The food here is a little better than standard pub fair BUT their drinks menu is vast. This is one of my favourite places to go to try craft beer and have a casual bite. This place, Alibi Room and Craft Beer Market come to mind as some of my faves of these types of places.
Standard spot for a good range of beers and food. We stuck with the Monday night special of fried chicken and beers. Fresh chicken and good fries. Service was friendly and attentive.
The salmon burger is truly the best I've had - I order it every time we go. Perfect atmosphere for group events, but for some reason it is always very cold inside the restaurant. Bring your coats!
This place is always busy, so make sure you get someone there to put in your name, it's worth it! They have a great selection of great beers, and all of their food is amazing! I've had brunch, Appies, and meals here and I've enjoyed all of it!
We ordered a Sweet Fennel Pizza ($15). There was nothing wrong with this pie. Thin crust, with ample roasted garlic, basil and enough pork sausage to get a piece every few bites. I liked the tang of the tomato sauce and the taste of asiago cheese was prominent.
My boyfriend's coworker had a birthday party at St. Augustine's bar. The bar is located on Commercial Dr. nearby Commercial Boardway SkyTrain Station. It is a great place to go for the birthday party. People can eat dinner and watch the Game at the same time. We've ordered Nachos, Chicken Wings and The 4 beers flights since lots of people ordered them. It's a great thing to try all the popular food in this bar.
Had a hankering for a burger so I ordered the fried egg burger this thing is HUUUGE!!! there is absolutely no way of chomping in to this without causing a massive explosion, off with some topping and little by little i eventually finished. Waitress was friendly and the service was excellent. i would recommend this place
Ahhh St. Augustine's... You gotta love a bar that semi-parodies a Catholic Church. Well at least I do. I had drinks here with a close friend on his recommendation and I was certainly not disappointed! I knew I was in for a treat considering the place was packed on a MONDAY night. It took us both roughly 20 minutes or so just to get a table. Great beer and drink selection, I particularly liked the Irish Black Stout that I ordered. The poutine I had wasn't overly greasy or smothered in gravy like most poutines. My s/p wings were on par with wings from Cactus. Though I have to admit I felt a bit cheated not getting the meatloaf my friend did (it looked amazing). Service was friendly and fast, the only trouble we really had was flagging down a server given how busy the place was at the time. Food portions were generous, reasonably priced, and good quality. What more can you ask for in a bar really? St. Augustine's its safe to say you have a new convert and he will definitely be back!
Amazing section of craft beer that changes every week. Every time I go there are many new beers I have never heard of. The food is decent, I have only had burgers and pizza, but have never been disappointed. On Sundays the pizzas are $12, which is a complete steal. The nachos look amazing, but I am yet to order them. One of my favorite spots in Vancouver.
Great beer selection and even better nachos. Awesome atmosphere for watching the game. The downside if you are going solo, the bar is not a comfortable one to sit at. And only a few seats.
This place is super close to the Commercial Sky Train and offers loads of craft beer and tasty bar food. We had the yam fries, nachos and some shiitake and tofu lettuce wraps to share around the table, and each of us had a few flights of different ales, stouts, porters etc. Awesome place for the craft beer lovers out there, and super friendly service.
I love beer, so with their amazing local beer menu, this place has been on my hit-up list for awhile. It did not disappoint. Such a great selection of beer. The added bonuses here were: 1) fun, busy atmosphere on a hockey night 2) good food! which I thought would be compromised because of the awesome beer. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, and our server wasn’t very attentive, but it was very busy. I really enjoyed the fried brussels sprouts and tofu mushroom lettuce wraps, I’d go back just for them. My friends liked their beet salad and burger, but I think that I won food-wise.
Super friendly staff. Casual service but very attentive. We enjoyed lunch and we're pleased to see they offer lots of GF options. We sat ourselves and we're offered a high chair for our kiddo. The food was all really good. The menu had a good variety of pub style food. Would definitely go back!
Best Bar in Vancouver. I go to St Augustines quite often and have always really enjoyed myself. Obviously the beer is quite good, but the food is also excellent. The nachos are always a favourite but the mac and cheese croquettes and the pizzas are very good as well.
Great craft beer. If you're into local and/or craft beers, you HAVE to go to this place. Their beer menu is easily three times as long as their food menu. And of course, there's the sampler option so you don't have to settle on just one. Oh, and the food's pretty good too. I love their chicken burger. It's quite busy on the weekends though so be prepared for some noise.
