Super impressed by this find in Yaletown. It provided a great setting to catch up with old friends and have some delicious bites to eat. I came in with the mindset of small Japanese tapas but it was actually a lot of food with greater than usual tapa portions. The large sized Hapa Chicken salad was huge - definitely for sharing. I will note that they appear to have a strong affinity to using chili sauce on everything. It was drizzled onto the volcano roll and the beef tataki. I'm not used to that when eating Japanese dishes and personally not a huge fan of it. I did like the Japanese greetings the entire staff would belt out when you come in and leave. It added to the atmosphere. Their Hapa hour menu items are a great and economical way to taste test a variety of items too. I also thoroughly enjoyed their unagi ishiyaki and yaki udon.
Hapa Izakaya is located in the heart of Yaletown. They serve an assortment of Japanese tapas and a few main dishes as well. Hapa Izakaya is great for group gatherings but you need to make sure everyone arrives on time to keep your table. ⭐⭐⭐. Rating: 2.5 out of 5. I knew I wanted to get the Midori salad because we were going to have some pretty heavy menu items later on. The two of us aren’t fans of heavy salad dressing. We were pleasantly surprised to see that this salad had a nice light citrus vinaigrette style dressing on top. However, if you’re a fan of dressing, I think you’ll have to ask for a bit more.
This is the only Hapa Izakaya left in Vancouver, I believe! There used to be a few locations but they closed down in recent years. Good place to come for drinks and some Japanese tapas. It can get busy so I would recommend getting a reservation beforehand.
The food was delicious! But there are other places which make comparable items but portions are a bit bigger and the food is a bit cheaper. But I ADORED dessert. The kinako panna cotta was so good. I think I might go again for just drinks and dessert
The Hapa TOY menu is $25 and comes with three shareable items. Instead of doing regular appetizer, main, and dessert courses, they stuck with their tapas style sharing environment and made a menu designed to provide items that you can share with your dining companions.
The first course is a choice of: Beef Tataki, Ahi Tuna Yukke, and Agedashi Vegetables.
“Hapa” is that restaurant you go to for a good time. For me they are synonymous with clinking glasses, boisterous laugher, and delicious small plates. And this is no different during “Taste of Yaletown”, with their all-savoury, three course menus. The Yaletown location is actually my favourite, given their proximity to the skytrain and me always leaving with a warm buzz and a grin; then climbing on to transit for an easy and safe ride home. Your experience begins as soon as you enter their threshold. As everyone takes the time to shout a greeting to you, making you feel welcomed, whist setting the tone. The tone that being loud and having fun is a part of what they are all about. The restaurant’s narrow space is kept dark by their all black bar stools and high tops. There really isn’t an decor to speak of. The most ornate feature of the room is their ceiling with criss crossing beams.
Meal: Saba Aburi, Yakiudon, Ebi mayo (not pictured), spicy pork rock pot rice, and large cold sake. . Service: Good service albeit our server messed up our sake order and then gave us a bit of shade. . Atmosphere: Loud, pretty hard to have a conversation in here unless you have a loud voice.
Something you guys probably don't know about me: I eat a whole lotta takeout. A whole lot. Everyday in fact. But I rarely ever blog about it. I don't know...I always eat takeout at an odd hour (read: 9 pm on the dot) the lighting's weird, the food looks hella unappetizing sitting in a styrofoam box so I find blogging about it kind of...pointless.
Hapa Izakaya is one of my favorite izakaya restaurants to date. They have some great classics as well as some cool spins and twists on their own creations. Food, service, ambiance are all on point here - great place for a solid meal with friends.
I had the negitoro, tartare, sashimi salad, sukiyaki, and the nigiri combo. Everything was perfectly seasoned - from the negitoro to the sushi rice. I really like the garlic bread crostinis, very unique and complementary touch to the richness and freshness of the dish.
Portions are small, but you can taste the quality and attention to detail - worth every penny. Servers are very friendly and knowledeable although there is a bit of a language barrier some of the time. The restaurant is beautiful. Parking can be difficult and expensive. Highly recommended for parties or just for a nice dinner.
My girlfriend and I found this eatery on Zomato and we are both glad we did! Such a nice restaurant with friendly staff and amazing food. Highly recommended :D

After landing in Vancouver I was pretty tired from the trip so we headed out to a place close by to have diner. As we were close to Yaletown we went down Hamilton street looking for a place to eat. There was lot to choose from on that street but the place that got our attention was Hapa Izakaya.

Great find, tasty food, friendly staff was what we needed after a long day. We share, Yakitori were well marinated and tasty and the big hit for us was the chipotle beef curry ishi-yaki.
