Great staff, excellent food and drink, really affordable prices - what more do you want fer chrissakes? Go get you some!
Greasy spoon diner in the heart of the Main Street area. We came here for breakfast. Cornbread is soft and moist. Skillet and egg dishes were very heavy and quite greasy, still, we enjoyed it. The short ribs were quickly devours and loved by my friend. I ordered the ribs benny, the meat was chewy and entire dish quite heavy. I'd try the salmon benny instead. Service is a little slow and not as approachable as other establishments. Small space but still had to catch the eye of the server.
This is a neat little local place where I had dinner with family while in town last week. It's small and a little on the dark side, but quite friendly.
Service was very good - courteous and fast. No wait for seating or drinks and only minimal wait from the kitchen once the orders were placed.
While the menu is somewhat limited, the food was good. Excellent burgers and a Cuban sandwich that was as good as I've had anywhere. Topped with outstanding fresh sessions local brews on tap, it checks all the boxes for me.
The price was also very reasonable- less than $50 including tip and bar bill. The combination of value and quality makes it an excellent choice if you're in the area.
A great brunch spot on main. The restaurant is cozy and has a cute vintage feel to it. It can get crowded at peak brunch hours, but it's worth the wait. The service was very good and the food was yummy.
Trust me when I say that it is hard to find a breakfast place in the city that takes reservations, let alone one for 13 people. A fact I find odd considering this would be 13 guaranteed paid for plates, on an otherwise gamble of a service. Especially on a Wednesday morning at 10am. Calling every breakfast place I could think of eventually yielded “Slickity Jim’s”. They checked off all my boxes for a workplace breakfast that was something different, and more importantly not a chain like an “IHOP” or “Denny’s”. I wanted to treat my colleagues to somewhere nice, somewhere they might not get to go otherwise. This may not have been my first choice, but one just as great in their unique theme and one of a kind take on breakfast. Plus the price was right $9-$12 a plate.
Quirky and charming place. Great service - fast and friendly. So many options with something for everyone. Delicious and fresh food. Creative options with unusual (yet delicious) combinations! Will be back!
Pictured: The Chez Fe hash is a hit at Slickity Jim’s. Fall apart short ribs, crisp potatoes, and the generous serving of chimichurri sauce really complements and adds balance an otherwise heavy dish. I also enjoyed their homemade key lime pie while I was there. The inside was very quaint and cozy with the most interesting wall decorations!
Splendid eggs Benedict, with lots of different options to choose from. The hash browns are great too, as they are covered in fragrant herbs like thyme.
My kind of relaxing is having brunch with my friend on the weekend. We headed to Slickity Jim’s Chat n’ Chew and it was no surprise that there was a line up. There were other eager eaters like myself who woke up early to brunch! The wait was at least 30 minutes for us as we wanted to be seated with a table and not the bar area. Initially, we thought there were only a few tables at the front of the restaurant, but there’s a hidden passage that leads to the back with a few more tables!
Delicious and creative breakfast joint. Got there quite early and was able to sit right away but definitely would have had to wait in line if I had gotten there later.
Really creative brunch menu. Will have to come again to try more of the items.
Quick and cheap brunch/comfort food. Although lineup are usually long during peak hours and the seats are a tad bit uncomfortable, the food is decent and definitely inexpensive. 'Je suis un petit canard' is my dish suggestion if it is your first time going. Happy eating!
My partner and I had "je suis un petit canard" and "chez fe." Both were delectable in presentation and taste. The canard dish comes with scrambled eggs with goat feta and avocado, which was perfect for my partner seeking something healthier but also satisfying. It was topped off appropriately with potatoes and a salad. My chez fe was loaded with short ribs that would not stop giving; the portion was very generous. The ribs and roasted potatoes were an amazing combo and would really hit the spot for anyone craving a hearty and heavy breakfast. A bit on the greasy side, so I would not recommend it if one is after a more 'breakfast'-style meal.
Awesome food, service great and staff very friendly. We dined Wednesday evening... and decided Slickity was a sure repeat. Fun decor.
Quite possibly one if the best breakfast I have ever had!! Was a recommendation from a friend who owns a few restaurants on Main Street as a place to go for Breakie on our way passing through town and it didn't disappoint! Had the Breakfast of Broken Dreams and it was heaven! Fresh spinach with Carmelized onions and a beautiful Gorgonzola cheese sauce...yummy! Would go again for sure!
