it's a cold and nippy day in Vancouver i decided to grab a nice warm meal i ordered the Hot & Sour Soup and the Nutritious Noodle with Lamb and Vegetables in soup, after trying (Banana Leaf and Peaceful Restaurant) the Hot & Sour Sour here is the best OMFG!!! it's freakin delicious the best of the best with honour it's got a good spicy kick the Noodle with Lamb is a very hearty meal the bowl was packed with wholesome goodness. i would highly recommend this place don't forget to bring your appetite
Best noodles I've ever had!! I could smell the spiciness of the noodles as it was coming to my table which had me over the roof. That first bite had me up in the clouds.. Smooth on the outside, chewy on the inside. Waaaay too good. Def recommended
One of my most favourite noodle places. Spicy cutting noodles and green onion pancake. So damn good. Although i tend to stick with what I know, I love it. Go there if you can.
The beef rolls, pork dumplings, hot and sour potatoes, and chicken cutting noodles are always delicious. They always have us coming back for more.

Ambiance
I love the red lanterns that greeted me outside of the restaurant. I love that there are pictures of the food everywhere. It certainly helps to see what a dish looks like before ordering. The staff were friendly and attentive enough and the same time gave me my privacy as I did my foodie pictures etc!
Chopstick Fest Oct15-30, 2016 Set Menu for two
Cucumber with sesame sauce
Beef and tripe with spicy sauce
Green Onion Pancake
Steamed Dumplings (choice of dumplings)
Stir fried beef and cutting noodles
Additional to take out:
Shaolin Beef Roll
Buddha's birthday noodles
The noodles arrived first, steaming hot, freshly made! I wanted to wait for all the dishes to come so I could take a pic of the full spread! The next was the cucumber, then the beef and tripe, the pancake, then the pork and seafood dumpling which were steaming so much! I tried the noodles first. I love noodles and this was such a treat to have fresh handmade noodles. These ones were the wide, flat variety, which I do not usually order. I should order it more, they're delish! Then I tasted the cucumber. Nice change of taste, temperature and flavour, love the use of the vinegars as well. Peanutty sauce on top and vinegary on the bottom. Then I ventured to taste the beef and tripe. Pleasantly surprised at the full flavour of the peanut pieces, cilantro vinegar flavour! The texture of the beef and tripe were perfect! I did not have any trouble with the tripe at all! I usually stay away from the slimy texture, but having the beef pairs with the tripe made if quite tasty! Love the pancake and dumplings. This was not the first time for these and Shaolin didn't fail to please my palate with all the dishes in this set menu! Well chosen flavours. I wish someone would help me order all the time!!!! Thanks to Chopstick Fest! I also wanted to try the beef roll and another noodle type. Not disappointed! Both very good!
Service
Very impressed how fast the service was. Every hot dish arrived steaming hot. I hear the ringing of the "pick up" bell and the waiters zoom by to pick up their orders. I had planned to just sample a bite of each dish and take the rest home for my husband.
Will I be returning?
Yes, I will definitely be back for the other authentic dishes at this great Vancouver location!
I liked Shaolin Noodle House. I tried the cutting noodles which I found to be a bit doughy and large. The beef and broccoli was adequate - I wish there was more meat though. The sauce was good, simple and tasty. I'd like to go back and try a thinner noodle. It was fun being able to watch the noodles being made.
Shao Lin Noodle House has been delighting diners with their Northern Chinese style hand-crafted noodles for 20 years now. At Shao Lin, you can even view these freshly handmade noodles being prepared through the open kitchen. Some noodle choices that they serve include cutting noddles, dragging noodles, pushing noodles, round noodles and stewed noodles in soup. You can customize the style of noodle for a wide range of dishes prepared MSG-free including fried noodles, soup noodles, stir-fried noodles, and more.
They've been a Vancouver tradition for years, known for their dumplings & noodles.
Ordered delivery online, but beware, there's like 3-4 different ones, shaolindelivery.ca is their official one, & offers the best deals, tip :)
Free parking in the back.
My favorite Chinese restaurant in vancouver. It is amazing especially the hand made noodle dishes , the cutting noodle dishes are out of this world. The service is generally terrible but the food makes up for it everytime. Only issue I have is that they only accept credit cards on bills over 20 dollars which is annoying.
I went there long time ago~ I had beef noodle maybe and beef roll. BEEF ROLL is my favorite!! It's really tasty especially when its hot!! I want to go there again to try some other noodle
Best chinese food. I went there last night and ordered chicken with diced peanut, OMG, it tastes so good. Sha lin is my favorite chinese restaurant in town now,i will definitely be going there more often.
I am a regular diner there, every time I been there they never let me down. Authentic Chinese food, kind atmosphere, attentive service. Definitely worth a try.
