I saw this place featured on the Food Network and thought to give it a try. A co-worker also recommended it as well. The poutines came in 3 sizes and the portions were generous. Our group ordered 3 different kinds of poutine and the chicken burger. Every thing was flavoured/seasoned. The only pitfall was you were given this call button (if you will) to come pick up your order. When it went off, I went to pick it up and the employee snapped at me for taking it, telling me to wait. Strange, but ok. All in all this place is good.
My wife saw this location on TV and decided to invite a couple of friends out to try it. We ordered three different poutines and a chicken burger which came with a huge order of fries and a Parmesan peppercorn mayonnaise dipping sauce for the fries. The chicken burger was simple, but you don’t go to a BBQ place and judge them on their side salad. The Poutine was amazing and just a small order filled me up all afternoon and tasted great. I will be returning to try more.
This is a poutinerie on the Drive serving up a good variety of different flavours of poutines as well as dips. In addition to more common varieties (smoked meat, bacon, pulled pork etc), they offer some more uncommon flavours such as merguez, butter chicken, and kebab. You order at the front counter and is giving a buzzer, which goes off once your food is ready. During my visit, I ordered their Triple Decker Poutine. The dish was delicious and flavourful, with a very good amount of topping. The portion was pretty good: I had the large size, and ended up taking about a quarter of it home (it was still delicious reheated the next day). All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the food here, and I highly recommend checking it out if you enjoy poutines.
Triple Decker Poutine (Large, $16):
4/5
This consisted of fries topped with gravy, cheese curds, bacon, chorizo, and smoked beef. Of course, the fries soon got soggy from being drenched under all the gravy and meat; the ones that did not get soaked were quite crispy on the outside with a nice starchy centre, and were well seasoned. There was a very generous amount of meat present. The sausage had a nice bit of heat, the bacon was smoky while the smoked beef was incredibly tender and flavourful. The cheese curds appear to be "authentic" in that they did not melt, and had a nice chewy, bouncy texture. I found the gravy to be a tad starchy in texture, but quite flavourful with a nice bit of pepperiness. I did find the dish to be just a tad on the saltier side; it's probably best enjoyed with some beer (or water, since I'm not a drinker).

When it comes to poutine, I must admit that I am a purist. I really just want a classic poutine with fresh freshly made fries, squeeky cheese curds and well-seasoned gravy. In the past, I have taken a more adventurous route by trying more inventive poutines with creative toppings like kalbi beef, crispy chicken and even kimchi. But I never want to reorder those ones as I find their flavours too complicated in my opinion. The heart wants what it wants – and that is, a traditional poutine.
Really enjoy the variety of poutines and dips they have. Beware! the portions are huge. I'm huge, and I can't get through their large portions.
Ive only been here once. This has got to be the best poutine in town. Plus you can get pitchers of beer. I could barely finish a medium poutine it was more like a large. Two people could probably share a large, depending how hungry you are.
I ordered the regular poutine and it tasted just like any other poutine. Although, they have really big portions and I think their prices are reasonable. The service was really good and we didn't have to wait very long for our food.
Ate their 3 times, all 3 times left stuffed and happy. Excellent fries, excellent holland dip and excellent poutines. Hit this up for sure on the drive.
The decent selection of local beers on tap are what drew me to this place. Coupled with the poutine, this makes for a great way to spend an hour or two chatting with friends.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it came with chile and fries. The pulled pork was very good but I flavored it even more with the BBQ sauce. The bottom bun however got soggy very fast so I ate it like an open faced sandwich with just the top half of the bun. The fries were delicious as well. It was quite the meal for only $10!
Yummo!. Funky lil place for poutine. great fun atmosphere. Don't go here if you're looking for a romantic place for a date though. It's more of a place to hang out with your buddies over a beer and a serious plate of kickass poutine. One large order is good to share amongst 3 people. Will definitely go back!
Overall, for the amount of poutine that they give you, it’s totally worth the price, given the quality and quantity.
I guess Belgian Fries would be considered a fast food place but it's really really great. The cashier was super friendly and enough though my friends and I were short a little bit of money, she let us go. The large is gigantic I can't believe how big it is. I think their fries are a little dry and bland though once all the toppings are gone.
Love love love this place, I've been coming here for a couple of months since I saw them on the food channel.
Me and my coworker stop in weekly for an after work brew and a poutine. We have always been greeted with friendly service at the counter. The cashiers are all friendly and knowledgeable about their beers on tap. I have never had any problems.
Their food portions are enough to feed a small army, and for the price they are offered at makes the experience at belgian fries all that more enjoyable.
Since their newly renovated restaurant I can't get enough. With multiple TVs placed around the place as well as good music, I can't wait to see what's next!
Awesome!. Really good poutine, best i have had in town. They give really big portions, and serve beer! Prices are also good!
