We finally made it in here after trying for a year. I think it's a combination of COVID and the fact that it was a sunny warm day. We lucked out and there was no line! We were not disappointed. Lots of customizations can be made for each other. I'm glad I got the thick noodle in the negi-goma ramen. The broth for this is thicker and richer. Gyozas were a nice addition. It's nice they have a non-pork broth base as well with tofu instead of pork for the Veggies out there. I can't wait to go back... when there isn't a line.

Ramen Danbo is an authentic ramen shop with locations in both Kitsilano and downtown. The Kitsilano location was their first location outside of Japan!

There’s no disagreement, Vancouver has some seriously good ramen joints around town (most of which are located in the downtown core). Ramen Danbo is one such ramen joint (they have 1 location downtown and 1 in Kits) and they are frequently busy. Like many of the popular ramen spots, everything is fairly minimalistic inside with the focus on efficiently getting people in and out the door as quickly as possible. Eating ramen really isn’t the kind of thing where you linger too long since your noodles would wind up getting cold. Ramen Danbo has a small menu which focuses on traditional Fukuoka-style Kyushu Hakata tonkotsu ramen. Fukuoka is a northern prefecture located on Japan’s Kyushu Island (the most southerly of Japan’s 4 major islands) and where tonkotsu ramen (known as Hakata ramen) originated from.

If you are looking for a satisfying bowl of ramen, look no further. This is superb. Noodles are good, broth is delicious. Can feel the sticky gelatin smucking on your lips after finishing the soup.

Queue for a while : we are about 12-15 in queue and took about 30min, definitely worth the wait.

One of the more authentic and decent ramen joints in Vancouver. I love all the toppings, noodle firmness, and chashu. Too bad the gyozas are frozen store-bought ones! A good ramen joint should have just as good handmade gyozas.

I've been trying to find a place that has a thicker noodle and my friend Shauna suggested that I give Ramen Danbo a go. I've driven by this place a number of times and there's always a line up. My go to is... whenever there is a line up, it must be good. . I ordered the Miso Chasu-men, which has 6 pieces of chasu pork, lots of onions, and miso soup. I chose normal everything and a little bit of spicy just to clear up my nasal passages. I had Hokkaido Ramen Santouka a couple nights before and I can say I prefer the ramen at Danbo in comparison. The noodles are a lot better thick compared to the ones at Santouka. The pork on the other hand was sliced really thin compared to Santouka. I ordered an extra soft boil egg and it was done to perfection.

Came here for a late lunch. There was still a few folks waiting outside the restaurant. We waited about 30 mins before we were seated. The eating area inside is quite small, hence the wait. The staff was friendly and prompt. I tried the classic ramen. You have choices of the type of noodles, firmness of the noodles, amount of lard and they level of spiciness. Overall, the ramen was quite flavorful, and the soup was tasty.

Ben and I attended the first night of the Honda Celebration of Light on a Saturday. We drove to downtown early to secure a parking spot before some road closures. We had dinner at Ramen Danbo in Kitsilano before the event. The restaurant is small and seating is tight. Ben decided to go for the summer special chilled ramen.

Danbo's ramen is highly customizable, from how chewy you want your noodles (I highly recommend soft because standard is very al-dente) to how heavy you want your broth. I got the spicy ramen w standard noodles, then did a $1 Kaedama which means an extra order of noodles, this time, soft and it was SO GOOD! The broth was flavorful but also quite salty. So keep that water handy. I personally felt like the broth could be slightly sweeter tbh.

Ramen Danbo has become one of AngryRussian and my favorite places to eat on our movie date nights (although we’ve really only been here twice).  The Vancouver location is within walking distance from 5th Avenue Cinemas, and is perfect for a quick and delicious meal.  We can usually get in and get out of there within 40 minutes.

Small little restaurant on W. 4th & Burrard, there always seems to be a bit of a wait to get in so it's popular for the neighborhood.

With 4 people ahead of us, 15 min wait was not bad at all! They can probably fit a total of 20 people at a time. Value: 12$ seemed steep for the portion and two pieces of meat. Aside from the that, they were very polite, attentive, and we liked the simplicity and description within the menu. Flavor was okay, I'd come back but wasn't blown away!