Yummy. I got dragged in here (no pun intended) for dragging noodles. It's a bit small here and had to wait a couple minutes for a seat but not a big deal. Do yourself a favour and get the dumplings you won't regret it.
No fills goodness. I've come twice now. The location is nice def not much in the way of decorations though. Hey it's all about the food anyway right? The noodles are cooked to perfection and the beef flavour poured off of them. The dumplings were... too much?? I could only get through half the order but the rest I packed up for later.
No frills with the decor or the service but for lunch that's all I want.
Dumplings dumplings dumplings. The dumplings got me addicted. It's bad I might have to seek help. I eat them until I almost explode and then I order more. Note to self, eat the noodles first.
I've only been to 2 noodle houses but this one is tops. The other one didn't let me watch my food being prepared like I was peeking in on a butcher. Other than the dumplings I suggest the fried cutting noodles with beef. They come with onions and peppers but I'm not feeling like a grease ball after like when I have a burger.
For a one trick pony the menu options read like a novel. Quick service, good food, good price.
Consistently Good Comfort Food. We havne't been to Sha Lin since it moved to this new larger location and admittedly we have been going to Peaceful. However we happened to be close by and decided to check it out.
We had the cumin lamb stir fried cutting noodles which are always good. Stir fried with pieces of broccoli. Noodles were chewy, but it arrived with a noodle hanging off the side thus when the dish was set down the noodle was in contact with the table. The server seemed to apologize but it's kinda sloppy service.
Hot and Sour soup hit the spot for me. Nice balance of sourness from the spiced black vinegar and spicy heat. Packed with thinly sliced crunchy woodear mushrooms, bamboo, and tofu. There were small occasional pieces of pork. I also like that there is no MSG in the food, and this I confirmed with the waitress.
As I was in a veggie mood I decided to try the sweet and sour eggplant but misordered. I didn't realize it was a veggie version of sweet and sour pork and the eggplant was deep fried. It tasted OK but I thought it would be stir fried, next time I'll stick with the stir fried garlic eggplant.
FYI they take cash, debit, or VISA. We had no cash and were worried they were cash only.
Fried noodles. Yes, just yes.
I sit and watch the noodle man pull twist and stretch until the noodles take shape from what was a blob of dough. When my piping hot plate finally arrived covered in noodles and vegetables my mouth started to water. With every bite the noodles were deliciously thick and chewy with the flavours soaked into them.
It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall spot. Not glamorous but the noodles are tasty and the service is quick. For a first timer order the fried noodles then try the different soups. Go in the off hours so as not to feel rushed the place isn't very big.
Cheap and good. Nothing extra spent on decorative knick knacks as it should be. The fried cutting noodles with chicken I love because the thickness and the portions as always are generous. Having them hand made on the spot while watching is fun plus my dinner is fresh. Got what I wanted without the fluff. The staff is all business and that's ok their focus is on what they serve which is how it should be.
This place is way better than peaceful restaurant. Servers are friendly and food is really good!
Flying noodles. Seeing my food twisted pulled and tossed is more like fetish night than dinner out but hey I entertain easy. Stopping in for the spectacle is one thing but the noodles have to taste good, and they were. I hear it's good to know where your food comes from well I saw it flying through the air and ch oped. Is that close enough?
Mmmm dumplings. I enjoyed my soup and dumplings. It's all about the dumplings. I also ordered the fried noodles with chicken and it was delicious. There are vegetable options for both but it's just not the same without meat.
Lots of choices. I thought I wanted noodles but didn't think I would need to pump the meter while reading the menu it's crazy. The list of items is the length of my arm. I settled on lamb soup with dragging noodles and it came in a large bowl so the portion is big enough for most. Good meal and the price was reasonable but if it's close to dinner time expect a wait or a mad dash for a table. Popular place + small space = crowd and loud but that's fine with me.
Busy. A line keeps me walking past most times but a busy restaurant means good things. The wait wasn't too long the waitress got me shoe horned into a table and took my order right away. I'm not sure what the difference between the noddles is other than the thickness but I don't like them too thick so I ordered the dragging noddles with lamb and vegetables soup. These are kind of the same as what's used in udon I think. Everything tasted fresh though since its handmade there that's to be expected. Next time it would be nice to get a seat that allows me to watch the guys work.
Cutting noddles. Chinese noodles don't always come in a package saying ichiban. The cutting noodles with veges and tofu soup satisfied the inner vegetarian in me and also the non-greasy dinner kept my heart happy. The noodles were thick and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. Eating noodle soup with chopsticks is impossible but they provided me with a fork.
Tasty lunch. Had a late lunch and ordered the dragging noddles with pork and vegetables. It came out quick so the echo in my stomach didn't disturb the rest of the customers. The soup was fantastic but I added a little extra chili to give it a little extra zing.
