We had dinner there last night and the service was horrible. We constantly had to ask for our dishes, they missed some of the items that we ordered and it took forever to get anything. With all that Vancouver has to offer in Indian restaurants, I'd find one with good service!
India Bistro is located on Davie Street and they have an all you can eat lunch buffet. I actually came here with a friend for dinner to try out a few different items from their menu. I love Indian food, but I don’t eat it as often as I do. There is lots of paid parking outside on the street.
Disclaimer: I was invited for a private tasting at India Bistro by fellow food blogger and Instagrammer Julie (Yumdeliciousness). All food was complimentary but opinions are my own. I must preface this post by saying that I actually have very limited experience with Indian food (besides from the food court) and I believe this is the first blog post about Indian food that I’ve ever written! Sorry if I can’t describe everything properly! The last Indian restaurant I tried was Chutney Villa but I never blogged about it.
I just had a lunch there.. Even tho I was at almost the end of the lunch foos still pretty good! Tea coukd be better and no one of those Kirkland Chinese pouches.. Idia heaving an amazing tea they should promote that.. But the best was the bread... Oh that nana was amazing.. Their the only restaurant that make real naan bread in a tandoori charcoal oven..
Still thinking about that bread... Food selection could be better .. But I would go back anything!
[***Not Sponsored***] India Bistro is one of the longstanding restaurants on Davie and also one of two places serving Indian cuisine in Davie Village. India Bistro has been serving customers on Davie for over 10 years and I have been a customer for at least 8 years now since I moved to the West End. There is one other Indian restaurant on Davie across the street, Judge’s Indian Cuisine, but I prefer the flavours at India Bistro. Over the years, I have tried their lunch buffet and ordered takeout from them on many occasions. This post is a general overview of my experiences with India Bistro.
Though the restaurant doesn't have authentic East Indian cuisine (lack of flavours and food choices), it is a great place to eat. The overall atmosphere is great and the customer service is excellent.
Simple and cheap! While it might not be the best indian ive ever tasted, their lunch buffet all you can eat version is my go-to. Food is fresh, tasty, not much variety but what they do serve, they make really good. Butter chicken cannot be missed, and aloo gobi is delectable. The extra .5 is because the service is great every time and the food never gets me feeling heavy or bloated after.
A staple for indian cuisine. I never understood the hype about this place, it seems pretty ordinary and nothing special from the rest. Nothing really stands out, the decor looks like your average indian restaurant, bright colors, decorations and the food is what you would normally expect from a curry house. When we got delivery from them we knew why. Super friendly on the phone and they even called to confirm if the delivery arrived. Chicken tikka one of the best we have had, we could even eat it with the rice without having to get a ton of water or start sweating. Samosas were unique but we liked it, aloo gobi delicious.
Decided to come to dinner on a whim. I'm a vegetarian and my hubby is vegan; if it is not indian when we eat out, we go for thai or something ethnic. Not necessarily the best in town, (Vijs, anyone?) but consistent. Not a big fan of their lamb curries, but traditional plates are well done so no complaints there.
A local favourite. If you are looking for traditional Indian food, Punjabi/North Indian style, then this is the place to come. You can find everything you are looking for: samosas, aloo gobi, naan, etc. Their lunch is very popular so expect a long line otherwise come early. If you are on a budget, check out their deals, they actually have really good ones for two but the meals on average won't hurt or burn a hole in your pocket. Chicken tikka and garlic naan are their best dishes imo.
Indian cuisine and great feedbacks brought us to this place. We were very late and the resto was about to shut, but the person was very kind enough to wait only for us. The ambience and the interior is a wonderful thing in India Bistro. We ordered for basket of mixed nan and malai kofta... The koftas were so tasty and perfectly cooked. Never had such yummy indian cuisine here. Would surely recommend to everyone indian food lover.
Excellent both on takeout and in dining settings. The food is equally good, and we found no difference in the quality (with the exception of the naan being a little cold) from the many times we have eaten in with friends and family. This has become out Indian go-to for takeout when both of us do not feel like cooking.
There are lots of Indian eateries in town, some meh and some great. I'd put this one in the good category. Food is simple, but good. Easy to rely on and flavor is consistent. Tried out their delivery last week for the first time and it wasn't bad. Food is the same quality whether you dine in or out. Butter chicken is commendable.
