Review Bob Likes Thai Food - Vancouver

Opted to order the "Something" which was a great decision. Giving the chef's the opportunity to cook what they want is a win win for everyone involved. This time, it was a Peking duck style pork belly - which was fantastic. My friends opted for a noodle dish and the massaman curry. Both were flavorful and filling. While all the food was great - the service was the real standout. Everyone was friendly and charming. The banter from one specific server elevated the experience entirely. Altogether, can't recommend it enough.

Super delicious Thai food! We got the green curry chicken and their poutine which is taro chips smothered in green curry sauce and little chunks of fried tofu. Everything was seasoned well and full of flavor. Thai milk tea was rich and not watered down as well. Service was attentive. Will come back to try other dishes!

I was disappointed to the taste. Maybe because I had high expectation from others. Well.. Beef Panang Curry was hot and creamy, but too salty. The chicken Satay was dry. The atmosphere was quite dark and the service was a bit harsh and cold.
EDIT: revised to reflect the shrinking portion sizes. You can't raise prices and decrease portion sizes... Authentic Thai food at an affordable price. Portions look small. Incredibly tasty and fresh - I went here with my Thai partner and she thought it tasted just like Thailand. Would definitely recommend and come back for more!

The Thai restaurant is really authentic. ⭐️Delicious: recommended shrimp salad, fried tofu must be ordered ⭐️Service: The service staff is very attentive, will not give you pressure, make people enjoy and comfortable ⭐️Environment: clean and comfortable! Easy parking

Ate at the restaurant not long ago, unfortunately, a lot of things we wanted to try were sold out or not available (we sat down early too, like 5pm). It's not the most comfortable restaurant, but the food's pretty good. We ordered from them again, this time for delivery, and seriously their DRUNKEN NOODLES are noms. Will go back just for that dish.

They’ve gone massively downhill and my last two orders have been absolutely brutal. First they ignored a peanut allergy and this time, after about a year I give them a second chance and get spring rolls that spent an hour in the fryer and a hair in my main. Never again.

Disappointing, pretty confused by all the high reviews. One of the least tasty pad thai ive had. The restaurant had no chili sauce/oil for me to spice my dish up, they offered me Sriracha lol the drunken noodles were better then the pad thai but I was expecting a better experience altogether. Prices are very high as well that's what makes this place somewhere I would not return for the quality of food.

Very average. Located right in the heart of H-town (hipster) and the food is a reflection of it. Expensive and not reccomended for anyone looking for authentic Thai food.

Every dish we tried was soooo good! It wasn’t busy when we went either (a Wednesday). The restaurant is a bit plain in terms of the decorations but the food makes up for it!

Everything here was ridiculously salty. The food would have been really great but it was so hard for us to finish everything just because of the salt. Other than that, the space was clean and welcoming. I think Bob makes my favourite Thai milk tea!

This was my backup Thai place as the other one I tried was full. This ending up having spectacular food and the décor was awesome. The service was fast and prompt even though there was a slight wait to get in due to its awesomeness.

Great service, fantastic food! Phad Thai and green curry were hefty portions! Will most Defintley be back here when we return to the area! .

This was plan B for a Thai take out night and it worked out well!

Did take-out, for the two of us and a 20 minute wait. 36$ tax all-in (2 jasmine rice servings, 1 panang curry and 1 red curry) was average price I would say. There was plenty of leftovers which I always love! Generous with the meat in the dish and the sauces were yummy.
The lady on the phone was super helpful in making food recommendations and they cared about ensuring good customer service.

We did ask for super spicy and it wasn't that hot... so that was the only con to all the other pros.

I'd come back, but wouldn't rush back. So far this was our second Thai restaurent experience in Vancouver so will definitely keep it in mind after trying out the competition! :)
PRICE: entrees from $10-15, appies from $5-10

lunch specials for $12

SIZE: size was fair for the lunch special, but it seemed that ordering off the normal menu would've been slightly more expensive but larger portions

PROS: good flavours, decent pricing for normal orders

CONS: lunch specials aren't worth it, nothing remarkable

OVERALL: MEH

GO FOR: solid thai food, but somewhat pricy for lunch and the dining environment

Went with a group of friends for dinner. Had the Pad Thai and requested medium spicy level. It had an excellent kick plenty of ingredients. The noodle was bit too chewy when it arrived I think it was just because it was made quite fast after awhile it was fine. Also had the chicken Satay it was very soft and flavourful on its own. There are a lot of items to try on the menu so I will definitely be back. Thai Milk Iced Tea was excellent balance of tea taste and sweetness.

