Went there for brunch with friends on Sunday. Amazing food and great service! Highly recommend.
Excellent food and wine and amazing service! I feel blessed this place is so close to my home ;)
I went there to celebrate birthday dinner with best friend and we only ordered few appetizers and our favorite cheese fondue. The service was very good and we love cheese fondue and will go back again for sure. Must try their appetizers such as escargot and scallops!!
The French Table is a classic French bistro that’s located on Main Street in Vancouver. Prior to opening The French Table, owner Herve Martin had run the long-standing Hermitage on Robson Street for 24 years. We stopped by in late March for dinner. One side of the restaurant appears to be a bit more open and brighter than the other side but we wound up near the back where the lighting is much dimmer (hence the dark pictures).
The owner is passionate about his cuisine and his restaurant :) Great food and friendly people there! I've been there twice, both time having their Burgundy Fondue.... soooooo good!!! :D The wine soup base tastes excellent and the 5 different sauces are awesome, superior, marvelous! They are 1) Mayo, 2) Tomato Cognac Cream, 3) Soya Ginger, 4) Garlic Pesto, 5) Tarragon Pepper Cream!!!! Some herbs are grown by the owner himself!
I thought the menu, wait staff, and food was good. There was no fuss and the food was what you'd hope for from honest french cuisine. Above all, the restaurant was not noisy - we could converse and savour food at the same time.
This place is great!! Good food and the owner or server was just so kind and lovely. You can tell that they really care about what they're doing there.
I went here for my mother-in-law's birthday on a Sunday night and must say I was extremely impressed by both the food and the service! We had a reservation for 7:00 and didn't leave until 10 (we were the last ones there as we were a decently large group) and the waiters were fantastic about not rushing us. I had the baked steelhead salmon which was delicious! They even brought out a special birthday cake with a Roman candle! The menu was a bit pricey but I would say totally worth it!
Went here with a friend. Saw them working on the restaurant for a few months, took me a while to check it out. Food was flavourful, and satisfying. The staff are your regular friendly types. Wanted to chat with the owner but I think it was his day off. Menus make sense. I didn't like the decor, but it suited the place. If your complaining about money, then please stay at home.
Perfect french bistro. We were a party of 8 on the 29th. Everything about this restaurant was excellent. The service was professional and friendly, our waiter was very good. The food was delicious and between 8 people almost every choice was different so there was a broad cross section of food, everyone thought it was delicious. We had the terrine, the chantrelle soup,a salad and charcuterie for appetizers. The main courses were the steelhead salmon, flank steak, new york steak, mussells and cassoulet, dessert was the espresso creme brule, crepes, chocolate mousse. Delicous.Great atmosphere and we would definitely go back.
I don't get the grumpy reviews. It's a fancy French restaurant and the food is superb. Of course it's not cheap; of course the wait staff are attentive. As for the list of beautiful BC wines -- who thinks that's a bad thing?? I loved this place and will return.
Love this restaurant!. Went for brunch today, it was fabulous. i used to go to Herve Martin's old restaurant on robson street, the french table on main was a funner, younger, version of L'hermitage. This morning i went with my brother and his friend for an early brunch, i had the Pain perdue, my brother had the eggs benny, and his friend the garden omelet
We all kinda of shared the plates, the sizes were good, filling and rich. the food was delicious!!!! honestly will be back sometime this week, i recomend the eggs benny and the pain perdue! the omelet was good too, except my brothers friend has weird taste and asked for lots of exrta veggies inside..
i recommend u all going!! the atmosphere is nice, and the waiters are so french and funny. gotta love herve's new restaurantr!
We came in on Sunday Feb 13 with the anticipation of the Valentine's Day set menu. Long story short, there was a miscommunication between Herve and I and we couldn't get the Valentine's Day set menu as it was only offered for Monday Feb 14th only.
A bit disappointed for us at first because we had our hopes up and had cancelled a previous reservation to be at the French Table. Let me share with you how thoughtful, kind, and considerate Herve was to us; above and beyond. Because the Feb 14 menu was not ready, Herve offered us some of the items that were ready. He did not have to do that but I truly appreciate and recognize the effort he made to try to compromise. In the end, the Feb 14 items and regular menu did not catch our appetites but luckily for us, the French Table were offering specials that night.
For appetizers, we had the French Onion soup and the scallops for starters. Hearty broth and gooey cheese with each bite. As for drinks, we had a glass of house red and white wine.
For the mains, we had the Pan-seared skirt steak with paprika butter sauce and the Beef Wellington. Oh my goodness, it was the best; cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths. My partner shared a piece of her Beef Wellington with me and later regretted giving me too big of a piece.
For dessert, we had the Tart Tartin and the Creme Caramel. Nice, light, and not too sweet to finish off.
It was a blessing in disguise. We had a fantastic Valentine's day dinner and couldn't be happier; until Herve topped it off even more that night. Due to the miscommunication of the Feb 14th menu, Herve came by to our table to express his sincerity and apologies of the situation and personally handed us his homemade Blackcurrant jam from his farm in Aldergrove. How sweet is this guy?
We left the French Table that night with our bellies and hearts full.
The one thing I request of Herve is to share when his team will make the Beef Wellington and Skirt steak specials again because we are definitely coming back!
Herve, you are an awesome, knowledgeable, kind, and considerate owner.
Thank you so much!
We had brunch here. We ordered the Benedict eggs, ham for me and smoked salmon for my friend. The hollandaise sauce was great and the eggs perfectly cooked. I took one star off because we found that the sauteed potatoes were too greasy and would have appreciated a more generous plate.
We will probably come back to try the dinner menu.
French Table offers relatively less common dishes.
Sweet bread appetizer was interesting... as it tasted like chicken to me.
Calf liver with onions and bacon was satisfying filling.
Had a lovely Sunday brunch here. Very relaxing as the place is quiet and not too busy. Excellent services and delicious food. Onion soup is very authentic. However, the waffles are a little too soft and chewy for our likings.
We came here for the first time and we were impressed. I felt like I was dining at a Parisian restaurant with delicious traditional French dishes. Everyone was impressed with the food. For starters, we had French onion soup & seared scallops. A couple of us ordered the frites and mussels and the rest had steak and calf liver. The meal ended with to die for desserts - pear almond tart, chocolate profiterole and crème brulee. They offer a great selection of wine, menu items, and fondues. The must order dishes are onion soup, frites and mussels, and chocolate profiteroles!
We dined on a week night and found they only offered two sittings that night. A tip: make reservations and save room for dessert! They offer brunch, lunch, and dinner hours. If you want affordable and delish authentic French food, French Table is the place.
Had a wonderful meal at the French Table, service was good anda house family wine was top notch. Casual elegance.
Very memorable visit. Beautiful Parisian café style decor and lots of care taken on the food. I went for brunch and had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon. Classic done right. Chef came out to check on us and let us know that the owner actually grows all of their produce himself! He chatted with us for awhile and then brought us some freshly made chicken liver mousse on the house. Can't recommend these guys enough, fantastic hospitality and I look forward to trying the dinner menu!
