Po Kong Vegetarian Restaurant is on a stretch of Kingsway where there seems to be a nest of places that offer non-carnivorous options, near Knight Street. They offer dim sum until 1:30 pm and that's what we were interested in. It should be noted that they have an extensive full-day menu with combinations for larger groups. One problem is that the dim sum menu on their web site is fairly illegible. We solved this by seeking out the menu on Yelp and hoping that the selections and pricing hadn't changed too much (they hadn't). So we phoned in our order, picked it up and drove home. I try to order these days keeping in mind that there will be travel involved and surprisingly, even the delicate items made it home, starting with Deep Fried Radish Cake. These were flaky and tasty. Rather than the 'cake' that I expected, the filling was more of a finely shredded mixture of radish, mushroom and whatever else. Not what I would call overly seasoned (some of the dishes were somewhat bland but shone when we added the accompanying sauces) but of lovely texture and we enjoyed them. We tried their Barbecue Buns. They were on the fluffy side and not overly dense. The filling was a tasty mixture of I'm not sure what but almost certainly including bamboo shoot which lent its slightly crunchy texture. The peanut dumplings were decent also. Not loaded with peanuts but just enough and again a mixed vegetable filling. The wrapping was maybe a bit on the thick side but not enough to be a problem. Deep-fried Taro Dumplings is always one of our favourites. These can be quite dense at times but we were pleasantly surprised that the filling included not just the usual taro but a vegetable and mushroom mixtures lending a little needed lightness. Very nice! Lo Hon Rice Roll was next and we always order rice roll with our dim sum. In keeping with the theme, these had what was now a familiar mixture of the enoki mushrooms etc. They came with the usual dipping sauces one peanut and one sweeter. Finally, we had the Beancurd Skin Rolls with Black Bean Sauce. Pictured on their website, we could hardly resist and it did not disappoint. Pleasantly chewy rolls were paired with a tasty black bean sauce and a few bell peppers and mushrooms, this was the plate that we polished off first. This is another, must order dish. Another pleasant dining room that we would like to visit someday. A common them that we are finding with the people who provide us with our food is the old positive attitude and hope that if we all hang in there a little longer, and even stay the course when things return to semi-normal, then we will be OK.

Really good for a veg dim sum alternative! Overall lacked a little of the greasy richness you’d find at more traditional Chinese spots but flavor was good and still kills the craving for dumplings.

I don't give 5's often but this is Po Kong.  Bean Curd Skin Rolls,  nuff said.   Their lineage is vast, stemming from the notorious Bo Kong on Main St.   Their food hasn't changed in decades,  Always good and always consistent.   Thanks for carrying on the tradition.  Vegan Chinese food is the best.

First time having Vegetarian Dimsum and it wasn't that bad. We were a little hesitant to try since we our all meat lovers, but hey gotta try something new sometimes.

Fungus Dumpling - This one was definitely my favourite. Similar to the shrimp dumpling (har gow), but this one is filled with white fungus. Simply delicious.

Sweet & Sour Pineapple Delight - What's missing in this title is that there is tofu in this dish which replaces the pork. According to the waitress this is one of the most popular dishes. I thought it was delicious. However, I did miss the pork a little bit!

Sticky Rice - Also delicious. Lots of filling in this sticky rice compared to other dimsum restaurants.

Service - There this this one guy who served our table. Top Notch! At all times he made sure every table had food and were satisfied. He definitely thinks outside the box. The other waiters/waitresses need to learn from him! We felt taken care of during our entire dine-in.

Had a great experience here! As someone who has been going to dim sum my whole life, I wasn't expecting much since all options are vegetarian. But to my surprise, the food was delicious! Sure, some items were not quite as flavourful as if they were real meat, but they were still delicious. As well, the service was very attentive and polite. Would consider even bringing my non vegetarian friends here.

The best Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant I'm Vancouver in my opinion. This place was packed, and I know in Buddhist religions there are certain days of the month that a family will reframe from eating meat, therefore they would often go to a vegetarian restaurant, but I went today and according to a reliable source today wasn't even one of those special days and there was a line out the door. My family even made reservations and we still had to wait thirty minutes for the table. The dimsum here is also very delicious if you're vegetarian, obviously you won't be seeing the typical sui mai and haw gai dishes, but they make quite good substitutes for their protein. I also like the dinner menu, their crêpes and monkey head speciality dish is something I would recommend if you come here for dinner. But be warned its a popular restaurant for dinner.

Came here for a vegetarian dim sum. I love the veggie bbq bun but its a bit too small comparing from the last time I came here. spring rolls and radish cake are good. The sticky rice covered by banana leaf were yummy. The price has increase, especially the menu and the set.

