This was in my neighbourhood growing up, how can I not rate it a 5? I remember being a kid and watching a bunch of punk rock / heavy metal kids hanging out outside and I thought that was so cool. The first time I stepped inside, I was in love. There's writing all of the walls. The booth seats are sticky. And the food is crazy cheap. What's not to like? Something I think is really cool about this place is that it feels like a time capsule to me. It's like stepping back into the early 90s. Love it.
Lets start with the positives- their food. Been here twice and both times, I ordered the breakfast special. Good food both times, so much food for the price of it. Staff, however, can be inattentive. The guy on the counter at one point was also a little bit rude. Since they’re usually pretty crowded, the second time I was here, it was also fairly crowded and my group waited outside the restaurant. By the time someone told us that they had called our name out, the guy at the counter hissed back saying ‘wait, i called you but no one answered so now wait’
3.7. What can we add that hasn't already been said? You aren't coming to Bon's for service and ambiance, you are coming for the excellent value for big portions! You cannot complain about the price. We would recommend and would return.
Bon's Off Broadway is located on EastVan neighbourhood. It's on Nanaimo and East Broadway.
I never thought I can find such a cheap dinning in Vancouver. They have All Day Breakfast. Their All Day breakfast for $2.95, A Slice of Pancake for $2, A Coffee for $1.25 with self-refill 🍳🥞☕️. I find this place by reading an article "101 things to eat and drink in Vancouver before you die".
I would say it is the cheapest breakfast in town. Please let me know if you can find a lower price. You seriously cannot complain for the price. You cannot get a deal like this even at MacDonald.
This is definitely a unique place. I feel having a hipster brunch experience with graffiti on the walls and furniture.
Food: 🍽🍽🍽Can Try! (It's fun to try it.)
Service: 👩🍳👩🍳
Price: 1/2 💲
這家位於溫哥華Broadway和Nanaimo街角的餐廳Bon's Off Broadway被網友列入溫哥華死前必吃清單內【101 things to eat and drink in Vancouver before you die】,名單開列出101種一定要吃的溫哥華美食,否則你簡直白白生活在溫哥華!
All Day Breakfast $2.95 (Two eggs with Ham or Sausages served with Pan-Fried Potato & Brown or White Toast) ~ 賣相一般而且比較油膩,但勝在用料不差及味道不錯,價錢也超平宜,真擔心店家會否蝕本。即使如此,店家已經營多年而這份早餐的價錢亦幾乎未加過
Good, cheap breakfast that surely hit the spot. There might be a price increase? Had the $2.95 all day breakfast (2 eggs/bacon/toast/hash) & coffee. Maybe they charge extra for the bacon or coffee has gone up from $1.00? The bill came to $5.20 (not a huge deal), but was just wondering if others have similar experience or noticed that too?
Growing up only blocks away from bons I've been a patron since 2000. I can honestly say this place has not changed a bit. Maybe except not seeing Bon greeting you at the door anymore. Busy line ups, self serve coffee and water and of course cheap breakfast for $2.95! Which you can see in the picture (choice of meat was ham instead of bacon or sausage). Don't expect top notch cleanliness.. the walls are filled with graffiti and floors are carpeted (unchanged since I can remember)
Friendly service. Atmosphere is like laid back and kinda different. Food is good and eggs made perfectly. Not too greasy (unlike Denny's). Can't go wrong for $2.99 all day breakfast food.
Not sure what diners expect when they go to a truck stop like Bons off Broadway. The place is eclectic. It is NOT fine dining. We found the service was quick, the look unusual and clean. We order the all day breakfast special for $2.95. Two eggs done to perfection, a pile of hash browns, ham and toast. Perfectly brewed fresh coffee for $1.00 a cup. Two 12" pancakes for $4.00. Our waitress, Jessica, was exceptional. Place was packed. We had a seat in less than three minutes, we ordered and were served in less than five minutes. Even though she was run off her feet she took time to make sure we were well served and explained the lunch menu. Definitely would recommend Bons Off Broadway. Stuff shirts this is not your type of cafe.
i trully believe if there's one place that you must go in vancouver, as a vancouverite this is one of the holy grail for food in vancouver.
went here when i was heading to downtown, heard about the place a couple times, and went here because i was looking for a cheaper food to just devour. and well 2.95 breakfast... wow, even toonie tuesday is around this price as well.
