It was a good dining experience. Friendly staff...until the bill arrived.
I was having dinner with four friends and the server, David, had split the bill two ways -- Seat 1 and Seat 2, and we're not sure why he did that.
Seat 1 was for one person and then David combined the other three people's bill as Seat 2. I mentioned to him that Seat 2's bill is three individuals so it should be split. He said he knows that, did the calculations in his head on the spot and told us our individual totals. I actually didn't hear him say that (whereas my friend did) so that was my error. I repeated again that Seat 2 should be split. David got a little irritated and said, "You aren't listening", and repeated himself again. We still didn't quite understand what was going on because we were so fixated on Seat 2 being three people's bill and that was a mistake on our part. Then David went back to his register and re-printed our bills separately and came back saying, "Here are your separate bills because you didn't believe me".
David, if you see this review, I apologize for not hearing what you were explaining but you didn't have to add that comment about us not believing you. My friends and I talked about what happened and we all agree we misunderstood the bill because we never saw a bill split in that way before.
Not a huge issue, I still tipped 18% even though our meal ended on a sour note.
I'm in love with the ambience of this restaurant- it truly is decorated with Greek vibes. When my friend and I went, it was just before Halloween and the waiter was dressed in a cute Minnie mouse costume, which I loved. We each ordered one small Stephos' souvlakia. I ordered the chicken one, which I really enjoyed. Even though I ordered the small size, the portion was really big and I was left full. They also offer free pita bread to accompany your dish.
The prices depicted on their Zomato are different; when I went it was more expensive. I think the souvlakia was around $2 more when I went. But it's definitely worth it- I loved the food there so much!
This is one of the places in Vancouver where you’d normally wait for almost an hour to be seated luckily enough when we got here it was just a bit almost lunch time so we got a table pretty quickly after we got seated a party of 40 people arrived (yay for our timing!). We got the Saganaki and the Lamb Souvlaki which were both really yum and their serving is really big! The staff were very friendly and I like the quaintness of the place. I will definitely go back to this restaurant when I’m back in Vancouver! ❤️
This is a comfortable, casual Greek restuarant in Davie Village (they have another location on Robson) that's well-known for serving their entrees in large portions. Although their lamb is probably their most popular dish, being not the biggest fan of lamb, I opted to get a large Lasagana, which was tasty and quite filling. I also took their Moussaka to-go, which I reheated for lunch the next day, and quite enjoyed that dish as well. Unfortunately, as with most other places, they have significantly raised their prices over the years, although their current prices are still fairly reasonable. The service differs a bit depending on which server you get. While my server was more than decent, there was one guy named "Clinton" who seemed to be just exceptional: he introduced himself to everyone he was serving, went over all of the daily specials (which my server didn't), was attentive, and above all, was very friendly and cheerful. I'd highly recommend getting him, if possible.
Large Lasagna ($14.95):
4/5
The lasagna came with a small side of salad and a piece of pita bread. It was piping hot and topped with a good amount of delicious melted cheese that was crispy around the edges and gooey in the middle. The noodles were perfectly cooked and tender without being mushy. It was pretty "dry" in that there wasn't much sauce (which I didn't mind as I'm not the biggest fan of tomato sauce), but had a generous amount of ground beef. Personally, I did find it to be just a tad underseasoned. I didn't really care much for the salad, which consisted of peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and olives dressed in a simple sweet vinaigrette. The pita, on the other hand, was delicious: soft and fluffy with a really nice chewy texture. Portion-wise, the dish didn't look very big, but was very filling (probably because of all the tasty cheese) and I was actually quite stuffed after finishing it.
Moussaka ($15.95):
*disclaimer: I didn't eat this right away, but took it home and reheated it for lunch the next day, and I don't know how much that might have affected the flavours*
4/5
This consisted of layers of ground beef, potatoes and eggplants that's topped with a thick layer of thick bechamel, and was again served with a small salad as well as pita bread. Unfortunately, since I took the moussaka to-go, it did end up falling apart a bit. Fortunately, what it lacked in appearance, it made up for it in taste. The ground beef was well-seasoned and flavourful, and the vegetables were tender. I did find the bechamel to be a bit bland and gummy, but still enjoyable. While not as filing as the lasagna, the portion was still pretty good.
Lamb was so good and tender. Good taste. Barbeque spareribs was also good, very tender.. Very satisfied and also the serving was worth it.....
Stepho's provided a pretty great ambience while serving a decent large plate of food for a reasonable price.
This place is consistently popular with lineups into the street, in all seasons.
If you value quantity over quality then this would be a good place to go!
Stepho's combines atmosphere, location, and excellent food for a winning combination. On a hot summer night the terrace seating boasts a plant overhang and lends a level of intimacy and privacy. The music selection is tasteful and lends an authentic vibe to the restaurant.
I tried the eggplant masala, and the portions were large but not overdone. There was more than enough in one portion for two people to leave sated and potentially with leftovers. The food itself was flavourful and balanced.
Our waiter was friendly, but perhaps had trouble balancing speaking to the guests with faster service. We waited about fifteen minutes for him to come after being seated, and an additional forty for our food despite the restaurant only being at around half occupancy.
Atmosphere: 4/5
Food: 5/5
Service: 4/5
It was a pleasant experience for me. Although my friend was not happy with the pork she ordered. Service was a bit delayed due to huge rush and less number of servers. Rice, bread etc was very good. Meat was a bit chewy.