Came here on a weekday night and it was busy. There were people waiting outside. We wrote our name on the list and waited maybe 20-30 minutes. The restaurant isn't very big inside.

I ordered the classic ramen and added an egg. I like how customisable their ramen is. You can choose the noodle thickness, firmness, thickness of broth, amount of lard, and amount of spicy sauce. I chose thick noodles, standard firmness, light broth, no lard, and a little spicy sauce. I didn't know what their standard firmness was, but I think next time I would choose soft. The spicy sauce I tried without mixing it in first to see how spicy it was. It was quite spicy but when mixed with everything, it kind if just got lost. So next time I would order more of it.

Overall, their ramen is simple, but done well. Their broth is very good. Very flavourful and not too salty. However, for me, the ramen wasn't filling enough. I would like to have more veggies or toppings on it. But now I know for next time to add more to my bowl of ramen. I'd consider coming back as the ramen was good and service was quick and attentive.

Finally had a chance to tried Danbo. Overall it's quality ramen but some drawbacks. You have to purchase sides separately like the egg, nori, mushrooms etc., while most other ramen shops would include them as part of the package. Ordered the egg and the yolk is not tender and runny as it should be - over cooked. The chasiu is also not as tender as it could be. Their noodles were great. Soup broth is also tasty.

We decided to try Ramen Danbo at Kitsilano after reading the reviews. If you like Ramen, this is a must-go ramen place. It is obviously located at Kitsilano (on west 4th Avenue and Burrard Street).

You can customize your ramen. The soft boiled egg is perfection! 😋😋

Danbo is a Japanese franchise serving Fukuoka style tonkotsu ramen . The Kitsilano location is their first restaurant outside of Japan! The nice thing is that customers have the ability to customize a bowl of ramen to fit their taste buds. We have control over the noodle thickness, noodle firmness, thickness of broth, amount of lard and amount of spicy sauce.  The service is fast but because of its popularity and small space the line ups can be long.

Not bad. The strongest part about Danbo's Fukuoka-style ramen (like Menya and Ramen Butcher) would be its rich and creamy soup base. Unlike the other Vancouver locations that offer this type of ramen, one is not necessarily stuck with its thin noodles, and can opt for a thicker variant, in addition to a number of other customizations (ie. lard level and noodle firmness). But personally, I'm still not a fan of the noodles, and prefer the thicker, more textured, and less fishy ones (ie. Hida Takayama). The chashu is not bad, but not memorable either. The portion is a bit smaller than average I would say, although not as appalling as Jinya and Santouka. Lastly, the ramen is very slim on ingredients and comes with pretty much nothing, but I suppose it reflects the price.

Pretty solid Tonkotsu ramen and Shio ramen with the option to customize: broth richness, lard quantity, noodle thickness, noodle firmness, spice level, meat fatness, etc.. This location had pretty fast service during lunch and they also offer a lunch combo(+$3) where you get ramen, gyoza, and 1 topping of your choice. The broth is consistent and very porky. They also let you have their house made spice on the side so you can just add as much as you need. On the table is also a small jar of garlic (sauce?) that I also add to my bowl. 😋

I've only been here for lunch and there's always a line up (partly because the place is so small). You get your food pretty quickly and the portion is a bit on the smaller side but I really enjoyed their broth (esp the Classic and spicy ones). It's a bit expensive (but so is everything else in that neighbourhood) for such a small portion. They also offer stamp cards.

We came here for a quick bite ordering a Yakibuta chashu pork ramen with thick noodles. The portion of the bowl of noodles was small. If someone eats a lot, he/she needs to order extra noodles. The noodle base tasted great and the texture of the noodles was standard (not too soft and not too hard). The bowl had six slices of chashu in total. The chashu was very soft and tender that the meat melted right away once I put it in my mouth. Eating ramen here was a great experience.

The customer service was great. A server spilled some soup on my boyfriend's pants by accident, so we got this meal for free. Although we insisted to pay, the servers did not accept the money and they also gave us coupons, so they hoped that we would come back and visit them. They were very generous!

