Every dish we tried was soooo good! It wasn’t busy when we went either (a Wednesday). The restaurant is a bit plain in terms of the decorations but the food makes up for it!
Everything here was ridiculously salty. The food would have been really great but it was so hard for us to finish everything just because of the salt. Other than that, the space was clean and welcoming. I think Bob makes my favourite Thai milk tea!
This was my backup Thai place as the other one I tried was full. This ending up having spectacular food and the décor was awesome. The service was fast and prompt even though there was a slight wait to get in due to its awesomeness.
Great service, fantastic food! Phad Thai and green curry were hefty portions! Will most Defintley be back here when we return to the area! .
This was plan B for a Thai take out night and it worked out well!
Did take-out, for the two of us and a 20 minute wait. 36$ tax all-in (2 jasmine rice servings, 1 panang curry and 1 red curry) was average price I would say. There was plenty of leftovers which I always love! Generous with the meat in the dish and the sauces were yummy.
The lady on the phone was super helpful in making food recommendations and they cared about ensuring good customer service.
We did ask for super spicy and it wasn't that hot... so that was the only con to all the other pros.
I'd come back, but wouldn't rush back. So far this was our second Thai restaurent experience in Vancouver so will definitely keep it in mind after trying out the competition! :)
Went with a group of friends for dinner. Had the Pad Thai and requested medium spicy level. It had an excellent kick plenty of ingredients. The noodle was bit too chewy when it arrived I think it was just because it was made quite fast after awhile it was fine. Also had the chicken Satay it was very soft and flavourful on its own. There are a lot of items to try on the menu so I will definitely be back. Thai Milk Iced Tea was excellent balance of tea taste and sweetness.
Went for dinner today and got their Thai green curry chicken, ginger beef, and their pad thai. Asking them to make things peanut free was easy as can be, and everything was delicious. The beef was a little tough, but not bad. It's hard to pick my favourite between the curry and the pad thai...
Can you tell how much I adore thai food? I think I have made searching out for the best and most authentic thai food in Vancouver a goal for 2016. Am I near completion? Have I found the one? I think Bob Likes Thai Food is coming up quite close! Serving up northern Thai cuisine, Bob takes you on a journey that marries dishes around the world with thai flavours.
Love this place! It's a cute little restaurant on Main. Went here before the afternoon closing time, so there was no wait. Not sure how busy it gets during peak hours, but call in advance as there's very limited seating.
Food is delicious, I've tried the pad Thai, massaman curry, and the "poutine" - love it all! Will definitely come back.
Bob's is my local Thai place. Be warned-- they get very busy at the weekend for take out. Phone ahead as it can be an hour wait.
Bob is great, they have a coconut rice option which is always a bonus in my book.
The decor is minimal and basic, the food is always consistently good. The servers work hard and are always polite.
Prefer this location over the Broadway one.
Went there last Saturday, cannot say enough how friendly the staff are. The recommendations she made for the food were perfect! Wish we could have tried everything on the menu. This food was fresh and every dish we had was fabulous, I highly recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant was the closest that I've ever gotten to giving a solid 5.0 rating.
We got the green curry with coconut rice and the mango sticky rice. What a treat!! There's nothing bad I could say about these dishes.
The green curry was a bit spicy but so delicious. The coconut rice was a bit pricy for what was given, but it's a must if you get a curry imo!!
The highlight for me was the dessert. They're very particular with this dish, so only 3 of these dishes were available that day. I'm glad we got it because it was SO ADDICTING. Just sweet enough and so refreshing. It's only seasonal so I highly suggest getting it if you can!!!
Only reason I didn't give it a full 5 was because the coconut rice was a bit pricy. Also, the bathroom was a weird location. Kind of unkempt as well.
STILL, I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST!!!
Great food and service. Had a quick lunch, had the tomka gai soup which was a perfect size and very good with very fresh mushrooms and a great broth. Had the pad thai and it was very fesh with great noodles.
Very attentive service in a cozy room. I would definitely return.
Tuesday's Treat. We went to the restaurant on a Tuesday evening and it was fairly busy (always a good sign). The surroundings were basic, but that's fine. Strangely enough, the majority of our visit had reggae music playing in the background, which made for an eclectic ambiance during our meal... buy hey... we were there for the food. Dinner was delicious, the servers were friendly and a good time was had by all! The portions were generous, however, there wasn't anything left over to take home. It was simply too tasty to leave anything behind. I would certainly go back again.