After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant to try this place but since its location fit in with some Sunday afternoon plans I talked the bf into giving it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. I had the chicken chop salad which looked a bit anemic but was actually pretty tasty with roasted tomatoes and deep fried chick peas adding interest. My somewhat fussy bf declared himself to be impressed by the juicy flavourful burger. The food was a bit slow in coming but not absurdly so and the service was friendly and efficient. It's not the most exciting place to brunch but the food is solid and the prices are not out of line with other restaurants of this type. Neither my bf or I regretted giving it a try and will probably be back to try the fried chicken which looked pretty good as it passed out table on its way to some other lucky customer.
Yum!. Been there a few times and the food is pretty good! Breakfast is pretty tasty.
Service seems kind of slow, I always feel like I'm waiting for something.
Great Beer Selection!
Servers know their menu!
Always a Good Time and Beer!
Go here for the good selection of beers but not really a place for food.

Not bad, but not excellent. Good beer, the food is reasonable but not excellent. So and so service...

Wicked drinking spot!. Visited in October, 2012.
Not much for GF food options, but the drinks and atmosphere were a lot of fun. Expect to have a good time when here!
An amazing pub experience. This pub is a quick Skytrain ride from our place in Burnaby and is super close to Commercial Skytrain station. The beer selection is great and the food is really awesome considering it's a pub. The atmosphere is really great; no dirtbags or gangsters. The staff is pretty good, too.
A gem in East Van.
Veggie burger is amazing! Good service, casual and unassuming atmosphere. Extensive craft beer list. Maybe a touch pricey, but worth it. Conveniently located at Commercial Skytrain.
Brilliant. A fantastic selection of west coast beers on tap, including lovely seasonal rotations, one of the best veggie burgers in the city, and cheery, knowledgeable, good service. I love it here; it's up there with Alibi, BierCraft and The Whip.
Fantastic beers. Horrible TV infestation inside and rubbish overpriced food. The beer selection is fantastic though - did I already mention that?
Wow I love this place! Went once and soooo going back. I just got some food no drinks... Got the tomato boccocinni SO YUMMY and got the chick pea fries first time trying them they were good and dense! Very filling! I'm sooo going back I've been craving the food again!
Great beer selection and amazing pub food! Service was great and the ambiance made for a great night out!
Great beers, but a surly server. Hipster apathy is ok out on the sidewalk, but not from the person serving the pints.
Cool commercial drive bar, one of the better ones. Has a bunch of tvs which was awesome for the fights. The menu coild be deemed a bit simple but the chicken wings and sicilian pizza were great. Tomato sauce, prosciuto, and seasonings were awesome on the pizza, and being a beer Lover.... I cant complain with the 40+ beers on tap
Awesome!. Heard about the beer menu. Came in and wasnt disappointed. Actually, it exceeded expectations. The food was a pleasant surprise. Really good rib platter yummm. I remember going here a couple years ago. Glad i gave it another try as in has drastically improved. Best craft brew house in the city!
Awesome Beer menu. Great location, ridiculous selection of beers on tap.
Cask tastings are a great time.
Vibrant pub scene with more refined pub food. Great selection of beer with newly renovated (so it seems) decor. Presentation of food is better than what I normally expect from a pub but price is also slightly higher. Overall great experience and will definitely return. Being located right next to the skytrain station probably does something to its sales of beer...
Great beer selection of microbrews locally and along the west coast. Only alibi room compares on the microbrew scene. If you love bud light etc please go somewhere else. This place is not for you. Good food and specials and great place to watch the Canucks
Great beer, decent food and good service. We had a great night out at St Augustine's last night. We came because we'd heard the beer menu was good and were thoroughly impressed with the range. If you find 40 beers a little bewildering ask your server to pick a good selection.
Contrary to a couple of reviews here we found the staff to be really good. The woman who served us (tall with glasses) was great, really helpful with some of our beer noobs and friendly through-out. I definitely didn't begrudge giving her a decent tip.
The food was nice; my wife had the Pulled Pork sandwich and looked very happy while scoffing it.
We'll be back
One of the best beer menus in the city!
So much beer!. This place has more beers than you can count, and the selection changes regularly. Don't usually try the food but the pizzas are pretty decent, especially the margherita. Favorite night is Monday night: 4.95 cask beer and half price pizza. Haven't seen any live music here recently though, which is a shame. Service could be better.
This restaurant is by far my fav on the Drive! Good food and great beer keep me coming back for more! Every time I go there I have something new and it never disappoints! Oh and for those who were complaining of the washrooms, they are newly renovated and I'm sure smell better and look better than the one in your home!!!
Great Wings. We just started going here for wing Wednesdays. The wings and service are good, friends like the beer selection.