The ambiance will give you a hint of things to come.. As a new thing, I go out with my best friends to new, different places to be thoroughly surprised either good or bad. Its like rolling dice on the craps table. You're taking a chance. I have been on the fence about places being featured on triple d or you gotta eat here since some sub par fried chicken in Tacoma oh 3 years ago. So I walked in here unbiased of whatever the television said.
The decor is interesting to say the least. Very eclectic, very Main Street. we sat in a booth, which I thought was awesome being made of old school bus seats. But after sitting a while, i remembered why those bus rides were so uncomfortable... Sitting a long time became a bit uncomfortable.
My server was pretty chill, he was very diner-esk. And of course I know what Im walking into when I see bus seats as booths, so his service passed in my eyes. I ordered the Pasole, the Pulled pork and Gruyere burger and the Jambalaya. Pasole just because I hadnt seen Pasole anywhere else, so lets try the new and weird right?
Well, to my surprise, I didnt really have to venture far from the new and weird because the food was lacking flavor. I wanted more spices, more heat from the pasole. It tasted bean-ish and hinted with chili powder I think? The burger was plain... Meaning I could have got the plain burger and jazzed it up with hot sauce and saved myself a couple of bucks. Pulled pork was not apparent in the taste and the Gruyere was a bit stringy, but not a contributing factor to the anything in the burger. I think the Jambalaya was the most disappointing. The rice was good, being Chinese, I think I know my rice #racist (im joking). However, the Andouille wasnt really doing anything and I believe there was cheese in the Jambalaya but still wasnt doing anything here. I think what was missing here throughout the meal was salt. All the dishes need more seasoning. I want to know that the burger is a beef burger (which we had a choice of beef, turkey and something else) but you wouldnt know if there wasnt seasoning on the burger to differentiate them. I really enjoyed my bottle of Root Beer, always a good call. So I even though I wasnt pleased overall by the food, the service was good enough and the interior was eclectic enough for me to give it another try and say, maybe I ordered stuff they're not known for? After all, if every restaurant had the best of everything they made, nothing would be their specialty because their specialty would be everything... Right?!?!?! Ill roll the dice on Slickity again.
Wow tastey!. Busy Sunday nearly 1:30 pm only 10 minutes wait which was amazing. Yummy roast chicken and brie sandwich with lovely fresh salad. Hot coffee kept coming. This place always delights.
Awesome. Have been here twice now, both times were great! I definitely admire restaurants that have a decent vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free assortment and SJ's does not disappoint. Both meals that myself and my girlfriend enjoyed were delicious. Our server has attentive but not overly bothersome, which I like. Will come back and have already recommended many times
Great Breakfast. I was really reluctant to have breakfast at Slickity Jim's after reading all of the negative reviews so I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The eggs were cooked beautifully and my potatoes were crispy and hot all the way through. I agree that the service was slow but it was friendly and the coffee was plentiful. At the end of the day isn't that what's really important.
Bacon Care of Business - French toast with bacon, bourbon and cranberries. Need I say more!
Nice surprise. I had been told by a friend who lives in the neighbourhood how good breakfasts were and finally got the chance to go.... what a nice surprise... great sunny backroom for overflow (different atmosphere from the rest of the restaurant). Very congenial wait staff who knew the difference between being attentive and hovering! Great bennys and piping hot coffee...
Loved the attention put into the menu items names - great creativity...
Definitely going back with more friends!
Really cool decor and could totally smell food upon arrival. Came to try their brunch and the service was indeed a bit slow. I anticipated the slower service, as I was not in a rush. The Benny was cooked very well and the taste was good. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The prices were reasonable. Definitely would go and try other stuff on their menu. Overall experience: thumbs up.
Delicious Bennys. Many options to choose from! One of the best servers I've ever had. Kitchen was runnin slow, but understandable as it was a busy Saturday afternoon.
Dinner is worth a try, but brunch is unreal. The eclectic menu options suit the charming decor. Go.
Loved the H.A.T. E.. I ate the Revolution Eggs aka H.A.T.E and loved it. It's a benny on cornbread with a great side salad and yummy potatoes! Funky place, great atmosphere, friendly staff. I'll definitely be back.
Good and Bad. Before the fire, This place was great. Service was fast, food was good, coffee was quick... I have recently been here twice since the net opening. The first time was great, It was packed, but the servers did a great job. Food was good, not great, but good.