My favorite Thai in Vancouver. Maybe, as some have pointed out a little heavy handed with the sugar but that is easily remedied by asking for less sweet. The food is authentic and tasty.
I ate here today and the food was delicious. We ordered the fish and chips and the red curry. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We will be back for sure.
Fantastic!!. Delicious & so fresh. Excellent service!!!
My favorite restaurant in Vancouver. I have eaten at Bob Likes Thai Food 7 times over the last year. I have never once eaten anything that was not delightfully scrumptious. The waiters are also very courteous and speedy. I've eaten at just about every Thai restaurant in Vancouver and Burnaby since 2006, and I must say that Bob Likes Thai serves the most authentic Thai food I have ever encountered. I also like the very relaxed setting, not too ritzy which is just my speed. If they ever close I will be very very upset.
Walking in im thinking this seems really "crack in the wall" thats ok i was kind if expecting that. Sawastee was full down the street and bobs seemed like the logical alternative being im in the mood for some thai. The menu looks alittle simplified and modern, went with the kao pow, a thai fried rice dish. A green currey dish, and the usual pad thai. All were good, havent thai in a while so its hard to compare, it was good though.
Great Thai food in a low key setting. The owner is suet nice and cooks up auhentic Thai meals. The green papaya salad is a great starter. I've been 6+ times and haven't been disappointed with anything I've ordered. The desserts are tasty too.
Pretty decent Thai food. I wish it was easier to find great Thai food in Vancouver, but it just doesn't seem to be Vancouver's best ethnic fare. Bob Likes Thai Food is pretty decent, maybe not the best Thai food I have ever had, but worth going back for. Service was great.
Bob likes Thai Food? We love Thai food. We ordered the cashew chicken and it was wonderful. Two people ate and it was only $15!!! It was busy and people were enjoying themselves. The only negative factor which my boyfriend says I must mention was that the water glasses were too small. So as long as you're not going there for the water you should check it out!
Yummy. Just had a delicious dinner here. The PORK PAD KA POW was a flavor explosion! My daughter went crazy for the spring rolls. We will definitely be back.
Pad like no other. I've only tried one item, the gauge that I use to see if a restaurant is authentic, ie. pad thai. Bob Likes Thai Food makes pad thai like how it is SUPPOSED to taste like in Thailand. I have lived in Bangkok and Pattaya for a short period and one bite, it took me back. I am rounding up my foodie troop and checking this place out very soon so that I can sample every item on their menu. Service was amazing as well. Warning: cashola only!
Great Thai Food Experience!. Bob's was great. The food's authentic & the atmosphere very laid back. The owner & staff are nice. No frills or fancy bow-ties needed; it's all about the food. Will visit monthly.
Fantastic Thai Food. We went for dinner after hearing about the restaurant from others. The food was excellent. Best Tom Ka Gai soup in the city hands down. Perfectly balanced. Also highly recommend the Penang Beef. But there's so many great dishes to try and I was too full to try them all. I'll definitely go back and recommend it to anyone who loves Thai food. The decor is clean and simple with a few nice artistic touches.
Absolutely loving it!!. What was I eating before in other places? I didn't know Thai Food can be soooo delicious. Felt really healthy because everything tasted fresh. The amount was also right. Just elegant sufficiency. The decor is minimal but it sounded like they are going to work on it little by little. Recommend to go there before this place becomes too famous!
Just had Thai at bob likes Thai food tonight and it was just DELICIOUS! The red curry beef, just delicious and so flavourful. I will definitely be going to this place again. Ate so much I couldn't move.... I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Haha!
My favorite new Thai restaurant. I finally found a favorite Thai restaurant in Vancouver. Cute name. Very original taste. My favorite dish is Eggplant Pad Kra Pow. Very...very yummy and the other one is Chicken Satay. Usually, you will find Pork Satay. But you can eat Chicken Satay here, it's different.
Most impressive is the owner very well mannered. I think cos of he's from Thailand.
Excellent authentic Thai finally.... This place brought back fond memories of Thailand-- finally a place in Vancouver who serves up a pad Thai like they do in Thailand, none of this ketchup flavored crap! The papaya salad is made perfectly with just the right amount of heat and the pork kra pow is absolutely fantastic!! The ingredients are so fresh and the flavors are truly authentic. You can tell by talking to the well mannered Thai gentleman who runs the joint that he is very knowledgeable about his ingredients and Thai cooking techniques. This place is a hidden gem at the moment and I'm sure it will stick around the main st hood for a long long time.