You basically have to build your own bowl of ramen. The ramen just comes with the noodles and the meat itself, without any sides, like corn or eggs. The bowl of noodle costs less than most other Ramen joints, but that is because you have to pay for your own sides. The soup isn't bad, but just as expected and so were the noodles. I do not normally get extra noodles, but the portion was quite small here, so I had to order an extra bundle of noodle. I would come probably go to another ramen shop in downtown since it's not too far away.

Ramen Danbo is one of the best ramen shops in Vancouver, and hands down the best ramen shop outside of downtown. Although they have a simple menu, their execution is near perfect and every bowl of ramen is delectably delicious. Even when opting to have no lard, their flavourful broth makes up for it. It's also low on sodium, so you don't have to feel guilty after eating a bowl of ramen which is usually the case in other places. On the other hand, their gyoza is only mediocre and is often served with many imperfections, which cause the gyoza to fall apart when you attempt to consume it. That being said, the reasonable wait times and location in tandem with the delicious ramen, makes Danbo my go to ramen shop.

For myself, I got the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen and added the soft-boiled egg as my add-on. This is their signature Tonkotsu pork broth and is recommended for first-timers. I thought the broth was quite good and with the choice of standard for spicy, I thought it actually had quite a bit of heat. For noodles, I chose firm classic thin noodles, so I quite enjoyed the nice chew you got. The cha-shu was a bit disappointing though as the fatty part didn't melt in your mouth and parts of the meat was a bit chewy. The portion of the noodles are also quite small! I feel like the price is around the same as other ramen shops, so I find it quite expensive for the amount of noodles you get. You can however, add $1 for half a size or $2 for the full size of extra noodles. Just be sure to leave enough soup!

Excellent place.  I love their rich running broth and al-dente ramen noodles.  Definitely my top two ramen options in Vancouver.  I've been to Danbo three times and it has been consistent quality every time.  The only complaint I have are the pork in the ramen are not tender enough.  Pricing is average compared to other Ramen places but their portion is smaller.  Another unique feather they have is customizing your own Ramen from level of spiciness, thickness of noodle to richness of broth.

Probably my second favourite ramen place after Santouka, and I just discovered this place a few weeks ago too!

Pros:
- Love that you're able to customize everything from the thickness of your noodles to the spiciness level. I love the spicy tare sauce I always ask for extra, and I also love that this doesn't compromise the deliciousness of the tonkotsu soup.
- I love how rich the soup is, but not so rich that you feel heavy afterwards (like Santouka's...)
- I always get an egg and the egg has been perfectly cooked the last few times I've been there
- The gyoza is also very delicious and fresh

Cons:
- The portion sizes are a lot smaller compared to Santouka or any other ramen place I've been to, and for the same price as other places too.
- They don't have takeout boxes, which is something I've never seen before. That's totally fine if you don't usually do takeout, but one lady I saw wanted to use her own container because she still had the majority of her noodles left, and the server wouldn't let her. She had paid for the food so I wasn't sure what the deal was.

Overall I'm still a fan, and I'll definitely go back for more. I love that they opened a second location on Robson (where the old Vanvan used to be), which is closer to my work.

Love how you can customize your bowl of ramen! Of course I got spicy level 15 (max is 20) and I love how the lunch combos are until 5pm. We got the ramen+pop+gyoza option. Bf added more meat which is pretty fatty (he loved) and the soup is very flavorful!!! Must try for ramen lovers ♡ I gave 4/5 because after ramen and 3pc gyoza I was still hungry.. the spicy ramen only gave u 2 pcs of chashu and scallions. I should have added more topping but that woulda been a $20 bowl of ramen.. still good tho!

ate here through recommendation of a friend, i was in ubc, but not much of selection that was very very entertaining, so might as well travel a little bit to west 4th ave and try as many restaurants as possible, and ramrn danbo! was one of the new restaurant that i was curious about. so tried their original tonkotsu and a half boiled egg on the side. was thinking about getting a set llunch menu but was definitely going for a second restaurant after this, so went smaller pirtion.

here comes the ramen, the broth was awesome! really really layered, rich and just the right amount of flavour. pretty amazed that you can customized the ramen, i went for firm noodle and other than that the broth, lard, and spiciness is all standard.

