would recommend the full order even as a snack as it is not very big.  I would consider the prices to be fair given the area. My regular sandwich order at DD Mau is the lemongrass chicken with house marinated chicken thighs and sweet-chili aioli. The baguette is dense and crunchy and the chicken pieces are tender. I love the sweetness of the sandwich from the aioli. DD Mau Vermicelli Bowls I have also had vermicelli bowls with two items ($8.80).  You can also order the bowl with three items for $10.80.  The chicken and pork vermicelli bowl was light and delicious.  The proteins were sweetly marinated. I also really enjoyed the vermicelli bowl with pork and spring rolls .  Wow, I *loved* the spring rolls:  light, crispy and indulging with that bit of mayo. Save with Apps What I like about DD Mau is that they have loyalty rewards.  I use a mobile payment system called Pay With to pay for my meal.  Because I use the app, I can get $10 dollars to spend at DD Mau after spending $100. DD Mau also has their own app ( Apple and Android ) but I have not used it.  I heard that it is a great way to avoid the line-ups. Overall Impression For some tasty and light sandwiches or rice noodle bowls in Yaletown, I would recommend DD Mau.  I will be sure to keep collecting loyalty points as I keep dining there! Fresh Ingredients. As a regular and neighbor to these folks I feel like chiming in to some of these reviews.
Is it more expensive than somewhere on...kingsway say, yes. But I imagine their rent is in the vicinity of at least double.
As for the bread and filling, they make it all in house since the smell of delicious-ness wafts over every morning as my mouth drools until they open hours later.
For the quality and location this place will remain one of my tops in the area!

DD Mau has the essentials down for what makes a decent banh mi along with some new twists that makes traditional banh mis more interesting. Expect the well paired combos and general feel good yummy satisfaction of the modern sandwich (that's had a small facelift) but not your traidtional authentic Viet sub, that you can get elsewhere in east van for half the price.

The best vietnamese sup you will get. Period. If you want a sandwich, you will pay the same for a sub-par/sub-way sandwich or you could have a freshly bbq'ed pork or duck on a baguette. Order the crispy pork and add kimchi. You'll thank me for it.

You've Gotta Eat Here!!!. This little shop in Yaletown makes the best Vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi’s) in Vancouver. For only $7 you can treat your tastebuds to a selection of delicious banh mi’s and enjoy them right there or take them across the street into the park along the seawall, overlooking the harbour. Talk about great location!!! These banh mi’s are perfect for sharing, so make sure to bring a friend and go half-sies…because trust me, you will want to try all of them. I highly recommend trying the BBQ duck (be sure to get there early, otherwise it might be sold out).

I came to Vancouver for a visit, and over the course of a 3 day weekend, I’ve tried the Lemongrass Chicken, BBQ pork, BBQ duck and Crispy Roasted Pork. If only I had one more day…then maybe I could have tried the Honey Garlic Beef Dip or the Lemongrass Tofu. I really hope that they start considering expanding soon. It would make me soooooo happy to see one in Calgary!!!

The best part about these subs is watching them prepare it. They grab this mini baguette, open it up…then they reveal the freshly prepared, steaming hot meat, its heavenly aroma teases your senses...then next is the veggies…cucumbers, cilantro, jalapeno peppers and my personal favorite…the pickled carrots and daikon! Nice change from the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles…etc. It amazes me every time, how they can cram all that goodness into such a mini baguette. I appreciate that they don’t skimp on the meat…most places have their meat portioned on paper trays that is less than a spoonful for a 6 inch and hope to deceive you with other low grade fillers.

DD Mau uses only the freshest ingredients and you can tell. Once you take that first bite into your baguette…it’s just shocking how much flavor comes through! The first thing you notice is how aromatic the meat is…you know that someone has spent ALL night marinating them. Those carrots and daikon, I can’t seem to get enough of them…they are such a perfect pairing. The bread is crunchy, the meat is plenty, combined with refreshing cucumber and cilantro, topped off with carrots and daikon…PERFECTION!!!

Honorable Vietnamese Delight !. I read about this place in the paper a few weeks ago .... since I love traditional Vietnamese food so much I thought it would be fun to try something a bit more modern. WOW ! Nestled in a cozy spot in Yaletown it was easy to find parking right out front. It was busy so my food took a bit long to come, however it was well worth the wait. I ordered the lemon grass chicken sandwich and it was packed with meat, pickled veg, egg and garlic aioli. For only $7 this is one of the bests deals in the city! Even possible to share they are so big! Friendly young staff as well. DEF GOING BACK ASAP :)

Not Traditional But Good!. What they serve isn't a traditional Vietnamese baguette but they aren't trying to serve traditional Vietnamese baguette, it's a riff on those classics and they do it well. I had the Lemongrass Tofu baguette, it was delicious, carrots and cucumber were crunchy, sauce was tasty and the bread was fresh. Maybe not as cheap as places on Kingsway but it's in Yaletown.