Disappointed. We were passing by this restaurant and thought we could give it a try. I found it odd already that the restaurant was only 1/4 full on a weekend. I initially wanted to order the special, which comes with a salad. I asked the waiter if there was anyway that my veggies could be cooked, since I was pregnant. The waitress gave me an extremely odd look...like I was really weird. She just provided me a "no", or simply go without salad. I then switched my order to pad thai, thinking that everything is simply stir fried. The waitress asked if the bean sprouts and chives needed to be cooked also. I emphasized that everything needs to be fully cooked for me - again her response was "ok....." followed by a strange stare. The pad thai finally came without any bean sprouts or chives at all. (is it really hard to stir fry the bean sprouts along with everything else?) and plus the dish was way too salty.

I was quite disappointed......I was actually very close to go without ordering anything at all since any small accomodation seemed to be a hassle.

Went for dinner today and got their Thai green curry chicken, ginger beef, and their pad thai. Asking them to make things peanut free was easy as can be, and everything was delicious. The beef was a little tough, but not bad. It's hard to pick my favourite between the curry and the pad thai...

Apologies for my absence the past couple of weeks. I’ve been pre-occupied with other things such as… well in all honestly I’ve just been busy going out and eating but I didn’t have any time to sit down with my laptop. So basically I’ve been lazy. Sorry😉. The next few posts will be restaurants that I’ve visited in the past few weeks/months. Sorry for the delay.

Can you tell how much I adore thai food? I think I have made searching out for the best and most authentic thai food in Vancouver a goal for 2016. Am I near completion? Have I found the one? I think Bob Likes Thai Food is coming up quite close! Serving up northern Thai cuisine, Bob takes you on a journey that marries dishes around the world with thai flavours.

Love this place! It's a cute little restaurant on Main. Went here before the afternoon closing time, so there was no wait. Not sure how busy it gets during peak hours, but call in advance as there's very limited seating.
Food is delicious, I've tried the pad Thai, massaman curry, and the "poutine" - love it all! Will definitely come back.

went here on weekdays night and was curious about this place after hearing about it from a couple friends. while for the first time, i notice that the price is a bit more expensive than what i wanted them to be, but at the same time i remember most thai food are expensive as well, so without much thought I ordered panang beef and masaman curry. when all the dishes came along with my friend's tom yum soup, the tom yum soup is definitely okay, it does have the kick, and the curry i find them slightly sweeter than what i had tried in other place, but still good.

overall i would say it's a touch different from most thai restaurants i've tried although i must say it's definitely alright, good? yes, the portion wise is a little bit small for the price. however given that i'm not a big fan of thai food, and i only go for valuable meals, i would have to skip this one for most part, but definitely alright for taste.

Went there a few days ago because of the high ratings. My SO who goes to Thailand regularly could barely eat the food on the plate because the taste was just so bad. We ordered 6 dishes between the two of us because as soon as we tasted one, it was so bad we had to get another. The best thing about the restaurant was the satay chicken skewer. I was recommended a curry that was apparently good and the beef was hard as rock... barely edible.

Bob's is my local Thai place. Be warned-- they get very busy at the weekend for take out. Phone ahead as it can be an hour wait.

Bob is great, they have a coconut rice option which is always a bonus in my book.

The decor is minimal and basic, the food is always consistently good. The servers work hard and are always polite.

Prefer this location over the Broadway one.

After hearing about Bob Likes Thai Food and how this place does Thai food well, I decided to give this a shot. I got my standard dish affair Pad Thai. I always get this at every Thai place I go to. Also ordered this intriguing this i never heard of MIANG KHAM. It tasted sour, odd and sucked actually. The Pad Thai was good and the curry had a good portion. The water served had this odd taste to it. Finally the Fried rice was a bit salty and way too much pepper. Over all the food was good. Pretty standard Thai fair. Nice server and service.

