nice and approachable staff specially the guy that assist us.(the pioneer guy)
and maybe need to expand the dining area so no more waiting for customer. its a best place for filipino food ilove it!!
Great Dine-Out experience and value for the $20 meal for three courses. My friends and I thought the service was great, the portions was generous, the food very tasty. I recommended Max to my other colleagues at work.

My husband and I came all the way from Shoreline, Washington to celebrate our 4th year wedding anniversary in Vancouver, BC and of course this is the place where we had our anniversary dinner😊 2nd tiime na namin kumain dito, 2 years ago anniversary din namin and as always masaya and masarap! As if parang nsa Pinas lang kame...definitely will keep on coming back...😊 as expected busog much!!!😀
🍤 Shrimp soup and pork soup are both in perfect taste. Fried chicken are chrunchy Halo-Halo are the best in town. Will be back again are eat.
Just had a Thanksgiving Day-2016 lunch at this Resto today. We like to say that we along with a couple of young first-time guests enjoyed the food, ambiance and outstanding service of staff particularly of Leo.
I think that they serve the best Filipino cuisine - EVER! If you're ever in Vancouver and want some Fil cuisine.... make this your only stop!
Don't expect fast service, but once the server greets you and takes your order, you'll be taken care of and won't be forgotten.
I heard great things about Maxs and didn't get to try it in the Philippines. So when I heard there was one in Vancouver, I decided to take the drive up from Seattle and give it a try.
Probably one of the best day trips I ever made.
Since this was my first time, I went with the staples. Lumpiang Shanghai, Pancit Bihon, Fried Chicken, Lechon Kawali Sisig, and Pinakbet. The food wad so good that I didn't have much of a conversation with my girlfriend, but the feeling was mutual. Our 2 yr old daughter liked the pancit so much that we had to change her clothes for the trip home. We ordered enough food to have leftovers and still raved about it when we had it today.
The food is kick-ass, damn good that I'll plan another day trip with the family, and bring my mom next time.
One of a chain of restaurants that is spread worldwide, Max’s Restaurant has delicious Filipino cuisine at this finest. They are particularly well known for their chicken which is best enjoyed with some of the Phillipine’s famous banana sauce, but other classics such as adobo and Philippine style spaghetti are also featured.
Been here several times and this Filipino restaurant is consistent with the taste of their dishes. Always satisfying and staff are friendly. A bit surprised that they’re not busy this time of lunch on weekends. Highly recommended to try.
Max’s is a Filipino restaurant located in the Killarney area. I’ve had Filipino food before in Richmond at Kumare so I was looking forward to trying more from the country. Max’s restaurant interior. The first thing we noticed upon being seated was the banana sauce. While I’ve heard many things about this sauce, I’ve never personally tried it before. It was sweet and savory at the same time and reminded me of ketchup in flavor but hoisin sauce in taste.
I had the Chopsuey meal. Overall it was great. It had their signature fried chicken leg, which was cooked very well. Oily, ofcourse for the health conscious. They gave garlic rice and chicken and shrimp salad witha sauce that went very well with the rice.
Food : 3.5/5
Service : 3/5
Ambience : 4/5
PARKING: Most people don't know free parking underground.
TIMES TO AVOID: Due to proximity to St. Mary's Church, right after Sunday Masses finishing at 12:30pm, 2pm and 6pm. Book way in advance to Christmas and Easter. Good wait time is 20 minutes. Bad wait time is 2 hours!
BANQUET ROOM AND PARTY PACKAGES: Some banquet area that can be divided. Not much room to socialize but at long tables so everyone can be together. I recommend upgrade from the basic package or better yet just order ala carte but book the room.
BIRTHDAY: You are allowed to bring your own cake!
SERVICE: No buttons like Korean restaurant so socially acceptable to aggressively flag down waiter in busy times . Regular times, serves are really attentive. Mercedes is the best!
KIDS: Family friendly with lumpia spring rolls, meat skewers or fried chicken. Not much room to move at times and place is crowded so kids can't run around as usual, so charge up the phone or ipad for entertainment.
