Fresh, delicious Thai and friendly service. Love this place. The food is fantastic and everything I've tried has been excellent. Tons of great options to choose from, speedy service and the prices are quite reasonable. Once you go, you'll keep going back!
I brought my mom here for Mother’s day. Rather than having the typical Chinese food or Steakhouse that we usually have on such occasions, I thought to take my family out for some thai food to change things up a bit 🙂 This is my second time here at Talay Thai. The first time I came, I left impressed. That time, we ordered Chicken Wingettes, Tom Yum, Green Curry, Pad See-lew, and Fried Banana with Mango Ice cream, all of which were pretty good! Therefore, I knew it was a safe card to bring my family, who never tried Thai food, here 🙂 The food arrived pretty slow and our waitress apologized for that. But we were impressed and happy after eating the food, so overall we had a great dining experience. I informed the waitress that my mom could not eat nuts and asked her to put it on the side for dishes containing nuts. She kindly did so. Anyways, the food here is amazing and the restaurant does not use any MSG to bring up the flavors. I’m glad I took my mom here, she loved it.
Work by this cute little restaurant and come here for lunch from time to time. We usually call ahead to pre-order as we have a short lunch break. They are very accommodating when we visit with 10+ people right before lunch hour. The service is great and staff are friendly. Food is delicious and very decent priced. Lunch specials for $9.50 and comes with a spring roll. Love their flavours!
In my obsession to find the Thai restaurant that will bring me back on a flavour journey to Bangkok went I went for a visit last year, I stumbled upon this restaurant. Having also passed by this place on my way to Richmond, I never thought to give it a try, thinking it must be one of those local thai restaurants adopting western flavours. Very pleasantly surprised however, impressed to say the least!
Try the green chicken curry with the thai eggplant - best we've ever tasted for green curry! Had it two nights in a row last week... Haven't tried much else on the menu yet, it's hard to break away from the usual pad thai and green curry, but I imagine it's all tasty.
Very good Thai place with a nice, traditional atmosphere.
Service is good, prices are decent, and the food is yummy. I guess that's all you can really ask for.
Great food. Good size portions for the price. Good service. I'll definitely being go back again.
My Favorite Thai Restaurant in Marpole area in Southern Part of City of Vancouver. No matter what curry you eat, the curry dishes from this restaurant is excellent. This place is owned by a Thai Family. I talk to different members of the family. I takes me about 25 minutes walk to this restaurant. I like ordering the spicy water spinach stir fry dish. It is around $12.00 dollars to order this dish. The chinese people call the Water Spinach in English, but in Cantonese Chinese, it is called "Ong Choy". This a cheap vegetable to buy, but it takes time to clean and cut before you can cook it.
They open for lunch time and close between lunch and dinner and open again at 5 pm. It is not a fast food type restaurant and it is very cheap. There are many item in the menu to pick from. Most of the restaurant in the Marpole area are Chinese or Japanese restaurant. Some time the place is very busy. I think people should try it,
Amazing. After reading some of the reviews I felt it was important to share our experience.
My wife and I enjoy dinning out and often try new restaurants. Gothams, Black and Blue, U and I Thai all are excellent restaurants, however we find ourselves going back and back to Talay. The food is fantastic and the fact that it is family owned and operated is evident by the fact that after a few times dinning they remember who you are and the type of food you enjoy. The prices are reasonable and the service excellent.
I highly recommend that you try Talay as you will be hooked.
Thanks again for the warm and friendly atmosphere as well as the excellent food and service.
Sincerely,
Larry and Jodi
The best authentic Thai food in Vancouver ... No question !! You will always receive a warm welcome and treated well. That is my favorite place to eat once in Vancouver
BEST THAI FOOD IN TOWN!. I honestly made an account JUST to review this restaurant. If you live in this area, like Thai food and have never been here, you're missing out BIG TIME. This restaurant is a small family-run business with the most amazing cook and the nicest staff! They're from thailand and their food is the most authentic thai food you're going to get in Vancouver period. I've tried a couple places and this was and REMAINS the best. The service is excellent!!! I love this vegetable dish which is usually prepared with ong choy (morning glory). Morning glory is however hard and if not impossible to buy during some seasons. The first time I went there, seeing that I was disappointed that the vegetable was not in season, the waitress Coco (awesome, sweet girl) asked the chef (such a pretty mother!) to make the dish with spinach and bai cai (chinese white cabbage i think) and it was great. I just went there today again and they ran out of spinach and the uncle actually went to buy spinach at the grocery store so we could have the dish. HOW AMAZING IS THAT? Which restaurant does that here? Not only do they serve THE best thai food in Vancouver (make that in all the surrounding cities too), the service was impeccable too. Love them and will definitely be a regular customer!!!