Went there last Saturday, cannot say enough how friendly the staff are. The recommendations she made for the food were perfect! Wish we could have tried everything on the menu. This food was fresh and every dish we had was fabulous, I highly recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant was the closest that I've ever gotten to giving a solid 5.0 rating.

We got the green curry with coconut rice and the mango sticky rice. What a treat!! There's nothing bad I could say about these dishes.

The green curry was a bit spicy but so delicious. The coconut rice was a bit pricy for what was given, but it's a must if you get a curry imo!!

The highlight for me was the dessert. They're very particular with this dish, so only 3 of these dishes were available that day. I'm glad we got it because it was SO ADDICTING. Just sweet enough and so refreshing. It's only seasonal so I highly suggest getting it if you can!!!

Only reason I didn't give it a full 5 was because the coconut rice was a bit pricy. Also, the bathroom was a weird location. Kind of unkempt as well.

STILL, I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST!!!

Terrible service; after we were seated, we waited for five minutes and had to ask for a menu. The waitress gave us one menu to share between three people. After we have decided on our order and closed out menus, we waited for another good five to ten minutes for someone to take out order. When our food was given to us, the waitress made no eye contact and left briskly. After our first dish was given to us, we had to then wait for our plates and cutlery. The food was mediocre and the service was terrible.

After a successful shopping trip, Air Girl and I needed to refuel to shop some more. I’ve walked by the restaurant “Bob Likes Thai Food” many time before so we decided to give it a try! The entrance/waiting area is quite cute! A hand washing station and an old chest as table for magazine while patrons wait. I like the simple, clean and bright interior. It makes a warm, friendly ambiance I think in general. It also sets the tone that the food might be more of a fusion/modern twist of Thai food. Gotta wash those hands while you wait to be seated! Clean and tidy place Why a fork? The menu is typical of what one would see in a Thai restaurant (maybe except for the poutine). It is nice they have a lunch special menu. Both of us girls are planning a wedding so we are suffering from decision making fatigue. We just went for a simple decision on the lunch special. Air girl also got herself a Tom Yum Koong and a Iced Thai Milk Tea. We didn’t share anything as I am sti

Great food and service. Had a quick lunch, had the tomka gai soup which was a perfect size and very good with very fresh mushrooms and a great broth. Had the pad thai and it was very fesh with great noodles.

Very attentive service in a cozy room. I would definitely return.

Tuesday's Treat. We went to the restaurant on a Tuesday evening and it was fairly busy (always a good sign). The surroundings were basic, but that's fine. Strangely enough, the majority of our visit had reggae music playing in the background, which made for an eclectic ambiance during our meal... buy hey... we were there for the food. Dinner was delicious, the servers were friendly and a good time was had by all! The portions were generous, however, there wasn't anything left over to take home. It was simply too tasty to leave anything behind. I would certainly go back again.
Steve
While no effort was put into the decor or the portion size or the pricing, a tremendous effort was put into making me feel rushed and uncomfortable. I don't regret trying it, I just regret leaving a tip. And also trying it.

My favorite Thai in Vancouver. Maybe, as some have pointed out a little heavy handed with the sugar but that is easily remedied by asking for less sweet. The food is authentic and tasty.

I just came back from Thailand & was craving Thai food. so, i decided to check out this place. I had the pad thai & deep fried banana dessert. The pad thai with prawns was good but I wish there were a few more prawns. I absolutely hated the deep fried bananas! There was too much batter & not enough bananas. Plus, they had some weird fruit syrup on the vanilla ice cream which was disgusting. How can you go wrong with something deep fried??? Unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed. There are way better places out there. Check out sawasdee instead

I ate here today and the food was delicious. We ordered the fish and chips and the red curry. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We will be back for sure.