I have nothing bad to say about this place. The food is 10/10, The price is reasonable, the ambience is perfect for a romantic date, the music is catchy and the service is quick. The Greek burger and lasagne are my two favourite dishes
This is an OMG greek resturant .. Its a Must try when you are In Vancouver .. you gotta Plan to wait in queue sometimes for an hour .. in Vancouver where it Rains alot you gotta Be ready for a rain coat while waiting outside .. when You get in and see The quality an Portion that is Hard to finish .. you will forget about the wait and enjoy the taste of heaven .
Waiters are all Davie street residents .who are so respectful and nice .
Enjoy it
A solid and time honored Greek restaurant with everything you expect from the potato to the perfectly cooked and perfectly spiced meats. Comfort food at its finest!
Verdict: Heavy, but affordable hearty rustic food. Warms the soul
What can I say about this place that hasn't been said before? This staple/dinosaur of Vancouver food scene has provided affordable Greek cuisine to the masses/broke college kids for decades now. Prices have gone up reasonably with the times, but it is still a must visit for me every winter. I would have never tried Greek food if it wasn't for this place and its prices back in the day.
The best Greek food ever! I still miss the food sometimes...no other Greek restaurant has even come close.
Not just that, the service is super quick (even though the place is ALWAYS full), and it's so prettily done up.
A couple people have been telling me this is the go-to place in Vancouver for Greek food, and I finally got to try it out. I was also told that there would be long line-ups, but that wasn’t the case at all — the restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday evening, although it was quite early (around 5:30). It did get busier by the time we left, but there was never a line.
Had the lamb. Lamb was excellent, Greek potatoes top notch, veggies good and pita fresh. Service fast and friendly. Prices very reasonable-. Would definitely go again.
Great greek place with good prices and generous portions. I always leave with left overs to take home. Only downside is they don't take reservations. Go either early or later to avoid line ups. My faves: roast lamb, mussels, cheeseballs & calamari.
Great food . Good service .Had to wait for a long time to a get a seat .. I like this one more than the one on Robson .. And extremely filling . The funny things is the difference between their large and small plates is a stick of kabab .. This one is more intimate
A while ago, my aunt and I decided to have lunch at our family favorite greek restaurant. I was expecting a long line because the last time I was around the city stepho's always always have long lines. Upon arriving, I was shocked to see they are no long lines and the restaurant was not even full. My aunt said, since they increase their price they haven't had any lines anymore.
Nevertheless, I need to go to stepho's because this is the only place that has the yummiest snails and prawns. As always I was not disappointed by it, definitely be back for more snails and prawns before going back to the Philippines.
Hadn't been to Stephos for a while so I decided to head there for lunch. Not as cheap as it used to be, prices have gone up but that has not deterred people from coming. Got there at around 1 and there was a huge line up like always. While the portions are still large, the food was kind of bland. It came super fast, but was missing taste. Even my staples, chicken souvlaki and calamari were underwhelming.
My husband and I had a wonderful dining experience. Our waiter was prompt, courteous and very hard working. The whole time we were there the place was hoppin' and our waiter was on point! We shared a hummus plate which was so good. The texture was velvety and with a rich garlic taste. I had the lamb souvlaki, which was on point, and my husband had the moussaka and both portions were more than ample. It was a satisfying dining experience and we both left full and happy.
Recommended place by a friend.
The lamb chops and shrimp were really good. Meatball was too dry. Caesar salad was okay. Value for money. Overall, I would come back and try their other dishes.
Food was great. Loved the mussels and prawn Souvlaki. Service was well and good although could be improved. The ambiance made me feel like I'm actually somewhere in Greece. Will be back again!
Padaika dish is bit dry a few times I ate there but their roast lamb is quite juicy but I wouldn't say it's exceptional or great. They give you little bit bigger portion by giving you lots of vegetables. The food is alright but not my favourite Greek restaurant.
First time trying Greek food and I was blown away! The presentation is not the best but the taste is amazing !! I loved the lamb it was perfectly cooked!!! The bread they give you is amazing with their humus :)))
Always a great place to eat and hang out with friends. Big portions and super cheap. Love the roast lamb, souvlaki, calamari even the lasagna is great
Stepho’s is known for quick, cheap, tasty Greek food. They have two locations in downtown Vancouver. The original location is on Davie Street and they have been there for 20 years. Their newer location is on Robson Street. They do not take reservations, first come first serve only. Be prepared to wait if you are going on the weekend at dinner time. Try and catch an earlier dinner if you really want to eat here (before 6 pm).
Ben and I went for a walk at the north side of the False Creek on a gloomy Saturday morning. It drizzled before we started the walk and we were glad that we did not give up and continued with our walk. We walked 20,000 steps that morning. After the walk, Ben rewarded me with a good lunch. He brought me to Stephos. Since it was still 5 minutes before the restaurant opened for lunch, there was only one group of about 10 in line.
For Stepho’s, you need to get there early, because they do not take reservations.
Given its affordability in price and the amount of food you get in return, the restaurant is always bombarding with customers wanting for more.
