Perfect place for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. Great place for my family and I to eat so it can cater to everyone. Love this place can't recommend it enough.
Here for the second time today and we fell in love :) great vegan (and omni) poutine, awesome vegan pina colada and now we're just waiting for probably even more awesome burgers and sandwiches. Might come back tomorrow for the vegan Mac n cheese before heading back home totally recommend this place for anyone who wants to go a bit further off the downtown tourist rush into more alternative settings
Family of four enjoyed our meals - meatloaf wellington; bacon cheese burger; mac n cheese (sub-not vegan cheese) with chorizo and the beef stroganoff. Everything was excellent including the service and pretty reasonably priced for what you get. We will return.
My very very very favourite eating place in the whole wide world, zero exceptions
Best dinner I've had in years !! Seriously I am always dissspointed with vegan food at restaurant but this was so fantastic that I'm telling everyone and such care taken by staff I've never been asked , do you have any allergies? No I don't but thanks got caring. We will be back
This is a popular diner located on Main Street, right near Broadway. They have a menu, a large portion of which are vegetarian/vegan, although they do also have meat dishes for carnivores like myself. I had their Canuck Burger with Fries. The burger itself was quite good - I quite enjoyed their meat patty - the fries were strangely dry, however. The prices are a little on the higher side. The food took a while to come out, but the server was quite warm and friendly. While the diner didn't blow me away, I think it's worth a visit, especially if you're vegetarian/vegan.
The Canuck Burger and Fries ($16):
3.5/5
This contained bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, and mushrooms, and comes with your choice of pork & beef patty, grilled chicken breast, or beyond burger patty. I, of course, had the pork & beef patty. The burger wasn't particularly large in size, but still pretty satisfying. Although the patty was a little dry and charred on the exterior, it was very tender and juicy on the inside. The bacon provided a great bit of saltiness. The fries were crispy, but strangely dry.
Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Burgers
This is a really beautiful restaurant as the interior design is quite unique and definitely adds a lot of character. The service is really polite and friendly and truly cares about your needs (especially since you can get anything turned vegan or vegetarian). I really enjoyed my eggs benedict and tried to not be so critical to other places I had had since I wanted to try the way that they made it. It was truly wonderful and I was full, the prices were very reasonable and I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
140 characters summary: I can't wait to come back to try the rest of their menu. Must try their peanut butter syrup. . I frequent Main St. quite often and I've never been to The Wallflower. To be honest, the first time I heard about it was fairly recent so when my friend Meredith suggested that we go there, I was down.
Location : 99 B-line bus to Main street (Vancouver)
Ambience: loved d wall paintings (apparently you can buy them if you like them)
Food: Best place for vegetarians/ vegans. The Moroccan wrap with red kidney beans stuffing served with soup of the day( which is amazing) is so good !
The vegan cheesecake has a coconut base which I loved the most being a coconut lover .
The Thai kinda veggie dish served with ur choice of bread is not bad !
May seem a bit pricey but food is worth it !
Mount Pleasant is a super hip and happening area and Wallflower Diner contributes well to the entire scene. Once again, I had heard about them on You Gotta Eat Here! and have been looking forward to trying them out ever since.
We visited early on a Friday evening and the place wasn’t too busy. Their purple neon sign makes them unmistakable to find! The space is simple and cool with a neat black and white floral mural on one side. Our server was friendly and the overall vibe of the restaurant is that it’s a casual spot that is welcoming to everyone. (By “everyone” they mean omnivores, carnivores, vegans, vegetarians, and celiacs - there is delicious, edible food for everyone!) It’s a great place to keep note of if you have friends of varying diets.
We sat near the front in a booth by the window and began to look over the appetizing menu. I noticed right away that the music was really, really good. It was all upbeat and fun stuff from the 80s and 90s. I started with a Caesar (Vodka, clamato, worcestershire and tobasco - $6.00) to drink. This was a really good straight forward caesar. It tasted great and had a nice kick to it. I liked the seasoning on the glass rim and I loved the garnish of two giant olives. They also offer a vegan version made with tomato juice instead of clamato.