found a parking spot nearby the area and went in, the place inside is rather retro, and very very old diner type, there's also a jukebox when you enter and the wall are posters and graffitti that you can't even add more unto it. as for the food, me and my friend ordered the 2 breakfasts and with 3 layers of pancake as well :DDD all with meat and sunny side up eggs, oh man everything for $20 ish... and we were full. and we're the type who ate a lot, remind you i usually ate large bowl of pho with sandwhich and finish the soup as well, that's usually normal lunch for me. and that time i was a little bit hungrier than usual. so i must say it's very very very worth the price of the portion you're getting here. i like the potatoes as well they are ful potates not like fastfood type of fries.
as for the quality of the food it's indeed greasy/buttery. but at the same time that's what makes all kinds of food tastes way better as well. cheapest cheat day ever and was satisfied. coffee and tea/hot water is self served, and definitely a must go for me now. for the price and quantity of the food, it's definitely no one can beat it so far, quality wise is definitely better than what a $3 can give you at all the places that i've been in vancouver, which makes me wonder how much earning does those simple brunch places are earning :0
I think I may just be the last person that has heard of and tried this place! Advertising its unbeatable breakfast option of $2.95 for two eggs, two slices of toast, hashbrowns and sausage or ham, this place is obviously jam packed at any hour. . We couldn’t pass up the bacon for $1.00 and two coffees. For only $4.95 we were ablet to get a hearty breakfast and coffee for prices that you can only see prices that have been extinct since the early 90’s! Besides breakfast they have a huge selection of entrees and desserts to choose from at very affordable prices.
BACON..................................................................................................................................!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the atmosphere of the place. It's a no-frilles type of environment lol. With that being said, I don't find the food particularly spectacular. But for the price you pay, it's well worth it.
If your seriously on a budget and wanna eat a cheap breakfast you come here. Don't complain about anything else cause NO WHERE ELSE has the $2.95 breakfast special. Double eggs, choice of meat, potatoes, toast. Seriously guys how can you turn this down? When I was a student I came here a few times. This place has done so many breakfast specials that they mastered their eggs. Look closely at their over easy, over medium, sunny up, and wet scramble. It's nicely done.
Update: March 31 2016.
Dropped my girlfriend off at work early. I had to do an errand in that area. I thought hey why not, lets go back to memory lane. The 2.95 special and a cup of coffee, free refill btw, came out to 4.20 after tax. There were two huge asian guys with tattoos and their service is very friendly and straight forward. I tipped my server a dollar, which technically is over 20 percent gratuity. I'm happy, I just wanted my egg fix.
For the price you pay are you kidding??? AMAZING. No complaints. The cheap price makes up for everything. If only I lived closer to this place, I would never be as broke as I am now...
Honestly? I like that you can pour your own coffee, and share a space with all sorts of people:) the food is simple and well made, filling and really good value. Another place worth waiting in line for
3$ all day breakfast? Yes please. What a great place and an awesome price for a solid meal! I want to eat all my meals here for 3$. Not only that but the vibe in there is so laid back, and the service was quick. I definitely recommend!
I've been eating $3 breakfast here for over 15 years. I started eating here when I was in high school and Bons hasn't changed one bit. His sons more or less run the place now thoufh and he is less around. This place feels like home to me in a weird way. I love the crowd it attracts and will come here as long as there doors are open. There is no greasy spoon quite like it in the entire world!
Great Dive. My son and I enjoyed the all day breakfast. Knew what to expect going in. WILL be back!
My son really liked the mix of patrons there and as did I.
"So don't go changing to try and please me"
The bacon was cooked perfectly crispy without being overdone. I liked that the hash browns were big hearty pan fries as opposed to shredded or cubed processed tasting potatoes.. As a person who loves a good deal I just couldn’t get over how cheap the meal was. It is definitely the best bang for your buck in Vancouver. You can’t even eat a McDonald’s meal for this cheap. Final Thoughts? If you are okay with dining in a busy dumpy atmosphere, it is worth it to check out Bon’s for a super satisfying and cheap greasy breakfast. Tagged: feature
Great Value and great experience!. Looking for some cheap eats? look no further, especially for breakfast. $2.95 for some pan fried potatoes, eggs, sausage/bacon and toast is quite the steal, you won't find anywhere better. For the newcomers one thing you may have to look past though is the décor of the establishment, very reminiscent of some trashy, grungy 80's pub/diner. But you know what, I wouldn't change a single thing, it's what makes the experience so memorable. There's an abundance of history and a special swag to this place that nobody should rob themselves of. Give it a try, very friendly staff and owner!
