Summer means gelato, frozen yogurt, ice cream or anything that is sweet and cold. My friend just texted me to say hi and we end up eating gelato on a hot summer day. We discover a newly opened gelato place in Main Street. . The owner was really happy to see us. She was telling us how the business started. She was very kind to let us try some of the flavors. From fruity, chocolate, limited edition and unique flavors. Trust me the more flavors the more time you spent thinking what to get.
Delicious Gelato. They just opened under new management today, excellent service and great selection of gelato and vietnamese snacks and coffee and tea.
Good flavours and colours. Bellagio's doesn't have as many flavours as Casa Gelato -- but that place is like an ice cream encyclopedia -- but it's got a few more than Amato Gelato. Its dairy treats are as rich as Amato's, and I rate them as slightly less airy than Casa Gelato's. So Bellagio's does well in both the taste and selection categories. On one of the 12 or 13 days of decent summer weather Vancouver gets each year, I find it more pleasant to sit outside of Bellagio's eating a cone and watching the Main Street hipster parade than I do in the picnic garden at Casa Gelato (which is surrounded by Eastside-ocity) or outside at Amato, which is like having dessert at a drive-through construction site.
One gripe I have about Bellagio's is that there is no no-frills cone option. You have to pay an extra 50¢ for a waffle cone or eat it in a cup. So a two-scoop cone costs $6, and that's not kid stuff.
I was struck by the unusual colours of some of Bellagio's gelatos like the azurro, which is a vibrant, almost psychedelic hue just a bit darker than baby blue. Flavour wasn't all that special, mainly sweet and bubble-gummy. Salty ice creams seem to be a new trend I hadn't been conscious of before. I had a "salted peanut" which was nicely nutty, with the salty edge sharpening the flavour. I was hoping to taste the salted caramel flavour, because my wife recently bought an ice cream maker and she's been cranking out batch after batch of this salted caramel gelato that's like the crack cocaine of ice cream. Especially because she puts crumbled-up Skor bars in it. Too bad Bellagio's was sold out of theirs when I visited, but I doubt it could top my wife's.
The Gelato was okay.... The best services!!!