On the show I saw them make the Meatloaf Wellington (Meatloaf, bacon, puff pastry, vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy - $16.00) and was instantly sold on trying it. However, there is a bunch of stuff on the menu that I would be very interested in ordering in the future; such as the Beef Stroganoff and Grandma’s Fried Chicken. Plus they serve brunch every day until 4pm and I am totally down for that! Meatloaf wrapped in bacon wrapped in pastry can only be a good thing. They make the meatloaf with ground beef and pork, ketchup, pickles (yes!), hot sauce, coffee, and pickle juice (double yes!), among other things. Then they wrap the loaf in bacon and wrap that in pastry... And I can’t think of much else that sounds more delicious than that. Thankfully, it tasted just as good as TV made it sound. The meatloaf itself was tender and super flavourful. The pickle flavour completely came through in a delightful but not overpowering way (although let’s face it, there would have been no such thing as “too much” for me). It was all balanced so well between the meats, vegetables and sauces involved in this creation. The bacon was crisp and so was the light golden pastry. The textures were so excellent and I would absolutely order this again. Plus the sides that were included were fresh and tasty as well. Loved!
In the mood for dessert, we chose the Waffle Banana Split (Gluten free waffle, fried banana, peanut butter syrup and 2 scoops of Say Hello Sweets coconut ice cream - $10.00). I also really liked the sound of the Ice Cream Sandwich (made with a peanut butter chocolate cookie) and will probably try that next time. All I needed to hear was “fried banana.” And “peanut butter syrup” didn’t hurt either. The best part was the fried banana for sure, all warm and caramelized. The ice cream was very nice and certainly didn’t seem to be missing anything in the dairy department (even though it’s dairy-free). I found the waffle a little dry and lackluster, but the sauce punched things up a lot. A good dessert to share.
I really liked this place. It’s a cool and cozy neighbourhood joint. The use of pickles in this place is A+. I like their interesting food ideas and the prices are reasonable as well. It’ll certainly be at the top of my list when I need a place that is accommodating to various types of diets. No bland food in sight here!
Only vegan restaurant I would eat at. I must say, the food and service here was great, by far the best vegan food I have ever tried. I found the burger and vegan chili fries to taste perfect! Like a little broccoli man dancing about in your man. If vegan food isn't your thing, they do offer non vegan food and those were quite good as well. Cheers!
The car-free day on Main Street drove us further from our intended vegan destination. I truly believe that such days actually increase oil consumption and gas emission, instead of its intent to decrease it. Especially by those who know not of it, circulating the neighbourhood trying to find parking and getting caught up in additional traffic congestion. This was my case. And being stalled in two pile ups had us travelling further down Main Street destination, towards downtown. (Majority of the vegan friendly restaurants seem to be located on Main.)
I actually wandered in here once before, months ago, just for a drink while waiting for a ride. I had no idea I stumbled upon a GF gem until yesterday! I googled the place and not realised it was the same one until I walked in. The atmosphere was fantastic and so inviting, even despite my being by myself and certainly one to not enjoy solo outings. I had the salmon benny and a side of poutine. For one, all salmon bennies should have capers, and the Wallflower got this right. But more importantly, GF poutine!! Having a frier for just fries, and using cornstarch rather than wheat flour should be commonplace everywhere because it yields better results - GF or not - so thank you Wallflower, you have seen the light. I'm going back, hopefully soon, and definitely with friends next time!
A cute little place that is consistently busy. Service is friendly and quick. The breakfast poutine was delicious and quite a large portion. We tried the raspberry pie (all their desserts come from the Sunflower Gluten Free Bakery) and were not fans. Our server asked for our feedback and did not charge us for the pie which was very professional and kind. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd highly recommend checking it out!
Great brunch bennies, and super hospitable staff. I feel this place is known for its vegetarian/vegan options (which I don't doubt are great), but there were also a lot of dishes with meat so don't hesitate if you want to try this place as all are welcome here.
Brunch until 4pm is great. Had the crab cake eggs benny and it was delicious. I liked that the crab cakes weren't heavy and made with quinoa- what a nice twist to my favourite breakfast.
I came here with a vegan friend. He ordered some food, but I decided to pass on it and just drink as many $5 Caesars as I could until he finished. They make an OK Caesar. I was sort of eyeing my friends vegan chili fries though to be honest. It looked pretty good for something with a bunch of fake meat and cheese sauce on it. Maybe I will come back and try it some time.
*update*
I came back here again and tried those fries... they were really good. Caesars were still meh though. Changing my rating from 2.5 to 4.0 because the food is good and they have etch-a-sketch. Also the service is friendly.
Vegetarians aren't wallflowers at this hip joint. The menu has as many vegetarian and vegan options, while still offering plenty for non-vegetarians. Pop in for a hearty breakfast or sample a vegan version of Canadian classic, poutine. The atmosphere is great, the music eclectic and interesting, the wait staff attentive and friendly.
Fantastic poutine, great beers, awesome service and some great, eclectic, game-themed decor. The menu is particularly vegetarian friendly, and the vibe is lively and friendly. Great spot for brunch.