That may even be a bit generous but we come here for the action and ambience. What else to expect from trendy Yaletown.
Tried the Tasting Menu for $25, great value but pass the aburi-style sushi, Minami around the corner does it better.
Great service.
Will recommend.
For two weeks in October, the Taste of Yaletown dining festival brings together foodies by offering featured menus, special tastings and innovative pairings from Yaletown restaurants. This year, there are 26 participating restaurants, each with a special set menu offering at price points of: $25, $35 or $45. As most foodies love scouring through menus and food photos before choosing a restaurant, Modern Mix Vancouver is thrilled to be able to offer our readers a sneak peek at Hapa Izakaya’s Taste of Yaletown 2015 menu, before the start of this annual festival on October 15th.
I have been here a few times and although it does not have the greatest food I would say that it is a great place to meet with friends and have a drink. Overally, other izakayas in Vancouver have better food but Hapa is definitely the place to go if you have a larger group and are there to socialize with friends.
I've been to Hapa Izakaya in Kitsilano a while ago which gave me a really great dining experience. So, for our foodies' night, I wanted to try their Yaletown location so that my friends and I ended up here to try their Hapa Hour (aka Hapa's Happy Hour) and dinner after.
I have been here a number of times. Hapa's food is a deliciously fun approach to Japanese style tapas. The renkon gyoza tempura is to die for!!! Seriously, I could eat it everyday and never get tired of it. It is the one dish that keeps me always coming back to this restaurant. Service is friendly and quick. Go during Hapa hour to get the best bang for your buck. A great place for dinner and drinks to share among friends.
Been here numerous times and hot damn they serve some amazing dishes! The tuna, avocado salsa dip with plantain chips is a must-try. Followed by the halibut tacos and the pork belly lettuce wraps. Service has always been average and atmosphere is nice. Writing this on an empty stomach was not a good idea!
Hit or miss sometimes. Happy hour has great prices but sometimes it's a hit or miss. Service could be fantastic one day and not. Food could be amazing one day or not. Doesn't seem consistent here at all for some reason. However the selection of sake is nice really nice.
Happy hour is great!. I have been to Hapa chain many times before but I never knew about their happy hour.
I went to Yaletown location 2 weeks ago for a girls night out and we were quite happy about their happy hour menu.
Good food and drinks for really reasonable price.
Pretty loud atmosphere but good for girls night out!
Hapa Hour!. Hot wings and mushroom ishiyaki were the top picks at our table, yum! Great atmosphere, friendly service. Mixed drinks need a little work...but overall a great way to unwind after a long work week!
Great place for after work relaxation. Got invited after work. Relaxing and top notch ambiance. Very rocking waitstaff though no blondies given the setting. Still good. Had a bunch of stuff including squid, white fish and their sushi sashimi. Waitress accepted a shot with us Will be back
The best izakaya. Vancouverites are so lucky to have these. Hapa is the best. I have tried a few and this right here has the best drinks and upscale and classy atmo that calls for ordering drinks and entertaining. Yeah the women here are the cutest and bestest. By far. This is true value and makes ordering drinks a pleasure. Just they need to stay open later. Over and out
Great place to dine. Happy hour is very cheap. although portions are small, some dishes are "just right".
Awesome!. Delicious food, great atmosphere and excellent customer service!
Good times!. Always a good time at Hapa, especially Happy Hour! I recommend a triple sake for big occasions.
Tan Taka Tan. This is a great fusion restaurant. Good service and good food. Japanese Izakaya, but fusioned with western style, just a bit, to make more comfortable for western people. Japanese people can share their great food culture with others that are maybe not as adventurous eaters as they are.
I liked it. I thought the food was good, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Don't do the sampler plate, too small, but do get ebimayo, short ribs, and the shiso mojito was awesome! They should do them in pitchers!! Edamame was cold, that was weird. All in all, pretty good.
Hapa-ning. Was in town for a concert last weekend and 4 of us went to Hapa where we had an amazing meal. Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was great. The standouts were definitely the Ishi-yaki with pork and the newer one added to the menu with salmon and mushrooms. I'm a big fan of Korean hot-stone bowls and Hapa absolutely nailed it. Also had the pork belly steambun which was delicious and the tropical roll was a hit as well. All-in-all a good experience and definitely recommended!
Eat the ika.. The food was better than a lot of izakayas I've been to in Japan. The ika and the ebi-mayo were exceptional. The atmosphere is good. Bring your date here; he or she will think you're so much cooler than those people with no imagination next door in the Cactus club.