Great tasting food, and great service as well. I definitely recommend their sizzling chow mein or their "steak" with black pepper sauce. And go hungry, because you'll probably end up overeating anyway.

One of the best Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver!! It's so good you don't even know you are eating vegetarian. Our favorite is the baked cheese rice, fried milk balls and imitation beef. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to eat Chinese style vegetarian food.

Generally tasty stuff... have had the odd things that taste bland but overall good food. Veggie chicken cutlets are pretty tasty.

Nice place to bring Family.

A whole new cuisine. Po Kong and its sister-restaurant Bo Kong ((now gone, alas) are my first experience of Buddhist Chinese food, and it's a remarkably good experience. It's quite different from regular Chinese food, with wonderful tastes unique to this style. We've had dim sum every time so far, and been amazed at the high quality and low prices of all these new (to us) dishes. Soon we'll try the regular menu, and I have no doubt it will be just as good, but I'm reluctant to give up the delights of dim sum as offered here. Some of the dishes use various forms of fake meat; others are a whole new taste. I particularly loved the Bo Kong rice sheet roll, and the pan-fried turnip cake, both of which we had last time at Po Kong.

Friendly service and the place is usually very packed on special occasions like Mother's Day or Chinese New Year (of course). So make sure you make a reservation! The only downside is their location because parking spots are very limited considering how there are other restaurants nearby. Might have to park in the back or the nearby alley

Vegging Out on Veggie Dim Sum. This place got packed as the lunch rush started after noon on a Saturday. Ordered the deep fried taro balls, spinach dumplings, fried bean curd rolls and pea shoot rice rolls (our favourite, excellent!). All fresh, tasty and reasonably priced :) Just $2.50 for the bean curd rolls and spinach dumpling - wooot! It was worth it to see the look of pure delight as the veggie hubby could actually eat everything delivered to our table. My only wish is to have a bit more variety on the dim sum menu and to add a bit more flavour profiles to the dishes. For once I didn't feel guilty gobbling down all the shrimp that seems to dominate most dim sum dishes. Here's to reducing our carbon foot-print and many future happy eats at Po Kong!

good little vegetarian chinese restaurant with a friendly owner and solid food. Theres a lot of variety with their vegetables (some I hadnt had before) , great meat subtitutes ( The faux ham in the colourful
rice is awesome) and its reasonably priced.

It may not blow everyone away but I prefer it to 3g.

Very Impressed!. Being a serious meat eater, it wasn't my choice to try this restaurant. I was expecting a boring bland vegetarian meal but I was completely wrong! It made it to the top of my list of favorite Chinese restaurants.

They did a wonderful job of balancing tastes, textures, and the replication of meat in their meatless dishes.Very impressed with most of their dishes, especially the faux mushroom steak!

The real deal. Po Kong is the original Bo Kong, all but one of the same staff, apparently. Same owner, same menu, prices etc. I was so sad to see Bo Kong change, and could taste the difference in food when it became hole vegetable, and never went back. The name Po Kong means the light of buddha shines on all beings, Bo kong means shines from afar. Whole vegetarian at the old bo kong location is a knockoff. Go to Po Kong for that great food if you enjoyed Bo kong! accomodating chefs. Happily reunited with this restaurant!

Basically Bo Kong with a new name. I don't know what the story is behind the name, but if you've been to Bo Kong or Whole Vegetarian Restaurant, it's basically the same stuff.

The service is acceptable, and the food comes out relatively fast on a moderately busy lunch hour. Some of the dishes (like the Sweet & Sour "Pork") are a bit greasy, but they are all very flavorful considering they don't have any animal products, onions, or garlic (or at least I don't think they use the latter, since it's a Chinese Buddhist restaurant).

I think it's a tad pricier than Bodhi Choi Heung, if that means anything to you.

I think there was bean sprouts in there too. There is so much variety in this dish that you forget there's no meat.

When dining with a vegetarian it is nice to accommodate their dietary restrictions once in a while. Today we decided to not force our veggie friendly third to order lunch on a carnivore-full menu. We got her to suggest the venue, and I was excited to see how it stacked up in flavour. Would I be satisfied without the animal protein I unusually crave. Parking was inconvenient. The parking out front was packed on both sides of the road, and the lot in the back had guests boxing one another in. After a few laps around the block, I was forced to park a couple of blocks away. Walking up and in, things looked a lot like your run of the mill Chinese restaurant. After you turn the corner, to avoid the glass partition, you are face to face with their restaurant’s shrine. A wooden stand home to a porcelain Buddha statue and its fruit offerings. This and the artwork pinned to walls speak to their Buddhist beliefs and inspirations. The dining room was made up of round family style tables covered in