Let's just say it's not smart to come here on a weekend with a huge group of people. Their buffet style lunch is on and the place is bustling, to say the least. Parking space is available at the back and we had trouble getting in. Now, I'm not trying to discourage you or telling you not to come, but just not in the large numbers we did for lunch. The food itself is pretty good, what you would normally find at an Indian restaurant, butter chicken, aloo gobi, naan, etc. Food is not too heavy nor does it stick to your stomach afterwards. It is worth the wait if you are hungry, just make sure you get there as soon as it opens.
Bold flavours, perfect spice and hearty meats, there's nothing to hate about the food from this place. Plus delivery comes on time without me having to return food or call them twice in a night. What started as an accidental order on JustEat because a personal favourite. The curry from here is great and even tastes good the day after, which is great when you are trying to save a couple of bucks. Not to sound too boring, but their butter chicken is amazing. Vindaloo is a close second though.
I came here on a Thursday night for a friend's birthday. We were quite a large group (there were eight of us at the end) and they do take reservations. It took a while for us to be accommodated at first, but once that was settled things went by smoothly.
I am no expert in Indian food, but I thought the food was good. The place is quite unassuming and nice. Drinks came out quickly and my party thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Our server was great and memorized everything we asked for, changes and all.
Comfortable and affordable food in a convenient location. We have been here in the past and found the food to be well seasoned and priced. Conventional and traditional indian dishes that can be found at any indian restaurant like butter chicken and aloo gobi. Drinks nothing new and service was ok.
hands down one of the best indian places I have eaten in. Atmosphere is very chill and laid-back, which makes it a great hangout place for friends or simply family. The patio is a great place especially when its warm, and the vibe is friendly. Food is on point every time I have gone, be it lunch or dinner. There are lots of really good vegetarian options to choose from, but the one that won me over was their chicken methi. Best I've had in Van.
Delicious! I've been coming for years, celebrated my birthday etc here and the food is really terrific, no matter what you are eating. They get the spice level right and always give you a little extra! Ordering takeout or even at the buffet, the quality is the same. Love the fact that they are so warm and friendly; the servers are really nice and know how to make you feel good.
Great food and service. There are lots of Indian restaurants in the city but this one is our go-to place. We have been coming here for years and we have yet to find an off day or grumpy employees. Lots for gluten free and vegan diets to choose from in a fun, casual environment to bring your best friend or a date. Highly recommend their lunch.
We always order from this place because it's become so familiar with my taste. It was my first try at Indian and the chicken tikka got me immediately hooked for life. Their butter chicken is amazing, and the daytime menu (all you can eat) is really good as well. Very friendly with outsiders and delivery never fails. Good value for your money
Impressed! We had a reservation for 6.45 pm and didn't have to wait for anything to arrive. Not the standard in this city and definitely not in NY. There was a wonderful variety of dishes to choose from and besides the appetizer, which was a little lackluster (pakoras were not at their point), the food was great. Our waiter came was attentive and im glad we did not have to hound him down for things.
This is my go to spot for Indian food. You can't go wrong with the food, even on weekends and peak time the food is very yummy. I simply love the tikka masala and channa. I usually order off of the menu but did try out their all you can eat and it won me over. And this is coming from someone who is not a big fan of buffets but I gotta say this one is pretty decent.
Great lunch choice every time. The food is always prompt, hot and reasonably spiced. Buffet can run out quickly so its best if you go in as soon as it opens 11ish, but 12 is fine. For lunch you can pick between the buffet or a la carte, buffet options is my preferred choice because you get the same quality but unlimited amounts of it :) The chicken dishes are their speciality, but my favourite is surprisingly the vegetarian cauliflower (gobi) dish.
India Bistro sports a lunch buffet that is really famous. DELICIOUS would be an understatement. The food here is superb, all the curries are on point and the flavour is great even when it is not too hot. The ambience is casual and friendly, and the location right at the heart of downtown is great for taking visitors from out of town. Also, can't ignore that fact that delivery is free!
This is slowly becoming one of my favourite spots for indian - curries here always exceed expectations. Even since I moved downtown I have been coming here for their samosas and bartha. Started with a takeout or two, and went on from that.
The place is a bit upscale looking for lunch but still works if you sit on the outside. Only complaint is that sometimes it gets jam packed, but other than that, it makes for a great spicy meal.