New Favourite!. Cheap, great family run service, funny name and cute art. Oh did I mention that the food is AMAZING. Authentic style, all hand made fresh on premises. Highly recommend the Pad Thai and the Papaya Salad.
BEST THAI FOOD!. This place just opened , and it is FANTASTIC!!! the food is awesome and fresh, all hand made right there, and it's ALL under 10 bucks! I have the Papaya salad, my fav, the green curry chicken sooo delicious and creamy , the chicken squers with Delicious peanut sauce! YUM and another dish I can't remember, we were Stuffed for $15 bucks! I have to go back, I never had such quality Thai food before, TRY IT
The bacon-wrapped lychee was an interesting appetizer but I would gladly take more of everything else. I can’t say enough good things of the taste of the Fish and Chips since it’s a cool idea and it’s awesome how they keep the crunch of the batter with a much less oily version of traditional fish and chips. This restaurant makes my top 3 if not favourite Thai place in Vancouver. Features: This is a medium-sized restaurant that seats about 60. With big windows facing the outside, you get a nice view of the regular Main Street bustle with popular stores like Front and Company just up the block. It’s cool that they use their name for purposes like suggesting you order a drink with your meal! Service: Service is pretty fast here. From sitting down to confirming our brunch crawl order, food started coming out in 10 minutes and was paced very well. Water service was frequent and the server gave us a nice explanation of all of the dishes. Thumbs up for accommodating our group of 8 as well. One-Liner: Quite possibly o
after my final exam LAST APRIL (yes, very behind) i met with my mom on main street for our first real thai food experience at bob likes thai food . they have really great lunch specials and in my opinion, delicious food. i've never had thai due to my peanut allergy and fear of contamination but this was so good that now, i will risk my wellbeing for deliciousness! green curry with chicken ($9): this lunch set came with a tiny salad and wonton crisps but the star was the curry. so delicious not being too creamy and packed with chicken i still think of this curry today. it was spicy but nothing past a mild-medium. 4.5/5 pad thai ($9): the REAL STAR OF THE DAY. this was so very very delicious. i had never had pad thai but the flavours were ohmygosh good. i read online that lots of restaurants use ketchup but this was NOT ketchup. i at least can taste that. and it was not clumpy or too wet either. it had a decent amount of shrimp, tofu and eggs and was a pretty big portion for lunch size! 5/5 maw-gang - taro root, coconut, egg and palm sugar ($3): wanting to end on a sweet note, we ordered dessert being adventurous and it was worth it. the maw gang tasted like a custard/pudding/jello but wasn't too sweet and had a creamy consistency but wasn't runny. the taste of coconut and egg were prominent to me (since I'm not sure what taro root tastes like) but this delicious and reminded me that i should try more new things in my food adventures! 4.5/5 maw-gang - taro root, coconut, egg and palm sugar ($3): wanting to end on a sweet note, we ordered dessert being adventurous and it was worth it. the maw gang tasted like a custard/pudding/jello but wasn't too sweet and had a creamy consistency but wasn't runny. the taste of coconut and egg were prominent to me (since I'm not sure what taro root tastes like) but this delicious and reminded me that i should try more new things in my food adventures! 4.5/5 overall: my first experience with thai food was an amazing one. it was d
The Thai food is delicious and there is no mistaking that the dishes are authentic and reasonably priced. Bob Likes Thai Food, to be called by any other name wouldn't smell as sweet.