My million dollar tip is to come here when it's not lunch or dinner since it's crowded during peak hours and the waitress isn't running around.
Sweet and sour pork is excellent. Had the sweet and sour pork and wasn't disappointed the taste took me back. There wasn't much fat or breading on the pieces which would have ruined my meal and the sauce was zesty while not over taking the sweet with too much spice. The selection of non-noodle dishes is limited but what they have is good.
Soup. Came for the handmade noodles. I've been wanting to try more Chinese cuisine instead of the average north american suburban fare. I got the beef noodle soup and wasn't disappointed. Seeing the cooks in the back stretch and pull the noodles was kinda fun and stopped me from staring at my phone like a zombie. Service was good, the price was didn't dent my wallet and there was entertainment to boot.
Beef tendon soup. Good place for noodles and soup. Went with beef tendon and vegetables because the flavourful broth. The noodles were were springy and the vegetables tasted fresh with the bok choy and carrots still a bit crispy. Be ready for crowds and noise but for a loner (i.e. me...) it's a pleasant distraction. To avoid the a lineup or the need to get your elbows up try off peak hours and don't take too long reading the menu the window of opportunity to order is small.
Rainy day soup. A block away from the skytrian so it's proximity was part of my decision. I should have came earlier it was busy busy but when it's raining I need comfort food so I ordered vegetable and noodle soup and it was delicious. That sounds basic but it was a hard choice since there must be fifty different types of noodle dishes to choose from.
Nice variety of noodles. Came for the handmade noodles and wasn't dissapointed, got the cutting noodles with BBQ Pork and Veggies plus a side order of pork & chives dumplings.
Service was good, will come back again to try something else.
If Italians ate spaghetti with chopsticks. Sha Lin Noodle House is popular with people who work at my hospital. I've been meaning to learn more about Chinese cuisine than the standard American suburban fare (chow mein, egg foo yung, sweet-and-sour pork, etc.) that I grew up with. So in the middle of a 12-hour shift when I had only brought enough food from home to make one meal, I popped into Sha Lin on my second meal break to see what the noodle fuss was all about.
I suppose that if I was really into noodles, it would be cool to watch the guys kneading, stretching, cutting and otherwise manipulating the wads of wheat dough that form the noodles. They put it all on show through viewing windows behind the cash register and along the sidewalk on Broadway. I like watching pizza makers shape their crusts, after all. But I wasn't there to study, just for a quick bite.
When in doubt, order the daily special, which was Zha Jiang Mien, pork with black bean sauce. It was over "dragging noodles," one of four types of noodles Sha Lin has. The awkward word "dragging" probably sounds better in Mandarin. Keeping with the Italian analogy, the noodles were kinda like al dente bigoli pasta, a thick ropy Italian noodle. Sha Lin's had a nice bit of chewy texture to them. The pork sauce ladled on top was blander than I expected, tasting more beefy than porky, slightly salty but without any identifiable spice note. I got a filling portion for $7.78 (including tax.) But as I was eating it with chopsticks -- awkward! -- it made me glad that Italians give you a fork when you tuck into a plate of spaghetti.
Good noodles. Loved the noodles and the dumplings. the service was so-so, but prices are cheap and cheerful. Would go back for a casual lunch or dinner
Their first plate on their menu-house special noodles-are always good. if you like chinese food, youll enjoy this place
Green onion cake very good!. Their noodle dishes are superb; but green onion cake ($2.49 for two) also really good!!
Decent Asian fare, although the venue is rather Spartan. The hand-made noodles are fun for the kids. Unfortunately, these rather tasty quick treats can be inconsistent.
When I opened the menu, I was immediately overwhelmed by the choices. They had so many different kinds of noodles and I didn’t know the difference between them. Their selection of noodles included dragging, cutting, pushing, and round. Overall, the food was pretty decent and it was more like a homestyle restaurant so don’t expect anything outstanding. The service and ambience were on par with other Chinese restaurants too. However, I do recommend going here if you want decent noodles with big portions for a good price.