If you live in Vancouver, and love greek food, you've probably been to Stepho's. If you've never been and are from Vancouver, you probably live under a rock. For cheap greek food in downtown Vancouver, we highly recommend checking out Stepho's, its cheap, fresh and delicious. As you can see the portion is large as well, my chicken souvlaki cost me about $13, and I was completely satisfied. If you haven't been there for any reason, I highly recommend checking it out
Like most of the reviews said, quantity over quality. The food is definitely mediocre but if you're looking for a cheaper greek restaurant, go here. I had the garlic prawns and they were fairly bland (but the shrimp had a nice snap). I don't recommend getting this dish, but I tasted the other dishes around my table and they were fine. Our waiter was very nice, but some of the waiters/waitresses seemed like they didn't know what they were doing (wandering around like a zombie & asking if they wanted our bones to be packed with our leftovers).
I've been here quite a few times. Food is always consistent, delicious, and portions are HUGE. Souvlaki is spiced perfectly, and the Greek salad does not skimp on the feta or olives. Be prepared to wait in line.
Why I love this place: big portions reasonable price, however the quality would not be deemed the best. The meat is usually dry and the rice a tad oily.
Would I come back: yes, just because I love getting take out and eating at the beach.
Would I recommend it to others: yes, just because it's such an institution in Vancouver, you have to try at least once.
This is my go to place for Greek food. No place can beat their prices and their great service. Not to mention the amount of food you get for a small price is awesome!
I love coming here. You cannot beat the prices and the amount of food you get. Service is always quick, but somehow there is still always a line. Make sure you get there early!!
Favourite Greek. I love Stepho's. I've been coming back for 4 years now. The lamb dinner is always juicy and filled with rice, potatoes, salad etc. Slouvaki is very good and so is spanokopita (excuse spelling).
Great food and an unbelievable price. Just remember to come early lunch/dinner rushes are busy with lines out the door at times.
Waiting For Your Food Is Worth It .... it is not premium Quality Food!. This place is a busy place in the evening with long lineup. Waiting for a table, waiting to be serve, waiting for you food is all worth it. It is good food that is fairly priced. It is not the best food a person can, but what do you expected for the price of the food in this type of restaurant. It is good quality food for a middle quality type restaurant. It is not a high end, high service place. It is the wrong type of restaurant if you are look for a place where all the millionaires go to. This is not a fast food place.
I love the Greek chicken and lamb souvlaki. The Greek Salads are very taste. My friends and I come to the place when we are in the downtown area a lot of time. The westend restaurants can be pricy, but the prices in the menu are still fair. In general, the prices of food in the Vancouver downtown are not cheap. Do not expect A1 services and A1 quality.
I could eat at Stepho's everyday. The best value of money. Food is so tasty and cheap!
Cheap, Good, Great Portions, GREAT VALUE (See the single $ in the details?). I'm taking my garlic-tinted glasses off for a bit to write an honest review here. I love Stephos (and I loooove garlic), and Stephos is a must-eat every time I'm in Vancouver. I've never had a bad experience (I have had good-but-not-great experiences). That said, I've had many friends leave slightly underwhelmed. I'm pretty sure I've just been lucky to never get a "miss" day, but Stephos seems like it's now a somewhat "hit or miss" place. In my mind, it's definitely more often a "hit," but the hordes of reviews below me can't all be lying.
That said, the Tiroboukes are to die for (as is the garlic dip), and staples like Souvlaki platters are always great. I've had somewhat bland potatoes once, but I've gone many many times (and usually their mustard-roasted potatoes are great!). The last thing to be said is just how much value you get here! Stephos has prices like an Opa!, with food as good as a quality greek restaurant, and amazing portions. I think that's really what's captured Vancouver's heart as a downtown staple.
With all the "miss" reviews below, I can't pretend like Stephos is the best Greek in Vancouver (though I'd say it's certainly in the running), but what I can say is that Stephos has the BEST VALUE IN VANCOUVER, hands down.
p.s. I usually go with a chicken souvlaki platter.
Best lamb I've had in years. Excellent meal! Will be back again.
Great Meal. We really enjoyed our meal and service. The prices are extremely good. It was busy, but we well looked after. Will eat here again.
Great atmosphere and friendly servers, portions were huuuuuge! Tried the calamari dinner, unfortunately my calamari was a bit rubbery/ chewy.. But other than that I'd definitely come back and try another dish :)
Big fatty. Better roast lamb than i ever had in greece.
Yearning for more stomach space. I've been coming to Stepho's since the late 1990s. Back in my university days when we all had high metabolisms we would make our way to Stepho's and cram an entire roast lamb dinner down our starving gullets after heaps of their delicious appetizers. Alas, that was ages ago and now as a responsible grown-up my caring wife would not allow me to wreck my body that way as much as I am tempted to.
Most tempting are Stepho's crispy calamari and their own tzatziki, always been one of my favourites anywhere; and their delicious garlic butter escargots, which they have but I don't see it on the menu. It has always been difficult to steer myself away from their roast lamb platter, which over the years has never wavered in quality. Every time I think of it a long drip of drool forms at the corner of my mouth as I lose my inhibitions and I want to stuff my face with that ridiculously juicy and tender leg of lamb. I want to hide under the table from my wife and fill my gullet with their sweet and crispy baklava.
O Stepho's, how I yearn for your tender morsels of souvlaki and roasted onions and mushrooms, your kalamata olives, and your pickled peppers. Anon, we shall meet again and dine.
Very good Greek food! We were both more than full an couldn't even finish our plates. We had a starter and 2 mains. The service was super friendly. I definitely recommend this place.
