On a warm spring Friday evening, being out of fresh ingredients, I decided to head out to grab some dinner. My dinner companion suggested a sushi place way out in the Alma area of West Broadway, called Greenleaf Sushi. I’d driven past this place many times over the years, but never thought to try it until now. It was a busy little place when we arrived, and scored the last table in the house.

I love this place for oshi pressed sushi! The restaurant is quite small and always have a line up. But worth the wait. My husband and I we usually order their oshi platter that has six different types of oshi and let’s just say, that first bite is always so satisfying. Definitely recommend!

Tasty Japanese food!

The tempura snapper was beautifully battered & fried. Crispy coating with a soft moist flaky snapper.

The OMG roll lives up to its name with big pieces of the roll sliced up & covered in wasabi mayo and spicy mayo. The tempura salmon is deliciously paired with the avocado & crab mix. The outside shell was crispy.

The kani-ume oshi sushi finished off with deep fried capers as a whole had that blow torch flavour. On its own a delicious dish.

My recommendation- the oshi sushi.

This is a cute little restaurant that is just one short bus ride from UBC. Whilst the restaurant is not very big, it feels very welcoming. The food is on the pricey side, I rated it a 4 rather than a 5. They serve both tea and lemon infused water.

I think it's worth occasionally as the pressed Oshi sushi tastes amazing. I ordered the pork Chazu oshi and the salmon rolls. The salmon rolls are 6 tiny pieces of sushi, which are very small and taste very average.

As I thoroughly enjoyed the Oshi, I would definitely recommend trying this place out! :)

Green Leaf Sushi has been on my radar for awhile now, but recently, I started to deliver for Doordash and I was fortunate enough to have a couple of deliveries from them. As I waited for the order, I took in the smell and presentation of the food. I knew that I needed to try the food as soon as I could.

I Have been there for several time. Very small place so maybe need to wait for the table. More cheaper than Miku, with almost the same sushi.

I heard it is a "downsizing miku". I ordered a delivery food, the potion is smaller than Miku (also the price is fare). It is hard to say if i like the food or not, consider of the food was cold at the time when I ate. I would suggest you go there in person, and eat the aburi sushi right away for the best taste.

Was able to stop by and got a seat on a Friday night, v as the place was quite full. Ordered the chasu don, tamanaga roll, and house special roll. The sushi rolls were quite good,b especially the unagi. The chasu don was also fantastic, especially the chasu. Portions are small, just to set your expectation.

Green Leaf Sushi has been on my must visit list for quite some time after seeing countless pics of their aburi oshi sushi. We finally found ourselves in the area after first hitting the UBC Botanical Garden Tree Walk and came for a late lunch. While the restaurant was still fairly busy, we did manage to find a table right away.

Friendly service and great food.

Our most favourite dish at this place is the OMG roll. We often find things that are overrated, but this roll definitely stands out!

My favorite dish is aburi nigiri combo! It was sooo delicious. The salmon oshi sushi was good as well! If you love traditional Japanese food, the sashimi might be a good choice to have a try. The only problem is the room is too crowded and noisy.

I've heard a lot of good things about this place, so when I came here I was expecting to be eating some pretty good sushi, but instead I found myself eating some UNBELIEVABLY GOOD SUSHI!!! I can't believe I didn't come here sooner. Hands down best yam tempura roll in Vancouver. Don't even get me started on the aburi! Mmmmmmm. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and go order yourself some sockeye aburi and a yam tempura roll. You will not be disappointed. Go! Go!

came here during dinner, ordered a couple items and all were made quite good actually, but my friend said is quite a hit and miss when she came the third time, but my first time experience so far it's good i must say, the aburi sushi were well made, and chashu where tender and juicy as well. the seasoning of each roll and dish were atleast good. price wise it's definitely higher than the regular california sushi and sushi town, but i must say it's worth the price.

The most popular dish is the Aburi Sushi Platter which comes with 6 pieces of each of the aburi oshi sushi, and 8 pieces of their aburi roll. (38 pieces in total) The wait is long and tables are crammed but the aburi dishes sing! If blowtorch sushi is up your alley then you'll love this place. We suggest looking at the menu while waiting for a table and order when seated. The aburi sushi & rolls could take a while since most people come here for that.

