Loved the Chefs attention to detail. Very nice place, with great Sake menu and rice beer...they made sure my soy sauce was 'Wheat Free' bc of my allergy, and gave me tamari:-) We enjoyed the set menu. I had never tried baby eel, baby octopus, sea urchin...and it was all so cool to try! All of the fish was beautifully simple with the fresh wasabi and slightly warm sushi rice for each piece...I learned how to eat sashimi properly by not soaking the rice part in the tamari sauce but by dipping the fish side lightly instead. I loved the Chefs personality, made us feel very comfortable to ask questions and taught us a lot. Beautiful experience!!! Worth every penny♡ Thank you again!
Favorite place for sushi so far in Vancouver. Very clean and fish is very fresh. Chef is amazing, never disappointed with their omakase menu.
Thank you to Chef Masayoshi and his amazing staff! We had a wonderful experience from the first course to the dessert. We will be back next time we visit Vancouver!!

It was amazing, I had the omakase and I'll never forget how amazing it was. Though definitely on the pricey side it still was worth ever dollar. If you adore and love amazing quality sushi you should try here at least one.
Excellent Food and Services. It is not cheap but it worth it! Best omakase!
The food is very sophisticated and perfect, each taste bursting with flavour. It was very healthy, and was very beautifully placed. Overall, the experience was excellent. Worth every cent.
First time trying it and it was amazing. Different style of rice and better quality sushi. The fish was high quality, very fresh and event he wasabi and ginger are better quality than you tend to get. All four of us who tried it were very happy indeed. We will be back!
It is 👍🏼nice place.
Awesome food 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

When the whole coronapocaplyse shut down dine-in eating at restaurants, it was a bit of an inconvenience at first… then I started to realize just how often I ate at restaurants – turns out we’re saving a lot of money by me not eating out. After a couple of weeks, I started to get cravings for Japanese food and it so happened that I saw that Masayoshi was going to offer special take-out meals. I’ve had Masayoshi on my radar for a long time but never found the time to visit in person before so I figured this was serendipitous.
[3.5/5]Masayoshi’s original omakase tasting menu does showcase the chef’s masterful skills, especially the immaculate nigiri set and the sashimi preparation. The cooked dishes are elegant, mostly subtle in flavors. The thought behind the utilization of both Japanese and local seasonal ingredients is impressive. However, what I was looking forward to the most seemed to be missing. As described in Canada’s 100 Best, Masayoshi is known for his “radiant good humor”. The chef was too busy at the sushi bar and we didn’t receive any greeting or interaction from him. While appreciating the chef’s beautiful and delicious sushi, we were staring at the guests sitting at the counter in envy – they get to actually see the chef in action! So does Masayoshi represent the best Japanese in Vancouver? In many ways, it is, but I would be much happier to receive more of the famous Japanese hospitality that I expect from an authentic sushi restaurant. But this is just coming from a foodie who has traveled to Japan for sushi.

Located on Fraser Street, Masayoshi offers only three choices of omakase on their menu. You must also make reservations ahead of time and seating is only available at 6pm or 8pm. The restaurant had won the 2018 VanMag’s Best Japanese cuisine award, so of course I had to come check it out. We arrived at the 6pm seating on a weekday and it wasn’t too busy. The restaurant is quite small with only three tables of for larger groups, and the remaining seats are at the bar.
It was a real treat last week to have dined at the critically acclaimed Masayoshi restaurant on Fraser Street. Known for offering authentic Japanese cuisine with a modern twist, Masayoshi has been named a top Japanese restaurant in Vancouver but is also ranked #48 in a list of Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants for 2018.
Best sushi I ever had! Even it's not located at a high end location but the quality of the fish is top grade, it's just so good that words cannot expressed! I personally like the chutoro, tai, Saba, aji, Japanese uni and sea eel the most! Service was good too, the waitress that served us knows a lot about fish and is very friendly which is very impressed. It was also the anniversary of my bf and I, and they gave us a wooden bookmark with "happy anniversary" on it! It was just a really great experience and I would definitely go back again!
○good service/ reservation only and only 2 seatings - 6pm and 8pm for dinner
○good unique dishes / few options for set menu / they change set menu monthly
○very pricey for the quantity / we got the most expensive set menu ($120 pp) and still was just barely enough , still some room left / can order some items separately at the end if still hungry
○good date night atmosphere
○we try to go every month to try different menu
○if I had to choose 1 dish : sablefish
○would i go back ? Yes
Best sushi in Vancouver and among the best food experiences I've had anywhere. A beautiful, intimate restaurant, with an atmosphere exuding class and understated sophistication. The sushi is of an even higher standard than the other reputable options in Vancouver, and the food presentation in general is exquisite. Masayoshi is a very welcome addition to Vancouver's sorely underdeveloped fine dining scene.
Creative yet authentic, a very unique Japanese sushi bar in town. We tried their original omakase menu. Total 8 courses, including a few eye pleasing hot dishes, sashimi, nigiri sushi and dessert.
Quality of the food was superb. Will definitely try again, but will save it for a special day. Their pricing is pretty high comparing to most Japanese restaurants in Vancouver.
Masayoshi San definitely knows his craft, dishes are well executed and most of the fishes are sourced from Japan. Reservations is a must here and most of the time no walk-ins. Supreme Omakase requires 3 days advance notice and only on sushi counter.
I checked some review site and i gave a chance to have my dining with my friends.
review was ok,,, but actually the food was superb! so fresh and sushi was amazing. chef served sushi to us
one sushi each. most of seafood was i never had before...
i understand why this restaurant is not reasonable. because there are so many details.
you can not see but you can taste. if you never had experienced about real sushi, you will not tell the difference.
I really enjoyed. Arigato gozeimasu. i will come back for sure.
true Japanese cuisine with chef creation. I was looking for this kind of restaurant
in Vancouver. There are too many cheap fake sushi around but i am glad i found this restaurant. i had omakase with my lady first date night. and we both had great time.
this place is perfect place for special occasion. good and service was perfect for us.