Good value but a wait. Good good, good value for a downtown joint... Don't take resos from what I remember so there is a wait most times from what I hear. Was about 30m last time I was there
Absolutely delicious!. I came here for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised by the prices and portions of food. We waited for a bit to get seated, which wasn't a big deal. This place is super busy! We started off with the spanakopita, and I was surprised that it was two large triangles! My boyfriend had the roast lamb dinner and I had the chicken souvlaki. I couldn't even finish my meal and neither could my bf. The food was really good! I will definitely be back here.
Great food. My wife got the famous lamb roast and it was GREAT. And it was enough food for 2! I had good Souvlaki lamb pita.
Once again delicious. Thank you.
Been wanting to come here..I'm here now love it
Fantastic Value. I'm sure the Canadian dollar would go far in Greece right now. Stepho's is almost as good a deal. Meals have small and large option, but for all my friends the small is more than enough to stuff you.
There is a reason there is always a line up out stephos...the food tastes great and the price can't be beat for what you get. This is a popular stop for many people I know.
The ambience is typical 'greek restaurant' with white plaster walls, tacky crap on the walls and trims of blue, but the mood is set with it's fake candles and curved archways. Some might find it 'too' busy and I'd have to agree when you get crammed into the tight table in the main hall. I always feel kind of rushed when I eat there...like they are trying to sweep you out to fill the hungry hoard outside.
If you want 20% more flavour and willing to pay 20% more then visit the greek restaurant just a few buildings east of Stepho's - they serve a fantasic lamb shank.
Great food big meals Low prices. I visit Stepho's monthly when in area, food is always great I love there lamb and tazaki dip, rice and potatoes are great.
line ups suck and move slow but the service is good and meals served fast.
Cant wait til 2nd location opens on Robson street.
wife and I enjoy the food a great meal at a good price.
People are smart reason there is a big line up. everyone. wants a deal.
Great prices, good food , nice service.... Been going there for years every time I come into Vancouver...
Tender Greek steak. Before I went there, I have never been to a Greek restaurant. Colorful foods and the atmosphere were so wonderful. I like their style. I ate roast lamb. The taste was pretty yummy. I understood what every my friends who have been there told me. Though I did not go at lunch time, but there were many customers out side. However the staff service was not good regretfully. I hope that they add one more waiter on the floor. They would succeed in gathering people more if they did so.
Once again I was not disappointed. Beef Souvlaki was tender and flavourful. Prices are excellent. I've paid the same for a mall food court Greek food that was disgusting, so it is nice to find excellent food at a reasonable price. Will be back to Stepho's again soon.
I find that this place is either packed with a huge line out the door, or depending when you go you could be one of the only tables. I went with a friend and we both had the roast lamb dinners. We were not disappointed- it was very well priced and delicious!! The service though leaves something to be desired. Very distracted staff even though it was not the busy part of the day by any means. But I think people mainly return for the yummy food :)
Great food, BAD service. I have gone to many Greek places and this is has the most delicious garlic prawns I have ever had also their cheese balls I highly recommend. I love how greatly priced their menu items are however DO NOT expect good service. One time our waiter was SO rude to myself and my boyfriend I asked the hostess for his name and wrote a letter to the Manager of Stephos and got NO reply. The bathrooms are disgusting! Refills take forever and they rarely ask if you need anything.
*Another experience I had was a waitress took our order and 25 minutes later she came back and asked if she had took our order !
*Another experience we ordered pita bread (to have with our meal) and it came out first, we waited and waited 30 minutes by the time our food came the pita was cold so we asked the waiter if we could have it heated up, he replied “Sorry we don’t do that”
We only go back because of the food !
I loveee that place. i use to live in vancouver and i were there every week. big plates great service and amazing food!! everything i tried was delicious and soo cheap!!! i go sometimes in vancouver for work and i always stop by cause i miss that greek place so bad! you have to try this restaurent its a most and location west end is great!
Worth the long wait. Yes, it can take forever to be seated. But it's worth it. Amazing value and good food. The huge serving of lamb hits the spot for me.
Delicious!!u can't go wrong here. Great value fast service huge portions. A most try
Very friendly staff! Super tasty food for amazing prices. Really worth checking out!
The bestttttttt Greek restaurant around ! Must try !!
Fast, Fantastic and Cost-Friendly-- Worth a Drive from SURREY. COME EARLY, only the best places have line ups!!!
I used to live in surrey, and went out of my way to drive to Stephos for dinner, its actually cheaper WITH THE GAS to go there, tip generously and have a filling meal WITH LEFTOVERS. less than 8 bucks gets you a full plate of food. Starving, under $10 bucks gets you a LARGE ENTREE with extra meat/seafood/whatever. Alcohol prices are competitive, staff are friendly, well-dressed and quick. Dessert is amazing and you can go for a nice walk. I'm moving downtown in a few months partly due to this restaurant. My all time favorite place!!!!!!
Kinda old and dark. But good food nonetheless.
Worth the line!. Amazing cheap food. Kind of rough area for some people, but for me its not too bad at all. Its worth the line and its a great bang for your buck!
Delightful. Happened by Stepho's on an off-chance once with the boyfriend, and were very lucky to have beaten the crowds that frequent this place! The food was incredible -- fast, HUGE servings, and some of the best tzatziki I've ever had. No complaints about service either, I remember it being very friendly.