The second time was on a Thursday morning. there was 2 people in the place, plus me and my partner. it took 10 minutes before she asked if we want coffee. After placing are breaky order she brought our coffee. Food took 25 min to come out. there is no body in the place, what is the problem...
Food was crap, served overcooked eggs on my benny (which was asked to be medium) not enough holandais, and pretty much served us tasteless raw potatoes.
Shame on you for serving such crappy food.
Good MOST of the time. I've dropped into this place a few times over the last few years. Usually has been quite good, had one bad experience with my partner last week. I had the Tip Toe Through The Tulips, and it was fairly good, but she got the Waffles, and they were soggy right out of the kitchen. I mean not firm at all - like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a looong time, or had just been microwaved. Also were not hot. She had one there, noted there was barely any fruit sauce. That was unfortunate and reportedly boring. Upon coming home, stuck it in the oven and it crisped up good. So don't get the waffles. That said, they do have an excellent breakfast menu with lots of veg, and a fantastic portabello mushroom burger as well.
It's true -- all the reviews!. What can I say about Slickety Jim's that hasn't already been said? It's all true, everything I read here! Well, maybe not some of the WORST stuff about the service.
I ate at Slickety's and it WASN'T EVEN CROWDED. In fact, I walked by the joint mid-afternoon on a Thursday, saw it was almost empty, walked all the way to Red Cat Records (another Main Street hipster hangout about 10 blocks away) and Slickety's was still full of open tables when I walked back. So I popped in.
I've always felt a little guilty about Jim's, because it burned down the same weekend we moved to Vancouver. I hope it wasn't any bad mojo from me. So now I've been there, done that, might even do it again.
The burger was good -- no gristle, no fat, good fixins, cooked well all through -- I like mine that way. Not dry, but not a lot of grease and juices making my fingers all stickety. Potatoes not so good -- big redskins, pan-cooked in chunks with the skins and blemishes still on. People! There's a reason why we peel potatoes! It's the same reason we take oysters out of their shells before we slurp them. Some outer parts are not meant to be consumed.
The draught beer was cold, the waitress was cute and she didn't make me wait too long. Since there was only one other table going, no excuse not to, eh? Maybe I'll go for weekend brunch next time to witness some of the off-handed hostessing so many others have seen. Anyway, of all the "artisanal burger" places I've eaten, like Moderne, Vera's and a few others, Jim's is my fave so far. Not unforgettable, but original, not bad.
Best 'New' restaurant in Vancouver? YES!. I'm absolutely stunned to read all these negative reviews on here! My girlfriend and I stumbled onto this place last night (Saturday) at 10:30pm and had one of the best meals of our lives! I had never heard of the place, but apparently they used to be at Main and Broadway but the place burnt down last year. I guess they used to be famous for their breakfast menu.
I was probably most impressed with the service though. Our waitress/bartender actually ran over to our table to tell us the beer on tap we had ordered was out, and then ran back to pour us a substitute. There were a couple of other things like that had my girlfriend and I giggling to one another at how hard she was working to please us.
We had a delicious salad and portobello mushroom sandwich. We were still a little hungry, and despite the fact that the kitchen was closed, they made us a bowl of mussels with lots of bread to soak up all of the extra sauce! The menu itself is hilarious, with some of the most creative descriptions of the dishes. I'm thinking I'm going to come by often to take advantage of the 'bottomless' soup for $5.75!
We were blown away. We're so excited that this place has opened up just a few blocks from where we live. I really hope this place sticks around. Some of the other bar/restaurants in the area seem to have gotten quite arrogant because they think they are the only option in the area for people who want a drink and food after 10pm. They charge whatever they want and treat you like crap. Jim's prices are the best in the area (most under $10) and the service was great. Hopefully some of the other places up their game a little bit!
Went back after a multiple-year absence and it's as great as ever. Delicious breakfast fare, creative menu and the decor is nutty. Interesting mix of customers make it a good place to nosh and people watch. Cynics will call it pretentious but it's anything but. Main street concentrate.
Veggie sausage!!. So wonderful! i love this place. yes, it gets crowded and sometimes takes awhile, but i always find it is worth the wait. just don't go on a weekend morning and expect it to be quick!
Are you looking for someplace to have breakfast How about a busy little spot that’s got a flair for interesting names? I’ve never been here before but I’ve heard of the story of how the original Slickity Jim’s at Main and Broadway burned down in 2009.