Upon walking into the restaurant you can see the chefs hand pulling the noodles and wrapping the dumplings. I think having an open kitchen so that the diners can see the craft of noodle and dumpling making is such a wonderful idea because it allows for them to showcase what they do best. I rarely get overwhelmed by menus, but I was definatly overwhelmed when I opened the one here. There was just so many types of appetizers and entrees and specials and preparations and noodles to choose from! Cutting, dragging, pulling, round, stewed, and pancake noodles oh my! I didn’t even know there were this many types! Grayson and
Shaolin Noodle House is named after the Shaolin Temple in Northern China where manager, Kevin Zheng, immigrated from. Shaolin is known for its kung fu and handcrafted noodles, both requiring hours of training, patience and agility to master the crafts. Kevin Zheng & I sharing some special health teas! As an apprenticing chef, Kevin studied Northern China's distinct flavours and soon began managing 200 chefs when he became head chef. His passion for cooking authentic dishes from home compelled him to open Shaolin Noodle House in Vancouver over 17 years ago. Shaolin Noodle House welcomes guests with festive red lanterns Conveniently located on West Broadway, Shaolin is close to public transit with access to free parking at the rear of the restaurant. We took the Canada Line Skytrain and got off the Broadway-City Hall station. The restaurant's decorative white awning and festive red lanterns were easily spotted along a row of retail stores. Shaolin's patrons enjoying authentic N. Chinese
The restaurant is quite big and clean. We really love their noodles. There are many choices on the noodles.
The textures are really great. Everyone can see ShaoLin has put a lot of effort on making the noodles.
Must try if you love noodles:)
The 鱼香茄子(Eggplant with meat) was not as good as Corner 23's (this is one of my favourite Asian eats!!), but it was pretty good. The sauce was slightly tangy which was interesting. The portion was really big and the food was super hot (definitely a +!)
The gang at work decided to do a group lunch at Shaolin Noodle House on West Broadway. I remember visiting this restaurant once many years ago, when it was located a block west. I only had a vague memory of the food (and it wasn’t particularly positive) which is probably why I never came back. At that time, the idea that chinese noodles were made by hand in-store was novel in Vancouver, but not so much today (there are at least half a dozen or more such restaurants around town these days. We had reservations, and arrived just before noon, and were seated promptly. After perusing the menu, I settled on the Zhajiang Pork with Cucumber on Cutting Noodles So this is minced pork, stir fried with garlic, scallions, and a mixture of savory and sweet bean pastes (yellow bean paste, broad bean paste, hoisin sauce, soy), served with matchstick sliced raw cucumber, over cut noodles. The cut noodles are made from wheat flour (sometimes mixed with rice flour), water, salt, kneaded into a log, the
Sha Lin specializes in hand pulled noodles, they're back, with a bigger location too! We went right after their lunch rush but they were still quite busy. It's about triple the size of their previous location. They even changed their teapots!
Seriously one of the best noodle dishes that I’ve had! The hand-cut noodles add character with the variable length and thickness ensuring that each strip of noodle was unique.

I had lunch with my folks recently at Shaolin Noodle House on Broadway, at their new location located between Ash and Heather. What I love about Chinese cuisine (Asian cuisine, really) is how diverse it is. You have Canton style cooking, Shanghai style, Taiwanese (hello beef noodles!) and so many other nuances – it’s simply remarkable. I feel like I try something new every time. We arrived and it was fairly busy, but I’m assuming it is always like this. This place is pretty popular. We sat down and were served tea right away. Our server was really nice and spoke English. My mom ordered #63 – Seafood & Vegetables in Soup ($8.55). This bowl was big and definitely full of veggies and assorted seafood like shrimp and fish balls. She also had thick noodles in it. These noodles called “Pushing” noodles. For a bit, I was a little confused as to what meant what – but thankfully a friend filled me in. Cutting Noodles are long and flat, similar to flat rice noodles, Dragging Noodles are round, c
It was the day that we re-visited the somewhat newly renovated Sha-Lin Noodle House. Although the feel was still there, the wall paint did seem cleaner. We were both starving by the time we got our table so decision was made quickly. Flavoured Dried Bean Curd ($5.95) - 5/6 We asked to have the minced garlic to be put on the side so that it's not overly garlicky. This was a bit salty even with the dark vinegar. On the other hand, it was a good portion consider that it's an appy. House Special Fried Cut Noodle with Lamb ($8.95) - 5.5/6 This was one of our favourite and must order whenever we visit. The house special sauce made it unforgettable (though towards the salty side). The cut noodles were at a good chewy balance and was full of flavour from the house special sauce. We really enjoyed this~ Round Noodle Soup with Lamb ($8.95) - 4.5/6 This was something we've never tried before. The broth has a bit of Chinese herb taste - probably to take away any unnecessary lamby taste. The round
Reopened and better than ever.
I started going to Sha Lin Noodles House after I saw it on an episode of "$40 a day" by Rachael Ray. I thought if Rachael Ray went there it should be amazing. What I really enjoy about Sha Lin Noodles for their food since it tastes very clean unlike Pho p

When I find something I like, I stick with it. I watch movies over and over, read the same books and order the same things at restaurants. I know that I should be more adventurous, but when you really love a dish, what if the new item does not live up to
nad nad first brought me to shao lin last winter. the place was empty then. i could not remember how the service was because it was a long time ago but when i came back early this year with arya, the people service us had an attitude to spare. there are p