Good luck finding superior poutine. From the generosity of toppings and add-ons to the crispy fries underneath, Belgian Fries has always been thoroughly beyond satisfactory. If only such great quality were more easy to afford! It's slightly priced out of my range, but occasionally I will pass by and be unable to help myself! Such is the power of their dishes. Their bacon comes by the strip -- yes, by the strip -- and their Montreal Smoked Meat is never anything less than perfectly tender. Their dessert dishes are imaginative, though the deep-fried Mars bar isn't particularly remarkable.
The service is always happy to provide, and with a widened location (previously it was half its current size) there is plenty of room to enjoy yourself. I have no doubts that it's the best poutine I have ever eaten, far beyond places like New York Fries or the garbage from A&W/Wendy's. The only place that can even be mentioned in the same breath that I have come across is the Spud Shack.
Best Smoke Meat. OK the twice fried Belgian Fries are great (to bad they don't offer a great dutch deep fried treat the "Croquette") but failing that a Montreal style Smoked Meat on Rye was the best we have had this side of Ottawa. An Belgian Beer and a smoke meat meal with a widow on The Drive for 20$ is great Value and delicious!
Poutine Heaven. Had the Deluxe Poutine and it was hearty full of stuff with the bacon, chopped red peppers and mushrooms on top of the cheese curds and fries.. Yum!
Also tried the Deep Fried Pecan Ice Cream, really good and the shell kind of tastes like cereal so it must be good for you except for the inside ^_^
GOOD Poutine. Stopped by here recently for poutine N a beer. Had come here before their expansion and thought itr was better back then. However - still good poutine - just not as good as La Belle Patate on Davie
Get your fry fix here!. Love the selection and the portions are always huge. Having a beer with these fries always hits the spot!
I was walking on commercial in the rain and saw this place and decided to give it a shot. I ordered a burger and fries. The portion was huge and under $10. The burger was perhaps too seasoned for some, but I happen to like a lot of pepper. Fries were awesome and so are their dips.
Great veggie chili dogs and fries. Love the veggie options. Yet another awesome place on The Drive!
Pretty good.. The price was decent for the size on a medium poutine. it was a a bowl of fries. i had the chicken burger, wasnt impressed as it was like any other chicken burger. nothing interesting about it. you get your own cup of water if you choose not to buy any drinks.
i had a great time there, service was pretty customer focused. cleanliness was mediocre.
I'll make it out to belgian fries once or twice a year and it's always a treat. i love their poutine and the vegetarian gravy is an added bonus...
Poutine was good and a big portion for medium size!
Pretty good. Smoked meat poutine was a bit too meaty though. 7/10
I love poutine. I have been working my way down the list of poutines to try, and have not been disapointed yet. The only time I have been able to finish my order is when sharing it! The only thing bad I can say about here is that though their gravy is good, a vegetarian gravy can't stand up to a beef gravy when it comes to taste. Still one of my fave lunch places to go with a friend.
Great tasty fries!. My dad is a picky fry eater. He's 72 years old, I figure he's been around the fry block enough to know what a good fry tastes like. I bought a large cone of fries + hot garlic mayo and he absolutely flipped for these fries. I think next time we'll be going in to sit down so he can enjoy some poutine.
TRY THE WAR. Unbelievable fries. My recommendation is the War poutine: Peanut sauce & onions over top of their double deep fried Belgian fries. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach when I order the large, IT'S HUGE. You can also order a deep fried Mars Bar here. I don't eat here often because I don't want to have a heart attack, but when I do, it's always been great.
I think that this place is great, they seem to use really good ingredients. My wife thinks that I shouldn't be allowed to go here too often, because it can't be that good for you. But sometimes you need fries with piles of good stuff on them! The portions here are great, I thought the prices were reasonable, and I was feeling pretty satisfied after the meal. We needed a long walk afterwards. This is where I will go if I want a big, savoury, deep-fried treat.
One of my favorite spots in Vancouver.. I'm a transplant from Montreal and I know my poutine, it's been my favorite comfort food since I was little. Now I'm living in Vancouver, and when I'm not making my own poutines from scratch, I go to Belgian Fries. The recently expanded restaurant is very comfortable and spacious, and the tasty portions are (almost always) quite substantial and fresh. The average price for fish and chips is about $10 and it will definitely fill you up. The poutines are a little pricey, but cheese curds cost a lot so I think it's about right for the amount you get. The gravy is vegetarian and perfect, and they always layer the cheese down to the bottom just like they should! The service is always very friendly and helpful. In the summer you can enjoy a very pleasant, uncrowded patio. I love this place and try to support it by eating there often! (PS- If you'd like to make your own poutine, you can buy cheese curds at La Grotta Del Formaggio which is just down the street.)
Fries in the heart of the drive, nothing beats that.