In the last week of November, my uncle decided to visit from Korea–for something like five days. That sounds short (and it was), but maybe you’ll see it in a different light once I reveal that he’s a flight attendant. The life of a flight attendant is quite tiring, as you can imagine, and he really just came to get some rest. Still, since it’s not like we see him everyday, we wanted to take him somewhere nice for dinner, although it wasn’t like we could introduce him to some brand new cuisine, since he’s travelled most of the world already. I did have a coupon for Tropika from ChineseBites , but my parents weren’t convinced when I mentioned Tropika is Chinese-run. Still, it got us thinking about the possibility of Southeast Asian food, and we ended up driving out to Bob Likes Thai Food, serving up (relatively) authentic Thai food on Main Street. In comparison to Korean and Japanese food, I don’t have as tight a grasp on Thai food, and I was glad to have my uncle with us. Bangkok is one
....Pad Thai , my favorite of the meal. The fried rice noodles were cooked to a perfect bite and tossed with prawns, tofu, peanuts, egg, bean sprouts and chives. In terms of taste, it was initially sweet followed by a tangy flavour from the tamarind. Yum! The Roasted Duck Red Curry was the last dish ordered by my boyfriend. According to the menu, it is a "coconut milk based red curry with roasted duck, basil, lychee, tomato, pineapple and bamboo
The som tam was really nice! Sour, nicely spiced. It was actually a lot less spicy than the last time I was here, which I’m guessing is due to customer complaints. I think som tam should be one of those dishes that drenches you in sweat from the spice level.
Kem and I shared the two curries. The first one was panang beef ($7.50), which is a "coconut milk based red curry with beef, basil, bell peppers". This was pretty good. I liked the taste of the curry, though it got spicier and spicier after. I'm not that good with spicy! (Buddha Girl and Gloria would know!) And I'm not very good at describing spicy foods so onto the other stuff! The beef wasn't that great, though Kem preferred it over the chicken. To me, it was a bit over-tenderized using baking soda. But they were still not bad considering I almost refuse to eat the stir-fried ones at Chinese restaurants.
Bob Likes Thai Food is located on the corner of Main and 22nd Street across from Front & Company - serves authentic Thai cooking outside of Thailand. The restaurant is unpretentious and offers exceptional value. The décor is simple but clean.
Bo Likes Thai Food's assembly line of food proction.
Gluten Free Guinea Pig
+4.5
Always looking for good thai food, we decided to try out this new Vancouver spot. A small but cute location on Main Street, it has cheap lunch specials that are essential to any thai place. We ordered the pad thai and yellow curry to share. Both dishes were good, with a nice kick of spice to them, that some places are too timid to give you. We say bring on the spice! Bob's also offers gluten free menu options, even though a lot of thai food is naturally gluten free. A great pick for lunch if you are in the
Both the company and the meal was memorable. I would like to see some of these dishes added to their regular menu once they are fine tuned. Overall I recommend Bob Likes Thai Food for a welcome change to the mundane world of Thai cuisine in Vancouver.
No, this restaurant is not a white man’s take on Thai cuisine. Bob Likes Thai Food is actually run by a Mr. Tai Keattivanichvily, and seems to have got its name as randomly as I got mine (for those wondering, I was wearing a red tie/white shirt get-up for work once, and combined with my shaved head a coworker said I looked like Hitman from the movie/game. Wendy agreed, but that sounded too menacing for the blog so I added a Howdy at the end based on WordPress’s dashboard greeting, which I was viewing at the time. Random!).
Bob Likes Thai Food fits very comfortably in the burgeoning Main Street neighbourhood: the whimsical yet enigmatic name; the hand crafted artwork; and the simple menu filled with all of Bob's favourite Thai dishes. Who in blazes is this Bob guy anyway?
Opted to order the "Something" which was a great decision. Giving the chef's the opportunity to cook what they want is a win win for everyone involved. This time, it was a Peking duck style pork belly - which was fantastic. My friends opted for a noodle dish and the massaman curry. Both were flavorful and filling. While all the food was great - the service was the real standout. Everyone was friendly and charming. The banter from one specific server elevated the experience entirely. Altogether, can't recommend it enough.
Super delicious Thai food! We got the green curry chicken and their poutine which is taro chips smothered in green curry sauce and little chunks of fried tofu. Everything was seasoned well and full of flavor. Thai milk tea was rich and not watered down as well. Service was attentive. Will come back to try other dishes!
The Thai restaurant is really authentic.
⭐️Delicious: recommended shrimp salad, fried tofu must be ordered
⭐️Service: The service staff is very attentive, will not give you pressure, make people enjoy and comfortable
⭐️Environment: clean and comfortable! Easy parking
Ate at the restaurant not long ago, unfortunately, a lot of things we wanted to try were sold out or not available (we sat down early too, like 5pm). It's not the most comfortable restaurant, but the food's pretty good. We ordered from them again, this time for delivery, and seriously their DRUNKEN NOODLES are noms. Will go back just for that dish.