First time to Green Leaf. Beautifully presented sushi. Got a platter and shared two other rolls. Feeling very full. Tuna was really soft and delicate. Oshi rolls are blowtorched, which is unique!

If you plan on coming here, make sure to make reservations, or else you'll be stuck waiting. I've been here a couple of times and finally got to try the Aburi Sushi Platter. It comes with about 38 piece of 6 different kinds of aburi. I liked the scallop and the saba the best. All of the rolls had good flavour. Except I didn't like the ebi one as much because it reminded me of pizza because of the olive and cheese. There was a large amount of oil on the wooden plank they used for the sushi. I understand it is used so it doesn't stick, but there seemed like just a lot and only on one side. For this platter, it did say it takes 30 minutes to prepare. However, we only waited about 15 minutes so it wasn't bad at all. At times it did seen difficult to flag down a server. But they did come around to fill our tea. I think this place is a good alternative to the more expensive restaurants with aburi.

I finally had the chance to visit Green Leaf sushi last night with my friend Joy. The restaurant is located on West 4th, in a small and humble shop. Heading in, all the staff in unison greeted us.

As we were seated, we were given the menu. However, we felt very rushed to order because before the seat was even warm, the servers would come every 2 minutes to ask if we were ready.

We shared the Green Leaf Platter, and a House Roll. The house roll had salmon, tobiko, shrimp tempura, and cucumbers, and although it is smaller than a usual house roll, the ingredients really go well together. The Green Leaf Platter is a good combo to try a variety of their specialties- saba tempura, sashimi, and a set of daily oshi sushi. The saba tempura was delicious- it was crispy and flavourful with the teriyaki sauce. The salmon and tuna were really fresh, we were surprised of the great quality of tuna. Lastly, their specialty.. aburi Oshi sushi. Reminiscent of Miku's signature, Green Leaf's version of oshi sushi can definitely compare. Their daily feature was the salmon oshi sushi, which was absolutely delectable. The jalapeno kick goes really well with the creamy sauce on the pressed sushi! Their food is very delicately made and well presented for sure.

Overall, I loved the food here! It's a more affordable option in comparison to Miku but still a little splurge compared to a typical Japanese sushi place.

After seeing so many beautiful pictures of aburi sushi on Instagram, I suggested to SP and SK to check out Green Leaf Sushi. I’ve been hearing there are long line ups so I came a little earlier to grab a seat. Luckily, it still wasn’t very busy on a Sunday for some reason. Ambiance is simple and nothing special.

Definitely a different experience compared to traditional sushi restaurants. Although quite expensive, the restaurant is cheaper than other places that serve aburi style Oshi sushi, such as Miku or Miami. I think my favourite dishes here were their aburi nigiri. Instead of plain, generic nigiri, they spice theirs up by adding a nice sear to the outside creating a unique blend of cooked and raw fish. I probably would not line up for this place, but we came close to closing so there was no wait.

Green Leaf Sushi gets a lot of love for their aburi platter so I spent my saturday to see what all the craze was all about! I tried the salmon oshi, same saba oshi, and dragon roll. The prices there are a little more on the higher side but the taste was definitely worth it for me! Although I do wish the portions were A LOT bigger considering the price I'm paying. The sushi was tinier than my usuals and they were breaking apart! Aside from all that though, the aburi was the best I've ever had. 👌

After seeing so many beautiful shots of Green Leaf Sushi’s oshisushi, I finally had the chance to go! I have been bugging Q about going to Green Leaf Sushi for some time since it’s close to our favourite 720 Sweets. Ronnie is the man behind Green Leaf. The Japanese kitchen approach their aburi the Canadian way.

Green Leaf Sushi in Kitsilano has been generating quite a buzz lately for their Aburi Sushi Platter. They have their version of Miku’s Salmon Oshi Sushi, which is driving people crazy on instagram.

