A terrific restaurant! Most Indian cuisine in North America is north style, so it's a real treat to have South Indian cuisine. There are many items on the menu which you will not see elsewhere. The staff are very helpful in making recommendations. My favourite place to take out of town visitors who like Indian food.

This is a small Indian restaurant located near the intersection between Broadway and Main. In addition to their regular menu, which consists of a pretty extensive selection of curries and various south Indian dishes, they also offer a buffet and lunch specials. I had their Butter Chicken from their lunch specials as well as a Kutto Rotti with Mutton. The food was quite tasty and reasonably priced for the portions. The server I had was a bit curt, but also fairly attentive. If you enjoy Indian food, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.

Lunch Special Butter Chicken ($11.99):
3.5/5
This came with rice, pappadam, raita, dhal curry, as well as 3 chutneys (apple, tomato, and coconut). The curry wasn't my favourite personally: it was completely salty in flavour, and lacking in some of the sweetness/tanginess that I prefer. The pieces of chicken was also a bit on the dry side; however, the portion was pretty generous for a lunch serving. I also really enjoyed the pappadam, which was like a crispy, savoury wafer. The basmati rice also stood up well to the curry. The chutneys were a nice touch: I liked the apple and the tomato; I was not a big fan of the coconut however, which was a bit too salty and lacking in fragrance.

Kutto Rotti, Mutton ($12):
4/5
This was pieces of bread that's cooked with various spices, egg, and lamb. I really enjoyed this: I guess it's kind of similar to chopped up pieces of noodles. It was very flavourful, with a nice bit of heat. I did find the lamb pieces to be a bit small, but reasonably tender.

Summary:
Food: 4/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Overall: 4/5
Recommendations: Kutto Rotti

Had simple Dosas and Idly and was happy about quality and taste. Service was slow but maybe due to peak time we went. Need to visit again to check out other dishes in the menu.

Location: Main Street & Broadway, 99 B-line straight to Main Street

Ambience : Nice, few servers only

Food: I tried Idli, Medu Vada, Daal Vada, Masala Dosa, Tamarind rice; Kothu Rotti. All of the items were very very tasty. Of all, tamarind rice was THE BEST.

*A must try place to enjoy South - Indian delicacies

Chutney Villa is located in the central part of the city, just off Main and Broadway. There wasn’t a parking lot and only paid meter parking, which kinda sucked because that area is always busy and hard to find spots. But since we got there right before the dinner rush, we found a parking spot nearby.

Our noses were greeted right away with aromatic spices! The restaurant was also clean and well maintained.

We just arrived in Vancouver, this was the first place we choose to have food in. I was really craving dosa, so I ordered a plain dosa for myself and shared an idli. Both the dishes were perfectly made and were served to us on time. The sever was very interactive and honest about how the food was cooked as we were all vegetarians.

My boyfriend and I have been here for DineOut Vancouver 2017 as well as with their regular menu. We've had the
Onion Bhaji (Onion rings, Indian style)
Aachi Varavul (Cauliflower fried in a crunchy, peppery, rice and lentil batter)
Chicken Briyani
Mutton Kothu Rotti
All amazing and delicious. They also have a great lunch deal. This place is amazing!!

Walk in through a small door on a busy street and you'll be greeted by a clean restaurant with occasional sounds of strong chopping. Chutney Villa is a place for south Indians if they want home away from home. The best thing on their menu is a dessert, 'Kesari'. ('Halwa' for north Indians with a twist). You ask for spicy and you'll see quite a number of green chillies in your food, which makes it more than authentic. Don't ask for extra hot unless you eat raw green chillies. Just the way, we spice loving creatures like.

Cons: no parking around this restaurant. Basically on the street, but it's a busy street and you probably will have to walk down from the next block if you are really in mood for some south-Indian. But even if it's raining and you have to walk a block, it's kinda worth it if you make the right choice.

PS: Had the Masala uttapum with a lot of green chillies. Amazing experience and food.

Such amazing food. Best service and the food is always great. The food tastes just like how it is cooked at home. They could even accommodate many people with fast service. Overall, it is a great restaurant.

Asked for authentic spicy. Got authentic spicy. It's south Indian/Sri Lankan cuisine so don't expect butter chicken. Surprise hit: roti canai

Chutney Villa in Mount Pleasant has been a restaurant that I have been going to for dine-in and take-out Southern Indian Cuisine.  Located just off of West Broadway and Cambie, the restaurant has been open for many years and has received recognition by Vancouver Magazine and the Georgia Straight.  It’s a casual eatery with honest-to-goodness South Indian food featuring rich, deeply-spiced curries and crisp, crepe-like dosas.

A Different Experience. After almost an hour of searching for a south indian place in Vancouver, we narrowed down on Chutney Villa and I must say we were in for a surprise. The restaurant was decorated with authentic paintings, statues of Indian Gods and candles. The menu was a little overwhelming as it had many native terms for the food, but the variety was great. They serve everything from vegetarian to seafood to meats to just snacks. As it was out first time, the waitress took her time and explained to us about their menu and said that they had something called the " Village Feast Special" (only available on wednesdays). My son and I decided to order the masala Dosa, while my wife and my other son decided to give the village feast a try.