FOOD: Great introduction to Filipino food if you don't have Filipino friends to take you around to mom and pop restaurants. Regarding the signature fried chicken, some parts come out dry but the meatier parts are delicious. Nice big menu with lots of pictures. If the fried chicken is the star of this restaurant, the crispy fried pork belly is the second star. Get lot of pork sauce and use the small dish of pickled veggies to complement every bite. Filipinos eat everything with rice by the way. The banana sauce on table really is mashed up banana, sugar and vinegar with spices dyed red to resemble ketsup. Too many favorites to mention.
SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Milkfish Tamarind Soup. Pancit Palabok ( thick rice noodles with shrimp and ground pork sauce), Beef Peanut Stew with Shrimp Paste, Sizzling Diced Pork Belly, Buko Pandan (screwpine gelatin with coconut ice cream and tapioca)
GENERAL ADVICE: Casual attire. Wear loose fitting clothing if yo don't have strong food will power.
It was a busy noon when i got there. The food was good, lots of people eating. My mom and I got the Nilagang Baka, Pancit Palabok, Mang Inasal and Max's Basic. It was delicious and the order was quick. The server that we got was nice and professional and was quick to get our order.
Mmmmmmmm. Philippino food is so unique. I wouldn't describe it as the healthiest food, but man oh man are they not shy in flavor. This restaurant has most of the classics, like the meat spring roles, yummu noodle dish and signature fried chicken. Good prices.
UPDATED REVIEW: Okay I admit defeat the Chicken Inasal was amazing although a bit higher on the price range. I also had the Bangus Sisig, not overly flavorful but it tasted good. The other dish that was an awesome surprise waa the sizzling tofu it's an excellent veggie option.
OLD: It's just okay. I did not try their signature chicken so I can't speak for that. Went here for "snacks" with a couple of friends. Had the traditional sweet filipino spaghetti and some desserts, which was pretty good, had Halo Halo, Sago at Gulaman, and Leche Flan. The service is just meh...which brought the rating down for me, the people manning the front desk are quite good at ignoring people, the servers are a bit better. But none the less not my first choice to go for Filipino food but can be a decent option.
Finally got to try this authentic Filipino restaurant located close my neighbourhood! This place gets pretty packed for dinner. There is a lot of variety on their menu, they even have breakfast options too! I was curious to try their milkfish and the Halo Halo as I hear from so many foodies that these are definitely worth trying. So what’s my verdict?
• below average service, had to ask several times for waiter to refill our water, wasn't even busy when we were there for early lunch. slow, very slow even when paying the bill.
• unsystematic way of paying the bills, just a looonnggg wait all the time
• they claim not to add MSG in their food but I can definitely feel the effects of it after digesting. it might not be MSG but might be a seasoning of some sort
• Food is actualy tasty, always love the Crispy pata!
• Pancit: this was good here; unfortunately, I ordered a party tray and the chicken was terrible hard to chew and cut in huge chunks, the veggies were undercooked and the stuff is not proportion to the noodles. Never again will I order this for a party tray
• Eggplant salad: still a bit raw but had good taste to it
• Halo halo: good for sharing, perfect dessert or snack
•$$-$$$
We often go here in groups (more than 10) and their set menu's are good and would feed everybody. Food is good compared to other Filipino restaurants I've went to but a little pricey. Service is ok as there was one time they forgot to serve us our dessert (caramel bar) that's part of the set menu's, however, they are all really friendly. I would recommend this if you don't cook awesome Filipino food and if you're a non-Filipino wanting to try Filipino dishes because the restaurant has a pretty good 'feel' compared to other Filipino restaurants, but if you cook good food, just cook at home, it's way cheaper. 👍🏽
My favorite halo halo!. Very happy that there is a Max's in Vancouver now! I go there just for the halo halo! It is so good!!
The Bicol Express is my favorite dish there - I love the little bit of spice.
However, be prepared to wait for a table here - it's always busy no matter what time we go and the service is not the most efficient.
Reservation trouble. We were a bit disappointed because right after we went and talk to the front desk, she said our name is not listed on the reservation list. I have to open my email and show my confirmation. Its disappointing getting all this hassles even with the reservation. Make sure the reservation is totally updated. Encourage your servers too,to regulary walk around and check tables so that the customers doesn't need to stand up and find somebody to serve them. For sure it will make customers happier and satisfied..more power!!! food is great.
We love this restaurant, food is great and service is good, we love the fried chicken and sisig. Price is good too, we will keep on coming back.
Whatever, haters, i was brought back to manila eating here.