For the family, we shared the Aburi Sushi Platter that comes with 6 pieces of each aburi and the roll that has 8. 6 different varieties with 38 pieces in total. it takes about 30 minutes to prepare, so make sure you order this right away when you sit down. All the rolls were really good. Fresh ingredients and lots of favour. It’s a great item to share with the table, but it is about $60 something dollars.

Green Leaf Sushi in Kitsilano has been generating quite a buzz lately for their Aburi Sushi Platter. They have their version of Miku’s Salmon Oshi Sushi, which is driving people crazy on instagram. We came here for dinner with the family and waited about an hour and a bit for their large table that fits 8 people. We tried making a reservation in the morning, but they need at least 24 hours notice, so we went a bit early to put our name down since we knew it would be a wait. Even for groups for 4 or 5, they also seem to wait a while.

Went to this sushi restaurant on a Sunday night very busy, 30 min waiting time for a table, ordered the aburi sushi combo another 30 min wait for that item, also ordered sumo mono salad, tuna salmon sashimi, Alaska roll and negitoro roll, all were good and the aburi sushi combo was very good, this is the item that the restaurant is famous for, must order, I will recommend this place but make reservations first.

I invited my friend to this "make your own herb garden" event on UBC Campus, but it was postponed for the second time! So frustrating... (and now they've changed it to friday- the day that house of cards comes out  - you can try to pry my laptop from cold fingers) Anyway, she suggested we go eat instead. And neither of us has tried green leaf! SO here we go.

Spacing is a little tight in this restaurant but it wouldn't be a large bother. The sushi here was quite good, but a little oily... sushi shouldn't really be oily. For their aburi sampler was ambitious with its flavours. There was a cream cheese olive type thing? Not really sure what it was but I was too afraid to give it a try.

A couple of months back I was perusing instagram when I came across a post by @raymondssushiadventures declaring his love for the aburi sushi at Green Leaf Sushi. I had just visited the restaurant a couple of months prior, and hadn’t noticed that they had aburi on the menu, but after a quick back and forth conversation with Raymond I learned that the aburi menu had only very recently become available. Instantly a revisit to Green Leaf Sushi was moved to top of my list of things to do. Unfortunately, as often happens in life, I forgot about Green Leaf, and it wasn’t until Cincinatti was visiting from out of town and suggested a meet up there that I remembered about wanting to do the revisit. Once the meeting was organized, I literally began counting down the days until all that sweet, sweet aburi sushi would make its way into my mouth.

We love the place. We have been going to Green Leaf for a while now. We love the harumaki, their OMG role, an aburi sampler is great. Most importantly, we like the service and the ambiance. It is a homey place with great food and very nice people. We recommended it to all our friends and family.

Decent sushi place in Kitslano. Their menu is very similar to Victoria Sushi in new west, which is one of my favorite sushi places. They do aburi sushi here if that's something you like. Lots of menu selection and everything looks just great. The aburi sampler is one of the most popular items, and it comes with about 8 pieces of different aburi sushi. Very tasty and beautifully presented. Although when I went, their rice tasted kinda stale, otherwise it would be perfect. If you like the oishi sushi at Miku/Minami, you can try them out here as well, they do their own version at Green Leaf.

For my second experience at Green Leaf Sushi, I tried very hard to leave the Aburi Restaurants comparisons at home. The experience proved to be a much better one as a result. Naturally, to fulfill an ever-constant craving for flame-seared sushi, we had to tack on the salmon oshi sushi and some aburi saba nigiri to our order. Sadly, when ordering such items, parallels cannot help but exist. The Atlantic salmon in the salmon oshi does make a difference and the curing process of the saba can be improved for balance and flavour. However, it is when you opt for the non-Aburi items that Green Leaf shines most brightly. With some interesting salad options and a smoky, savoury kabocha korokke that easily tops Guu with Garlic, the Green Leaf's original menu items create an extremely satisfying (and unique) sushi-going experience that is definitely worth coming back for. And although I did not try it personally, the hotate oshi sushi I ordered to go was received extremely well by a friend of mine ("best scallop sushi I've had yet"). I can't wait till my next jaunt over to Kits area for more Green Leaf goodness.