Tom Yum is Too Sweet. I usually make my own tom yum, but out of curiosity, when my husband treated me for dinner there I chose tom yum. I don't like the taste, it is too sweet, not salty and sour enough. Less shrimp and tons of mushroom. I travelled to north part of Malaysia which bordered with southern Thailand and tasted yummy tom yum. Same thing as in Krabi. I tasted one in Bangkok but it's not as good as the one in Krabi. Last one, different tom yum at Chiang Mai which is the north of Thailand, it's not hot spicy, instead they put milk inside. But none of them tasted sweet! I doubled check with my Thai friend who lived in Bangkok, she said, the taste of tom yum supposed to be hot-spicy-sour. So, I guess this restaurant should review their ingredient to make some changing.

Very disappointing food. Picked up from here for the first time and will not be back. Tiniest sate ever $4.50 for 2, runniest green curry we have had and the red duck curry was also very thin. Friendly staff but the food...?? So many better Thai places in Vancouver.
Nadine
Not good. I got the green curry. I got it to go and took about 30 minutes to get to it but it seemed to have curdled. Texture is weird and taste is mediocre. Really small portion. Will not be back.
Thai Girl
SMALL PORTIONS. Do not try the "TOM KA GAI soup; Broth of lemon grass infused coconut milk with chicken and mushrooms". it's very SOUR, i swear half the 'broth' is made of LIME juice! Tiny portions too! Thai fried rice was tasteless and disappointing. I only had 4 shrimps in my LARGE pad thai! Not really worth $11.50 - more like $6.00

Fantastic!!. Delicious & so fresh. Excellent service!!!

My favorite restaurant in Vancouver. I have eaten at Bob Likes Thai Food 7 times over the last year. I have never once eaten anything that was not delightfully scrumptious. The waiters are also very courteous and speedy. I've eaten at just about every Thai restaurant in Vancouver and Burnaby since 2006, and I must say that Bob Likes Thai serves the most authentic Thai food I have ever encountered. I also like the very relaxed setting, not too ritzy which is just my speed. If they ever close I will be very very upset.

Not great.... Had dinner here tonight. Looked like a clean restaurant and there were no offensive smells as we walked through the door. Server was friendly enough.
Prices seemed a little high for such a basic Thai place. Regardless, willing to pay whatever for good food.
$4- Spring Rolls. Acceptable other than line of old oil left behind once each half of the spring roll was picked up off the plate.
$4.50- 2 Chicken Satays the size of my pinky. Not kidding. Rubbery, tasteless, even the peanut sauce did not taste of peanuts.
$12- Pad Thai. I've made better at home.
$11?- Beef Curry. Soupy curry with rubbery, tasteless slivers of beef, maybe 1/2 cup.
All in all, not such an enjoyable dinner. When I complained to the cashier about the satays she looked at me as if I were some crazy person... Did not apologize, did not ask me if I wanted something else instead, did not take it off the bill. I don't believe good value for the money paid. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Mediocre thai food. Had the duck curry and it was mediocre at best but still enjoyed it and satisfied my craving for thai curry. The tom yum soup was the worst I have ever tasted. Completely disgusting I had to throw it away. It tasted like they dumped a bottle of vinegar in there and added some over cooked prawns. Will not return, there are so many other better thai restaurants.
No Dessert Im Full
Walking in im thinking this seems really "crack in the wall" thats ok i was kind if expecting that. Sawastee was full down the street and bobs seemed like the logical alternative being im in the mood for some thai. The menu looks alittle simplified and modern, went with the kao pow, a thai fried rice dish. A green currey dish, and the usual pad thai. All were good, havent thai in a while so its hard to compare, it was good though.
Tania
I used to think this place was awesome, but now the portions have shrunk & I've noticed if it's busy the food is not as great. The pad Thai was a bit sour and my eggplant dish was sitting in a pool of oil!!! Dishes shrunk but the price has not. Let me know if prices drop or dishes get bigger, then I'll try this place again.

Great Thai food in a low key setting. The owner is suet nice and cooks up auhentic Thai meals. The green papaya salad is a great starter. I've been 6+ times and haven't been disappointed with anything I've ordered. The desserts are tasty too.
Main Street
Best Thai food in Vancouver, a change from the usual. Just tried this place and was totally blown away by the delicious, fresh food served at a reasonable price. The restaurant is bright and does not go for the whole dark wood, thai music thing. They play reggae, have a clean and bright decor and a good vibe. We had the fish cakes, they were pretty much the best thing i've eaten in a while, the pad thai was amazing and the curry chicken was perfect. Service was good. I am quite fussy and felt that the ingredients were totally fresh. I will definitely go back.
Doug Dzzzzzzzz
We live in the area, walk by often, heard good reviews........ It was mediocre at best. I'll never be back it wasn't worth it. The person who said it was the best Thai food they've ever had? Oh please.

