Hello friends! It’s been a while since I’ve been so excited to share about a new restaurant, Biercraft. Last week, I was invited to try some of the items on the new Biercraft menu. I was delightfully surprised by how many international flavours they incorporated into their menu. Biercraft drink menu
During our July staycation, we were getting a hankering for some quality mussels and we headed down to our old stomping grounds on Commercial Drive only to be disappointed that our destination (Carthage Cafe) was closed despite their hours saying they should have been open. After a hurried Google search, we headed 7 blocks north to BierCraft Tap and Tapas because their menu said they offered mussels.
Decent food, big portions. Lovely beer, tried many and never been disappointed the flights are a good deal and the ambiance is casual and inviting.
What’s a warm summer day without some beer to cool you down? And one of my go-to’s is “Biercraft” on Commercial Drive, it’s accessibility by skytrain makes them a great place to drink. And when you can’t decide on what to sip on, a beer flight is the best way to go.
Great patio on Commercial Drive. Excellent and attentive service! Delicious brunch options including the classics and some more creative options.
I asked for a suggestion on their dark beer and the waiter knew so much about beer and suggested one of the best dark beers I've tasted. I was only there for drinks this time so didn't get any food but the beer alone was worth the visit.
...ate at Biercraft on CommercialBiercraft, where they really do have the best mussels for such a great price (under $20 for a full pound), and such flavor. We got the one with the chorizo, and the Elderflower margarita and Blood Orange beer. The margarita reminded me of the ones at Las Margaritas, but in a smaller and safer portion. H thought one of the servers was cute, and I admit she was actually very nice and not all looks.
Came to BierCraft (Commercial Drive) for an official Yelp social with free appies plus one I tried to order but Yelp ended up paying for it anyway (thank you!). So, I didn't pay for anything, but I'm not obligated to BierCraft either. Overall, prices are daunting for food and portions that are just OK... BUT! -- they do have some surprising things here and there that nets them bonus points.
I have been here before, but we were going on a pub crawl down Commercial Drive and this was listed as stop number two. It’s yellow stucco exterior and red roof were visible from its street corner. The narrow covered patio would have been nice on a warm day, but with today’s drizzle it was closed. Instead we were able to grab two tables and move them together to provide ourselves with a window watching view.
Brunch and Belgian beer 👌 Best spot in Vancouver to get your European beer fix. The ambiance is nice and warm inside and a great place for the patio. Food is amazing and so are their drinks. Can get a little busy and food can take a while to come out. Overall great experience
Interesting menu as far as beers go. Though some of their beers go up beyond the $10 point for a point - which is a bit beyond my comfort level.
The baked brie is amazing!!! The mussels are fantastic as well as the filet cheesesteak appetizer. Great selection of beer. Definitely one of my favorite spots.
The best mussels I ever had. The mussels are big, fat, and juicy. The sauce is excellent with the right amount of salt. The service is great but the beer is quite overpriced.
Great Stuff!. Been here to the commercial location several times now and never been disappointed!
The bruchetta and the thai muscles are amazing! and always friendly service! Great spot to relax with delicious food, consistent every time!
Great friendly service - good atmosphere. Mussels Normande was excellent and the frites good too.
Good vibe and can't wait to go back.
Great selection of beers. Food is a bit of a rip
Been here several times now. Always good food. Try the seared tuna! Awesome!
Great Service!. I ended up going here on a whim one afternoon and I was not dissapointed. This was some of the best service that I've had in awhile. I ended up getting the beer sampler and my server reccomened some great tastes. It was a cohesive and wonderful sampler. I had the tuna which was ok and then the chocolate torte that was much much better than just ok. I would come back here again and again. I hope that I get the same server. His service was perfect.
