I have to admit, if it weren’t for the regular trade and thoroughfare we noticed going in and out of the Laughing Bean I can’t say the external decor would’ve enticed me in. Very outdated from the outside and I was pleasantly surprised once inside! Nice service, nice coffee and delicious gluten free carrot and walnut muffin...mm sweet and cinnamony! Will be getting another one tomorrow.
I don't normally do reviews of Coffee joints but this one is just too good to miss. I love the selection of breakfast choices and they really do make the best coffee around. Not that I'm looking for a 90's throwback with my coffee but this place certainly provides that. Great attitude, service and products makes for a great experience.
Very good cuppa & muffin. I like the homey feeling of this place. Lovely outdoor area to sit in a sunny day. Very good cup of coffee, and the pumpkin pear muffin i had was rich and moist (although it lacks my preferred big crisp top). Friendly staff.
'Tis the season for iced coffee. I don't normally drink iced coffee. I like my caffeine hot. If I wanted something watered down, I'd order a frickin' Americano. But it was torrid in Vancouver terms -- almost 25 degrees! So I rode in to Laughing Bean for an iced latte. A little on the pricey side at $4.20 (including tax) for a medium. It had good strong flavour. But to tell the truth, you can make a half-decent iced coffee even with bad espresso, because it's so diluted by the melting ice cubes and milk. And sugar -- I like iced coffee with LOTS of sugar, because I'm usually sweaty/dehydrated when I drink one. The baristas at Laughing Bean cranked mine out nice and quickly, in part because it was 5 minutes to closing time. I don't know why they'd be in a hurry to leave, though. Laughing Bean has air con. Did I mention it was almost 25 degrees outside?
Hospitality. What I really enjoy about it here is that the baristas/servers are consistently delightful and helpful. The drinks aren't cheap, but they are nice and made how you request. They sell the big ol ends of loaves here...my fave! Don't expect a brisk Yaletown air here - this spot is easy going!! : )

Feels like Home. The Laughing Bean is a Vortex. A Livingroom filled with coffeenosers who go there more for the atmosphere than the coffee. Seldom do you find a place where people are open to enguaging in conversation. When I am working in East Van or in the Valley I always plan a stop at the Laughing Bean.
This is my favourite coffee spot in the city. They have great food and fantastic coffee. I go out of my way to stop here. It is fun and friendly too, a really popular community cafe. Lots of bike parking.