Beer Anyone?. This is one of the true gems on the Drive. Big area, lots of flat screens, and a lot of beer! I think there were twenty taps (some double taps) of micro, specialty, and house brews. The menu was great, not overbearing, with fair prices. Quality of the food was outstanding. I had the Chicken Thai soup and the club sandwich. Portion size was excellent. I wanted to try their deep fried tortilla wrapped cheese cake, but couldn't eat another bite after the soup & sandwich. Owners seem like good guys, and the staff was super friendly and attentive. All-in-all, one of the best on Commercial Street, and anywhere else for that matter.
Everytime I come to Vancouver on business I stop in at St.Augustine's. Things have changed since the last time I was in....for the better!! They still have live music on the weekends and the food and beer menu has also changed for the better. I don't think there are too many places around Vancouver that have twenty taps. I had the poutine and mac and cheese. I'm still full!! This place will always feel like Vancouver too me. Keep up the good work guys
I really enjoyed this chicken wings. They had the right amount of bbq on them and they were tasty. The wings were the right size not too tiny or over-sized.
We were informed Wednesday was the Wings Night. Only $5 per pound? How could we resist such an offer? Justine ordered salt and pepper wings as a lady always does not want to get too messy over too saucy. :) I went for the exotic choice of tamari ginger wings. Wow, they were both really good! I just realized it had been a while since I enjoyed good pub chicken wings. Salt and pepper wings were fried and seasoned perfectly, and they didn’t taste dry at all. Tamari ginger wings won me over with the tons of great flavours: sweet and savory and spicy. And I had sauce all over my fingers but I just didn’t care and kept eating. I kind of wish they could have offered finger bowl or wet tissue, but I probably shouldn’t be complaining because the wings were so delicious.
Being next to a busy SkyTrain station usually means St. Augustine’s is always busy. How does the pub fare hold up through constant busy hours? Read on to find out. Food: Team Mini together ordered a couple of identical pizzas and some beers on tap. Sundays have a $9 special on pizzas (reg. price ~$15) and so we got two smoked sausage pizzas. Topped with caramelized fennel, serrano (!) peppers, onions, provolone cheese, and basil, this was a treat to have with the deal. It’s a pretty spicy dish and writing about it makes my mouth salivate. Be sure to have something to drink to accompany this dish. Speaking of the highlight of any pub, I tried a seasonal Tricycle Radler from Parallel 49 which is the lightest beer on the menu. I was expecting an overly sour experience as I usually have with citrus beers but this was quite refreshing. Being only 3.5% alcohol also helped add to its fizzy taste. I had no problems downing this and was satisfied enough to order another beer. Features: This pla
The menu consisted of the usual pub food, nothing fancy - Until we got our GIGANTIC nachos! I kid you not the plate shook our table when it hit the wood. I would recommend ordering this as a main or to be shared between 4 people if your considering it as an appetizer. Another recommendation is: stop being stingy and pay the extra few bucks for the addition of pulled pork! So worth it.
This seemed like a regular neighbourhood bar, but actually this craft brew house has over 40 (!) beers on tap that are continuously changing. That's pretty amazing. And they have a live beer menu! That's so cool. They offer paddles of four beers, each of 4oz for $8.50.
I've been to this temple of barley and hops in many contexts now: lunch with friends, game night with a group, on a date, and even for a volunteer envelope stuffing event. A live beer menu listing their rotating selection of forty taps is on the website, and on screens in the pub itself.
Among the patron saints of brewers , four are extremely well known: Augustine of Hippo , Luke the Apostle , Nicholas of Myra (also known as Saint Nicholas , or Santa Claus) and the Good King Wenceslas , the latter two also providing a linkage to the winter season of merriment. Augustine of Hippo, now part of Tunisia (born 354 AD, died 430 AD) was known for wild living and significant alcoholic beverage consumption prior to his conversion . His complete turnaround and life of moderation contributed to his becoming a patron saint of brewers. - Beer History So..where can I sign up to be a patron saint of beer? Sounds like a tough job but I can do it, promise. Anyways, here I was with Maurice not wanting to call it a night yet after an early dinner, and St. Augustine's looked like the perfect excuse. The End Cafe or something of the sorts used to occupy this place, but since the opening of St. Augustine's, it's been pretty busy here. Compared to Alibi Room
I had never reviewed The End Cafe for dinner (although I had already had a burger there once, and I had written about it before on my blog). But for last Vancouver Bloggers Meetup , I hadn't had any food all day and was incredibly hungry so I decided it w