Wow, Begian beer is great!. Fets sufficed last time i was on the drive when biercraft was full, now with my sister and her bf sitting at the last table in biercraft, im starting to get excited as i sit in traffic en route. Its nice inside, has a bar like atmosphere with a lively crowd, a belgianish type atmosphere perhaps? Like i would know lol. But now its time to wet the whistle. I roll with the duvel, it was ultra smooth and had some body to it, hard to believe it was 8.1%. For the edibles, i have the beef carpaccio, it has nice bread with some olive oil and some vinaigrette, tasty with the beef, onions and some sauce. I also got a little fancy and had a side of belgian frites (french fries) haha, comes with a mayo(yay) but has lime in it (boo), all in all, very good night!
Why did they have to change their name?. Still just as good, thank goodness
Great Tapas!. Been here on repeated occasions, for no other particular reason than to have some GREAT spicy mussells, and the beer selection.
Response to Lambert review June 17th. Hi Ms Lambert
I read your review and since there is no other forum in which to respond, I post my comments here.
Ownership of Biercraft remains the same as it was when we went by our former name. An unfortunate lawsuit precipitated the change. I am disappointed that you had a poor experience at our restaurant and am sorry that we were unable to correct things in the moment. We always take feedback as an opportunity to improve and to this end have met with our kitchen staff to ensure that our standards are reviewed. I would like to think that we are always consistent but am aware that as with all restaurants there are occassions were we lapse and for this I offer a sincere apology. I would very much like to have the opportunity to talk with you directly and hope that you give me a call at 604 729-9787

Consistency. I have been to both locations on several different occasions and every visit has been quite pleasant.
I don't really go to either location for any of the food, it's more for the atmosphere and the wide selection of beers. I also have to say that I do like the atmosphere a little bit more at the Commercial Drive location a bit more than the Cambie Street one.
I find the food to be your standard pub fare, bordering on the higher priced end. The beers I find are quite reasonable, my favourite being Kronenberg White (think Hoegarten-esque)!
Fruity beer anyone? only 2.5%. We ordered two pounds of mussels. One of the best moules I've had for awhile. Order the Normande with the bacon. The dish is a bit salty for my taste but the plump and juicy moules were enough for me. We were there at 8pm. There were empty tables around us but the waitress was rushing to clear our dishes. I don't know why. We were willing to stay for desserts but I guess the dish washer had to run home early.
NEAT Atmosphere - GOOD Tapas. Have been here a couple times and can always depend on good beer selection, neat tapas selection and a eclectic room with kinda-kool buzz to it.
Notable were the prawns, mussels (Normandie & Orleans), frites and seared tuna - average (at best) were the chicken wings.
Not for the budget-minded
Great beer selection and fast friendly service. Oh yeah, the food's good too! 3 tapas between 2 people and we were FULL. Great presentation and imaginative dishes.
Loved it.. We went here on a week night and tried a few dishes on their menu. We had the "Filet"-delphia Cheese Steak, ahi tuna, braised beef brisket taquitos, steak tacos, and half a pound of mussels. It was ALL good. I love how their dishes are so unique and full of flavour - I would go back to try the rest!
Great Food and service. Stella's has one of the greatest beer menu's I have ever seen, the staff are friendly and have a great knowledge of all the beers that are on offer. The food is average but good enough to keep the hunger at bay whilst you are sampling their marvelous beers. Also if you have do not like or have never tried dark beers then try them as you will not regret it.
Good food, great beer. Not much to say beyond the title, service has always been good when I've gone, but then I'm usually there in the middle of the afternoon for a beer and a tapa so it's hard to judge. If you haven't had Golden Drak this is one of the few places you'll find it, and it is a real treat.
Great beer selection even for the fussy. Food is pretty good. Agree with most the brunch is the bomb. And the evening service can be a dud from time to time.
A Man's Tapas Bar. Great Belgian beers paired with mussels, ribs, and prawns? That's a man's version of a tapas bar right there.
My favorites: pork riblets, prawns, beef carpaccio, and seared tuna.
Stella's had excellent food and service during my visit. I'll definitely be back on a future trip to Vancouver.
Kind of inconsistent. So Stella's can be hit or miss. I agree that the brunch is consistently better than dinner. The flat iron steak tacos is the best thing on the dinner menu.