Best Indian food! Even the gf, who lived in India agrees. Although it is a bit of a drive for me every time I want to go, the overall experience makes up for it. The plates are delicious, especially the palak paneer and the pakoras always make for a great entry plate. The staff is always attentive and help make eating here pleasant.
On way to alaska twice i had been to india bistro last year may 2014. Specially in British Columbia near to down town of all the indian restaurant i found this one is the best, specially the butter chicken and their naan.
This was my second time at India Bistro, and the better one of the times. We arrived at around a quarter to seven and the line was long. Chances to sit at the patio were cut short, but the noise level toned down tremendously by the time we were seated. The server this time was much more attentive and talkative, and made sure our orders were not messed up. Must recommend the lamb vindaloo and the gulab jamun for dessert.
Channa with butter naan is delicious here. The array of dishes served in this restaurant is impeccable, to say the least. The chicken handee is one of the best I have ever tasted and paired with a nice drink and some basmati rice, it makes for a fine evening. The waiter we last got was punctual and not too over the top, and his recommendations for food and drink were very good. The bill for two comes at about 50 bucks drinks included.
Definitely on the list of best Indian restaurants in Vancouver. Great location & food. The six of us headed down here after practice and had to wait for a table. Apparently this is quite normal for the area. To be noted, patio seating is definitely the better of the views. Go for it! The food was great - I really liked their preparation of lamb jogan rosh. There is also an abundance of vegetarian dishes, which delighted my friends.
One of the few places in where the food isn't sloppily cooked or dry for lunch. Whether you come just for the buffet or for a nice dinner, the food is of amazing value. I must confess I went to their buffet for days in a row because I simply couldn't get enough of their chicken curry. It was delicious! Their samosas were great as well. For being an indian restaurant in downtown, the prices are quite affordable.
Great restaurant. Not too bad on the wallet and w/ lots of options for vegans to choose from. The constant deals and specials is what really keeps me coming back; eating here becomes so inexpensive. Try your hand in the paneer tikka and butter chicken, those are always fresh. For some reason a lot of people have their business meetings here, so it can get a little noisy.
As a person who abides by the quality over quantity rule, I wasn't too pleased when my friend suggested we come here for the buffet. India Bistro reminded me that there are always exceptions.
I'm glad I went through with his suggestion because the food was actually very good. Channa masala, butter chicken, basmati rice all on point. Fresh, spicy and consistent. The a la carte dishes are also excellent and recommended, especially the lamb rogan rosh.
The variety and freshness of the plates served at the buffet is amazing, which is why I keep on coming here for lunch. My personal favourite for Indian food. The tandoori chicken is cooked to perfection, which helps explain to the gf why I can't manage to lose weight...
Only problem is that it can get a bit crowded sometimes, so go early if you are like me and have little patience
Excellent service and food, one of the best in the area. We've come here a couple of times after ordering from them online and loved it. Food is consistently good, not bland and tasteless like in other places, and if you come in, the staff is super friendly (which makes coming back not be such a hassle!) Chicken tikka highly recommended.
Good attentive service, food was good but except for the pakoras, not freshly prepared, we would be willing to wait longer for freshly made dishes.
The best butter chicken ever!! I always do takeout off orderit.ca it's fast delivery! Also the dessert selection is fulfilling! I love the cheese balls in milk ! Will order from here always! Great great food !
Food was good; Service was great!. Hubby, kiddo and I stopped in on New Year's Day while out enjoying the cold, sunny weather. We had the buffet. I did not dislike anything, and a couple things were fabulous. The tandoori chicken was amazing! Hubby, who isn't a huge fan of Indian food, enjoyed himself. We would eat here again.
Incredible dishes and rice - delivery never diasappoints and usually arrives sooner than expected!
Great gluten free food!. Really impressed with the food here! They have a huge menu, most of which is gluten free or can be done gluten free, like there amazing calamari. I missed out on the naan bread, obviously not gluten free, but my girlfriend loved her palak paneer naan. Go here, it's really good!
Love dinner here. This is a great place to go for dinner! A friend of mine whose family is Indian came here with me expecting it to not measure up to her standards and was surprised by how good it was. I have come here many times and have always enjoyed the service and the food. Delicious!