Need to include their gratuity policy on their lunch menu. I wanted to re-iterate a complaint I delivered at your Yaletown location this afternoon. I've been to this location 5 times before with parties of 4 people. Today I convinced a larger party of 8 to visit your establishment. Upon receiving our individual bills I noticed that a 18% gratuity was automatically included, which for me is fine as I usually tip 20%. But I explained to the staff that you should note this on your lunch menu, which is a sheet of paper.
I was told that this information is on your website, as well as your dinner menu, as if this excused this information from being absent on your lunch menu. I don't find this to be an acceptable excuse as:
1. I've never visited your website, and shouldn't be expected to prior to eating at your establishment and
2. The dinner menu wasn't handed to us when we sat down, only a drink menu (of which the gratuity policy is also absent) and the paper lunch menu.
It is for this reason that I encourage you to include this policy on your lunch menu so your customers are informed, thus creating an atmosphere whereby the only thing which is a surprise is your great food.
This is standard in the food industry, and I hope you consider my suggestion, as I (and my co-workers) will not patronize your establishment again until your lunch menu is corrected to include this.
Most Sincerely,
What flavor the Tuna Tacos lacked, the Yaki-Udon made up for it. The noodles were cooked just right, nice and chewy, and there was a good ratio of chicken and veggies compared to noodles.
While my mom was away in HK, I decided to take the stepdad down to one of my favourite spots for some snacks and to catch the Canucks game. Along with the traditional Ebi Mayo and Ishi Yaki, (which have been photographed numerous times) we also got some of their more unique dishes.
We had dinner at the new Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown. It is a popular chain of Japanese Fusion TAPAS in Vancouver with 3 or 4 other locations.
After Dee missed out on our really great experience at Hapa Izakaya on Robson , we finally had the chance to bring him to our next Hapa Izakaya destination: Hapa
Since I’d already been t0 Glowbal the first night they were open and wasn’t into joining the crazy relaunch party last night, I decided to head over to the newly reopened Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown (on Hamilton at Davie by Cactus Club) with a girlfriend bef
Oddly enough, I've been to most of the well known izakayas around town except for Hapa . Since I had a mini reunion with some old colleagues in Yaletown, I thought I would 'conveniently' suggest to try out the new one. I had the best service even before I
Hapa Izakaya recently opened it's newest location in Yaletown. I have tried the other two locations and there's spectacular quality across the board.
When Jenkins and I found out that Hapa Izakaya was going to open up at Shiru Bay’s old location in Yaletown, we were both quite happy. Finally, another tasty izakaya opening up in Yaletown and filling in the void left when Shiru Bay vacated. :) Even thoug
Izakaya, something that until recently (see visit to Suika ) was foreign in my food vocabulary. Now I'm excited to try more and more, but the price point still puts me off and it really requires a group of 4+ to maximize trying out the most items as possible. For Caitlin's 22nd ( nothing special really =P ) she gathered 5 of us for a quiet dinner at Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown. Perfect, more than 4 people meant that there would be sharing.. well amongst the couples at least. Not for me, I had no one to share with. The interior was dim with spot lighting, and the open kitchen and hustling waitresses (who apparently are the best looking bunch out of all 3 Hapa Izakaya's) gave the restaurant a trendy yet relaxed feel. Now, before we get started.. let me just say that since I had come from happy hour at the Boathouse in New West, I wasn't really feeling hungry, so I just ordered a rice bowl to fill up. Hence, I barely touched any of the following items you'l
Yaletown's newest izakaya entrant normally has post-5pm service, but they similarly decided to be open for lunch during the Olympics. 11am-2pm Sunday through Thursday, for them. Unlike the wide selection they have during regular service, Hapa's lunch menu
My good friend Airdrie Miller recently invited me for dinner to Hapa Izakaya in Yaletown recently, right after we participated in the eBeauty.ca and CityTV event. I had been to other izakaya's but not to Hapa (I went to Hapa Umi the other day, but it's not the same thing as Hapa Izakaya). We ordered a ISHI-YAKI (Hapa's version of the Korean hot stone bowl: rice, minced pork, flower chives, egg, tomato, lettuce and spicy-miso; mixed tableside, $8.80), some GOMA-AE (vegetable, in this case, jicama with goma-ae (sesame) dressing). For a first time visiting Hapa Izakaya, I'll have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. I was even more impressed that we didn't really eat that much and yet we weren't hungry after dinner. Overall, Hapa Izakaya is definitely a place I want to come back and try several other items. The "tapas" style is one that gives me a bit of cognitive dissonance since I'm used to Spanish tapas rather than Japanese tapas, but overall, I'll definitely have to come back. Thanks Air,
