This place is a nice hidden gem. Its all the way on Hastings, but it has affordable and tasty food. I got a regular sized chicken burrito and it was massive. The chips starter is good for sharing, and I definitely recommend the Salvadorean horchata. They have many other choices for food, and this is a good place for decent Mexican food.

Family owned and it shows. In a good way! The food is simple but very tasty. Nothing is done with excessive oil or salt so I always feel good after eating here. I don’t eat meat and I have two friends who can’t eat gluten. We all have an easy time ordering here... even the Chili Relleno was gluten free last we asked. This is my most visited restaurant 10 years running. To be fair I do live close by.

My partner is always on the search for new small, family run Mexican places for us to try. First he loves Mexican food, and second he finds these the most authentic and worthy of his money and support. We drove past this one in the morning and kept our word to come back at night. A smaller restaurant themed in yellow and blue: yellow walls, blue columns and blue counters. Hanging on these walls were paintings of birds on canvas, 3D sculptured front of homes, and a gilded piece depicting a court yard in Chrome.

I haven't been here in a while and I am going to have to change that my next trip to the Mainland. I used to head here regularly when I lived in East Van. Often I was the only customer in the place, so I am glad to see it is still operating and people have caught on.

El Pulgarcito, like a lot of good Central American places I have been to, is no frills dining. It is clean, spartan and low key. The whole menu is worth trying, but I encourage you to try the sopa de pata menudo. We really need a place like this in Victoria.

I love this place. Burritos are excellent, not like those quick tex mex places that keep popping up. Enchiladas were great too. Tacos were good. I still need to sample the rest of their menu but I keep going back to their burritos since I come here when I've had a long day and need some comfort food, and I have yet to be disappointed.

Good Stuff. El Pulgarcito makes me want to declare thet the days of Tex mex in Vancouver are over! I'm not sure if it's true, but when a plce like this exists, it gives me hope. The quality of the food here is excellent despite the "basic" approach. This is what you are looking for, when you want good Mexican and Latin American food!

Good (but not ridiculous) portions, fresh, homemade ingredients, the list goes on. Don't just go here for tacos and burritos, there's lots to explore.

Had dinner here tonight. It was pretty good. Started with the chicken tostadas and would definitely eat them again. They were awesome. For my meal I ordered the large beef encheladas and they were very good. They came with a side of beans, rice, and some kind of salad, which I ate, so it couldn't have been bad. I would have preferred getting one large enchelada over three small ones, but that doesn't affect the taste at all, so who cares. The service was really good too. No complaints from me. I will be back.

Was heading for Pho when we saw this little joint, it does not look like much on the outside, but the host and owner Hector was very pleasant and the food was very fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced. The Beef Soup was especially tasty, and the beef in the beef tacos were generous and tender.

Nice Mexican Place. Great food for a reasonable price and nice owner that cares about your experience at his place. Food is always on point. My favorite is the Chicken Enchiladas but everything I have tried has been tasty.

Found this cute little restaurant using the Urban Spoon app. We were pleasantly surprised by the inviting decor and friendly service. My boyfriend ordered a chicken burrito and it was juicy and very generously portioned. My quesadilla was full of flavor and tasted fresh. I had Horchata for the first time and found it to be the perfect balancing agent to the hot spices - sweet cool and with a nice comforting cinnamon finish. We will definitely return some day!

Good food good price. I have stopped in for simple chicken tacos. delicious at a great price! this is not tex mex this is simple good like your mom would make it if you grew up in maybe Xalapa, I had some family there and this is the kind of good tasty stuff we enjoyed. Also when they can spare, they will sell small batches of corn tortillas which are hard to come by in packs of less than20!

Deliciousness on a budget!. The food here is both cheap and tasty. The portions are big, definitely enough for a good meal. The hostess is charming. This place makes the best value Mexican/El Salvadorean food in East Vancouver in my opinion.

Pupusa palace. When I eat at a Hispanic restaurant that's NOT Tex-Mex, I like to order whatever nation-specific specialties they have on the menu. El Pulgarcito (which Wikipedia tells me is the name of a popular comic book in Spain, something you'd think the menu would mention to edify us non-Hispanic customers) has an El Salvadoran vibe, so I had pupusas. If you haven't eaten them before, think of them as Central American calzones. A pupusa is two masa harina tortillas encasing a filling like beans, cheese or meat. El Pulgarcito's weren't bad -- they tasted fresh, weren't greasy, served nice and hot -- but the filling was skimpy. It amounted to maybe 1/3 the mass of the tortillas, and wasn't strongly flavoured. El Salvadoran food might not be as spice-zingy as the northern Mexican we're accustomed to in North America, but it was underwhelming by any standard. The side dishes that came with it, a sprinkling of spiced vegetables and some slaw, were so small as to be hardly worth plating. They tasted nice, but I would have been willing to pay more for a bit more food. I'll give Pulgarcito credit for trying to be different, though. Maybe I caught them on an off day.

I believe they recently had an ownership change but I had not been there previously to compare. I am from the southwest us so I am used to good Mexican and find it very hard to come by in Vancouver. This place was a lovely exception to the bland and expensive places that you usually find (a la red burrito). For lunch it was reasonable prices for Canadian Mexican food, though they skimped on sides for my burrito. I would recommend it regardless. Dont k ow if they have takeout as I sar in for lunch, but I assume so.

Too good to pass by!. Simple, yet cheery surroundings ( I dig all of the colourful pictures of birds and such on the walls!) plus very tasty, interesting food! I enjoy the breakfast a lot although a couple slices of fruit served with it would be welcomed. The operator is a real sweetheart....love that sort of hospitality that can too often be missing on the west coast.

Whoa.. big burritos. I just ate here and barely made it home. I eat a lot, so I figured I'd need the Large Veg Burrito, but I could have left with half in a take-out bag.

Amazing value, low-key place. I love it and I'll be back to try something else for sure!

It's not much to look at, but the food is delicious and plentiful. I usually get the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde, while E prefers the same dish with less spicy mole sauce.

To start off, I ordered yuca con chicharrón. Yuca, or cassava, is boiled then fried. It’s a tuberous root vegetable high in fibre, carbs and low in taste. For this reason, it’s also why developing countries eat a lot of it.. it’s cheap and filling. You’ll notice that it’s missing protein though, so that’s where the chicharron, or fried pork skin, comes into play. This particular version is different than what I’m used to, usually both are fried to a golden crisp, but here it was boiled and saucy.

First things, first: let me re-assure you: this is NOT Latin-American week, specially considering a place I have planned to visit tomorrow and, hopefully, post on Sunday. No, Sherman, Tiffanie, it is NOT the place you are thinking… But, putting that aside
