Review Tipper Restaurant - Vancouver

Gerard ODonnell
A nice neighborhood pub experience. At the recommendation of the very pleasant wait staff, I had the mushroom burger and a pint of something whose name escapes me now. My wife had a spicy grill plate of something, she shared with me a little, both were fantastic dishes. I left feeling happy. It's not a date-night kind of a place really, but if you feel like pub food, then yeah.

Fantastic home made burger. The home made salad dressing, one word- yummm. It feels good to support a family run restaurant. We’ll be back again !!

Classic east van neighborhood grub grab. Great potatoes, and nice sandwiches. Kind and polite staff always welcoming. Kitchen is a bit meh, but all in all consistent. Had a bad experience with some chicken I ate there, but I've been there several times before and never had any issues. Always love the rotating art!

This is a nice place for breakfast with great coffee.

Food is always great, esp the brunch/brekie! Great service, great spot... 🤩

One of our neighbourhood faves. They are always very accommodating to our infant even when we have a stroller in tow. Tons of decent veggie options for brunch and very friendly/helpful staff working here.

Love this place. The service is always amazing and friendly, the food is great, and it's affordable. I usually go for the veggie hash for breakfast, and the potabello Sandwich at night, or the linguini tip. Great place for breakfast, or for dinner.

Must have caught them on a bad day. My wife`s Salmon was over cooked and old ( smelly). The veggies that came with it were a little undercooked. My Portobello burger bun was a little mushy . Left too long on the counter waiting for the fish ? First time this has happened. Usually very good.
Gordon Crum
This was my local for about 3 years. I can't say enough good things about the staff and the food. I have a deep love for this place.
Cynthia Sharp
One of the very best veggie burgers I've ever had, with the option of a gluten-free bun, fresh salads, delicious, healthy meals at affordable prices in an awesome atmosphere with wonderful servers!

We were in there on Friday. About six tables at most had people. We got our wings and drinks quite quick but our food took 40 minutes easy. Fries were way overdone. Had two beer and was charged for three. Not on my repeat list..

Good food without the stupid line up. I like simple things like their white toast and always there to top up my coffee. Just wish their French toast is softer tho.

Excellent food quality, great atmosphere - definitely recommend you try it! Service was very good too!! 5 of us went, all had breakfast items. Tasty!!
Brandon Riley
Nice people, cold beer and the best poutine I’ve ever had
Brooks Van Stavel
Great food and atmosphere! I personally enjoy eating at their bar while watching sports. Also the only restaurant + bar in our neighbourhood!

Delicious food and beer! I love the breakfast. The Tipper is awesome with great staff!

I have been here since it was the horrific E&B diner. I came here with my gf about a year ago and the food was excellent. I even recommended it to several people. We had a guest in from out of town who wanted to take us out for a dinner. We suggested The Tipper. I will try and make this short. The gf and I both ordered the beef burger. Hers was a rock hard hockey puck half the size of the bun. Mine was also burnt to crap. I pulled pieces or charred meat out my burger.litterally just pieces of totally burnt beef. My gf chose to send hers back. They made a new one that was much improved. They removed both burgers from the bill. So at least there was that. I have to mention there 1 other table with people at that time so there was zero excuse for ruining the dinner. Thanks Tipper we most likely will not be back.

We had such a great experience and meal on Friday night we went back on Saturday night for dinner again. We had great service as well as a great meal.. We will be visiting this restaurant again when we come back to Vancouver.

We went to Tipper every morning of our stay in Vancouver! We still dream of those delicious breakfasts <3 much love from Italy

Small friendly place, great service. Local brew and cocktails

Great food and service. Family friendly. Reasonable price. Clean establishment.

A favourite local hangout. Great food, awesome people!

Thanks Colin Shandler (owner) for the great breakfast today and the conversation about eating local and non GMO foods.

Fantastic food! They have a great breakfast selection. Definitely want to go there again. I had the breakfast burrito, which was nice. Everything is freshly made.

Back to The Tipper. After my mediocre experience last time, I normally wouldn't go again, but I was there to meet someone and it was their choice, so I had to make the best of it. I was careful not to order the same thing at least and fortunately had a much better meal this time around.

