Great vibe created by a very kind and dedicated staff and wonderful ownership. Don’t miss a night when there’s music; many of Vancouver’s finest jazz players drop in. Tangent Cafe has great food too!
I go here mainly to hear top notch jazz musicians play on Thursdays and Sundays. Even without the live music, Tangent is a wonderful and warm neighborhood spot on Commercial Drive with great staff. The long communal table is also a nice touch.
Tried new spot for breakfast with the family. We will definitely be back again!!!
First, the inside was warm and inviting. Staff was friendly and our server Victoria was great. Definitely a place you can take friends or family too.
Food was great. We only went their for breakfast but considering how fantastic the breakfast items tasted, their lunch and dinner should be as good or better. Review on those for another time.
We ordered their Bacon Eggs Bennie, chorizo scramble (nice heat) cheddar omelett (lots of cheese), pancakes, waffles and French toast (nice balance of cinnamon). All were very tasty, especially their hash browns which were perfect baked potato cubes.
Must try spot for breakfast! You won't be disappointed and place can get busy. Was a full house during our visit.
Had originally wanted to try LIVIA but of course, no where on Commercial takes reservations for weekend brunch (was told a 45-60 min wait). After doing some research, I had put Tangent Cafe down as a back up to check out and headed there. Was immediately seated at a table with no wait. The food was amazing and very filling. I would definitely go again and recommend. ☺️
The family and I went to The Tangent Cafe for dinner this evening. Oh my goodness the wait staff were so lovely. And the food was Devine. The youngest and I stayed back for New York Cheesecake and to listen to the live jazz at 8. What a delusicious way to spend a Thursday in Vancouver.
A nice night out with a friend: live music on a Wednesday. We shared the Malaysian lentil poutine and a Mee Goreng tofu noodle dish. Very nicely spiced (both dishes) and flavourful. Adequate sized tofu chunks in the noodle dish. Have never experienced a lentil poutine prior but was pleasantly surprised- mmmm cheese curds, what could be better. Enjoyed the cocktails as well- unique finds using a variety of ingredients/liquors.
Beer was okay, but Malaysian poutine was amazing! Will definitely comeback for the rest and live jazz🎵
Came here for brunch with a friend! Did not wait long for a table on the patio, which was nice as it was one of our rare sunny days in Vancouver. The patio has clear outdoor curtains which made it very warm.
The crab cake benny was delicious. My egg was cooked as I had asked (soft poached) and the fries were crispy and tasted freshly deep fried.
My friend had the bacon benny and also enjoyed it!
Drinks wise he had the mimosa (a classic) while I had an iced coffee, which the restaurant was very accommodating to make.
Well done Tangent! Great server, best brunch.
Any Benny would satisfy I'm sure but the Bacon, Brie, Apple was a winner. Partnered with a FRESH fruit salad and bottomless coffee. So good. Kudos to the Smoked Meat hash.
Came in on Thursday night for live jazz. It was really nice to be back in a restaurant enjoying live music. The servers were all really attentive. Every server on shift touched our table to check in on us. It was a bit disappointing that they were out of some ingredients for their negronis, but the servers helped us find other options we would enjoy. Food was great as well. I’ve been for brunch too, but the atmosphere for live jazz is so much more
Fun!