THE BEST poutine I've ever had! Lovely service.
Best Poutine in Vancouver. Since they renovated the place, it has a great feel, the food is great and some of the best comfort food I have ever had, sometimes seems to be a little short staffed but the food still comes out quick and is tasty, I would recommend eating there as Poutine doesn't take away well.
One memorable afternoon, my partner and I seated ourselves in front of the window to share the extra extra large order of fries with curry dip. To make this experience even more special was the amount of double-takes by the passerbys. Enjoyed every minute of it. Topped it off with a deep-fried Mars bar. Nothing wrong with this place!
Deep fried food, oh so good. I am hooked on their poutine - heart attack in a bowl but worth every calorie.
The dips are also all awesome and this place boasts some pretty interesting flavors (curry or wasabi?) although I tend to stick to classic garlic mayo.
Best Poutine. At least according to my poutine-addicted son. Also have rarities like Poutine Galvaude (with chicken and peas).
The regular fries are great, too, especially with chipotle mayo.
Hey guys! With great fries, come great poutine right? Belgian Fries hopes to prove that point true, but do its poutine and beer selection stand up to the challenge? Read on to find out. Food: Team Muskateers came here after a night of ramen and we feasted on some Butter Chicken Poutine and an Old Boy brown ale from Parallel 49 . I’m not a beer connoisseur so all I can say about the Old Boy is that it had some good bite to it but not enough to soil the taste of the poutine, which by the way, was really good. Buttery smooth curry gravy soaks through the fries and the cheese curds give a small squeak as you bite into them - a sign of good cheese curds. The fries were also really good; double baked so they’re crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chicken topping wasn’t anything too fancy but it wasn’t too dry when mixed in with the butter curry gravy sauce. All in all, this is a great spot to hang out with some bros and sisterhoods. I had a small poutine and I was stuffed so I can easily see the large poutines being easily shareable. Features: This is a medium-sized restaurant that can hold about 100 guests with its interior and patio. There is a small 19+ area in the corner so you can get away with just ordering alcohol if something like St. Augustine’s isn’t your fancy. The patio is a nice place for people watching in the summer if you can get the corner facing the Drive. Service: How it works here is you pay for your meal first, take a number, and grab a seat. It took about 5 minutes for my poutine to be ready so that was great. Water service is self-serve along with tons of condiments at the back.Tables are bussed by the staff so make sure to leave some sort of tip to heed this appreciation. One-liner: Great poutine option on Commerical Drive Highlight: Butter Chicken Poutine Recommended for: Those poutine cravings Would I go back? Yes. Chili, fries, chili, fries, chili, fries, chili… I wouldve never expected that. At all.
We suggest you drop by Belgian Fries next time you’re on the Drive. With fair prices, friendly service and tasty food, it’s become one of our new fave quick bites in the neighbourhood.
Went online lately and was look for poutine and came across a place called Belgian Fries. I’ve read a lot of good reviews about it so decided to check it out. I’ve been to a few poutine places like Fritz, La Belle Patate on Davie and of course the regular poutine places like Costco and New York Fries. Finding authentic poutine, like the ones I had in Quebec is simply impossible. Below is a photo of this amazing sausage poutine that I had in Quebec City’s Chez AshTon. The cheese curds are so fresh hence the squeekyness and the fries are just right! Alright, lets get back to Vancouver… After going to so many places, I’ve given up on finding real cheese curds and instead I’ve ju
Lovely gravy and large chunks of curds! The potatoes though were more moist than crispy....
Feeling a mite peckish, I ducked into Belgian Fries for some sustenance. Besides fries, you can also find poutine (of course), onion rings. burgers, fish and chips, hot dogs, and more. They even have pitchers of beer.
Belgian Fries: Best Poutine in Vancouver
I'm on Team Fritz in the Fritz vs. Belgian Fries debate, but this is still a good place for poutine in Vancouver. The menu is a bit bigger than Fritz's, with some more exotic combinations. In addition to fries fries and more fries, they also sell such hea
I been meaning to check out Belgian Fries, so we decided now would be the perfect time. At this point, I was pretty full, so R chose a medium Deluxe poutine to share for $7.69.
When I read " Could I quit the drinking but keep the hangovers " at Salon.com's advice column, I thought I had come across a true crazy, asking nutty questions like that. But then this past weekend, I realized that the pain of a hangover justifies the com
They have daily specials, one that I noticed that seems to be a good value was a halibut + fries for $9.99. They have burgers, hot dogs, and deep fried sweets. There are 10 different flavors of poutines and prices range from $6-9, medium and large.
After dropping the boys off for yet another of their top secret training, Suanne and I decided to go to Commercial Drive. We hardly ever go to Commercial Drive at all. Not sure why though, especially knowing that there are a lot of good eating places here