Too little for too much!!!. We went for lunch-and I must say the swimming rama was great. But the green papaya salad was miniscule-served on a small saucer; two skinny satay skewers-each with a sliver of meet weighting less than 20 grams, and overpriced small amounts of pad thai left us with a bill of 35 + dollars for a poor lunch. We were even charged double for tea (2 x 1.50) despite having one tea bag and no refills of hot water on offer.
About 2:40 the waitress put on her lovely beige ytrench coat and slapped her shoes back and forth in front of us. We did enter after 1:30, and were aware the restaurant closes at 3. So good food but overpriced and rude discourteous service. I don't recommend the place. Maenan has much better food, service, and prices. Skip this one.

Cute place, but needs some work. We went here for dinner about a month ago. It opens at around 6pm, I believe. It was quite empty when we were there (I think it was a Friday night).

The seating is a little uncomfortable, and there isn't much privacy (we sometimes felt like we were being watched a little too closely by the staff).

My friend had the green curry, and I had some sort of red curry special. We also ordered the spring rolls. Everything was good, but nothing that special. I think I would rather pay a little more for a better environment somewhere else. It felt kind of like a diner or a fast food restaurant.

Something to keep in mind: they only take cash. There's an ATM close by, but it's still a bit of a pain.
Anne
Pretty decent Thai food. I wish it was easier to find great Thai food in Vancouver, but it just doesn't seem to be Vancouver's best ethnic fare. Bob Likes Thai Food is pretty decent, maybe not the best Thai food I have ever had, but worth going back for. Service was great.

Bob likes Thai Food? We love Thai food. We ordered the cashew chicken and it was wonderful. Two people ate and it was only $15!!! It was busy and people were enjoying themselves. The only negative factor which my boyfriend says I must mention was that the water glasses were too small. So as long as you're not going there for the water you should check it out!

Yummy. Just had a delicious dinner here. The PORK PAD KA POW was a flavor explosion! My daughter went crazy for the spring rolls. We will definitely be back.

Pad like no other. I've only tried one item, the gauge that I use to see if a restaurant is authentic, ie. pad thai. Bob Likes Thai Food makes pad thai like how it is SUPPOSED to taste like in Thailand. I have lived in Bangkok and Pattaya for a short period and one bite, it took me back. I am rounding up my foodie troop and checking this place out very soon so that I can sample every item on their menu. Service was amazing as well. Warning: cashola only!

BOB NEEDS OUR SUPPORT. Despite everyone's love of this place, the owner (Tai) desperately needs our business. He is barely holding on, so if you want to keep enjoying his wonderful food, then get in there and eat!! Soon!!

No words!. Granted we've only tried the beef curry, tom yum goong and pad thai, it is seriously the best thai food I've had in Vancouver! Get their pad thai, it is life changing!
Rob
Great Thai Food Experience!. Bob's was great. The food's authentic & the atmosphere very laid back. The owner & staff are nice. No frills or fancy bow-ties needed; it's all about the food. Will visit monthly.

Fantastic Thai Food. We went for dinner after hearing about the restaurant from others. The food was excellent. Best Tom Ka Gai soup in the city hands down. Perfectly balanced. Also highly recommend the Penang Beef. But there's so many great dishes to try and I was too full to try them all. I'll definitely go back and recommend it to anyone who loves Thai food. The decor is clean and simple with a few nice artistic touches.

No frills, No fusss, PERFECT Pad Thai. No fuss , No frills - but guaranteed perfect PAD THAI.
I loved their PAD THAI. It was different from the typical PAD THAI you get from regular Thai restants in Vancover. It was REAL!! The sauce they used was just the right formula...... I would like to know the recipe but I suppose it is secret....
Also, I tried Papaya Salad as side dish. It was light, sour, spicy, and sweet, just a perfect combination!
Overall, I must say that the ingredients they use is so fresh and healthy!