Beermosas and tofu thai wrap for days. Easily my favourite Mount Pleasant restaurant and I go out to eat very often!
Plus the staff is amazing!

Absolutely the best restaurant I have ever been to.. I go there expecting to have one main course and always end up ordering another because I just cant help myself. I am a vegan and the vegan options are amazing !! I have almost tried everything vegan on the menu... delicious.
The prices were a bit on the high side, but the food was pretty good. I got the vegan hummus melt with soup. They were both quite flavorful, but they were really strong. The sandwich had a strong garlic taste, and the tomato soup had a strong pepper. It was a bit too much for me, so I wish I could've gotten a different side. I'm curious to try out other items (can't base everything on just one meal).
Went for brunch on a Friday, the place was pretty packed & it wasn't long before people came & went. Ordered a chicken wrap and the order was huge !! Worth $11, included soup as well. The place is kinda grungy but also sweet:) loved the menu design & layout, seemed like they had a ton of options! Brunch is also everyday until 4pm!!
No words. Such yummy food. I know they have healthier options, but hubby loves the amazing perogies, I mean really, they come with bacon. And the Caesar salad is, well, as awesome as their normal salad! I love their Canuck burger, soo yummy--they make me accept the mushrooms as essential to the burger... I've had their daily specials, they're always top notch; their beef Wellington was so rich and flavourful!! And we LOVE their Apple Pie dessert thing as well as their incredible creme brûlée -- none have ever come close. Besides all this, the staff are quirky and awesome
Good food and friendly service. Had a really good veggie burger here, served on a soft herbed bun. There are a lot of veggie and vegan options, but they definitely don't skimp on the meat options. Good place for a quick bite before heading to the breweries and other fun activities in the area.
Not a bad restaurant at all. Service is quick and kind, but you hardly see the server much. Left right after the machine was put in our hands and had someone else thank us for payment. Food was good, portions were large, atmosphere was solid and the company was well rounded. I'd come back again to try their brunch.
Another casual brunch place. Seems like this area has a ton of them but this one is worth the wait. Attentive service, good prices and amazing food. They use good quality ingredients and keep things simple. I have never had a bad meal here, and everything is cooked perfectly. I love the selection of vegetarian and vegan options even though I am primarily a meat eater. Whenever I am craving eggs benny (which is often) this is my first choice.
The Wallflower is no wallflower. The wallflower seems like an ironic title for this outspoken environment. The food was a little surprising. It was different. The decor was basically pop art repeating its self all over the place. The server was intimidating with her tattoos but she provided typical service that you might expect. The layout inside was sort of interesting. Creative and casual. The bathroom wasn't very good. The prices were okay. There was definitely a tattoo theme among those hired to work there.
Vegan magic. How do you make french toast vegan? Clearly with magic. It's hard to find good brunch places that have vegan options that consist of more than just a salad/ fruit. They did a great job creating dishes that don't feel like you're missing out on anything. Great service, but go early for brunch on weekends, as they get quite busy!
The best casual vegetarian/vegan joint. I’ve been a bunch of times now: had the veggie poutine (and breakfast poutine!) and lightening fries. All times I’ve been with meat eaters, and they've loved it too. Great comfort food.
Food is great here but service is a bit slow for a not very busy weekday.
Nice Place. Cool vibe, great food, friendly staff. Zero complaints and will definitely go back!
One of the best vegan friendly spots. Such a cute atmosphere, alwways really busy so hard to get a good table, service is average.. but the menu is great.. i love that they have half the menu totally vegan!! and its all really delicious.
Awesome place but the coffee is the worst on the planet
Not bad. Really enjoy that I can come with my GF allergy friends and vegan friends and all enjoy some comfort food. Sure the food doesn't knock it out of the park but considering the prices (not exactly organic gourmet food), it seems fair. I would come back again for a casual meal that is close to home with friends that can't eat as easily in any restaurant.
The Meatloaf Wellington is to die for. I saw it featured on TV on you Gotta Eat Here and thought it looked outstanding. It was better than outstanding.
Great options, great food. Fantastic food -- maybe the best I've had during my short stay in Vancouver!
For starters, since I was in Canada, I HAD to try poutin. I split the vegan poutin, and liked it. It was interesting (different than the chili cheese fries of the U.S.) but tasty nonetheless. Really, the main course was the tastiest part though. The Vegan Wallflower Burger (with a side salad) was delicious and exceeded expectations. The portion sizes are more than generous, and I was stuffed after eating there. $11 for the burger, $9 for the poutin ($4.50 since I split it with someone) -- more than reasonable for a huge lunch. On top of that, the waitress we had was outstanding in terms of service (as well as her t-shirt, pictured in this review).