the ramen, was thin, definitely not my favorite type of thickness but it was okay, a little bit more brittle even though it's firm,

and for the charsiu in the bowl i find it a little bit dry and the flavor more to the bland side but the broth simmering the pork definitely helps. the pork is not as tender as i would love them to be.

the half boiled egg is awesome no complaint.

overall i trully love the broth of this place, the rest are average, i find the noodle is just personal preference type in terms of thickness, the pork
will recommend this place for the broth and ramen in general will i come back? hmmm it's quite far away for me but if i do live in the neighboorhood definitely will come back

2nd try for the spicy because my friend recommended it, well i think for short it's not really my preference as the broth becomes numbed to the spicyness instead. i still prefer the regular ones better.

Recently just coming back from Japan, I had gained more knowledge in what different types of ramen(from different regions) should taste like. One of my favourite places I tried in Osaka was a chain store call Ichiran, famous for Hakata ramen and individual booth seating. Similarly, Danbo sells Hakata ramen originating from the same city. Although I did not try Ramen Danbo in Japan, I have to say,  that the ramen here is the closest thing to the Hakata Ramen sold in Japan. It even has the special tare sauce placed in the middle(which many hakata ramen stores do). I got the cha siu Ramen, with extra firm noodles, and everything else standard. The broth was excellent and the noodles were to my liking. However i did not like the meat as much. I felt as if it was not as tender and some parts were hard. Overall I will be coming back for more!

I ordered the classic ramen, extra firm noodles and standard everything else with an egg. I tried the broth before mixing the spicy sauce/paste in and thought it was very creamy and flavourful even without the spice. The extra firm noodles were the perfect choice for me. I'm a bit of a slower eater. By 1/4 of the way through the meal the noodles became the perfect firmness instead of soggy/mushy. The egg was made perfectly. I'm on the fence about the meat. It was a little too fatty and the meat part a little too dry for me to love it, but because it was cut very thinly, it still worked out pretty well. I came here after having a few snack at home. Had I been hungry, I would've been better off ordering the version with extra meat.

Danbo isn't a favourite, but since I live in the area, it'll be a nice soup noodle go to comfort food in the fall. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here though.

Last week I met up with Island Girl and Easy A for drinks at Mahony’s (where else?). While we were sipping on wine and enjoying the sunshine, they mentioned that their supervisor was going to be away from work on Monday, and that whenever that happens they usually take the opportunity to leave the lab for a couple of hours for a long lunch. Since I’ve been working from home for the past couple of months, they asked if I’d like to join. Um, do I ever say no to food? I suggested we hit up Ramen Danbo since Island Girl is a ramen junkie, and Easy A and I have been meaning to try it out for awhile. A Ramen that is just right

At Ramen Danbo?

For an optimal experience at Ramen Danbo, I feel if you are salt adverse go with the lighter options and if your palate prefers a saltier profile then go with the heavier options.

Despite the imperfect visits, albeit at my own doing somewhat, I do think there is a high level of quality at Ramen Danbo. It’s NOT a top 5 ramen, but I would consider it a TOP 10 ramen-ya in the city.

Hey everyone, I am back today with another food post, featuring the new Ramen Danbo on West 4th in Kitsilano. Known for their authentic flavors and with over twenty locations in Japan, Ramen Danbo first opened in 2000. I visited their first Canadian location in Vancouver earlier this month, to read more about the restaurant and what I ate, click....... Ramen Danbo serves up traditional Fukuoka (southern Japan) style ramen, which is much thinner compared to northern style ramen. The tonkotsu broth is prepared using very high heat to extract the most flavors from the pork bones. However, the highlight of this place is definitely the customization options. When you order your ramen, you have the option of choosing how firm you like your noodles, how thick you like the broth, how much lard you want in the broth, and how spicy you want the broth to be (if you are ordering the Blazing Hot Rekka Ramen). The ramen here ranges from $9.45 to $11.95, which puts the place at a higher price range considering that the servings are smaller and the ramen do not include eggs ($1.50 for one soft-boiled egg). Blazing Hot Rekka Ramen with Egg I love anything spicy so of course I opted for the Blazing Hot Rekka Ramen with egg (10x hot, can be customized to your liking). It comes with two slices of cashu-style pork slices, a handful of freshly-chopped scallion (green onion), and a dollop imported Japanese red pepper. The eggs were cooked just right, tender but not completely runny. The chashu slices, though, are noticeably smaller and thinner compared to the ones from other ramen restaurants. The flavor is nice and the texture is tender and fatty. I chose "regular" broth thickness and lard-content and I love how flavorful it is without being too thick or rich. My favorite part, though, is definitely the noodles themselves. I asked for "firm" noodles because I love a more al dente texture and they came out so great: chewy, bouncy, but not tough. The noodles here has the same thickness as