My order wasn’t on the regular menu – it was the special for the day! I had the Turkey Lurkey ($11), which was an egg benedict ontop of an awesome turkey meatloaf and toasted english muffin. Same seasoned potatoes, which were nothing too amazing, but still pretty good. The portions were great too!
Slickity Jim's used to be located on Broadway and Main, but due to a bad fire, their business was destroyed. They did reopen on Main and 19th serving brunch, lunch and dinner. It's a popular place to have brunch on the weekend. I came down here with the YVRBreakfastClub! They have a few tables in the back that can accommodate large groups, so it was perfect. We did have to wait a while. The interior is very ornate with a bunch of strange items on the walls and ledges. This is the main dining area, but there is another room at the rear of the restaurant with additional seating. Their menu is the best! They have some very appealing dishes with unconventional names. It's not everyday that you can have the breakfast of broken dreams or the Revolution Eggs. It's a fun menu to explore, but I found the titles distracting since you can be so concentrated on the unique names rather than the description of the dishes. All the items are quite affordable and are mostly around $10. Coffee is needed
Anyways.. we went to main to go shopping and stopped by slickety Jim's Chat and Chew. I've read mixed reviews about this place but it was the first place the bus arrived to and we were starving. The decor is really funky with a ton of pictures and clocks,
Tried another new place for Sunday brunch. Slickity Jim's is on Main Street. Far size narrow restaurant that's open until 2:30pm.
Get there early! We arrived around 11am and didn't get seated till 11:30am. Long wait but food was delicious!
I had the Huevos Rancheros. It's a big helping loaded that was actually enough for 2 people. We also ordered the short rib Benny, ham & cheddar omelett and breakfast burger.
Also ordered the pancakes. They were more like crepes than pancakes. But we still enjoyed them.
Staff was very friendly and atmosphere was lively. Must try spot! You won't be disappointed.
Decent place for brunch. Would go back, but would not get the short rib breakfast sandwich. No salt and no taste to the chimichurri. Potatoes good, caesar good, cute interior.
Always a good meal at Slickity Jim's. I got the corn bread with scramble and chili. Yummm! The wait was about 15-20 min during peak lunch hour, which isn't bad. Usually we just kill time taking turns browsing Welk's. Great service here too.
No MSG No Garlic Foodie

SLICKITY JIM'S CHEW & CHAT
This place has the look of being there forever. Today, we parked across the street and noticed them. After checking out the menu, we got one of those parking stall picnic benches by the road. Under the tree and umbrella, 26°º with a decent breeze, it pleasant enough. We ordered salmon benny, one with add-on prosciutto. The prosciutto was quite salty, but improved the taste of the smoked salmon. The coating on the roasted potatoes was disgusting and left a bad taste in my mouth – powdered garlic or onion – not easily wiped out with a cup of coffee. We appreciated being able to choose the softness of the poached eggs (as some restaurants assume everyone is ok with soft poached). The servers were friendly and service excellent. I think they need at least one more sun umbrella.
Traditional version:
You were my first love
Brought me under your wing
Taught me to love the rain
And diners slinging eggs “n” bacon
Coffee cups never empty
You look so good at sunset
With those two lions on the horizon
A modern Cuban take:
You were my first love
Bought me all the stuff
Taught me not to rain in
And diners spend on eggs “n” save our bacon
Coffee Cups with eggs like Humpty Dumpty
We all look so good after two (‘o clock)
With those aprons hung up on the blue horizon - vanilla sky.
Went here for breakfast. Cozy little 'greasy spoon' diner that really kicks itself above the greasy spoon label. The dining room is covered in tchohkes, and the interior feels like a cozy basement. True to the name, there was a good crowd chatting it up when we arrived and the atmosphere was very homey. The menu offers both simple breakfast fare and interesting creative takes that I wouldn't mind diving into someday.
I had a scrambled egg sandwich with smoked salmon (and other typical fixings) on an English muffin that was a real winner. It came with a surprisingly tasty greens salad that you don't really expect with breakfast, but complimented the fishy sandwich nicely, and hand to God, then best damn hash browns I've ever eaten. My partner had eggs Benny with the eggs so beautifully and perfectly poached that it felt like a shame to actually eat them. Also at this place, they definitely like their hollondaise sauce lemony with a good tang to it.
Delicious food and friendly staff. The drinks were well made and the food was even better. Their price point beats all of the other breakfast spots I've been to in the city and can gladly say that I'll be making this a regularly visited weekend breakfast spot. I got the Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast and the flavours were all complimenting and delicious.
