Everybody needs a food blogger bff (or just someone to go on food adventures with.) I think you guys can probably fancy a guess to who my food blogger bff is...das righttt, none other than Mr. 4.29 GPA Raymond Zeng!! (How someone can maintain a GPA that high on 3 hours of sleep is beyond me.). You guys probably know him from Raymond's Sushi Adventures, he's the only food blogger I really keep in touch with. I'm pretty shy around new people so I don't go to events that often.
This place is set up very nicely. You can either sit in the booth or at regular tables. We chose the booth, with shoes off, of course. I tried the lunch combination and it was actually quite filling. It came with a sample of sushi, teriyaki and tempura.
Relatively inexpensive joint on Kitsilano. I ordered a salmon and tuna don ($15?), and it came with a decent amount of sashimi. They used wild salmon sashimi for this. Keeping in mind that this is the Kitsilano area, I was pretty full for the price. Our table also ordered a salmon oshi to share...
My friend and I love the rolls. We have some udon、yam cheese roll and Gyoza. The yam cheese roll is so good love it~ But the tempura is just ok.
After a nice walk along the beach during long weekend, I really want to have sushi for my dinner, I decided to give a try at this restaurant.
the waitress recommend their popular oshi sushi, since I had tried other places' oshi sushi, such as MIKU, kishimoto. I wasn't really interested into it. but the waitress mentioned, their chief is from MIKU, I decided to give a try. well, I made a right decision, they have the one of the best oshi sushi I have ever had in Vancouver. definitely worth it!
We felt welcome in the intimate atmosphere of Hi Nippon. Our food was fresh and delicious. Ask for biology masters grad Cheri as your waitress. You're sure to be treated excellently by her.
After spending a lovely day walking along the beach, we decided to head on over to Hi-Nippon for dinner because it’s huge bright sign caught our eye as we drove by. The interior of Hi Nippon was decorated with woodsy Japanese style wall panes and they even had seating with tatami mats!
Good value options & tasty, but poor service. My expectations for this place were low based on reviews, but the dishes we ordered (gomae, green salad with lightly battered crispy tempura snapper, a couple of special rolls- the best being a tempura spicy tuna & avocado from the special roll book) FAR exceeded our expectations, and were priced very reasonably. Case in point: the green salad with snapper cost around 50 cents more than the green salad on the menu.
Unfortunately the service was as slow and indifferent as others have noted.
A++++ Love at first bite. The only negative experince I've had (and I eat here a lot!) has been slow service from time to time and once my avacado rolls were over ripe and they didn't charge me for them. The food is amazing for the price, service is fantastic, they are always super friendly! My boy friend and I come here a lot, I like it because it's small and intimate, the boothes are great if you want more privacy and the window seat is lovely- my fav place to go to for vegetarian gyoza in the city. I'll keep coming back!
Slow! The sushi at Hi-Nippon is fresh and well prepared, but every time I've been there it has taken +45min to receive our food. The staff is always kind and apologetic, but this is NOT the place to go if you're in a rush

The Best! I can't how many bad reviews there are for this place, its so good Also I find the servers all very sweet, and friendly. Try the fire dynamite roll! It is amazing.

This wasn't the first time I've visited hi-Nippon, a cozy restaurant situated in my neighborhood. I've never written a review myself but after visiting again and reading over the recent reviews by users on urbanspoon, I was astonished. Based on the numerous times I've visited and my friends' opinions, their service has never been anything less than flawless. Although I sometimes had to wait a few minutes before being seated, I didn't mind since the restaurant was always packed! It's not their fault that they couldn't find me a table right? In terms of food, they have yet to disappoint. A few of my favorite dishes are yam cheese roll, sashimi salad, nabeyaki udon, and most importantly, their sushi! Every time I've gone, they served me large slices of very fresh sashimi!! Now I've been to quite a few sushi restaurants and I know that the sushi that Hi-Nippon serves is TOP notch quality. You are definitely getting more than what you paid for. Also, I want to point out that their nabeyaki udon is simply amazing, try it at Hi-Nippon and you will never be satisfied anywhere else, I guarantee you. Hi-Nippon isn't for fine-dining but is excellent for casual lunches and dinners. Their food is superb, friendly service, and don't forget the atmosphere! I love the architecture of the restaurant and the bamboo sticks were a great touch. I would highly recommend this restaurant to those of you that happen to be around kitsilano, you won't be disappointed.

One of my faves. There's nothing fancy about this place but the food is really good. The sushi rolls and tempura are consistently tasty. You can tell that it's fresh and carefully prepared. Service is polite but on the slow side so be prepared to wait a bit for your food. However, it's still one of my favorite sushi spots.
High quality sushi, brown rice available!. Really beautiful sushi, a great array of creative maki rolls, all available made with brown or black rice for a modest extra charge. The service was gracious, particularly when I up-ended a cup of tea all over my own table and the table next door. I really, really liked this place, and I'm pretty particular about sushi restaurants these days. Highly recommended.
Great casual sushi experience. Quick friendly. Good value
We ordered quite a few dishes to try since it was our dinner. We decided to try the Crispy Tuna Roll ($9.25), which was one of the restaurant favourites. Interestingly, the chef’s special spicy sauce used on the roll was not as spicy as I have expected. However, I really enjoyed the crunchy texture which was made from battered flour tempura. It really enhanced the overall presentation of the roll. I believe we made a good choice in trying out this specialty roll...
The food here is average. I like the fact they used wild salmon as opposed the cheap salmon for the roll. The food was clean, the rolls were not as tight as they should be, so once you pick them up, the sushi would fall apart.
It's not the best sushi, but where else in the west side of Vancouver can you get stuffed on good quality sushi for $7.00?