Service: Server was excellent, prompt menus and asked what we liked to drink. Food came quick. . Bottom line: First time here, my friend recommended it for our dinner. The Red Truck Pale Ale was excellent.... so smooth... I ordered two things because I didn't want a heavy meal, so non-cheat day approved items included Black Bean Salsa Dip and the Sambal Spicy wings. The chips were very unique, it's not chips you could buy at a store, never had anything like it. The samba wings were so good, the deep fry was perfect and it had a really nice kick to it.

Decided last minute to try somewhere new for brunch and The Tipper came up on Google with high reviews! The wait for a table was about 10 min. From before we sat down we could tell the servers were beyond disorganized! The one woman was very friendly but the other 2 working didn't even crack a smile! One of the waitresses went out for a smoke and stood right outside the window! It wasn't very pleasant while eating breakfast! Very distasteful to smoke in front of your customers!<br/>Once we were seated our drink order was taken, 5 min later another waitress came to take our drink order in which we told her it was already taken care of. The second woman then brought us 2 coffees which wasn't what we had ordered with the first woman. Eventually was fixed and got our food order.<br/>The wait for our food was about 20 min. Long but worth the wait…I had the tomato basil and feta omelette which was delicious! And the potatoes on the side were the perfect crispness! My boyfriend got the green eggs and ___! Yum! Eggs were so good! Loved the flavour and spice! <br/>I was highly disappointed with the service! 1/3 people being friendly doesn't make up for the lack or organization! Everyone who walked in for a table was left standing confused because it didn't seem like anyone knew what was going on! There were so many small things that added up to large disaster! We didn't get any cutlery for about 5 min once being served our food! As starving as we were it felt like mild torture! Haha!<br/>Witnessing the other interactions the staff had with customers mimicked our same experience! I don't know if I'll be returning again…

Sunday afternoon, ordered the tomato-basil-feta omelette. Eggs are well fluffy, tomatoes nicely diced, only had a couple chunks of feta but there were delicious = all in all good flavour combo with ketchup. Toast is the McGavin variety, nothing special. Potatoes... Deep fried and thick sliced, came out very hot, perfect crisp, a little heavy on the salt, very oily. Loved the fluffy center in the bite. OJ is the from concentrate non pulp variety, also nothing special. Overall really liked the potatoes, liked the omelette, juice and toast average.

I've been here for various meals, the brekky is always amazing---and our dinner tonight indicates to me that their dinner menu has gotten even better than it was--hubby had beef dip, I had chicken wrap--things we'd both had over a year ago--and they were better made and a better portion, for the same amount. Great local beers, good staff...amazing quality

Best ceasars in Vancouver? It's up there. Didn't have food just alcohol, yes I only go to drink here. My rating is soley based on the ceasar...and the guy who makes the ceasar, he's the ceasar God!
Jennyfer Cassar
Easygoing and laid back service. Varied menu with lots of gluten free options including buns for burgers and bread for sandwiches. We've only ever been for brunch/lunch but have always been pleased with the meal. Everything is made in house and tastes great. Ample seating for groups of 6 in a booth which is nice. They are also family friendly with boosters and high hairs. Overall a great place!

Overdue Review. Worst experience.. This is a pretty overdue review, but it'll definitely help someone out there. A couple years ago, I rented out the back room for my birthday. 40 People, reserved one month ahead of time, though only 30 showed up. We ordered tons of drinks, appies, mains and dessert. And we were treated so rudely, and with such lack of respect I knew I'd never return. <br/><br/>Firstly, half of our food came first. They finished their food, ate their dessert (some of them went home after their dinner) and the other 15 were still waiting on their appetizers . About a fifty minute wait for just average food at best. During our wait, I asked our server, the manager and the kitchen staff why it took so long. "Under staffed" they said, though I booked the dinner party a month in advance. When responding, they were so rude and snobbish I was offended. This place properly ruined everyone's night. Rubbish.

I love this place! We've lived in the neighbourhood for five years and this is by far the best place to grab a quick meal-breakfast or dinner. They have a large menu with lots of variety (including gluten free options). Their burgers and breakfasts are amazing. The owner is super nice and staff are friendly.

Supper & snacks- Yes. Breakfast- NO!. Restaurant itself/seating etc. are comfortable (I love booths!) plus service is quite friendly and easy going. The pub type food plates like burgers are okay (my spouse really enjoyed the chicken burger but thought it could have been more balanced if the portion of chicken wasn't as miserly), but I wouldn't recommend breakfast here. Overpriced for what you're getting, "hashbrowns" had about 60% more salt than needed, the veggie sausage substitute that is $2.50 extra is a jumbo soy hotdog. lol. Coffee was refilled promptly, but I just didn't like it. Tasted like the pot needed remnants of months past coffee cleaned away.

