This is a small, casual restaurant in Yaletown, near the skytrain station, serving up a good variety of Mexican fare. I stopped by the place this Monday where I got a Quesadilla with Al Pastor and their large-sized (13") Burrito with Carnitas. The burrito was pretty good; the quesadilla was great. While I didn't think the portions were nearly as large as some other reviewers found them to be, they are quite generous with their ingredients (both the burrito and quesadilla are packed full of meat) and their prices are fairly low, making it a pretty good bargain. The food came quite quickly and the staff, while not the most attentive, were very friendly. All in all, I was quite impressed with this restaurant; it is definitely a great place in Vancouver for some tasty and affordable Mexican food.

The burrito was filled with pulled pork, beans, and cheese, and was serve with sides of sour cream and avocado sauce (which I was unfortunately unable to sample as I'm allergic to avocadoes). The pulled pork was quite tender and juicy; it was completely savoury however, and I personally would have preferred some sweetness. They were pretty generous with the meat: the pork probably made up over 50% of the filling. While I couldn't really detect much of the cheese, the beans were creamy and flavourful. It was quite wet: a large amount of liquid/broth came out of the burrito when I cut it open, and it would probably have been quite messy to eat on the go. Portion-wise, I have to admit that I was initially a bit disappointed by the size: after reading some of the reviews from other patrons I was expecting something massive. Instead, the burrito I received was just of modest size, and not as big as the ones that I've gotten from Vallarta's or Bandidas. However, at just $10.50, I really can't complain.
Quesadilla (Al Pastor, $11.00):

The quesadilla came filled with pulled pork, pineapple, and cheese, and was again served with a side of avocado sauce. I really enjoyed this. The tortilla itself was hot, fresh, and had a great crispiness when it first came out (it did soften as it cooled, but was still delicious). There was a generous amount of pulled pork, which was tender, juicy and had a nice sweetness. The cheese, which I could actually taste here, provided a great gooiness.
Casual restaurant serving simple, fresh & authentic Mexican food along with a decent set of native/domestic spirits. Had lunch here with a friend the day before & thoroughly enjoyed my experience! The food here was comparable to what I had in Cabo (real deal). We had: steak plate, beef enchiladas, a side order of chips & salsa plus de leche for dessert. Service was commendable for sure. Would recommend to anyone looking for a "non-greasy" real Mexican dine-out experience.
I had the vegetarian enchiladas here and to be honest it's alright. I was just taking a break from playing and walking the dog across the street. It's not a big place but it's laid back. Parking is limited. But if you park on the marina side there's free parking. I would come back again to try other items. Service is friendly.
Despite the mixed reviews I actually enjoyed the nachos here. The servers were relatively friendly and refilled our water without being asked. The price is reasonable for a restaurant in Yaletown- overall, it was a decent dining experience for me.

Delicious cocktails, Great atmosphere!. Tried this place for the first time this weekend. The servers were very helpful and energetic. It was nice to see them have so much pride in their place of work!
The sangria and guava cocktail were very refreshing -- lots of strawberry flavor.
The mole and veggie tacos were simple -- nothing amazing but authentic and light (not greasy at all!). Will definitely be going back.