Village Feast: Served on a banana leaf, It had about 5-6 vegetable/curry dishes, yogurt, papdam, pickle and dessert with an ample portion of rice. Each of the dishes had a different taste, some were a little spicier than others. The only thing was some dishes were very oily but they tasted good. Overall, i would rate it 7.5/10.

Masala Dosa: It was crispy, light and the different chutneys complemented the dosa very well. I found the tomato chutney to be a bit on the spicier side but again I am not a spicy person,so the sweet apple and pineapple chutneys were my favourite. The dosa had a yellow stuffing on the inside made with potatoes and onions. The lentil curry that came with the dosa was also good but a little salty.I would say 7/10 for the dish.

Overall, the place had a great dinner ambiance, great food, friendly service, slightly on the pricier side but it was definitely worth it.

Overall Good. Came here for Dineout '14 and overall my friends and I enjoyed the food and the charm of the place. We felt that the music was a bit loud for the size of the restaurant though and that the service could have been better.
When we arrived it took her a fair amount of time after she saw us for her to greet and seat us.. and she could have been a bit more attentive with the tables (had to ask for drinks after we waited several minutes with all of us with empty glasses), other than that the server was nice.

This was the first time any of us had South Indian food and everyone was pretty pleased with what we had. Yum yum even though the service is a bit slow (easssyy to improve, hint hint) I would still say check it out it's really good

Different from most Indian food. This is a South Indian restaurant and the word SOUTH is important. Most Indian restaurants in Vancouver are North Indian so what you'll find here is quite different. Personally, I prefer South Indian. What I'd say is: if you like Indian food in general but you've never tried South Indian food in particular, you should at least give it a try to see the difference and decide for yourself. And this is a great restaurant for South Indian food. I actually lived in Sri Lanka for over seven years and am quite familiar with Tamil cuisine so I can guarantee you that what you'll be getting at Chutney Villa is truly authentic. Plus, the chutneys that come with every meal are soooooo good. I've been several times already and will be going back again.

When I visited Vancouver in April, I had to dine here. This place was recommended by a coworker as his favourite restaurant in the city, hands down. It was my first time trying South Indian food, and this place didn't disappoint!

Delicious South Indian Food, Attentive and Kind Service. My partner and I have been to Chutney Villa many times, and we've loved each meal. Last week we popped in for dinner, and I ordered the Madras Lamb Curry (spicy!) with a Moru. It was absolutely delicious, piping hot, with just the right amount of spice. Our server was very kind and attentive. Will definitely return, and continue to recommend!

Really Enjoyed. Ordered delivery from the Chutney Villa for this first time this evening. It was different than the Indian food we normally get. Different was REALLY GOOD.

Both of our favourite was the Chicken 65, tasty as can be. We also had the Kothu Rotti and Kholi Varutha Curry, both very tasty. the only item we would not order again was the Aachi Varuval, bland and a little mushy.

Overall a really great experience food wise, totally recommend.

Authentic Experience. In a city where "butter chicken" dominates every form of Indian cuisine it was so refreshing to taste excellent and traditional south Indian flavors. Highly recommended and is way tops in comparison to any other south Indian restaurant in Vancouver.

Surprising good!. I came here for dineout this year on a weekday and I never expect too much for dineout food, since it's usually rushed and the food quality is mediocre. I was pleasantly surprised! The food quality was excellent.

For $18, I got three courses.
I had the dosa for appetizer, prawn curry and rice and homemade mango ice cream

Except they hurried us out and gave us our bill in exactly 1 hr but the food was excellent!

I would go back :)

Great for lunch and dinner.. Used to work just a few blocks away, and coming here for their daily lunch special once a week was the highlight of my week. Excellent south Indian curries at a variety of spice levels, delicious on-site-made chutneys come with everything, and very reasonably priced at 9-12 for lunch. Their dinner is closer to 15-20, but the menu is quite a bit larger, and everything I've tried here so far, upwards of 5-7 dishes between M. and I, has been good or excellent. Strongly recommend.

The lunch special is a great price ($10) and enough to satisfy most appetites when their version of a naan is added.

My friend chose Indian cuisine for tonight’s dinner, wanting to enjoy a healthier option, as a pose to our original plan of burgers. I have driven past their familiar store front several times. The orange and black colour scheme is eye catching from the road. Peering inside I couldn’t see much thanks to their dim lighting. Though once in, I saw white walls and red booths, and wall trim in a dark wood brown. This wood matched the type and colour of the frames handing above. Inside these frames was a series of oil painting. Each represented a traditional East Indian scene, a prince in a gold carriage led by two handsome white steeds. Two woman dressed in colourful saris balancing parcels on their head as they walk pass a beach with fishermen working in the water. And a man and woman riding a camel in a gold and orange desert. Across from this scene were two aches built into the wall. These alcoves with their dome shapes made the best place for a shrine. Stone statues, Lotus flower tea li