GIANT portion for a small price. I've been to Stepho's 3+ times and I love it. If you get there before six pm then you won't have to wait long in line for a table. After six there's a line out the door. It's a bit cramped, but I like the cozy feel. You can only reserve a table if you have more than six people and they ALL have to be there before you sit down at your table... I've eaten the Roast Lamb platter and the Calamari platter. The lamb was tender and lamb-y but I didn't particularly enjoy it. Also, there was a red sauce beside it that wasn't appetizing. I LOVE the calamari. For $9.95, IT'S HUGE!! The calamari wasn't THE BEST, but for that price it was awesome. The calamari also came with tzatziki sauce - perfect for the complementary bread they give!!! The servers were friendly and nice but know what you want so you can order right away, or else you may have to wait a while for them to stop running around to the other tables. 10/10
Good value for money I trie.... Good value for money
I tried the roast lamb that was very tender and I liked the settings good service
Good for when you're on-call. Whenever i used to be on-call at st.pauls, Stepho's takeout would be on my list of places to eat. Large portions, and I enjoy the souvlaki, calamari, and roast lamb dinners.
My favorite place on earth and that's that. Food and service is always great!!
Wouldn't lineup again, but ok. We waited for half an hour. Got in and the place had several empty spots. It is insulting.
Food was hit and miss. Mine was great, but my date's was gross.
Won't return if there is a wait out front. If no line up I'd probably give it another try.
Reasonable price for what you are getting.. Stopped by here to meet family while I was in Vancouver. This place always seems to be hopping. I got the Calamari plate. Holy! Do you ever get a lot of Calamari for a great price. Not the best I have had but hey, I didn't pay a whole lot for it. Had no problems with the servers. They were very polite and friendly. Nice little Greek place if you are out and about in the West End.
Love Stephos. Awesome prices. Mussles are amazing. Garlic prawns also, roast lamb
Okay These Guys Rock. You can never have a bad day at Stepho's. Yeah yeah yeah the line up is long so is your mom, so quite your bitchen. You will be 100% when leaving this place with a smile on your face and your wallet will not be rape after leaving as well.
Well worth the wait..
Having worked in a few greek restaraunts when I heard of this place and more importantly the prices of their dishes I was more than intrigued. Could there actually be a moussaka out there for less than $27 that actually tastes good?! Well after standing in line for close to 45 mins I found out. I had the saganaki, keftedes and houmus and pita to start. Saganaki was okay kinda bland no real taste keftedes were good presentation was outstanding as I am used to paying $15 for 6 meatballs with no garnish let alone rice and veg for $5 The houmus was as good as anywhere with again the wonderful price My moussaka was good ESP the huge portion for $9.95 my only complaintants would be it was slightly over cooked I prefer the bechamil sauce to be soft not hard and crispy and the waiter seemed to rush us through most likely cause there was people lined up waiting to occupy our seats. I'd defiantly eat here again if there wasn't a line.
Great food, great prices. The best Greek restaurant I've been to in terms of food and price. The souvlaki and roast meats are moist and flavourful--I'm always torn between lamb and chicken, even though I've never before ordered chicken at a Greek restaurant. As for the portions, generous is an understatement. The plates are massive! When I went with my family, we ordered 2 appetizers and 4 entrees and left with more than half the food.
Just two things: 1) they're very liberal in using garlic; even the tzatziki and hommous had the bite of raw garlic so watch out, and 2) the lines, which can be horrendously long (1hr+) and it's really crowded inside. We prefer ordering take-out, as the food is ready in 10 minutes :)
Stepho's can cheer you up.... Perfect place for some hearty food. line up is worth it. calamarie makes it even more worthwhile. i love the prawn souvlaki. never fails.

Very Satisfied customer. Tried it today for the first time , after living here for nearly 6 years and walking past it numerous times i finally went for it!
It was my birthday today and wanted greek, I had the lamb souvlaki platter and was more than happy with the sizeable portions and tender pull apart lamb shank. I would have taken the rest home with me for lunch tomorrow but could not put my fork down!
Regardless of previous reviews of bad experiences and unhappy customers, Judging from my personal experience I can truly say i will be going back...Possibly tomorrow for lunch ;)

Good Homemade Food and Good Value. Stephos is an institution in Vancouver and we went there in the summer with a group of people. Many of us had the roast lamb dinner and it was tasty and a good portion. We share some appetizers really like the eggplant dip. Some greek folks in our party remarked that is was as good as their mom made. It tastes like it's made from scratch the service is friendly and didn't rush us out. The line up to get in was enourmous and demonstrates that they have a sound and devote following and rightly so. Good value, wholesome homemade food and friendly service.
Awesome Portions - Best Price. Large Portions, low prices. Line ups are normal during dinner, skip the line by walking in and ordering take-out or just stand in line for and you'll be seated in 20-40 minutes, its fun. Definitely recommended: everything on the menu except for calamari - this is a WARNING - DO NOT ORDER THE CALAMARI, Roast Lamb is great, souvlaki awesome, chicken even better; but the calamari will be hard , even if you tell them to take it out a bit raw. Other than that you'll love this place unless you've been hooked to one of those restaurants that charge $20-$40 a dish from one of the premier greek restaurants. Enjoy!