I think this restauraust is perfect for having lunch/dinner by yourself when you are too lazy for cooking. The staffs there are friendly and casual, which makes you feel like you are at your friend's place.
Light funky back ground music could be nice as an improvement..... so it will add a touch of liveness in the air...

This restaurant is going to be my regular hang-out place.
CH
Absolutely loving it!!. What was I eating before in other places? I didn't know Thai Food can be soooo delicious. Felt really healthy because everything tasted fresh. The amount was also right. Just elegant sufficiency. The decor is minimal but it sounded like they are going to work on it little by little. Recommend to go there before this place becomes too famous!
Liza
Just had Thai at bob likes Thai food tonight and it was just DELICIOUS! The red curry beef, just delicious and so flavourful. I will definitely be going to this place again. Ate so much I couldn't move.... I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Haha!

My favorite new Thai restaurant. I finally found a favorite Thai restaurant in Vancouver. Cute name. Very original taste. My favorite dish is Eggplant Pad Kra Pow. Very...very yummy and the other one is Chicken Satay. Usually, you will find Pork Satay. But you can eat Chicken Satay here, it's different.
Most impressive is the owner very well mannered. I think cos of he's from Thailand.
LL
Excellent authentic Thai finally.... This place brought back fond memories of Thailand-- finally a place in Vancouver who serves up a pad Thai like they do in Thailand, none of this ketchup flavored crap! The papaya salad is made perfectly with just the right amount of heat and the pork kra pow is absolutely fantastic!! The ingredients are so fresh and the flavors are truly authentic. You can tell by talking to the well mannered Thai gentleman who runs the joint that he is very knowledgeable about his ingredients and Thai cooking techniques. This place is a hidden gem at the moment and I'm sure it will stick around the main st hood for a long long time.

New Favourite!. Cheap, great family run service, funny name and cute art. Oh did I mention that the food is AMAZING. Authentic style, all hand made fresh on premises. Highly recommend the Pad Thai and the Papaya Salad.

The bacon-wrapped lychee was an interesting appetizer but I would gladly take more of everything else. I can’t say enough good things of the taste of the Fish and Chips since it’s a cool idea and it’s awesome how they keep the crunch of the batter with a much less oily version of traditional fish and chips. This restaurant makes my top 3 if not favourite Thai place in Vancouver. Features: This is a medium-sized restaurant that seats about 60. With big windows facing the outside, you get a nice view of the regular Main Street bustle with popular stores like Front and Company just up the block. It’s cool that they use their name for purposes like suggesting you order a drink with your meal! Service: Service is pretty fast here. From sitting down to confirming our brunch crawl order, food started coming out in 10 minutes and was paced very well. Water service was frequent and the server gave us a nice explanation of all of the dishes. Thumbs up for accommodating our group of 8 as well. One-Liner: Quite possibly o

after my final exam LAST APRIL (yes, very behind) i met with my mom on main street for our first real thai food experience at bob likes thai food . they have really great lunch specials and in my opinion, delicious food. i've never had thai due to my peanut allergy and fear of contamination but this was so good that now, i will risk my wellbeing for deliciousness! green curry with chicken ($9): this lunch set came with a tiny salad and wonton crisps but the star was the curry. so delicious not being too creamy and packed with chicken i still think of this curry today. it was spicy but nothing past a mild-medium. 4.5/5 pad thai ($9): the REAL STAR OF THE DAY. this was so very very delicious. i had never had pad thai but the flavours were ohmygosh good. i read online that lots of restaurants use ketchup but this was NOT ketchup. i at least can taste that. and it was not clumpy or too wet either. it had a decent amount of shrimp, tofu and eggs and was a pretty big portion for lunch size! 5/5 maw-gang - taro root, coconut, egg and palm sugar ($3): wanting to end on a sweet note, we ordered dessert being adventurous and it was worth it. the maw gang tasted like a custard/pudding/jello but wasn't too sweet and had a creamy consistency but wasn't runny. the taste of coconut and egg were prominent to me (since I'm not sure what taro root tastes like) but this delicious and reminded me that i should try more new things in my food adventures! 4.5/5 maw-gang - taro root, coconut, egg and palm sugar ($3): wanting to end on a sweet note, we ordered dessert being adventurous and it was worth it. the maw gang tasted like a custard/pudding/jello but wasn't too sweet and had a creamy consistency but wasn't runny. the taste of coconut and egg were prominent to me (since I'm not sure what taro root tastes like) but this delicious and reminded me that i should try more new things in my food adventures! 4.5/5 overall: my first experience with thai food was an amazing one. it was d

