What a crowd on Sunday morning! So busy and even with a reservation, there was a wait. But it was well worth it. Tastiest dim sum I’ve had in I don’t know how long (and much better than in my hometown of SYDNEY Australia. Wow: those delicate siu mai! Or the perfect rice rolls with prawns or char siu!
I like Red Star. My parents hosted my wedding reception at the Red Star in Richmond. I heard that the dim sum at Red Star is pretty good too. I suggested to Beep Beep that we enjoy our last lunch together Red Star’s Marpole location. Red Star offers free parking, though there are limited stalls. When we arrived, I noticed several parties were ordering crab and lobster to supplement their dim sum feast. It took a while for the dishes to come out, but everything that arrived was hot and fresh.
Really enjoyed my dinner here. The Peking Duck was delicious, as well as the lobster! The other dishes we ordered (pictured) were also quite good! I would come back again.
We had lunch and dinner at this restaurant in the past. Yesterday we came here for a Mother's Day lunch. We made reservation two weeks ago. Even though we had made reservation, the wait for a table was still very long. More than half an hour.... Lots of people were waiting for tables. The foyer or entrance of the restaurant was packed. Some customers had to wait outside the restaurant. It was ridiculously packed.
We waited to be seated. The service was quite good even though the restaurant was busy full of customers. Surprisingly a few servers took care of our table. Not bad!
We ordered a few dishes of food and some dim sum for lunch. Everything tasted great. We didn't have any complaints about it. We loved their roasted squabs and BBQ duck. The skin was crispy and tasty.
This restaurant is located on Granville Street in Vancouver. There are not too many good Chinese restaurants around that neighbourhood. Be expected to pay a little bit more, but it was worth for the wait if you would like to eat good food.
There is an underground parking next to the restaurant but not a lot of parking stalls that belong to this restaurant, so I would highly recommend people to look for street parking directly. Don't even drive into the small underground parking and get stuck that you have to wait to go in and out of the parking lot. There is free street parking just a couple blocks away.
Good dim sum. Always busy during dim sum and justifiably so. Everything is fresh and tastes delicious, good selection and good service. The items may cost a bit more than say Golden Ocean but there is a reason for that.
Awesome Dim Sum. I know that Vancouver has a lot of good dim sum restaurants, but one of the ones that stands out to me most is Red Star Seafood. I've been returning to this place for years. From the restaurant's quality of food, service, to ambiance, Red Star is definitely one of my favourite of all times. There are no surprises, every time I go, you can tell that they've put effort into making their dim sums. It's fresh and the portions are just right, not too small, not too big. I personally don't like dim sums that are too big, I like quality over quantity, so the ones here are just right. They also have locations in Hong Kong, which I believe is where they started, the same with Sun Sui Wah. The Red Star Seafood in Hong Kong are excellent as well, so if anyone's planning to travel to HK, I would recommend a trip there. This is because the last time I was there, they had dim sums that were made into cute shapes and designs. When I went, they had a circus theme where you can get ha gao's, siu mai's, dumplings and some other deep fried dishes in circus-related shapes (such as animals and clowns). I'm a grown up, and I can't even tell you how excited I was, nonetheless if a child went. I'm not sure if they still have them though, or if they have another theme.
All in all, this is definitely one of my favourites!
We went to dim sum and we loved it!! No msg feeling afterall not oily at all. Service was excellent! We will be back.
Excellent Dim Sum quality without that gross MSG feeling after. Not as cheap a those on Kingsway and a bit off the beaten path, but well with the drive!
Order The Duck. Weekend dim sum was packed. Service was very good considering the volume of people and food moving about. I expected mistakes as they don't use a cart but rather bring out orders from the kitchen individually. Everything came as ordered.
I love barbeque duck and this one was excellent. Dim sum was hit and miss. Will definitely go back and fine tune my ordering. I would also like to go back for dinner. They validate parking in the underground garage.
Right service and food for this area.... The price is fair as well...
Good selection of dim sum, and their roasted duck is so tasty!
I really like their signature roast duck, steamed radish cake and Chinese broccoli with dried sole. Other dim sums are not bad at all.
It's always good to have more varieties right? One more good dim sum restaurant on our list:)
I have to say their seafood dumplings is a MUST order dish.
+ all in all, red start seafood is still one of my favorite go to place for dim sum (after kirin). it has is at a good location, has free parking, efficient service and nice interior for a busy and crowded cantonese restaurant!
... The geoduck was cooked perfectly so it wasn't too chewy. It goes great with the light soy dipping sauce. Roasted Squab This was perfectly roasted with tender meat and crispy skin.
The third dinner in the Eight Great Tradition of Chinese Cuisine (8GTCC) dinners was the Cantonese cuisine. It was supposed to be the easiest of all dinners but as it turned out, it quickly became the hardest to organize.
Fantastic food, delicious, incredibly prompt, polite and accurate service. More upscale Chinese restaurant, so is a bit more pricey than typical but definitely worth a trip or for brining visitors to Vancouver. Deep fried spicy fish is awesome, crispy fried chicken is wonderful, delicious fried rice. Everything was very good. Highly recommended and we will return!
We arrived at 630pm on Remembrance day without reservation and was seated promptly. The restaurant was 75% full but service was very efficient. We ordered the black pepper crab, which was very fresh and tasty. The waiter recommended catch of the day and we also ordered deep fried squab. All was very authentic Cantonese style. Service was good. Parking needs a bit of planning ahead but not a big issue. Would go again if I'm in the area.
Had dinner with family here not too long ago and just loved the flavors. The Peking duck is crispy and moist, and the crab with noodles, delicious! We loved the combination cold plate as well.
Would love to return again for their signature dishes. Do make reservations as they are crowded.
Dim sum overall very good, excellent service. Feel comfortable with social distancing, highly recommended to try.
I haven’t sat in the restaurant for a while, been ordering takeout. What can I say, the food is always good. It’s a little pricy, but it really is delicious.
This place has excellent Chinese food. The Dim sum and seafood chow mein were very enjoyable.
Great Peking duck. Great quality food. Attention to detail in the kitchen was amazing - even the lettuce served were all the same size for round 2. Service was typical of dim sum style place - a little hard to get attention from so it took a little longer between requests and getting the bill, but otherwise a very enjoyable experience