I highly recommend this place, especially for those with some dietary restrictions!
Add some colour!!!!. The food is good but wow its not appealing on the eyes... had the duo of dips....beige, mushroom brushetta.... beige and brown..... A bit of attention to detail to what the plate looks like would be great as we do eat with our mouths and eyes!
Good options for vegans and gluten frees which was appreciated!
Great place. I come here often. The food is so good and the staff are really nice - every time. A few more beer choices would be nice, but it's not important in there. I go for the food and atmosphere. Oh, and they don't take debit for payment, but they take credit. A little odd but whatever, I'll keep going!
Awesome gluten free food. Bread is so soft and fresh. Gluten free icecream sandwich amazing
Celiac Friendly!. Very impressed with their gluten-free options. Most restaurants have a couple gluten free items, while this menu consisted of such a vast variety of celiac-friendly options (almost everything on the menu was gluten-free).
They seem very accommodating for a other food restrictions and eating choices (ie. vegan, etc). Definitely our favorite restaurant in the entire GVA.
Good vegan breakfast. My husband and I stopped by on a trip to Vancouver. He had the BBQ veggie scramble, I had the vegan benny. Both were good - not amazing, but good for vegan food at a non-vegan restaurant.
Great brunch!. The vegan 'eggs' bennie is sooo good!
A fabulous place for a butcher and a vegetarian to come together and dine. Yes, this is the situation I am in! I could tell you the ways in which this causes my spouse and I some issues, but after eating here- I was able to forget for a little while. The Cajun tofu appy was the BEST take on tofu I've ever had. Even so that the butcher at the table voluntarily chowed down. Vegan sheppards pie was reminiscent of childhood winter nights. The grandmas fried chicken, I am told, 'must have actually been made by someone's grandma' though I didn't check the kitchen. I'll be back very soon!
Best veggie Shepards pie I ever had. Kudos to you guys. They carry New Grist gluten free beer as well, the best!!!
I took guests from Portland Oregon for an after midnight dinner(they'd just arrived in Van. after a long slow drive thru snow) and it was excellent. 2 of us had the Scrumptious Beef Stroganoff and the 3rd in our party was very impressed by the Canuck Burger. Truly Wonderful late night comfort food!
Loved it!. I'm vegan, my girlfriend is not. This is one of the few places that satisfies us both. The food is great and the staff friendly. As always, specify that you're vegan or gluten-free and the staff will take care of you with excellent suggestions.
I had the Hummus Melt - mmm! We pigged out on Thunder Fries - pretty decadent. My gf loves the Caesar Salad and speaking of salad, I love the dressing that comes with my side salads.
Had the new Meatless Loaf - very nice (I like more of a ketchup-y sauce, can always add some!) The vegan Nachos were great and my gf assures me the Poutine is delicious.
We'll make our way through the menu and see how everything else stacks up - cause we love this place!
Also, we went gluten-free for a week and they have some nice buns! Wish they would make enough to sell to the public.
Great for vegetarians & vegans. Nice appetizers, and vegan(izable) mains. The mac and cheese was a bit scary though: a bit bland and gooey with so much vegan cheese. Still, the salads and starters were great -- maybe the most garlicky homous in the city. Did I mention cheap drinks?
Decent food, and the service is almost there but needs some work occassionally.
A great place for Brunch. This is a wonderful place to go for brunch - GREAT food, paired with a cool atmosphere with wonderful service. I have eaten here over 10 times and every time have left with a smile on my face. The food is always fresh and the daily specials are always a treat. My favorite part is the selection of coffee mugs, I won't say more and ruin the fun :)
Gluten free menu!. Awesome gluten free menu, unlike any i've seen so far. Usually restaurants just advise you to order your meat plain, avoid buns, no fries.... BORING! Wallflower has buns, hollandaise sauce, poutine, crabcakes!! Awesome and great service. Happy Celiac
Average to Good. Went here for br/lunch with friends from out-of-town today. I ordered the vegan mac & cheese (best part of the meal was the side salad), my husband ordered the spinach and tomato eggs benny and loved it (the egg was poached medium instead of soft - i.e. runny...nice!). Friends ordered the crab benny (ok) and the chef salad (pretty good). Three out of four of us ordered coffee which was just ok (even meh). We followed up with excellent cappucinos from Gene instead.
My husband and I will definitely be back (esp. for the benny).
Gluten-Free Pizzas on Tuesday. My girlfriend has a wheat-sensitivity so we were excited to see that Wallflower was offering gluten-free pizzas on Tuesday nights. From what I understand, they scrub down the kitchen the night before to ensure that on Tuesday there is no gluten contamination.
