This is a small Vietnamese joint located on the corner of Main Street and 33rd Avenue. They have a menu consisting of pho, rice dishes, vermicelli and drinks. I had their Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Deep Fried Spring Roll on Rice Vermicelli and Vietnamese Coffee. I really enjoyed the food. The prices were a bit on the higher end, but not unreasonable. This is a spot that's definitely worth a visit.

Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Deep Fried Spring Roll on Rice Vermicelli ($12.25):
3.5/5
I really enjoyed the spring roll, which was very crispy and had a nice savoury filling. The chicken was quite tender and juicy, although I would have liked it to be a bit more charred, and it was a tad underseasoned. The pickled vegetables were quite nice, but

Vietnamese Coffee, Cold ($5):
4/5
This consisted of drip coffee in a filter that's over a cup containing a layer of condensed milk. You wait for the coffee to slowly flow into the cup and mix it with the milk. I wanted the coffee to be cold, so it came with a glass of ice. The coffee was quite strong and had a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness with the condensed milk.

Summary:
Food: 4/5
Price: 3.5/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5

Bon Cafe is along Main street on 33rd ave.  We pass by this shop all the time whenever heading down to Pho Tan to get our Pho fix.   We decided to try something else for a change so we can blog about it. The shop is rather small and appears to be run by a husband and wife team.  The decor is not too spectacular and could use an update here and there.

I come here regularly for lunch as they are fairly quick with service. Their Bon's special sub is very good. It has the perfect ratio of meat and pickled veggies. The bun isn't too hard like other bahn mi shops. The spring roll that comes with the special combo is a little small. When I get the lemongrass chicken with vermicelli the spring roll is much bigger.

Came here for lunch for the first time. Had a bowl of pho with beef balls and rare beef and it did not disappoint. The servings were generous and the prices were decent. I think the soup was done just right. I'm not a fan of salty soup in my pho and this one was pretty spot on. Someone at another table ordered a broken rice dish and it looked amazing. Will definitely have to go back to try that.

Hidden Gem. I wish I tried Bon Cafe sooner. A total hidden gem, the food is amazing, I order the lemongrass chicken at least once a week.

Of all the pho restaurants I've tried in Vancouver, this is still my favorite. I like that I dont have to down cups of water after eating here, unlike some other places with a broth chock full of msg. When not getting pho, I get their lemongrass chicken and spring roll on vermicelli. Soo good! In terms of ambiance, its not the nicest, but I dont care when im here to eat! The owner is also a nice friendly guy.

Had a special banh mi and the pork banh mi and also a taro slush bubble tea. It was not enough. It was so good. I wanted more. Definitely coming back here.

Yummy soups. I've tried their Pho Tai and Bun Bo Hue - both were very good. While I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, this is a place I will keep going to as the owner is awesome and the broths are good. I'd probably have kept passing it by had the place next door, Au Petit Cafe not been full. Reminds me to never judge a book by its cover.

Was waiting for a table at Au Petit Cafe. Strolled over to the corner of 33rd and Main, and spotted Bon Cafe. I drove by millions of times. Never thought much about it. The exterior needs some professional advise. Not saying it needs to be pretentious....I ordered a Bun Bo Hue. Just like ordering a Chirashi sushi at different sushi restaurants, you'll get the idea how good of a sushi restaurant they are. This is one mean Bun Bo Hue! I was sweating, nose running. Accompanied with a generous size of Soda Lemon, this combination hits the right spot! I will definitely return. Next time I will try their Pho Dac Biet. Another good measuring stick, so to speak. One side note...if they haven't pasted a bubble drink sign on the window, I would have visited long time ago.

Cheap eats. I enjoy the pho combos - it includes a pop, an appetizer and a bowl of noodles. A block away from the more popular Au Petite Cafe. Can't go wrong with either place.

I never use to be a sandwich type person LOL! But lately, I've been really into carbs. There's just something about that chewiness that's SO comforting lol! Well, I decided to kill my bread craving with a visit to Bon Cafe for some bahn mi!   With the ever so popular Au Petite Cafe just a few doors down, you'd think that Bon wouldn't survive! But Bon does, and after a meal here, I can see why! So the next time you don't want to wait in line at Au Petite, come here instead haha! The food's well made, large portioned, and pretty tasty! Don't hate me for this haha, but I actually prefer Bon's Banh Mi over Au Petite's! I'll definitely come back to try more of their food hehe!   I've heard that their pho is pretty solid, and that they use real pork bone for their soup base, and from what I observed, that was what most people were ordering! Grilled Pork Bahn Mi $6.50 Combo 4/5 stars   This was really yummy! Is it wrong that I actually like this better than Au Petite's Meatball Bahn Mi? lol! The pork was lightly charred and flavourful, but but really made the sandwich was the sweet mayo/hoisin sauce! The bread was lightly toasted and really crunchy, and there was not shortage of veggies! Spring Roll 4/5 stars   These were great as well! I like "bubblier" spring rolls, as opposed to conventional rice wrapped ones! The exterior was crunchy and exhibited a nice crunch when I bit into it. The interior was moist, and the mushroom flavour really came through! The fish sauce that came on the side was more of a sweet chili based sauce than a fish sauce.    The combo also came with a side of pop, pretty good deal imo! :D

My expectations are quite simple when it comes to pho: hot, clean and flavourful broth, non-mushy noodles and reasonable amount of toppings and noodles. It’s a bonus when the broth isn’t saturated with MSG, leaving me dying of thirst as if I swallowed a bag of cotton balls. My Raw Steak & Beef Balls Pho hit all marks, even the MSG. The steak was tender while the balls were bouncy. It’s simply prepared and simply delicious.

Marv's friend Kevin suggested we try out Bon Cafe for some good vietnamese food. Bon Cafe?? For vietnamese food? Marv 'n I were open to trying it out, so off we went to Main Street 'n 33rd Ave to meet up with Kevin. It turns out this place is right on the corner. There's ample street parking around the neighbourhood. Bon Cafe 4909 Main St, Vancouver BC Tel#: (604) 325-1199 Upon entering the restaurant, there are rows of tables of 6 connected together. This is because it helps utilize the space in this small room. First things first, this place is cash only. Kevin was saying this place has really good pho, rice dishes, spring rolls as well as bubble tea! I guess we'll have to try them all! =) Surprisingly, the place was pretty busy when we walked inside. Another table had just left as we walked in, so we were lucky to snag a table together. There are pictures of some of their dishes on their table beneath the glass. Pictures c