$3 for a full breakfast! Best deal in town. Plus it was excellent. Will definitely return.
Cheap greasy spoon diner. Perfect for your hangover cure.
The good the bad and the ugly. The good it's cheap, the service is usually quite excellent . I mean considering how busy it can get its really quite good. The 3 dollar breakfast really clocks in around five fifty after coffee and tax are in the mix. The seem quick to fill up my coffee . They seem to also get the order right consistently. I usually go for the sausage with the breakfast. Of the various meat offerings it seems to be the best value. Im not crazy about the ham . Some people seem to admire it but , to me it's just a bit to processed for me. You get a good serving of food for little money,
The bad . Sometimes things don't quite seem right. I mean your eggs might be less than right in terms of how they are cooked. Sometimes the potatoes are less than right. When the wheels come, off your order can rapidly disappear into the phantom zone. Hey it's really cheap so it's really busy. Did I mention it's noisy in here. The decor is also kind of bizzare. The graffiti covered walls are novel but I'm unsure how clean anything is. Not a deal breaker but , I have to say its slightly dirty. Some of the seating seems like it could perhaps give way underneath you.
The ugly not much but I'd have to say there's a really horrible smell in the entrance of this place. The last three visits it was super noticeable . I'm going to spare you the details but man it was nasty. However I do like the place. The waitress works super hard here and she has always been friendly and on the ball. It's got character and it has stood the test of time. Not my got to place but if in the area I'd rather venture in here than any other place nearby. It's cheap and I know what to expect. A caveat tho if you start to add on things to the special it can add to the price. At that point there's less appeal in terms of value. The odd Time I've tried thier other items I was less enthusiastic. Still a like from me
Can't go wrong. For $3 breakfast you get a good helping, but go early because the line up is out the door!
Best Value in Town!. It's really hard to argue with a place that serves a full breakfast for $3.
Okay, so the place has the ambiance of a peep show booth, but to be perfectly honest, that's great. Always good to get a bit of sleaze with your grease.
Make sure you take the time to enjoy the 80's movie posters, the grafitti and don't forget the jukebox! Where was this place when I was still young enough to be out all night and need greasy hangover food?
This is hangover heaven. 2.95 breaky= point and case. Just don't drink the coffee, inspect your utensils and smell the water cups. Or, bring your own coffee, utensils, and water bottle.
We know what it's about. Cheap and quick. Sometimes my breakfast has less portions at times, makes me a bit PO'd at times, but whatever. It's cheap. The rest of the menu isn't cheap at all, nobody ever mentions that. Super cheap breakfast, dollar pancake, it's pretty huge, and not bad, but sometimes not as good. It's a toss up. Beer and breakfast are my favourite! Cheap beer too. The place is disgusting, and the seats are falling apart. I actually looked around at the seat to check for bedbugs, just in case, yikes.
And the washrooms are not that clean, but what do you expect? Seen much worse. In fact, the Greyhound station bathroom is worse. OR the smell is worse.
Great every thing!!!!!!!!!!
Great burgers. Every time we see my sweetie's sister, she's been asking if we'd been to Bon's for the burgers yet. So we finally did and she was right, great burgers. Weird fries. Fresh and crunchy salad - until I found a couple of hairs in it. Excellent prices, very shabby inside - worse than I remember (we've been here a few times over the years for breakfast).
Eat with your eyes closed. What can you say about 2.95 breakfast, it's half the price of going to McDonalds. Will happily eat here all day long.
What's not to love.... ....about $2.95 breakfast? the price hasn't changed in years and portion is huge. sure, it's a little greasy, but hits the spot ...and so cheap! for $2.95 you obviously do not expect gourmet. you should be prepared to wait for a seat though.
Bonnnnnnnnnnns. Nothing like a big greasy breakfast after a night of hard drinking to get the bowels moving faster.... For $5 you can eat a filling meal that will satisfy any recovering alcoholic.
Nothing like having a 2.95 breakfast at 1 in the afternoon in a bustling dive. this place is a must try for anyone who enjoys a good old fashioned sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and toast breakfast, of course you got to get the 2.95 all day breakfast special when you're here. This is also one of the only joints where ive walked up to their coffee machine and poured muself a cup of coffee, apparently its all good to do that. With an 8.70 bill this is by far the cheapest breakfast i have ever had, and it was good too but then again i love the grease.