Great Night!. We tried Salsa & Agave tonight for my girlfriends birthday. We weren't sure what to expect since in my opinion there is no such thing as good Mexican food in Calgary and I have no previous experiences with Mexican in Van. I would also like to mention that I have had traditional Mexican food in Mexico, at home made by Mexicans, in California, and throughout North America; So my opinions come from a variety of experiences. This was a great night at a tiny restaurant with great service in a great atmosphere and great Mexican food. The food and the drinks were all well made, tasty and fairly priced (if anything the prices were lower than they should have been by comparison to other places in van). We had a great waitress who was super friendly and attentive and brought us some Tres Leches cake for my girlfriends bday (the cake was phenomenal BTW). Fair warning: this restaurant is extremely small and you will most likely wait for a bit to be seated. Also if you are accustomed to "tex-mex" style Mexican food (found in most parts of the USA and some parts of Canada) you may not like this. Traditional Mexican food is prepared very differently than tex mex style. All the food around the table got great reviews but if I had to pick a favourite it was the potato (papas) rolled tacos. SOOO yummy. The guacamole was also very delicious (and fresh!) and the Sangria is dangerous (for its alcoholic strength and equal tastiness)! All in all it was a great night and we will definitely be making regular stops when we visit Vancouver.
Wow!. First of all, I read online the special of the day was Azteca Soup & Tostada. So I called to order that and they said they'd be happy to make it for me although it was actually the lunch special!
I got the chicken tostada which was delicious. Fresh & tasty ingredients were very memorable. I will be back to try more of their menu items for sure!!!!
This is my favorite resturant. The food here is soooo good. Not your typical Mexican restaurant. The food is light and healthy and ssoooooo tasty! Their habanero sauce is sooo good (does not taste like Franks Red Hot Sauce, like most habanero sauses do). Try the Mar Y Tierra burrito (steak and shrimp)! Their avocado sauce is also very good. Prices are great, especially the lunch specials. Staff are very friendly. I start drooling any time I think of this place. There is a sit down restaurant, and two doors down there is a take out restaurant. The sit down restaurant is open Mondays (urban spoon shows it as closed Monday - only the take out location is closed Monday, and you can get take out from the sit down place).
One of the top places for Mexican in the city. Everything on the menu is yummy and is a great place to eat in or do take away on a cold day.
Unpretentious, high quality good food. Guac is amazing. Burritos can feed a small family. Salsa is so good, and free chips at the table! Fantastic service (especially the young guy with tattoos) I look forward to returning. :)

Good Service, Fun Food. Well I try to balance a bad review with a good review right away. Salsa Agave deserves some props. Set right at Canada line station in Yaletown it is a nice place to grab dinner. The interior is dim but pleasant with an occasional view of the park or water as vehicles stream by.
In the three visits there, I have been really happy with the staff who are pleasant, usually high energy and often humorous.
The food is great, and as a Vegan the staff have always been good about helping me alter the menu to suit my needs, even going so far as to say that I could call in advance if I wanted to try something normally not vegan to give the kitchen time to work out how to do it.
I had a veggie fajita and unlike my experience at the Vallarta grill, here I was easily given enough shells to use up all the ingredients on my plate.
This was the first restaurant I tried Horchata in, and I am a convert. Milky, spicy sweet it is delicious and decadent and I love to sip it pre and post meal.
The close tables have made for some great pre-meal conversations with other guests (yes I am one of those people).
Anyways feel free to drop in, you won't be disappointed.
Instead of stephos we went to salsa and agave. Skeptical at first walking in and feeling the vibrancy i had a good feeling. The soft tacos were pretty good and the spicy avovado was very nice. It had some kind of a mexican shredded salad with a dressing which was also good. The tampinaquea or something like that was awesome, u build ur own tortilla wrap with some kind of pepper sauce thing, refried beans, and chopped up chicken enchilada in a sauce and mexican rice. Exellent,..... loves it... I went here twice already and I must say I absolutly love the food.It definatly is authentic mexican food at its finest.I have had tacos all over the city and these ones are far better over any.Espesially the .. el pastor. Nice Intimate Neighborhood Restaurant. We noticed this place by the crowd sitting outside walking back from Urban Fare and decided it would be our destination for dinner this evening. We were not disappointed by our choice. The friendly service, intimate atmosphere, and delicious Mexican food made for a very enjoyable and quick meal.
I had the chicken enchiladas with the red sauce, rice, and refried beans. The meal was plated attractively and tasted wonderful. I'm not generally a huge fan of refried beans but these were really tasty. (I have a feeling this was due to bacon grease used to refry the beans, and what doesn't taste good when cooked with bacon grease!) All in all, and excellent value and worth adding to our list of neighborhood favorites.