Ive been in this place few times and always wanted to post something.<br/>They open early 8am, great breakfast! My favorite: Nutella French toast and I can add eggs.<br/>They serve late breakfast, awesome for the weekend hungover!<br/>Best burgers in town, really! Whatever you want to add to your burger the cook called Matt, will do!<br/>Chicken burger called cliff is awesome too.<br/>Fresh food, cheap draft moosehead... All kinds of stuff. People this is a place you should try.<br/>Fair prices, good service and excellent fresh food. Cheers!

Kingsway pub. What a great choice here along this stretch of Kingsway! Not enough pubs.<br/><br/>Ordered the seafood melt, w/ plenty of cheese, tasted yummy. Opted for the green salad, also very fresh w/ sliced cucumbers, diced tomatoes, green peppers and the usual good leaves.<br/><br/>Has a few high def tvs, and pretty cool booth seating. Friendly staff, and didn't pressure any upselling for drinks, tho it was only lunch ;)<br/><br/>Also have a pretty good choice for desserts, next time I'll try the chocolate mocha cheesecake.<br/><br/>Plenty parking along kingsway & side streets.<br/><br/>I'll be back. esp for the breakfast served til 5pm daily, just a much better alternative than's Bon's!
Jase And Heth
Good food at a fair price. We will likely try dinner there at some point.

Great Neighbourhood Restaurant. I love this place! We live close by and this is our favorite place to bring friends/family for a good, unpretentious yet stylish pub/restaurant! I love their sambal stir-fry and they make a great burger! Service is always fast and friendly and I love coming back as I get the personal touch since they now know me and my BF. Great Place!

You MUST try this restaurant. Love this restaurant! The staff is always great the food is great and the atmosphere is refined but casual and not pretentious. I own a home in the area which I run as a hotel accommodations for travellers and I recommend this restaurant to all my guests as I am now recommending it to you.<br/><br/>My recommendations are Breakfast there is no where else in the area that serves western breakfast period. Things you must try for lunch and dinner are the Seafood Chowder, Mushroom Burger, Salmon Burger, Tipper Salad with Prawns and any pint on special is only $4.00. <br/><br/>They also have cool music acts in a back room attached to the restaurant and support local artists. Free WIFI and flat screen TV's to watch the games on. <br/><br/>Hope to see you there!
SMG
Meh. Food was...blah. Generic menu, bland flavour, greasy fries. They also advertise "$5 'big pints'" but my bill says $6.25 for one pint and 5.99 for another. I won't be going back.

Meh Food...Cute Server.. Felt like a sit in kind of day, so I decided to go to the tipper with a friend.<br/><br/>Had a Cajun Chicken Burger, and it paled in comparison to the one at Cactus Club. Granted, you are paying 10 dollars versus 15 (though the ambiance is hard to beat ;))<br/><br/>I thought the service was great as expected. Gave time to look at the menu to quality checking and she was cute.<br/><br/>The food left some room for improvement though. Chicken was cooked nicely but the cajun rub needed more kick and the garlic butter felt diluted. No question they use fresh ingredients and have good quality control, but the flavour profiles need assistance.<br/><br/>Friend had a burger with fries - it looked decent, but the fries were Meh (you might want to opt for the salad). Potato cut fries with the skin on them. Not a fan of those, I'd have the Costco ones with batter anyday of the week. <br/><br/>Overall, it's a nice place with reasonably priced beer, great atmosphere - but don't be expecting a fantastic cajun chicken sandwich.

Bad breakfast. The breakfast was very disappointing. Mediocre coffee and eggs. Everything tastes like margerine and they dont have butter as an option. Over priced for what you get. Grimey atmosphere. However service was speedy and friendly.

Best Meal in 2 weeks!. My wife and I had just spent 2 weeks on a Hawaii to Vancouver cruise. After walking around all of Stanley Park on the day we arrived, we needed to find food. Asking the desk clerk at the Days Inn, they sent us across the street to The Tipper. My wife ordered the Wild BC Salmon and I had the Jerk Shrimp and Chicken. <br/><br/>We both agreed, this was the best meal in 2 weeks - this far topped the food served on the cruise ship. Flavor and quality was excellent and the service was efficient and pleasant. Looking forward to our next visit to Vancouver just to return here.