The pizza was excellent, and the gluten-free crust was tasty with a good consistency.
We also ordered the thunder fries - big mistake. It was huge, and fries don't make for great leftovers. If you're craving fries, stick with the half-order lightning fries.
Gluten-free friendly awesomeness. The breakfasts are delicious. they'll do an egg white poached egg for your benny if you have cholesterol issues (just ignore the butter in the sauce :P), switch out toast for glutenfree bread from kinnickinick, happily give you a pot of soymilk for your coffee, and not give you flack for asking about substitutions.
I can honestly say that this is the first place this allergy-prone person can head to and eat without feeling like a restaurant pariah. There were SO. MANY. CHOICES Haven't felt welcomed like this in a very long while.
There's a vegan and gluten free menu if you're so inclined. Just ask when you sit down. They've switched up their entire kitchen so that flour products don't contaminate gluten-free areas. WOOO!
I tried their omelette. For $7 you get 3 fillings (not countingcheddar, which is included), salad, toast (a tasty baby mesclun salad - not bitter and with a light and delicious dressing), and baked hashbrowns. I had shrimp, feta, and spinach in my omelette. NOM.
There's also fillings like cheese, olives, tomatoes, bacon, and numerous others.
My mum tried the crab benny. We were both surprised by the curryish cumin-ness, but it was delicious. It also came with salad and potatoes.
I highly recommend this place for breakfast in general, the quality of the ingredients, the service, and the attention to substitution requirements can't be beat. If you or your loved ones have allergy issues, it's even better.
(and the rotating art exhibitions on the wall are also quite wonderful)
This place is great. The special of the day Portobello mush and havarti spinach quessadilla suprised me with it's greatness:) nice large bathrooms and pretty waitress made it great!!
Vegan & Gluten free evironment. Well, maybe not all the affordable beer/drinks that the Wallflower serves is gluten free but there surely there are many alternatives - You'll just have to ask the server of the day.
The space is endearing and comfortable very much like their menu. What defines them most is their unique dedication to all types of artists in the Main Street Corridor. A great place to hang out away from your cozy apartment nearby, inviting your friends to your second home.
This place is great. Hone style cooking, friendly staff. The customer are the typical mainstreet hipster crowd, but otherwise, all around great eats
Good food and pleasant service. We enjoyed our omelettes. Food tasted fresh and bread used for toast was eceptional on the day we went. Our 7 year old approves too.
A friend & I checked this place out for the first time for lunch the other day, and I was reasonably impressed. Good atmosphere & good service + it is liscenced! The food was kind of average, but had a home-cooked feel to it. Will definately go back.
First off, the reason I "Like" The Wallflower on Urbanspoon is because I'm absolutely in love with the Hummus Melt. If they didn't have that, I would definitely "Dislike" it. Everyone ended up finishing their food and enjoying it. But I've heard there are plenty more other vegetarian restaurants in the city now. Surprisingly enough, the Foundation, which we were originally planning to go but decided not to because they didn't take reservations, was empty.
Just staring at this breakfast poutine is making my mouth water all over again! It is everything I like all put into one bowl, potatoes, bacon, cheese, gravy, and poached eggs. I love it! ...Their vegan Benedict is not what I expected, but I think it is still interesting and good to try. I really liked their vegan sausage though (photo below) it was spicy and really couldn't tell that I wasn't eating meat :) \
Went here for brunch. Was a good vibe inside. Unfortunately our food didn't come out hot, which was disappointing as the flavours were tasty and would have been even better. But a nice spot with lots of tasty menu options.
AMAZING. Love this place, perfect for celiac, vegan and vegetarian. The portions are a bit small but the prices are really cheap! Maximum is probably 20$ for an entree. And happy hour is 3-close every day! Lovely staff :)
I’m surprised to read the view previous to mine had such a bad experience. This was my 3rd time visiting this place and I’ve always had great service! They staff is super friendly! All the GF options are great for all my friends that are celiac. The food here is also great. Good portions! Just look at the chicken club sandwich I had, a thick juicy piece of breast in it!! But on the other hand my fries were soggy. Not a big deal though.
My go to spot for brunch to then go onto happy hour. Vegan friendly and also choices of meats so good for all peoppe! And they've got the best mugs ever. Also nice vibe and nice art on the wall! Definitely reccomend!
Loved the vibe and drinks. The mac and cheese surprised me! Didn't realize it was vegan until I started eating it and definitely didn't taste cheese - I don't know what the alternative was but it was tasty! Will be back during my next trip.