Everything was great! I think they only had two servers on for each side of the resto but our girl did a bang up awesome job. Delicious naan, not too thick or doughy. We ordered vegetable samosa, garlic naan, chicken vindaloo and eggplant. Vegetable samosas came as a pair with delicious tamarind sauce, which tasted like real tamarind. Vindaloo was served with a slice of lon which we squeezed on top of the dish and it accentuated the sour and tomato taste of the dish. The eggplant we loved love loved. You could taste the smokiness, and it had a great spice that didn't hit you right away but burned a slow heat through the meal. It kept me warm and so full for the walk home. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, wine i personally thought was a bit expensive for the prices of the menu (7.25$ a glass)
Great food, decent price, nice staff. Would definite eat here again.
Good Food Good Restaurant. We liked the food alot. Service was good, food was great, atmosphere and restaurant is cozy and nice. Worth the money, worth a visit. Will be back.
I have to say that this place is pretty darn good. I've eaten a fair amount of Indian food around the wirks and whilst this is not the best, it's a pretty good middle of the road. Service was quick, friendly and food was fast. Overall, not amazing, but good
Great Value. This restaurant has become one of my favorite dinner spots in Vancouver. Service is always amazing, the food is not over-priced and it always tastes great.
They deliver. Cant say enough good things about the food and the service! The minute we called to the moment we finished eating the experience was fantastic!
Food was great quality...I asked for hot, and got it just the way i like it. My companion wanted it medium and hers was packed separately and was just right. The desert and Naan was done to perfection as well.
Moreover we had a time limit and as promised they delivered to our room within 20 minutes and we were 10 minutes away from them.
Recommended.
Good Indian in a cozy room. Ordered à la Carte: Lamb Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken and Baingan Bharta (smoky stewed eggplant). All good and all served served by friendly attentive staff. Everybody else seemed to be enjoying the buffet.
Mmmmmmm, curry. Ate there last night. Working on my review; wow. Stay tooned Gastro-fans.
Curry Bob
They are always fast and accurate and the food always arrives hot. Today is no exception.
Py and I went shopping in downtown today as she was nice enough to go purse hunting with me :) We didn't plan on dining at a specific place, so we decided to walk along Davie and just go into any restaurant that looked interesting. We passed by India Bistro and both of us were like "Yay let's go for Indian food!" She was initially worried that the prices would be really high considering the location, but we took a look at the menu posted outside and the prices seemed reasonable. So we went in and I ordered a mango lassi ($3.75) just like I always do at Indian restaurants. The glass was not too big, but it was quite good. I had a hard time resisting the urge to finish it before the food came. The dish I almost always get is butter chicken because it's one of the few dishes that is not spicy at all. The fact that it's so rich, creamy and delicious also helps. The butter chicken ($10.95) here was particularly creamy. The bowl it was served in looked small, but it was actually a lot bigger
The food is delicious! The service is excellent i really recommend the place. I have a chicken byriani, veggie samosas and a dessert with the tea everything was awesome!! And the service the best!
Everything was absolutely delicious. The food we ordered was excellent, and the ambiance is nice. From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed. There is friendly staff about to clean your table between courses. Highly recommended.
I ordered food online and I highly recommend the Okra sabzi. The food packaging was good and order was timely delivered. Roti was also soft. Veg biryani was good too and I really loved the side raita with the biryani. Definitely going to visit this place.
Our first ever Vancouver buffet. Whenever I see buffet I automatically have low expectations but this place did quite the opposite. We were greeted and served by one of the nicest waiters I’ve ever had in the city. Big genuine smiles. Very polite. Super friendly. Now for the buffet. We were shocked to find it had 7 vegetarian dishes! Plus deserts! A very pleasant surprise compared to most places we’ve visited. The rest were chicken dishes that were all very yummy. My partner tried the veggie dishes and had quite the same reaction. They also provide freshly made naans that were to die for. Anyway, you get the gist. So if you’re looking for a lunch time meal this is definitely a must.
I had a very good experience at this place. The food was great and tasty, the prices are very friendly, I liked the service, too.
One suggestion guys: take out the name of the printing company from the middle of the menu (unless it is your business :D ). It was kinda funny seeing between the chicken dishes and the seafood section "XXX printing solutions". The menu is the last place where they should advertise themselves.
The food is tasty. I ordered Chicken Biryani, great flavor. I will come back, sure thing.
Fabulous food (you cannot find tastier rice anywhere!), substantial portions. Down side was the service - so slow it seemed the server had forgotten us. Sure, we were there during 'last call' but important to keep your eye on the ball!
