The one good thing about the pandemic is that it’s a perfect time to try out all the popular brunch spots in town. No more lines! I’ve never heard of Chewie’s Biscuit Co before but they’re well known for their biscuit style sandwiches & bennies. It’s a few doors down from Linh Cafe.
I’ve been dying to try Chewie’s Biscuit Co. for a very, very, long time. So, when I found myself with a rare weekday afternoon off, I decided to make the trek out to Kits for a late breakfast. Once you walk inside, you head to the counter in the back to order your food and they’ll bring it out to you. I opted for The Moose ($13). Just to be clear, there’s no moose meat here (I think). It’s actually a fried chicken breast served on one of their famous biscuits and covered in sausage gravy, cheddar cheese, bacon, and a sunny-side up egg. Damn that yolk tho! I honestly have no idea how the yolk managed to stay intact given the precarious manner in which it was sandwiched within the biscuit. This is a serious winner… nice and crispy bacon, savory fried chicken with just the right amount of crisp chicken skin. The only thing that could have made this better would have been more of that creamy sausage gravy to dip with. Tip: This is a pretty dangerous thing to eat by hand if you’re trying to keep yolk from dripping on your clothes – I wound up knife-and-forking it.
• Came here at the right time, brunch!
• Metered parking along the streets 0800-2200 hrs
• Limited seating; some people grab their seats first before ordering... can’t blame them, there’s no clear way how to order
• Anyway, go the cashier, order your food from the huge menu on the wall, they’ll find you a seat then pay. Very small place. Seating capacity is approximately 30 or less
• the Moose is their best seller!
- Biscuit: pretty good, flaky
- Egg: nicely done
- the breaded chicken breast: soo good! Juicy, loved the crunchy texture & flavour. My only complaint is, it too small (I have small appetite, but this is small!) I wish though they make it at least 3/4 of a chicken breast. The size is equivalent to like 2 pieces of chicken fingers. Bacon + cheese: are included
- the gravy: lovely flavour and mixes well with the rest of the biscuit
• Dirty Fries: good, typical fries with some mayo, spices & spicy sauce
• Service: 100% nice people! Fast, efficient and they are happy!!!
• I recommend this place!

Finally, to the delight of biscuit lovers in Vancouver, a wonderful biscuit sandwich has arrived in Vancouver at Chewie's Biscuit Co., called The Moose! Foolishly, I did not photograph this piece of art from all angles so you could see the wonderful sunny side up egg ready to burst in yolky goodness. A wonderful biscuit, not too dry just slightly sweet, a delicious fried chicken breast, bacon, cheese, slightly peppery gravy and the aforementioned egg represent all the really important food groups and could quite possibly bring peace to the world. I am in love. This is truly more than the sum of the parts but I would gladly live my life on the parts alone. That would have been enough but we had to try The Clucky also! This is a fried drumstick, installed in a sweet 'Bonut' with gravy again for good measure. The sweet, salty and fatty work together magically. And in case we hadn't ordered enough, these are some mighty fine onion rings! This was just a great meal (Marie and I shared it and had leftovers in case you though I had managed it all by myself). Chewie himself was present and happy to talk about his research including the places where I had made the pilgrimages that I had mentioned. He knows his stuff and will not rest on his laurels. Expect great things to come from Chewie's Biscuit Co.!