Mmmm... vietnamese buns.... I went to DD Mau tonight with a group of local food lovers/bloggers and really enjoyed the experience. I got the Classic bun and found it packed with fresh, crunchy veggies and delicious meats. The sandwich was so packed I kept having to stuff the contents back in before taking my next bite. The only thing I would have liked to see was a spreadable, stronger tasting pate (more liver please!). I just love the texture of a soft pate on a crispy bun.

We also sampled the avocado smoothie and whoa was that creamy and wonderful. Not too sweet, with a wonderful texture.

There are many Vietnamese restaurants serving nice sandwiches. DD Mau at Yaletown is one of them. It’s pretty small inside and the seats are limited, but we love the decorations~ Very tidy too. Menu on the wall. You can add eggs, pate and kimchi!! Wow! I thought I was in a Chinese restaurant when I saw these, haha. And reminds me of Meat & Bread  at Gastown and Pender also. Looks very attractive, hehee. Cocos~Pure 100% Refreshing. I personally think it’s not sweet enough. We ordered the two bestsellers. Roast Pork Inside it’s the BBQ pork. With the crunchy bread and the crunchy pork skin…Mmmm~~~ Grilled Lemongrass Chicken The taste is very different from the roasted pork. This is lighter and more refreshing. Both are good. We love their bread very much. The size is just right and it’s very crunchy yet not too hard nor sharp. Quick and straightforward:)   DD Mau (604) 684-4446 1239 Pacific Blvd  Vancouver, BC

Who loves Viet Subs?! If you do, then this place will shoot your tastebuds to heaven..! lol

I went in February when vaneats.ca had a voucher to this place. I saw many positive reviews on this place so I decided to go try it out with limmerZ. The staff were extremely friendly, especially the brother and sister who works there. The interior of the place is very modern, definitely not a typical viet place.

The sub is filled with all of your typical banh mi veggie fillings, but the pork is something special. It has a wonderful flavour from being roasted and the sandwich is topped with cracklin (fried pig skin). The cracklin gives it a perfect crunchy texture and a salty meaty flavour

I usually come here for sandwiches, which are delicious and my sister has already reviewed. Now that I work Downtown, I come here often. I got a bowl instead this time and I did not regret it! It wasn’t too greasy or MSG-heavy. I didn’t feel the need to nap after this, like so many other pho places. They served us quite fast, considering me and a four more other coworkers went and ordered at the same time.

Across from the Roundhouse, in hipster central, Yaletown is the new banh mi sandwich shop, DD Mau. Diana ( Foodology ), Rick and I attended the Grand Opening Party. I was impressed by the decor right away: minimalist, clean and modern, the interior of DD Mau is a far cry from the typical, dingy banh mi sandwich shops in Vancouver. mau down :Yaletown: I miss BMB , mostly their kimchi poutine – as delicious as it sounds funky. I hear they opened a second location in Toronto.  Not surprising.  There are more mouths to feed than Queen West can handle... In my six or so months here, I've discovered that Vancouver is void of 'cheap and cheerful' and 'everyday ethnic'. And then I found DDMau . I liked it so much I had it two days in a row. If DDMau used the standard banh mi , I would probably LOVE it. But they use their own baguette. It's good but not as good as the super perfect bread... That I could eat for days. Their filling is a perfect grouping of everything I love about viet subs – herby, sweet and sour, meaty and crunchy… I recommend the lemongrass chicken. Don’t be swayed by the fancy specials. Sometimes the ordinary is extraordinary. The bun - cold rice vermicelli - is also good...but an afterthought. DD Mau's ice coffee however – RIP OFF . A tiny cup is $3.50 and mine wasn’t even full. I never heard of DD Mau  until a couple weeks ago until Dee & my friends kept going on and on about DD Mau on our walk to Minami for dinner. I thought it was some kind of inside joke because DD Mau sounds kind of funny when it’s said repeatedly, but it turned out to be a real vietnamese sandwich shop in Yaletown. A few days later, I was back here to grab a quick bite with my friends. Given that the location is in Yaletown, I was expecting somewhat fancy-fied Vietnamese sandwiches, and I was right. Besides the Classic vietnamese sandwich, there were BBQ duck and Crispy pork options as well. The sandwiches were made on the spot and I grabbed a BBQ duck sandwich to go. This was officially the most expensive vietnamese sandwich I’ve ever had. At around $12, I thought this better be the best duck sandwich ever. It was pretty delicious. The BBQ duck meat was tender and warm, a nice contrast to the cold vinegary daikon and carrot slaw. I traded my other half of duck sandwich with my

Yaletown has a new neighbourhood go-to lunchtime spot. And its name is DD Mau — a scrappy, young upstart serving up Banh Mi the likes you haven’t seen before. In a parallel universe, if Banh Mi were to originate from the wilds of the Pacific Northwest instead of the streets of Saigon, this might have been the result.