Best Deal in Town. Can't beat this food for price. Line-ups though :(
Aussie souvlaki is better. There are more than a hundred reviews of Stepho's, so there's not much I can say that would be novel except for one thing -- comparing their souvlakis to the ones I ate in Australia.
"Souvas" are the modern Australian drunk food; the things you eat after a night on the turps at the pub. They've replaced the meat pie (aka "rat coffin") as what people use to soak up the booze from their stomachs. I ate my share down there, usually when I was sober, too.
Aussie souvlakis are almost always wraps, with the meat, veg and sauces rolled up in a flat pita or soft lavash. It's what's called "donair" in Canada and "gyro" in the U.S. Stepho's is probably closer to what a souvlaki in the real Greece would be, because its meat comes on a skewer. The vegetables are on top of a pita, not rolled. The tzatziki comes on the side. With Stepho's, you get to build your own souvlaki.
Oddly, I found the whole to be LESS than the sum of the parts. Stepho's has better quality ingredients than a typical Aussie souva, but the experience of eating one of the Australian creations is better, IMHO.
The single skewer of lamb from Stepho's was well-cooked, a little bit of char to it, flavourful and moderately tender. Five chunks of meat, IIRC. The texture was like they were real bits of flesh, not a composite of ground meat like off one of the rotating round slabs you see on spits at donair joints. Fat content is a key consideration with lamb souvlakis. I only had one gobbet that was unnaturally large (since I was eating it where I parked my bike in the middle of the Burrard Bridge, I spat it way down into False Creek so it could become crab food.)
The lettuce/tomato/onion mix was chopped into small bits, but it wasn't pureed into slaw. Two kalamatas, a hot pepper on the side. The tzatziki was excellent -- thick and tangy, like it was made with high-fat Greek yogurt. And Stepho's gives you a big pile of fries to go with it, with some kind of coating that makes them crispier than natural frites. All good, and for less than $8! Better than a burger, in my book. Plus I only had to wait for about 5 minutes to get my takeaway order when I was there, which was after 9 p.m. on a Tuesday. I do NOT believe in waiting in line for Stepho's or almost anywhere else.
That said, I still prefer the type of souvlaki/donair/gyro that comes pre-made and wrapped in foil. Nicer for eating on the road, and the flavours combine better than Stepho's "you build it" style. No knock on Stepho's, just my quibble. It's more of a sit-down meal than something to eat with your hands when you're standing by a bridge railing in the dark of night.
The perfect place for a slow lunch. There's always a line up whenever I go, but it's usually worth the wait. Aside from a few unfriendly waitresses (too busy I guess?), the food and atmosphere is very enjoyable. The lamb and chicken souvlaki are my favourites. The prices are also very reasonable, which is always a plus. Finally, make sure you ask for the hot sauce!
Can't Beat Stephos!. I don't think it is possible to say anything negative about Stephos (other than the long line that seems to exist any day of the week!). The proportions are big, the food tastes delicious, and the price is unbeatable. I had a spanakopita dinner that came with a large spanakopita, rice, potatoes, salad, and pita with tziki for under $10.
No matter the length of the line, Stephos is always worth the wait!
Leave with a full belly and a surprisingly full wallet. Date visited: July 2011.
At 5PM on a Tuesday, Stepho's legendary line up was reduced to a five-minute wait. Our server was knowledgeable and efficient, and our mains were served quickly despite the restaurant being full.
My dish didn't taste much like the moussaka I remember living on in Greece (not enough eggplant, too much white sauce, maybe?), but it was delicious nonetheless. The accompanying salad was fine, but a little boring, and the bread could've come with a dip. My friend really enjoyed her veggie platter and we were both completely full up by the end.The house white was cheap and decent, too.
Bill total: Two drinks and two large entrees for $25? What a bargain!
I ordered a roasted lamb and calamari which both were good. But the pita was burned :-O .......
Pretty darned good take-out. Ordered 2 roast lamb dinners and a calamari appetizer. Fed 4 people for 31$. The quality of the lamb you get depends on the piece, this time we scored with huge, round, rib portions. Fall off the bone good. No complaints!
Arriving here at dinner time on saturday i was expecting a line-up and yes there was one. It moved quickly enough and we were inside within 30 minutes. I ordered the recommended roast lamb dinner, the lamb was so tender i could pick it off the bones with a fork. The rice pilaf was good as well as the pita, roasted potatoe and vege bromia. The prices here are incredibly cheap and must be a big reason for the lineups. The service is great and the food comes quick. A must try for anyone who likes greek food.
Stephos is great! So far great experiences therr. Of course there will be a line up, so mentally prep yourself for the line and prep your party before you get there. Cheap food, big portions. I always have spanakopita and the prawn souvlaki platter with lots of tzatziki! Yumm.. Cheap drinks too.
Very Greek!. A very atmospheric Greek restaurant at a low price with lots of yummy food. all foods are full with flavour and very "Greek." Main courses come with delicious pita breads. Their Greek salad is very good, as is their calamari and lasagna. Service may be a bit slow, though, due to the high volume of customers. However, it is great for a relaxing meal or date.
Best Greek. Along with Anton's in Burnaby, this is one of the few "need to line up for dinner" restaurant simply because of its price and quality of food. I recommend getting the roast lamb or the Calamari. Price is less than 10 bucks and will last you at least 2 meals. Stepho's offers quick (once you get seated) and friendly service and the food is to die for. Give it a try...