That said, it's a fun place, I can get good beer and there's always a good vibe - so for that I forgive some mediocre dishes that end up on my table. And some of them are truly good. Make it a game to find the good ones, and you're golden.
Tap yes, tapas no. Go for the beer and drinks at any time, and go for the food at brunch. But their non-brunch food is usually disappointing, and overpriced by tapas standards.
Options, Options, Options~ When you want to visit a bar that offers over 120 different Belgium and craft beers, local cask pourings, a regionally inspired menu of tapas and bistro food, "Biercraft" is my recommendation. As their name suggests they do beer and do things with beer. Beer is their craft. They offer 20 beers on tap and over 100 in bottle. If you can't decide on what you want you can "choose your own adventure". 4 beers in tasting size glasses, served in a handsome wood bar. This is the popular option and with it you get more bang for your buck. You try a little of each before you committing. A great way to get someone who is a little set in their ways to try something new. Most exciting is their offering of beer cocktails. Drinks made with beer as a pose to the traditional spirits we are familiar with. The one I tried was their "Frulini". It is their take on the "Bellini". But instead of sangria mix and wine, a fruity light beer goes in as your alcohol. In this case it was
Hey Everyone, While at a Remax Christmas event on Commercial Drive where our company Cherry On Top Designs had a gift basket up as a raffle draw prize, Jess and I walked around the area to look for a place to have lunch. We came across BierCraft, and since either of us have yet to try it, we decided to dine here! The inside of it definitely has that tavern feel to it. The bar is right inside when you step in and runs towards the back of the restaurant. There are tv's at the bar, and also several tv's in the dining areas as well. We were seated at a window seat in the front right corner. Their menu has quite the extensive beer selected, as expected from a place named as such. With plenty of beer available on tap, it was very hard to decide which one to try, so I ended up picking the flight of BierCraft Beer Sampler $10. As you can see from the photo, going from left to right, we have the D'Hiven, Maiselsweiss, Salty Scot, and Resolution. They all tasted like what they looked like, except for Resolution. Resolution had this peculiar flavour that I couldn't quite put my finger on, and was quite weird; so much so that I didn't end up finishing it! My favourites in order would have to be 2>1>3>4. For food, since this was basically brunch for us, I had the Waffles $11 , and Jess had the Fish & Chips $13 plus a coffee $2.75 . My waffles came with whipped cream of course, a side dish of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, and instead of maple syrup, it came with chocolate sauce! Now I love chocolate, so this was DELICIOUS! Jess will never understand it, but I love sweet things for breakfast/brunch, so when I order crepes, waffles, or pancakes, I almost always get the sweet type. The combination of chocolate sauce and the berries made it quite sweet, but not so much that it was unbearable. The mistake however, was pairing this dish with beer! I guess one could argue that beer and breakfast foods don't mix, but then again we're at BierCraft, so how could I not have
BierCraft is not only great place to have a few pints in the open patio, but they also have a pretty delicious set of Tapas and food items. I’m sure if your goal was to try one of everything they have you would be pretty pissed drunk.
All four of us had a great time and a great meal and agreed that we would return back to Stella's on the drive again for beer and to stuff our faces with great food.
Having passed by Stella several time and talking about it, we finally went. It has always been in the corner of our sight when we go to Havana's. it seems like a good place from the outside and sounds like beer. IndecisiveGirl, Fragile Boy, M and I went f

Biercraft Tap and Tapas Bar used to be Stella's. I find it strange when a restaurant changes names. Especially one that has been around for such a long time- and to a much longer name. Why? Trying to find to the answer on their website is no help. They talk about opening the first "Biercraft" in 2005. Well, it was true but it was Stella's. They never mention the name "Stella's" in the website. Why work on a brand for so long just to ignore it with a name change? We have been going to Stella's for years (and to Santo's before that, to lay down some old school Commercial Drive, yo). Great beer selection, nice room and good food. Great luck if you are able to get a seat on the patio in the summer. Photo by Knightbefore_99 on Flickr. The lovely Yvette arranged a post Xmas get together at now Biercraft for about 8 of us. We have these get togethers at Biercraft every couple of months as we like the beer selection and the food. I like that they have Lambics because I am a girly beer drinker.