2nd time and still love it!. We recently had dinner at Max's and ordered the chicken, crispy pata, kare-kare and sisig...All tasted delish! The servers and greeters are all friendly and are very well mannered! It's another great experience. If you grew up in the Philippines, same taste and better customer service experience. Goodluck and hope all Filipinos unite and patronize this restaurant. We are lucky to have one in Vancouver!
Father's Day and Birthday. I was so impress with the Service during our First Visit @ this Rest.and I love the Food .Sisig is just not Crispy enough and I requested no Langka on my Halo-halo .But still i gave good tips to my Server bec. he's well approachable and Very friendly. But than i'll still spread the good experience and good food to the community.Good Luck and more Success to your Business.
Its good... I like spicy tilapia / bicol express iba talaga asian food,
Loved it, ate with a friend of mine, and I love the food. Service was great, in my oppinion, this is the best Filipino Restaurant in Lower Mainland. I will definitely be back for more, and I certainy can't wait for the grand opening; when you are open for lunch as well. I wonder why so many people can't understand the meaning of "soft" opening. They just opened, give them a break; they're just adjusting right now. If you want to be served exactly the way you want to, then go eat at home.
Loved it =). Went there for dinner last night with my mom and sister... I would say I'm very impressed with the staff... They are very friendly, polite and attentive... The waiting wasn't too bad, only 15min. Ordered a whole chicken, kare-kare, palabok and garlic rice for main course... Then for dessert halo halo and buko pandan
Response to Sherwin (What I Noticed From Driving By Between 5-6 PM 5 Days A Week). Sherwin Its A Soft Opening For The Restaurant, They Might Not Need A Grand Opening Anymore Some Restaurant's In That Area Probably Wish They Had Line Ups Going Out The Door And Every Table Seated With Customers Every Evening Like Max's Restaurant Does The Past Two Weeks Since Opening. I'm Craving Some Salmon Sinigang And Sisig With Rice I Hope To Eat That At Max's When I Get The Chance, Peace.
It's seriously been too long since I last had filipino food...3 weeks ago LOL!! Seriously, Filipino food has won over my heart, and my tastebuds LOL! I've totally converted my grandma, she loves filipino food now haha!! She loves going out to eat with me because we always go to places she wouldn't go with her friends! She secretly hates eating out with her friends because they always go to the same restaurants, and order the same dishes (like my dad LOL!!) and then they complain about it!! I've found that elderly chinese people aren't really open to trying new types of cuisine LOL, my other grandma thinks anything other than chinese food is disgusting and inedible! Her ways can't be changed ;) SIGNATURE DISHES Max's is a chain restaurant that was founded in the Phillipines in 1949 after World War 2!! Max's on Kingsway is the only Max's in BC, the only other Max's in Canada is in Toronto! They specialize in classic filipino dishes like pansit, adobo and karekare but their signature
Service as a whole was quite good. Our server was quick to respond to all our requests and was very polite and well-mannered. He was always happy to help and quick to serve most of the time. It was a busy night at the restaurant but it didn't feel like it based on the quality of the service we received.
It was a fairly big place, super busy and full, with the male servers all carrying really big trays. They kept going back to the kitchen to retrieve more food. Many of them were sweating from the workout they must be getting. Despite the hustle, the service was ok. Orders were taken, food came, and overall the food was satisfying. But maybe this is because it was my first time going to a Filipino restaurant and didn’t know what to order, so I just let my friend who was the expert do all the ordering. Since some of us friends had gathered to dine, we were mostly busy with chatting, so the wait for the food didn’t seem to bother us. The manager looking lady was super friendly, making the baby (of my friend’s) who was getting bored smile and stop crying. Lumpiyan Shanghai Lumpiyan Shanghai was interesting and I liked it. They are bite sized spring rolls made-up of ground pork, vegetables, and and flavoring. It came in a deep fried dish from the same wrap material as the rolls which the ki
It was refreshing to see genuinely friendly service that comes from the heart and suggest dining at Max's during the weekdays for breakfast, lunch or early dinner to avoid the rush of Filipino patrons.
Max’s Restaurant is a popular, long-established franchise that started in the Phillipines after World War II. The first thing that I noted upon entering the bright and clean establishment was that it was fairly busy
Of course, just like any restaurants, there's always hits and misses. Overall, we enjoyed our meal here. Our server was attentive and helpful and always had a great smile on his face.