Hey guys happy Saturday! Today I have an exciting ramen review to share with you from Ramen Danbo , Vancouver’s newest Japanese opening in Kitsilano! Does the ramen provide warmth and relaxation or brittle sadness? Read on to find out. Food: Fun fact: Vancouver is Ramen Danbo’s first expansion out of Japan! Team Tastic came here for a late lunch and I got a good taste of the following: Yakibuta Chashu Pork Ramen ($11.95) with Soft-Boiled Egg ($1.50) and Nori (Seaweed) ($1) Blazing Hot Rekka Ramen 10x ($10.45) with Soft-Boiled Egg ($1.50) Pan-Fried Yaki Gyoza ($4.75) The Yakibuta Chashu Pork Ramen is loaded! The 6 slices of chashu were incredibly tender and juicy. Some places serve slightly dry chashu but the ones here were cooked just right. Also, for the standard price of $11.95, getting 6 slices of chashu is great value among ramen restaurants in Vancouver. Adding the egg and nori makes this a beautifully-plated bowl. I also liked that the broth isn’t as heavy as the tonkotsu broth from Ramen Jinya .  Yakibuta Chashu Pork Ramen The Blazing Hot Rekka Ramen actually comes in 5x, 10x, 15x, and 20x variations of spice cooked into the broth. I would not survive anything past 10x, but this option is good for consumers who enjoy an extra spicy broth. To achieve the spice, Ichimi Togarashi red pepper is imported from Japan and mixed into the broth to give it a warm spicy taste. Blazing Hot Rekka Ramen Ramen Danbo specializes in tonkotsu (pork) broths and because they’re from the south of Japan, they use thin noodles to achieve an authentic Fukuoka-style ramen that’s meant to be consumed quickly while feeling light on the stomach. The Pan-Fried Yaki Gyoza have a scallion and pork filling inside. The side of the gyoza is lightly fried to give it a slight crunch. I liked that the gyoza were hot and juicy inside but I wish the skin was a little chewier for my tastes. In any case, the ramen is the

There's two selling points for the ramen here at Ramen Danbo:

the famous Fukuoka tonkotsu broth which is extremely rich from boiled pork bone fat and collagen over high heat
the thin, straight noodles which in Fukuoka, can be ordered to the firmness to the customer's liking
So how true does Ramen Danbo stay to ramen from Fukuoka? On paper it's obvious that there is a great deal of influence from the prefecture but I'm not exactly sure that I'm tasting the right flavours.

It is more expensive compared to other places but I do like it.. I agree with the other reviewers that this place is about ~$3-4 more expensive compared to other ramen places. The portions are smaller and the chashu slices are also much smaller and thinner compared to other places. But what I like about the place is that they allow a lot of customization so you get to choose how firm your ramen is, how thick your broth is, and how spicy you want the broth (if you are getting the spicy ramen).

The noodles are thinner, like the ones at Ramen Butcher. I did not like the Ramen Butcher noodles because they there were heavy and slightly soggy. But because you can customize noodle texture at Danbo, you can get firm or extra firm so despite the thinner shape, you can still enjoy the same bounciness as that of the thicker ramen. Additionally, the broth was flavorful but it wasn't heavy (I asked for "standard").

In conclusion, this place is expensive and I don't think it would be my go-to ramen place just because I like to dine on a budget, but I think it's got its selling points.