Bons?! Yes please!. I'm usually all about hygiene and cleanliness but I love this place. Even as a vegetarian I can get the all day breakfast without meat and it is substantial enough to fill me up. The pancakes are also really nice.
Yes - sometimes you have to wait to get a table and wait for service and then wait for your food.
If you're not bothered to eat early on, I suggest going after 2pm on weekends because it has died down a lot by then.
This is definitely going to become one of my regular hang outs!
One thing I love is breakfast/brunch. I was excited to try this popular place and hearing that their all day breakfast was $2.95. Even though it was busy and there was as big line up, I waited for approximately 15mins. it actually took longer to get our food than the wait time for a table. I found everyone to be quite organized even with all the people and orders they took. The self serve coffee idea is great especially when the servers gets really busy. The breakfast was average in taste, but the portion was big. I ordered pancakes, which put me to carbohydrate coma. The place definitely has character and its good place to meet up with people and have a good, affordable breakfast/brunch. Overall Experience: thumb's up
Amazing hangover food. I went there with a bunch of friends and bought there notoriously cheap 2.95 breakfast and a dozen super tasty hot wings for 6 bucks.
The food was delicious, the atmosphere was a writing on the wall dive-bar targeted to a younger crowd, which I enjoyed very much.
2 Thumbs up
Good Breakfast Joint. Have been coming here for years. I remember when Bon's used 2 B by Cambie (where Cactus Club is now). They were and still R famous 4 their cheap breakfast.
Is it gourmet? NO Is it heart-smart? NO Is it busy & noisy? YES But they do the cheap breakfast well. DON'T come on weekends - they R packed ;-(
I can understand the line-ups for this place - I canNOT understand them for Sophies
Breaky. This place is a great place for insanely cheap great diner breakfast. The service is always friendly and I love that the customers are in charge of the coffee refills, its fun when someone at the table beside you refills your cup. You can get a basic breakfast; bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast) along with coffee for 5 bucks. I really like this place and It doesnt hurt that it is around the corner from my house. It can be a bit of a hipster paradise but if you get here early you'll have no problem getting a table and enjoying your meal.
The good old days.... This place reminds me of highschool... used to come here with friends all the time. You can still get a nice greasy breakfast (eggs, hashbrowns, bacon/ham and toast) and a coffee for $5.... do you need to know more???
Well - I'll tell you anyways... they have posters of movies all over the walls, they've got those old school booths with the cushy seats and they've got a few characters working there as well. Havent been there in a while - but there was a fellow with a change belt and sherrif button who would refill ur coffee before it got empty without fail!
The only drawback would have to be the line... not sure about you but when I am hungry in the morning and I need my coffee, the last thing I want to do is stand in line for half an hour. Translation - WE NEED MORE BON's LOCATIONS!
My favorite. What can i say about bons. It was the first meal i took my boyfriend too. i usually use it to test people. can they handle the bons? super cheap, awsome atmosphere, its the first place i wanna go when i come home from being away for work for months. its the place i wanna eat on my birthday. its a place i plan to take my family to. Its better than breakfast at home. the potatoes alone are worth the 4 bucks. the crustiness reminds me of roasted potatoes on thanksgiving and you know i eat the overdone ones off other peoples plates. Coffee is do it yourself which is great for a coffee lover like myself. chocolate milk used to get it about 50% of the time when ordering but those stats have improved
Best b fast in town lots of fun lots of waiting but well worth it
Great value, you may or may not like the atmosphere though. Personally I have no problem with it
Fast, cheap and dirty. Like a highschool girlfriend you don't take home to mama.
Breakfast under $3 anyone?. Cant go wrong for $2.95
Classic dive. Amazingly dingy dive of a place with perfunctory service but pretty good food and good prices.
Bon's is awesome if you're wanting some good cheap food but to not, I repeat, do not go on Sunday morning because you'll be waiting an hour for a seat!!!
Tasty, Trashy. If you like great food, then you should definitely eat here, if you can stomach the bright yellow walls and 70s decor surrounding you with movie posters from all decades starting from the 30s...
Not to be missed!. Bons is an experience that goes way beyond the food. Its a community. As far as breakfasts go Bons is heads above any of the corporate breakfast places like Dennys or Rickys. Not only is the food and service better but Bons has a soul.