Bob Likes Thai Food does a very authentic take on the Pad Thai. The noodles are made to perfection (al dente) along with prawns, bean sprouts, tofu bits and crushed peanuts, all with the slight tang from the tamarind sauce that whets the appetite. Our only complaint is that there were not many prawns in the dish, but overall we think that this is probably one of the better renditions of Pad Thai out there.
Long Live Feasts
I had no expectations set for Bob Likes Thai Food because frankly, I wasn’t too eager to stop at this location. The above is a picture of Tub Tim Krob and it contains: water chestnut, jackfruit, shredded coconut, tapioca flour, pomegranate, palm sugar, coconut milk, and thai traditional smoke bee hive. The coconut flavour was really potent and the pink jelly substance at the bottom reminded me of mochi but with water chestnut on the inside. The drink had a variety of textures and it was very refreshing for me because of the heat that day and lack of water in my system. Unfortunately, I am not the biggest fan of coconut and especially when it comes with coconut shreds. So, even though I had this, I wasn’t head over heels for it; it was simply to quench my thirst for the meantime.

The Thai food is delicious and there is no mistaking that the dishes are authentic and reasonably priced. Bob Likes Thai Food, to be called by any other name wouldn't smell as sweet.
Constant Cravings
It was comparable to HK style milk tea but a lot sweeter. The lady who served us said that they don’t use condensed milk in their version which is what is traditionally used I believe.

In the last week of November, my uncle decided to visit from Korea–for something like five days. That sounds short (and it was), but maybe you’ll see it in a different light once I reveal that he’s a flight attendant. The life of a flight attendant is quite tiring, as you can imagine, and he really just came to get some rest. Still, since it’s not like we see him everyday, we wanted to take him somewhere nice for dinner, although it wasn’t like we could introduce him to some brand new cuisine, since he’s travelled most of the world already. I did have a coupon for Tropika from ChineseBites , but my parents weren’t convinced when I mentioned Tropika is Chinese-run. Still, it got us thinking about the possibility of Southeast Asian food, and we ended up driving out to Bob Likes Thai Food, serving up (relatively) authentic Thai food on Main Street. In comparison to Korean and Japanese food, I don’t have as tight a grasp on Thai food, and I was glad to have my uncle with us. Bangkok is one

On the right side of the plate was the Kanom Jeen, a green curry chicken over rice noodles. I really enjoyed the heat from the chili and the fresh crunch of raw veggies. However, it was a tad too sweet.

....Pad Thai , my favorite of the meal. The fried rice noodles were cooked to a perfect bite and tossed with prawns, tofu, peanuts, egg, bean sprouts and chives. In terms of taste, it was initially sweet followed by a tangy flavour from the tamarind. Yum! The Roasted Duck Red Curry was the last dish ordered by my boyfriend. According to the menu, it is a "coconut milk based red curry with roasted duck, basil, lychee, tomato, pineapple and bamboo

The som tam was really nice! Sour, nicely spiced. It was actually a lot less spicy than the last time I was here, which I’m guessing is due to customer complaints. I think som tam should be one of those dishes that drenches you in sweat from the spice level.

Kem and I shared the two curries. The first one was panang beef ($7.50), which is a "coconut milk based red curry with beef, basil, bell peppers". This was pretty good. I liked the taste of the curry, though it got spicier and spicier after. I'm not that good with spicy! (Buddha Girl and Gloria would know!) And I'm not very good at describing spicy foods so onto the other stuff! The beef wasn't that great, though Kem preferred it over the chicken. To me, it was a bit over-tenderized using baking soda. But they were still not bad considering I almost refuse to eat the stir-fried ones at Chinese restaurants.

