Came in on a long weekend Monday for lunch - super quick and efficient service. Food took no more than 5 mins to all come out and it actually tasted fresh & great! Server was attentive without being overbearing and kept our teas topped up.
Restaurant itself was clean and well lit, unlike some of the other nearby sushi joints on the Denman strip.
Very fresh salmon sashimi and a good sized Bento for dinner. Pretty good overall! I like that they do dine in or take out. Lots of menu items to try.
Decent sushi. I often get take-out from this place - decent sushi for the area - stay away from Tanpopo....My only complaint is that when you pay with credit/debit the machine demands a tip - why on earth you think I'm going to tip when ordering take-out I can't understand. There is no option to ignore it, so I tip 1 cent. It's tacky. Period.
Our favorite sushi place. Love everything there. It reminds us of our favorite place back in Toronto. Cheap and good.
Always Great. We are addicted to this place. We have tried a lot of Sushi restaurants in Vancouver, and this spot is our favorite by far. The food is always fresh, and the store is always clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Recommend to have your sushi with the Black Rice instead of the traditional White Rice. The other thing we like about Akira is the $$$$. Good bang for your buck.
Just visiting Vancouver so I read on here before I tried. I had the teriyaki box and it was the best beef I have had!! The sushi was great, and the service was excellent. Best thing was that it was only $10 after taxes!
The BC roll is the best in town. Try it once, you won't find the same anywhere else!
Good location near English bay, but portion's are small compared to another Japanese sushi shop on upper David street
Great variety of combos. Personally I always look for good roll combos at sushi restaurants, and Akira had a bunch of really reasonably priced ones. I had salmon and tuna rolls plus yam tempura rolls (that included avocado and asparagus, mmm). All of them hit the spot.
Great value.

So cheap and fresh! We shared edamame, gyoza, agedashi tofu and I had salmon and avo sushi with miso while Carso had a huge sushi platter with all different varieties. So good! Would def go back. Right on the corner of Pendrell and Denman.