Lunchtime is better. I come here quite often with my Grams for lunch. It's much less crowded. The food comes quickly. The serving sizes are HUGE.
We always get the lamb plate (mmmm, soft, delicious lamb) and a skewer plate. The chicken is kind of dry but slather it in the ultra garlicky tsadziki which is amazing and you're good to go.
Serving sizes are beyond generous. bang for your buck, decent (though not fantastic) food, no waiting (at lunch!), good people watching from the large windows.
Go for it if you are really really hungry.... You get lots of decent food at a pretty cheap price for downtown Vancouver. sometimes the line up is crazy... if you are don't mind going at odd hours, definitely worth a visit...
Best greek outside of greece. I've looked all over the world for better greek food to no avail. Everytime I come into Vancouver, I will come to Stepho's for the rack of lamb or calamari.
MMMMMMMMMMMMM. Very good food, and cheep drinks as well
Good Cheap Greek. Always a line up although it moves quick. Slovakia platters are big enough for two girls.fresh pita, nice servers and great tzatziki
No brainer.... How could you not LOVE the amount of food for the price? There's a reason why there's always a lineup, and it's not exactly for greek food connoisseurs who want to authenticate every dish. I could pretty much order anything off the menu and be satisfied... I think the only thing I have ever not enjoyed were the Keftethes as they were way too dry. These guys know how to please...good, quick service, and tasty food for a GREAT price!
Great Value. The food was wonderful, and magnitude you received was surprising for the price. Liked it alot
Cheap n cheerful. Not the best greek food in the city, but by far the best value. Massive portions, small prices.
Great food, Great Price. True the place does not scream fine dinning but its still a great local favorite. Its open late so I often pop in there at about 11 when I'm starving and I could eat a cow. And they literally almost serve one for about 10 dollars! And I have tried other greek places in the area, they dont even touch Stepho's. I am not confusing quality for quantity.
Heavenly Greek!. We went because of reviews from Urbanspoon and took a friend who is local to Vancouver and he'd never heard of it. We arrived and waited in line for about 10 minutes to be seated. The portion sizes were truly huge! The calamari appetizer is amazing as well is the humus. Probably everyone's favorite was the mousaka... but there were absolutely no complaints about anything at all! Friendly and helpful waiter with a quick service time. Go if you want great Greek food!
Great food! Insane meal sizes.
Best Vancouver Greek Restaurant. Cheap price, good quality and big portions. What more can you ask for? Go for early dinners to avoid lineups!
GREAT. Great place, great food, great service and great prices. If that doesn't say it all then I don't know what does.
Hot stuff. I was having dinner there last week. awsome service, foods amazing, super cheap. the owners son jon is a great piece of eye candy. nice to look at something hot while eating great food. i highly recommend the resteraunt for the food & for jon.
Lamb dinner, yum.. I'm not sure how long I would wait in line for this, because we went on a week day and it was the end of summer. The line was short. The lamb dinner was HUGE and was amazing. The calamari was also good. Long lines for big portions and great prices.
Good food for good price. This place has lineups because of the huge portions you get for what you pay! Sure, it's not exactly fine dining, but the food is honest and has a very 'homey' taste. I would definitely go back for sure!

Good lunch.. Cheap but very good, big portions. Big fan. Service not very good.
Good food, bad service. The Food here is always great, no complaints there. But the people that they have serving has no customer service skills at all. It's really disgusting the way they talk to their clients.
Bang for Buck Baby!. For the clowns who think this is an uber-fine-dining restaurant to fly a kite. Its quality greek food, yes not the most mind-blowing, but still very good, and for the best price! There is no greek restaurant in the lower mainland that gives you as much for $10 for a large supper, nor as much for the smaller meals. Its AWESOME.
Oldest greek restaurant in Vancouver. This place gotta be the oldest greek restaurant in vancouver, but it's around for a reason. I love the food, the beef, the rice, the potatoes... The only thing is that the line up is too crazy, once I took some friends from Toronto and waited outside for 45min!!! Although it was very enjoyable, the line up is way too long.
Average, But the Line-up?. This place is average, but not worth the line-up. Sure, if you go early or late, or order take-out, it's fine. But I prefer to pay a few bucks more and go somewhere without the 1-hour line-up.
Good lunch spot. Whenever we're feeling reaaaally hungry at work, Stephos manages to satisfy with their big portions, decent taste (its more of a casual dining spot. I don't expect to be wowed.), and good prices.
Yummmm. Good food, big portions, great price :) If u don't mind the long line ... It's definately worth it!
Stepho's. Delicious food, large servings and amazing prices! If you're worried about 'good' service, ask to sit in Dave's section. There is a reason people line up outside for hours; my only complaint would be the too-intimate seating.
Anyone who has been to Stepho's can describe the portions as generous for the price. From what I have seen, people always end up with bring leftovers home.
I've been to both locations of Stepho's now and I really love this place! The portions are humongous, especially for the cheap prices, and the taste is just as wonderful... The staff are surprisingly very welcoming and patient to us annoying indecisive people, and gave good recommendations too.
We went to Stepho’s a Greek Restaurant in Robson. Line up was very long that night. We waited for 15 minutes before we got our seat. The place was dark just candles in each tables. Ambiance was pretty good too. Too bad I was wearing boyish clothes amp! I wasn’t able to bring my dslr :( (sorry for the poor quality of the pictures).