The thing that I like about restaurants with unambiguous names is you don’t have to guess what kind of food they serve. Take, for example, Bob Like Thai Food on Main Street… it’s a pretty good bet that they serve Thai food.

I love Thai food. On a mellow Saturday night with the sous chef, we were debating on cooking or going out for dinner. We decided to head out and then after reviewing options, the Sous Chef decided he was in the mood for Thai.

Bob Likes Thai Food is located on the corner of Main and 22nd Street across from Front & Company - serves authentic Thai cooking outside of Thailand. The restaurant is unpretentious and offers exceptional value. The décor is simple but clean.

After reading various reviews , I was really interested in finding out more about this humble Thai restaurant that has been creating quite a buzz in the city. Located on Main street, Bob Likes Thai Food has a very laid back ambience and was really busy when we came in. We asked the Thai server what she would recommend. We even spoke to her in Thai when we wanted to let them know not to be shy and they can do the seasoning straight up fiery Thai style. She said everything on the menu was delicious. Wow, the confidence. Thus, we accepted the challenge. For starter, we ordered Pla Kung , which is a Thai shrimp salad. Normally the shrimp is served raw or half cooked, similar to Japanese amebi or sweet shrimp, and heavily dressed with garlic, lime, chili and fish sauce. I guess it's also very similar to shrimp ceviche. Bob's Pla Kung was a bit of a fusion salad with cooked shrimp, red peppers, cashews, and coconut shavings. The dressing and components were quite tasty, but the

Their food is decent and price is pretty good for dinner too but I have to say the portion is not that big.

Always looking for good thai food, we decided to try out this new Vancouver spot. A small but cute location on Main Street, it has cheap lunch specials that are essential to any thai place. We ordered the pad thai and yellow curry to share. Both dishes were good, with a nice kick of spice to them, that some places are too timid to give you. We say bring on the spice! Bob's also offers gluten free menu options, even though a lot of thai food is naturally gluten free. A great pick for lunch if you are in the

The funny name aside, the food really was quite good. I liked the Pad Thai and the fish curry was pretty decent as well. The best...

If it was called Chaiyaanuntchanipornsupaporn Likes Thai Food, I maybe more convinced, but with a name like "Bob Likes Thai Food" it was still pretty good and legit!

The dishes at this little spot hidden along Main Street is decent but found the dishes on the small side for the price. It’s still nice to see a Thai place that slightly steps out of the comfort zone of ’safe’ Thai food. I do wish there were more Thai restaurants that cooks up dishes that really blends freshness, savoury, umami, and enough heat to burn your stomach inside out.

Both the company and the meal was memorable. I would like to see some of these dishes added to their regular menu once they are fine tuned. Overall I recommend Bob Likes Thai Food for a welcome change to the mundane world of Thai cuisine in Vancouver.

No, this restaurant is not a white man’s take on Thai cuisine. Bob Likes Thai Food is actually run by a Mr. Tai Keattivanichvily, and seems to have got its name as randomly as I got mine (for those wondering, I was wearing a red tie/white shirt get-up for work once, and combined with my shaved head a coworker said I looked like Hitman from the movie/game. Wendy agreed, but that sounded too menacing for the blog so I added a Howdy at the end based on WordPress’s dashboard greeting, which I was viewing at the time. Random!).

There has been a bit of hype on Bob Likes Thai Food, a new Thai restaurant, which makes "traditional"/"authentic" Thai food.
Noshwell
Bob Likes Thai Food fits very comfortably in the burgeoning Main Street neighbourhood: the whimsical yet enigmatic name; the hand crafted artwork; and the simple menu filled with all of Bob's favourite Thai dishes. Who in blazes is this Bob guy anyway?

Authenticity is perhaps the biggest lightning rod when it comes to fodder amongst hardcore food enthusiasts, especially for those online. It's an odd criteria, a subjective crystallization of a certain trope of a certain group at a certain locale at a certain time, a tall benchmark that gets zealously applied, particularly when speaking of ethnic restaurants. The best compliment that any ethnic restaurant can receive? It was authentic . Such was the online discussion about Bob Likes Thai Food, a relatively