On a Saturday night, we decided to check out the drive...it's close to my house, but for some reason, we rarely venture over there, preferring downtown or yaletown. As such, I had no idea of where to go eat, and decided to let twitterverse suggest something for me. Of all the places on the drive, BierCraft was the only one who actually replied to me and suggested that I come check them out. Well, great use of Twitter on their part! There was a Canucks game on that night, and we made sure we arrived nice and early so that we could snag a table. We showed up at 6 and were seated in the bar area, at a hightop table. The only downside was that ione stool backed onto the incoming/outgoing door of the kitchen. We sat down, but asked our server if we could move to a less dangerous table should one arrive. She was most gracious and accommodated us when another finally left. The first thing that arrived at the table, was a complimentary bowl of homemade potato chips. Lightly salted and super cr
Another weekend - another opportunity for brunch! We had found our way to Commercial Drive and were somewhat wandering around trying to think of what we'd like for breakfast. We are big fans of Bandidas , but thought it was time to branch out. We went fur
I went to Stella's Tap & Tapa Bar for the first time a couple weeks ago, and wow, this place caught me by a surprise.
A bunch of us from work gathered at Stella’s Tap and Tapas Bar on Commercial to celebrate the holiday season.
Who doesn't love a good, lazy, late morning brunch? I'm a loyal fan of the brunch, especially if there is also beer. Not that I am normally an advocate for AM drinking, but with Stella's Tap & Tapas ' huge assortment of fruity, delicious import beer, exce
Having enjoyed the Cambie variation of Stella's, and fueled by a desire to avoid the claustrophobic congestion induced by Olympic fever, we decided to pay a visit to the original Tap & Tapas Bar on The Drive. They have a larger
Very decent taphouse. We chose to sit at the patio, which is very small but we were glad we could eat outside. Not sure why, but in the beginning, our waitress was somewhat cold towards us, but later it changed, so no biggie. Exciting menu, both for drinks and food. I liked that beer came with a portion of popcorn with some good mix of spices. Little thing, but leaves a good impression. We didn't eat much, I guess, but we liked everything we tried. I haven't seen Chicharron in a while, so it was a treat for sure. I also really liked the mussels and wings. Overall it was a pleasant stay with good drinks and decent food — nothing to complain about.
Had a great light dinner. Really enjoyed the French onion soup and grilled cheese with bacon. The Belgian fritos were really good too! Definitely recommend trying their house amuse for the fries as well.
I went here on a Tuesday which just happens to be Taco Tuesday! 3 tacos for 10$ or something like that. They were amazing, I picked 3 different kinds and I have nothing bad to say. I don't personally drink so i can't comment on the beer, but they do have tons of different craft beers and a large selection of beer on tap.
I would recommend coming here for a snack and a drink!!
I have been to Biercraft a few times and the food is usually pretty good. Obviously the vast beer selection is the main draw. Dropped by today to try the Halifax Donair from King Donair and was not disappointed. It is a very unique Donair, and very different from others you will find downtown. They will be serving them up till 11PM, so suggest dropping in if you have the time.
They do beer, lots of it. Also popcorn in small dishes to be eaten while you drink your beer. Excellent tapas and handhelds. Great service. Bathrooms are clean and kept up. Can be busy at nights but that’s how you know it’s good. Next time in town I will return, for beer.
Great experience altogether. Arrived at just after 6 on a rainy Sunday. Got seated right away. Place is cosy with plenty of room between tables. Service was friendly and efficient, making sure we had drinks and a clean table. Food was excellent, had a great time.
Service here was exceptional and so was the food. I always order the mussels when I come here and side orders of friends and bread -- you can dip the bread in the mussel broth. My favourite flavour is the Madrid but I would recommend you come here a few times and try them all or else bring a group of 6 and everybody orders a different flavour. The beer selection is also great. My favourite beer is the Kwak which comes in a unique beer glass holder and is very fun. Highly recommended!