Sit down and look around you'll find the place buzzing with the most intense conversations. People are so alive in that place.. and its contageous. I always feel better after spending time in Bons and thats probably because I came and had great laughs with my friends.
The staff or totally cool people and never annoying which always amazes me because that place is so freaking busy.
When I have friends visit Vancouver, Bons is always on the list of things to do while they are in town.
Best Breakfast Place. Amazing prices, a great hangout for friends and the food is decent. Bon's is great.
Ok you get it, the prices are low. What about the food? Well what can you expect? It's not gourmet, it's a little bit greasy, but tastes good and the portions are huge. Not sure how I can really describe how a fried egg is suppose to taste like but heck for this price go try it f
They are famously known for their cheap, $2.95 breakfast, served all day long. A great place to get your hangover prescription filled.
We met up with Eric and Becky at this place for breakfast. What attracted us to this place was their $2.95 breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage or bacon, hash browns, and toast. The plates were huge! It costed an extra $1 for coffee, but who was going to complain about a $4 hearty breakfast? Mike got the sausage and I got the bacon. It was very good and fairly fast for a cheap greasy breakfast diner. The place was really busy for a Saturday morning. I wish there were more of these near us at home. This place is a couple blocks from Broadway skytrain station and super packed during lunch time. The staff there's very friendly and service speed is average, not too bad considering how packed it is during peak hours.
I’m not a morning person. And I normally don’t have time for breakfast. I just drink a glass of milk or soymilk and run out the door. On the weekends, I wake up around 10 am to let my pet parrotlet “Giant” out of his cage for a couple of hours or until he
It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. How much? Some even say breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, sup like a pauper. In my case, I usually end up having a bowl of cereal with some fruit (either banana or some berries) an
Nanzaro loves camping. He signs up for every camp that he comes across. I don't think he is bothered with what the camp is just as long as he goes camping. It could be leadership, survival, physical education, flying … anything. So over this long Thanksg
We did not know this place. Someone suggested that we check it out.
So we came for a late breakfast. I have not seen such an eye catching interior before.
We were pleasantly welcomed by the manager and got a good booth. We also learned that we came on a not so busy day. Usually, people wait to get in.
They have a long menu and the star attraction is the all day breakfast for $2.99. It is really generous. But there many other good choices.
The floor and the walls and most surfaces are covered with graffiti. Some quite complex and interesting.
Food was good, portions were generous. Coffee is bottomless.
I definitely recommend this place.
A very well priced diner on Broadway (hence the name) that seems to be an institution in east Vancouver. The coffee is self-serve which is convenient and the vibe is super cool inside. The food was typical ‘greasy spoon’ diner fair which was well done. Get the classic $3 breakfast - you cannot get a decent sit-down breakfast meal for that cheap anywhere else in Van. Nothing really to dislike here!
An excellent place to have a sleep in breakfast in the afternoon. Prices are generally reasonable overall. We had two breakfasts for under $18.00. Service was attentive and fast. The atmosphere was unique...hard to describe but best to see for yourself. It was not too busy when we were there but for a $3.00 breakfast special I can be sure it can be very busy. Highly recommended.
Without a doubt - you will NEVER find a cheaper breakfast in Vancouver, and possibly in all of North America. For $2.95 you get a plate full of hash browns, eggs, ham and toast. It’s cheap, cheerful and awesome. Their menu doesn’t just include breakfasts, there’s a huge selection of other food, drinks and booze all available too. Visiting here is a unique experience. Make sure to bring a marker so you can sign a table, a chair, the wall or even the washroom!! That’s what Bons is all about after all. And make sure to bring some coins to bang some tunes on the jukebox. This place is my number one in Vancouver. And hey, if you usually tip 20% think about giving these awesome staff a bit more. They work so hard and 20% of a $2.95 breakfast isn’t really that much is it!!
I love love LOVE Bon’s of Broadway! One of my utmost favourite restaurants in the city! Not only are Bon’s and his staff so kind, they take the time to know their customers - especially their orders! The all-day breakfast is absolutely outstanding with an affordable price for everyone - a quick life hack is to ask for Garlic and Onion Potatoes: they elevate the breakfast to a whole new level and it only costs a few cents more!
2022 April, and they're still selling $2.95 ADB. Very unique experience, friendly staff, great service, happy customers. Like a gigantic organic graffiti artworks. Definitely a bucket list item in Vancouver.
For HongKongers, a Vancouver version of 茶餐廳😅