The Aburi sushi here is an inexpensive alternative to Miku restaurants but the quality is just so-so. The hotae aburi sushi was just divine, the generous amount of scallop and special cream sauce on top adds so much intense melt in your mouth flavour. The salmon aburi I don't recommend as the salmon was too dry and lacking flavour. The OMG roll was ginormous, the roll is deep fried on the outside. It's stuffed with fake crab meat, mayo, salmon. I had one piece and I was done! I also ordered the beef tenderloin, it came on a bed of onion which I didn't care for and a generous slathering of mayo and scallions. The beef was thinly sliced and just melts in your mouth. Amazing!

The OMG Roll was a real filler. It came with eight enormous pieces consisting of avocado, crab meat, cucumber, salmon tempura, prawn tempura, a deep-fried exterior, and tobiko along with unagi sauce, peanut sauce, and wasabi sauce. I especially enjoyed the slightly crisp exterior and the rich prawn tempura inside. Indeed, the wasabi sauce provided a moderate amount of spiciness to the roll. I never noticed the sprinkles of crab meat on top until

Best Sushi Around!. Green Leaf is by far the best sushi I have come across in Vancouver. Their special rolls are very fresh and tasty.

Chicken Udon -- the best udon I have had! Very flavourful broth, tons of meat and veggies!! Big portion.
OMG Roll - this thing is MASSIVE. So much fish meat. You have to see it to believe it.
Gyoza - tasty and crispy.
Mango Roll - nice combo of mango and avacado. Neatly rolled and very fresh ingredients.

Chef clearly takes pride in his food. Highly recommend trying!

*****ROLLS*****. If you like the rolls, you definitely have to visit this place!

They have many options for special rolls.
Reasonable price, small but clean and neat, service always good.

Their rolls are awesome! I rather go with rolls than sushi.
Terriyaki is also very tasty!

Also, the food decoration is nice!

They remember their guest that is the nicest part of this place :)

High Quality. Large portions and great quality. The prices at first may seem slightly higher than your average takeout sushi restaurant, but the portions for many of their roles are large and the quality just seems to be that much better. The tempura is crispier, perfect amount of rice in the rolls... etc.

Great sushi. My wife and I ate here after reading reviews, and loved it! The service was a little lacking, as any time we needed anything( ie water) we had to ask. Having said that, we received what seemed like a house special roll( Cali roll in lettuce then wrapped in rice paper) on the house. Also green tea was brought as we sat down. All in all a very good!

A standout place in Kits!. My husband and I were talking about how many sushi places there are in Vancouver. To us, no sushi place really stands out. But this afternoon we went to Green Leaf Sushi and got their dynamite/ california roll combo for $8, a great deal. We were impressed by the decor there and they have some old brass telephones on display too. Very fun. The food was the highlight. They gave us free green tea as we waited, and when we left they gave us a roll ON THE HOUSE. This has never happened to us before - what great service! Both rolls were extremely fresh, they made the prawn tempura on the spot so it was hot and they put TWO tempuras in the dynamite roll - also a first for us. We will definitely be back!!! Highly recommend trying this place.

One of aquaintances had been mentioning that Green Leaf was a good Japanese restaurant. After going to Sake Maki on Broadway one night, we walked by it and thought we should come here next time. It’s a small Korean run restaurant. Interesting decor on the right hand side with a lot of antiques. There is a hidden small section for one table for a group. The chef has a memorable hair. It reminds me of those ancient Chinese men who would have their hair very long and braided in the back. The restaurant seems clean but wasn’t new. It doesn’t have that ‘it’s completely renovated’ feel somehow. The server didn’t say anything about the specials. We noticed them on the blackboards after we had ordered. However, on the second time we went there and had a closer look, the menu said that dynamite roll + gyoza combo was $8, while the ‘Today’s Special’ said it was usually $10, and it was on special for $8. Scam? I guess if you weren’t looking carefully, you’d feel you were getting a deal, when you