I chose to get the charbroiled BBQ chicken ($11.45) which came with pita bread, greek salad, veggies, rice pilaf and roasted potatoes. Oh gosh was this a scrumptious meal. The chicken is just so moist and tender and the pilaf is wonderfully seasoned. My favorite part is the vege briami and I love mixing that in with my rice pilaf. This is my favorite dish to get here because it fills me up so much that I have to take half of it home and do you know what that means? I get to enjoy such goodness the next day for lunch! (: I found this little guy so cute that I had to take a photo of it! Anyways, I’ve also tried the mousaka ($8.95) here
Great good for great value, gotta love Stepho’s! The Tiroboukes Stepho’s Creations is a must-order. It’s basically a deep fried cheese ball served with a garlic-y dip and beet salad – sounds deadly but it’s so delicious, and that dip … it’s all kinds of amazing! You absolutely have to try this if you haven’t already.
I had the Calamari Dinner while Panda had the Roast Lamb Dinner. The lamb was tender, moist and very flavourful, just as I remembered. I ordered the Calmari Dinner because I wanted to try something new and Panda was torn between ordering the lamb and calamari. The calamari was crispy and not overly oily, however I don't think it's anything particularly special. The dinners come with some Greek salad, rice, potatoes, mixed veggies along with pita bread that isn't shown in the pictures.
It was the first time to try out the Spanakopita, but it was really good! Super tasty. I’d definitely order it next time. The souvlakia, well it’s what I always order it cuz it’s just the best. The octopus for me is a bit too hard and rubbery for my liking. I didn’t mind having a few of them though.
...large portion. Low price. Dainty roast lamb.
After you try it, you will get to know why there is always a lineup.
If you can stand the wait, Stepho’s is definitely the place to go for Greek food in downtown! Not perfect, but delicious, affordable, big portions that will fill your stomach and satisfy your tastebuds.
We had a huge portion of tender roast lamb served with some stewed vegetables and the usual rice pilaf, roasted potatoes and Greek salad. We also ordered a side of garlic sauce instead of the tzatziki dip.

Located in downtown Vancouver, Stepho’s is characterized by budget friendly prices, long line-ups, and calamari dinners. It is also one of the few unexpected places that serve halal meat so Nabs can eat meat here.
I ordered the mousaka casserole and it was big. It sort of looks like shepard’s pie. I liked this dish alot
Stepho’s is a bit of an institution in the West End. They’re known for the great value on their sizeable dishes, as well as the lengthy line-ups of hungry patrons wanting to get them around meal times.

I thought for sure I reviewed this place previously – but apparently I never have. If you aren’t familiar with Stepho’s, they serve ridiculously huge portions of Greek food for a decent price (which, hasn’t gone up – significantly anyway -for at least a decade). Which brings me to my next point – what defines ‘real’ Greek food? What is an authentic Greek food experience? We all know that sushi is Japanese food but not an every day Japanese diet. If you have any suggestions or thoughts on the subject, I sure would like to hear them. Back to Stepho’s. The best time to go to Stepho’s in my opinion is lunch time – especially right when they open. Otherwise, you’re looking at a lineup. My parents are all about being early so we stood outside the Stepho’s for about 10-15 minutes before they opened. We were seated immediately and we knew what we were going to order already (no need for a menu)! I ordered the Kalamaria Dinner (yes, it was lunch but I ordered the dinner, don’t judge me!) and my
Stepho's Greek Taverna on Davie Street has been a really popular restaurant in Vancouver for their affordable greek food. I have always had the misconception that greek food in Vancouver is fairly expensive. When I eat Greek food in Burnaby, an entree would cost anywhere from $15 - $20. BUT, at Stepho's, you can have large portions for under $10. This is the reason why Stepho's is always packed with customers during lunch and dinner time. When we arrived at 5pm, we thought it shouldn't be very busy, but th
I've been going to Stepho's for years, almost as long as I've been going to Anton's. If you're looking for a cheap place to get really, really full on decent food, check this place out. Though since I discovered Kisamo's in Richmond, I hardly ever come ou
Stepho’s has been around for a long time, and it’s no secret that it’s got good food. I haven’t eat-in at Stepho’s in a while because it’s always got a line up.
If you have a yearning for Greek food and want to go to the place all the locals go, Stepho’s should be your number one destination. It’s cheap, filling, and good, and even though the lineups can be a bit annoying, it’s good to know a restaurant is popula
This place is so well known, you can tell just by the lineup they have outside, especially on weekends. But I thought I should still write about it because I recently discovered a friend who didn't know about this place, even though she has lived here for
Busted a gut trying to finish their Calamari Dinner ($10) for lunch today. Its one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. The seasoned batter dulled my sense of fullness, yet I still only got 3/4 of the way. Stepho's on Davie ( map ) is
Whenever I see a lot of people queueing outside of a restaurant, two things come to my head: They want people to them (hence, hinting where they eat) or the hype is high. Then there is the queue that some

I have always heard that Stepho's Souvlaki Greek Taverna is popular and the lines were legendary. Still I was amazed with what I saw. Suanne and I decided to go to Stepho's our Friday night out. Since we heard that the lines was long, we d
I've been to Stepho's before, but quite frankly I never got around writing a review. With my brother's recent birthday, his fiancee thought that it would be a good idea to treat us to dinner and a concert. Both my brother and I love Thievery Corporation,