So, what can I say about Masayoshi that hasn't already been said. I got Wild Sockeye Salmon Sashimi just to try out their salmon quality (and could not get any rolls because the menu has been reduced), and I'll admit that it was the best raw fish I've ever had. This doesn't change the fact that I paid $8 for four pieces of sashimi that, if combined, create enough fish to make two Sockeye Salmon Nigiri (which based off of average cost would be $3.50 for both pieces). Not to mention that, because I said it was my first time *there*, I was babied by the hostess the entire time. It's nice that there's an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant in town, and I will go back to try the Hamachi, but change the name from "Bar" to "Restaurant" and lower the prices by about 30%. This is Fraser Street, not West Boulevard. Not to mention they hadn't opened the door at 10 after.
For Valentines Day, M took me to Masayoshi sushi bar to indulge in their Omakase set for $120 per person. Usually its $100, so not sure why it was a bite more expensive than normal. Even on their regular menu, it states $100. Perhaps it was because it was Valentines Day. Either way, we were excited to give it a try since it’s been on my ‘to-eat list’ for a while now.

When we made the reservations, we had no idea what would be in the set. Even when we arrived at the restaurant, the whole meal was a mystery. It was ok for us, but it seemed to bother the table beside us as they were not very keen on raw seafood...and it made me wonder why they would dine here for the omakase.
The omakase was a good way to taste a variety of items on the menu. They were able to create some fun unique items on their menu, but it is a bit pricey for what you get. I definitely understand they use quality ingredients and the chef has 10+ years experience coming from Tojo's. I found they try to keep the dishes simple but some execution and flavour combinations didn't work. It was nice to come here for the first time, but there wasn't anything else that would draw me to come back over and over again. For the 2 of us, after tax and tip, we spent just over $300, which really hurt our wallets, but on the plus side, the dinner lasted 3 hours.
This is as close as I will be to Sukiyabashi Jiro in Japan. Tucked away in east Vancouver, this tiny sushi bar is one experience you don’t want to pass up. Many have compare3d it to Tojo’s and Maumi sushi and it definitely leads up to the expectations. Sophisticated and simple decor, there is a long sushi bar where patrons can get a front row seat at the magic that is about to unfold on the marble slabbed plate infront of them.
My husband and I stopped in for a quick bite last Saturday night as this is new in our neighbourhood and we were eager to try it out. I will echo the others in saying that they are operating with downtown prices however the food is delicious!
The sushi rice is perfect and the fish very fresh. The ambiance is good but could use some background music. Staff very friendly.
We will definitely be back for a proper full dinner sometime soon. Would have rated it higher is everything on the menu was a dollar less.
This is bar none the freshest and best tasting raw fish that you can find in Vancouver. In my opinion, it tops Tojo's easily for flavour of both the rice (which is served warm and is exactly like Sushi Saito in Japan serves it) and the fish itself. We had almost all the nigri... I just couldn't stop eating, especially the Uni and Tai. Also the salmon and avacado roll is simplicity itself, fresh and tasty. The really cool part was it reminded me of eating at sushi restaurants in Japan in atmosphere; the wait staff are really friendly and the communication was difficult at times, but with patience and kindness we ate like kings. I don't know how Vancouver will deal with the prices of some of the food though, they can be high for the portion size. But it's because the fish is really the best you can get, and that costs the chef big money. You can tell the chef takes true pride in his restaurant.