P.S.: Because it's so authentic, do NOT ask for spicy UNLESS you're truly prepared for it. When you ask for spicy in Vancouver, it's usually not spicy but when you do ask for spicy here, prepare to get THAILAND. b(>
Scrumptious. I've been here before, but I was away overseas for a while. Just got back and on the way in from the airport got off the taxi with my colleagues to eat another fabulous meal. The place was packed and busy; I guess it is getting more and more well known. And now they do free delivery, so I'll be letting my fingers do the walking as I have a place in Marpole, too. But I can see why the place is always jam-packed. The food is so,so,so scrumptious coz it is genuinely authentic Thai. All the other Thai restaurants around town I ever frequent seem so bland and tasteless by comparison... sort of like Chinese food dressed up as Thai but for Western palate. Talay Thai is really the real thing like in Thailand... same flavours and same aromas. And guess what? They have added a new menu to the old one, with special dishes from central Thailand... dishes I have never seen in other Thai restaurants around Vancouver. And... boy... are they ever delicious. I tried their Kai Yat Sai... a true omlette, not the fritata that goes for "omlette", filled with wonderfully savory stir-fry and cilantro. Also their jungle curry is different than elsewhere and the staff told me it sells better than their genuine Phat Thai, which is not made with ketchup like everywhere else. I also had their Khao Man Kai. You know for the same price of a regular dish in this meal you also get free rice and a bowl of melon-chicken broth soup. What a great deal. I think I'll be eating from here often now. Beats cooking myself.
The Best In Town!. With each bite you take you will experience a state of confusion. What i mean is... you will ask your self 2 simple questions,"how can something taste so f***ing good" and "why only now am I treating myself to this godly like meal". Stop reading any other reviews, just go.
Lovely food, great service!. Lovely Thai food. Excellent find, great for takeaways too!
Very good just like your in Thailand ! best I've had in a long time. A new neighbourhood gem
When we arrived for lunch on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, the restaurant was nearly full. We were seated right away, and when we requested a cosier table in a corner, we were accommodated without hesitation. The service continued to be excellent throughout the meal. There is quite an extensive selection of lunch specials, and many of them come with a vegetarian spring roll. All of our dishes came quite quickly, and we enjoyed them very much. Finally, the decor was clean and pleasant.
Better than Bangkok!!!. I would consider myself a true lover of Thai food, and have sampled Thai cuisine at many Vancouver restaurants and several in Thailand. Without a doubt Talay Thai is the best Thai food that I have ever had. If you combine the quality and taste of the food with great service by very attractive young Thai girls, and all of this at amazing low prices.
The combination of great food, great service and great value will make Talay Thai one of those great small restaurants where people will line up to get in. Make sure you go there soon while this little gem is still being discovered.
The owner, management, chef and servers are all expert in the very broad range of Thai dishes, and what you would not expect a small but very good wine list - once again at great value.

Check this place out!. Been there a few times with my friends. Gotta say I love this place. The food is awesome and the staffs are very friendly and attentive. The food was very tasty and cheap. My friends and I had grilled chicken, jungle curry, pad thai, and cashew chicken. The grilled chicken took a little while but it was well worth the waiting. The pad thai was awesome unlike the other thai places here. Definitely my favorite thai place! Check this place out if you happen to be in the neighborhood!
Friendly service, fresh and tasty food, great value.
I stumbled upon Talay Thai Food while trying to go to another near by restaurant that was closed. My friend and I only stopped by to get a quick dinner, and so we only ordered 1 appetizer and 1 main to share. For the appetizer, we ordered the Stuffed Chicken Wings . I've had stuff chicken wings once before at Lhy Thai and they were delicious. One order of stuffed chicken wings here came with 2 pieces which was not enough in my opinion. These wings were boneless and stuff with moist minced meat and glass noodles. Together with the tangy sweet thai sauce, they make awesome finger food. It would not be a bad idea to sell these on a food truck either.. someone go do it! For main, we ordered Jungle Curry with chicken . It had loads of vegetables including bamboo shoots, green pepper, mushrooms and green beans. It was a sour and spicy based curry and it was again, pretty delicious. To me honest, I was a little skeptical upon walking into the restaurant because it was really empty.
A couple weeks back, while waiting on a table at Red Star Seafood , we noticed Talay Thai right across the street. Even with a reservation, we'd been waiting almost thirty minutes. We were three empty stomachs dying for a feed. The thought of Thai curries and spicy noodles was starting to overwhelm us. Just as we were about to head over, the hostess called us in. Ah well, dim sum it is… Talay Thai is a spot I've been meaning to hit up for a long, long time. With a continual stream of raves around the web, I got to figuring that this place was a sure thing. This is one vibrantly colored, tiny room. It's about as clean as you could imagine, to boot. The moment you enter there's a warm, comfortable vibe. I'm sensing a great feed! Por Pia Tod ปอเปี๊ยะทอด ( Vegetarian Spring Rolls ). Nothing too spectacular yet really well made. Knowing the plum sauce is homemade gave these a step up. It's not too often a place will take the time and effort to create their own. The S