I come from a Latin American country and I happily say that Salsa & Agave serves true Mexican food. The prices were right and the food fantastic. Although, it's a small place to eat you are going too feel a little bit packed.

Let's salsa. Sunny Saturday, midday, we headed to Salsa and Agave Mexican Grill. The little place was packed, and many of the people sitting at the tables were speaking Spanish with the servers and among themselves. Good sign. The menu was packed with options. My friends highly recommended the sopas - which are not soup - but small flat and thick tortilla-like platforms stacked with toppings and cheese - hard to eat but tasty. Another friend ordered a borrito, which was huge. She almost managed to eat all of it, saying it was the best one she's ever had. The little slice left over was wrapped up to take home. I can't resist a soft corn taco and ordered two - one chicken and one chorizo. Both were fabulous - spicy, and laced with the taste of cilantro and lime. We waddled away happy, but with no room for dessert. Service was friendly and the meals came to the table quickly. I will be going back. Open til 8pm.

On my lunch break I decided to stop by and get some food to go. I went with the shredded pork torta ($6) because I’ve always wanted to try one. A torta is a Mexican style sub sandwich. The torta came filled with a pile of flavourful shredded pork that was oozing with spicy juices. It was also filled with tomatoes, avocados, lettuce, onions, beans, mayo, and they gave me a small bowl of jalapeños on the side. I love refried beans and I liked how they put them on the sandwich as it made it more filling. The bun was crunchy and slightly warm and held up to the dripping juices from the pork. The pork torta is a solid sandwich and I was left feeling full and satisfied. For $6 you can’t

Located very close to Yaletown Salsa & Agave provide excellent variety of Mexican food in very modern and clean environment It was around 6 30 on thursday when I visited this place but it was already quite full with a lot of hungry people craving some good mexican food it is located on your right when you walk down from the yaletown skytrain station the bright neon green sign is pretty hard to miss!! I love how they seem to have their unique style Interior is not very big about ~10 tables that can accommodate 2~4 people but the tables can be put together for larger groups however, the space is not quite big enough to hold big gatherings so keep this in mind table is not that big just enough to fit two dishes the menu is coordinated with their logo as well very neat! the menu is quite nicely organized has most of all well known mexican food the price range seemed acceptable to me bit higher than common fast food mexican but not as high some other mexican

Another long overdue post, Liane and I visited Salsa and Agave. Liane was just finishing up meeting with her group from school, so I met her downtown to have a bite. We wanted to go somewhere further down Denman but with the weather being very disagreeable, we decided to stay closeby (Yaletown). We had both heard of this place and thought we’d try it out. There was a bit of a line up when we arrived, but we didn’t wait too long – maybe 25 minutes at most. I have to apologize for my terrible photos, it was quite dark and I didn’t bring my bigger camera with me, so I was stuck with my iPhone camera. We started off with some tortilla chips and salsa. it wasn’t so bad, the chips were nicely salted and the salsa was pureed with less chunky tomato bits. Also, drinks. Salsa and Agave is the real deal: Awesome Mexican food, served in a comfortable environment at a super affordable price. I've been coming here for awhile. Located across the Yaletown Skytrain station, their location is central to everything in downtown. The moment you get seated, you are presented with fresh chips and salsa. The chips are always nice and crispy. The menu has a nice variety of Mexican fare: tacos, sopes, nachos and tostadas. When I come here I usually have the tortas Mexicanas, but today, I was in the mood for something different: The Azteca Soup comes in two sizes: small for $5 and meal size for $8. I ordered the small and that was plenty big. The soup is a symphony of flavours: the chipolte add a nice touch of spice, without making it a hot dish. There's a hint of lime on this tomato-based broth, The avocado cuts into the spice nicely and the tortilla bits add an unexpected crunch. I think the Salsa and Agave is a cool place in Yaletown for Mexican food. The staff is friendly and cheerful and while the whole experience could have been a disaster, it ended up being a great dining experience.