Too busy, not enough staff. The food was good, nothing special. The service was quite slow, it took over 30 minutes for our apps to arrive and then when we were finished, another 30 for our bill to arrive.

Really good diner. Nice atmosphere. Good service. Food was excellent.

Well rounded!. A well rounded restaurant. Great neighborhood place.<br/>Always has a local beer on special and the burgers (beef, buffalo, veggie, portobello or chicken) are always satisfying. Have yet to try breakfast but their burgers, sandwiches, and lunch in general are noteworthy. Prices are reasonable as well!

Went for a few drinks before cool place great staff. Its right across from our hotel. I think its the only bar in the neighborhood

Consistently Great!. I've loved the tipper for years. Great service, great music, tasty food. Cheers!

Firstly , I wasn't expecting such a clean and laid back spot. I was expecting kind of a small diner. Great space , and great service. The waitress sold me on the 3 CHEESE burger. Feta , swiss, cheddar. Yummmm. It was worth the 14 bucks. My friend ate a simple breakfast. He wasn't impressed..but he didn't hate it.

Delicious breakfast, amazing Sweet Sambal wings, some nice Veggie options and it has MOOSEHEAD on tap. All those factors plus the fact this place is 3 blocks from my house has made me a regular here.
Nuphar
The tipper is really yummy for breakfast. We stayed at the days inn which is right across the street and we wanted someplace to have a good meal. It was so yummy I had the simple eggs with rye and my boyfriend had the french toast. Both were Soo good I will be back soon.

A penny is worth a thousand cents.. Upon a revisit to the once favorite of mine, it seems that the young owner, who I will dub as 'C', has become stressed out and lazy in his attempt to perfect orders before releasing them out to the general public. <br/><br/>"A penny for your thoughts" - once said by John Heywood (1546).<br/><br/>That's right, John Heywood... literally! A penny was found in my friend's bison burger. Nice placed in a mixture of onions topped over freshly oxidizing tomatoes. Shiny as the sun shining through the windows. The copper colour glows. My friend, sent the burger back and quickly came another burger as if the topping was just removed and onions placed back on top. Why waste a perfectly made burger right? <br/><br/>The lack of sympathy made the young owner, 'C' clueless of his mistake. As we paid our bill and made our way to leave, 'C' stops my friend and apologizes for his mistake. Too little, too late? 'C' offers my friend a return meal worth $15 and a sincere promise that his food will be better the next time. Will there be a next time?

Great Burgers !. Love the salmon burger and fries... YUM. Really appreciate the high quality. Makes you feel satisfied when you bite into their food.

Great place. Came in for brunch. Everything was delicious and not greasy. Great prices too!

Absolutely Wonderful. I would like to say that going to the Bottle Tipper is a regular and cherished thing. The staff are absolutely wonderful. Such a genuine welcome each time, with my favorite beverage on its way before I ask for it. Their food is yummy and affordable. Most of all; you feel a true sense of community and welcome!!!

Went on a Saturday afternoon. It was pretty quiet so the atmosphere didn't really show up. We had the chicken wrap with salad and the salmon burger with yam fries. The yam fries were mushy, everything else was good but nothing stood as being special. By reputation I was expecting something special, but what we got was only average. I'll try once more and hope I will be impressed.

Satisfaction guaranteed!. Rare are my trips to Vancouver..rarer still is my need to search for a site to rave about somewhere that became one of the highlights of a recent trip but here goes... As unassuming as it is inviting this place is a must visit for those who like the informal dining and drinks experience but what made me return again and again is the polite, warm and efficient customer service displayed by all the staff..each and every one a credit to the proprietor Colin Shandler! Monday night is a blast and well worth the look..and provides a fantastic outlet for talented musicians to show Vancouver what they are made of! A unique idea thats sure to catch on..from local art to event rooms showcasing talent to fabulous food served by wonderful people I suggest you get to Tipper pretty fast and not miss out on a truely unique experience..alas I live in Dublin, Ireland so my visits maybe few but if your in the area pop in tell them the Irish girl sent ya! Im sure you'll thank me ;-)

I will be back!. I had heard the food was good, and it was! The bean dip was totally different than I thought but WOW with the beans, red onion, peppers and served cold and fresh tortilla chips that are SO good, we were already happy<br/>The blackened chicken burger that was named for a couple of guys, ( cliff and ron, bob and ted, who knows!?) was really good should of had the seafood chowder instead of the fries, I tried my friend's and it was above par!!<br/>She had the tipper salad and the chowder and everything was really fresh. We left feeling very pleased about the quaility of food, the price and the service was comfortable.<br/>Great night out, we will do it again, try it for yourself!