School makes me SO hungry. I swear I burn more calories studying then I do on the treadmill! After an hour of studying I'm already ravenous LOL. On the days that I go to school I eat twice as much as I usually do...like I did today hehe. I ate one ramen, one mentaiko donburi, and a charshu donburi!! And I was still hungry afterwards (is that normal?!) I was going to order a plate of gyozas, but I didn't want to spend anymore money haha!!

Very good pork broth (you can choose how rich you want the broth to be, I got regular and tasted great), they serve thinner ramen and you also tell them how hard or soft you want them; then you get to choose how fatty you want the chashu (I find the Chashu is too thin). Egg, seaweed, and other toppings are extra cost, which makes the ramen over priced for the amount you get; Nonetheless, a very good bowl of ramen.

Second time vacationing in Van, had to come back to Danbo. Everything here is incredible. Love the garlic puree at the table. The pork belly melts in your mouth and the eggs are the perfect texture. Was pretty busy at lunch but the wait was only about 20min. Extra half order of noodles for only $1 once you finish is perfect. Staff are efficient and lovely. The chairs double as storage bins for your coats.

We waited for 70 minutes and even though it was quite a while we definitely enjoyed our meal. The service was very quick and the servers are very knowledgeable with the menu. I love that they have vegan options and also offer customizations. Definitely coming back for more soon.

While the restaurant is small, the service is quick—you will not be waiting long. I also love that they have an entirely vegan-dedicated menu. The food is fresh, hot, and the portions are perfectly-sized for the price; I left feeling full! Most importantly, servers are friendly and helpful.

There was a long wait , almost 30 minutes . The place is tiny , still 5 star rating for their food and service. We hardly get good vegan options with ramen but the vegan options here are great. We tried the Classic ramen and the Miso ramen. I personally prefer the Miso ramen , which is more like mild curry . We tried the mushrooms which gives a really good texture to the ramen. The tofu is fried , again adding great texture and taste . Service was really quick and excellent, the girls were really patient and explained about the ingredients and taste .They are doing their best to manage the crowd and provide great service. Only suggestion : There is a long wait and they do have option to join line from Yelp online , I would highly recommend this to avoid the long wait

Stopped here on a Wednesday at 1pm and there was a 15 minute wait. They have a great lunch special here! Sitting in a booth took me right back to Japan. The ramen and gyoza were absolutely delicious and the perfect portion size (I usually can’t finish all the noodles). I’m so glad there’s a location in Seattle too because I’ll definitely be back!

I was pleasantly surprised by how good their vegan ramen was. I would say it’s probably the best I’ve ever had. The broth was rich, thick, complex, and full of flavor. Compared to the ramen I had in Japan this is very comparable.

We’ve been trying to eat at Ramen Danbo for two weeks now! There were so many people that were waiting in a long line to eat there! We finally got a place to eat and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! We ordered the gyoza and vegan rekka ramen! The food was hot, delicious and so tasty! We will definitely be visiting again!

Danbo Ramen rounds out the top tier list of most favoured ramen restaurants in Vancouver. I will admit it took me two trips - one to the location at Kits and the other on Denman before I could really put my finger on my feelings. Danbo’s specialty and focus is their Fukuoka-style tonkotsu ramen. With four different options - original, shio, miso, and negi-goma (sesame + green onion overdrive), along with extra spicy or chasu options, and a parallel copy menu for vegetarian/vegan friends, it was a little daunting to choose. Their additional option to add items like chasu or atsuage (tofu) made it even harder to choose. In the end, I opted for the original on the first run and the negi-goma on the second. I also got extra noodles halfway through my meal to taste the difference between their thin and thick noodles. Overall, I was impressed. Their broth was a rich soup that was flavourful yet balanced. The noodles were distinctly Japanese-sourced (and might I recommend getting the soft noodles as the standard firmness was harder than I was used to). The chasu was excellent quality. And for the price I paid to eat, I believe this was the cheapest of the three big ramen establishments I had tried. Overall, this was a wonderful experience that perfectly hit the balance on all strides. I would highly recommend checking out Danbo if this is your first time in Vancouver (if you don’t have Danbo in your area) as this will likely give you a good indication on what you value the most about ramen and noodles in general. Also koodos to the Kits location for having the Yelp waitlist functionality so we didn’t have to wait in-line for 40 minutes.