Amazing Food and Live Music Monday Nights. The Tipper has a great menu and you can listen to amazing live music from a variety of local musicians every Monday at 8pm for only $ 5. Best deal in town for food and entertainment.

Great service and casual atmosphere. Food is fresh and original!

Warm and Cosy. I have been to this restaurant several times over the last few months and each time I go I feel right at home. The Tipper has that warm cosy feel like I'm visiting a close family friend, especially when the owner drops by your table from time to time with a few kind friendly words. I have always been made to feel like a VIP dining here, even though I'm just a regular diner, now that's service!! <br/><br/>The food also has that fresh home cooked taste, that's hard to come by in most other restaurants. I recommend the bean dip to start, the chips that accompany it are very moreish!! Also the hot skillet plates are amazing!! The creamy creole and jerk sauces are so good you'll be wanting to lick your plate clean. <br/><br/>Whether I'm dropping by for a beer and appy after work or dining with friends, this place always has me leaving with a smile on my face.

Much needed, majestic comfort food!. If you're ever in the neighborhood, or if you're just wanting some cheap comfort food in a quiet and friendly atmosphere, then this is it. The service was attentive and earnest (,almost to the point of disruption). <br/><br/> The main dishes that come with amazing fresh cut fries, house salad or one of the tasty soup available is such a deal. The appetizers and deserts are expensive by comparison, but the chocolate truffle I had was pretty solid (,if a little one dimensional). The seafood melt is orgasmic, but make sure you tell them you want your buffalo burger partially rare; well cook does not a buffalo burger make. <br/><br/> The atmosphere is that of an upscale but understated modern diner. Good drink of the day deal, and a solid draft beer and wine list. An amazing place for a cheap date. They also have functions (a la stand up comedy and music) in their back room stage.

Now that we're in the neighborhood, we decided to try out the brunch places around here. Urbanspoon had high ratings for The Tipper, so we decided to make the visit - turns out we'd been here before. We don't remember much about it aside from the good potatoes - and they're still good! Urbanspoon users were right, this is a great spot for breakfast. We will definitely recommend and return. Now, we just need to try out the place on a Friday night and see what the bar atmosphere is like.

I’ve passed this place countless times but I discounted it as nothing more than an overpriced hipster joint (much like another breakfast place I went to…cough Red Wagon cough). However, since I was already nearby, I decided to do the right thing (from a food blogger perspective) and give it a shot! To start off, we have the Cheddar Mushroom Omelet (10.25). The potatoes were very nicely seasoned and had a nice fried crispiness to them. The omelet itself was surprisingly not very greasy at all, nor rubbery, while still having the cheese inside having a very gooey consistency. However, my only issue with this, was that the toast was LAME. Got me some sourdough…but tasted more like sourdon’t (excuse my lame attempt at a joke lol); it didn’t have enough sourness to it, for my liking and wasn’t quite toasted enough. Next off, we have the veggie hash (10.50). The soy patties in this were surprisingly good! They had an almost stuffing-like quality to them and made the dish very savoury (it kin

This is not a well constructed sandwich. A well constructed sandwich does not fall apart as you eat it. When you order this sandwich, accept the fact that it will get messy.

I’m not 100% sold on The Tipper for breakfast, perhaps lunch or dinner would be a better meal (after waking up and not eating for at least 12 hours previously, sometimes quantity is more important to me than quality!).
Michael Kwan
The Tipper, which is also known as Bottle Tipper, definitely has the feel of a pub or a bar, but they are open for breakfast and lunch too. Taking a look at the menu, you’ll find that nearly everything is in the $8 to $15 range, making for a very reasonably priced meal. From what I recall, breakfast is served until about 5pm too. Most of the fare is basic and simple, including burgers, pastas, and hot wings.

The Tipper. I have been hearing many things about the Tipper, both about the food and the live shows so I had to check it out. I have been twice now and I have had a good meal both times. They have some wicked specials on Tuesdays where you get a burger w
