It's my personal fave Korean place here in Vancouver and the food is just as good as the best Ma and Pop shops in Korea. Delish!
I really enjoy eating here. The kimchi is nice, the staff is earnest and kind. But what I think is best is sitting down and sharing a meal with my friends, nothing can beat that. Thank You MDG!!!!
Friendly staff, great food, you must stop by for a meal if you are in downtown!
I love Ma Dang Goul. Very authentic, homestyle Korean cuisine. The best you will find in Vancouver! ☺
One of my favorite Korean restaurants in Vancouver! Best quality authentic food! Especially love their fried chicken:)
Yummy vegetarian options! Simple decor, friendly efficient staff :)
Great bbq and soup combination menus and friendly servers. Highly recommended for authentic tastes of korean foods!
mmm yummm :) spicy chicken!! good as always on every visits.
THE BEST KOREAN Authentic restaurant in CANADA!! MUST TRY!
For a simple meal in the summer, the Korean Cold Noodles (Mulnangmyun) at Ma Dang Goul is perfect for a warm weather. They also serve most of the typical Korean fare here, such as Bibimbop, Beef Bulgogi, Japchae, and Kimchi Fried Rice. I did feel for the poor server girl who was working all by herself, but she was nice and friendly in spite of always running around.
For the longest time I (falsely) assumed that anxiety and stress were strictly confined to the mental/emotional processes of the brain. But lately I've been hit with a new reality: stress can manifest in entirely physical ways. I've been waking up 3-4 times in the middle of the night for the past few weeks. I've minimized sound and light, yet I'm still waking up every two hours. I'm exhausted. Fragmented sleep does not make for quality sleep.
Meal: Uh.... Cold noodles, mild, with brisket slices, Hot soup with rice cakes, dumplings, potato noodles and egg swirl, and bbq short ribs. (I really don't remember the Korean names for these dishes). Atmosphere: Pretty small, dark restaurant. . Service: Better than most Korean restaurants.
A small gem in the neighborhood. I ordered the Dol Sot Bi Bim Bob with pork. It was really tasty. And it also came with 4 side dishes. Good food and good service, will try again for sure.
Best Korean hot pot we ever had. My wife enjoyed to the core, she ate more than her appetite 😄😄😄. Very friendly service, looks the receipe is from the owner grand parents.
If you're not shovelling boatloads of food in your face in fat pants and baggy shirts on your birthday in a tiny Korean hole in the wall, you're not living. It only took me 28 years to figure it out but no lesson is worth learning unless it's learned the hard way.
If you've been following along, you probably already know about my recent almost debilitating obsession with chi-mc, the deadly combination of Korean fried chicken and beer, but if I wasn't in trouble before, I definitely am now.
Had a really good experience here, even though I was sick and hardly could taste a thing. The pricing is reasonably here, especially since its in downtown, and the service was fair! I would defs want to come back, once I can actually taste my food.
The place was jam packed and lively. My friend had suggested the place as she was into Korean cuisine at the time. My other friend was also into it, so two friends, Sheepie and I went. There was about 5 minute wait at the door. No water arrived until we asked for some. It was quite crowded. 5 different side dishes of banchan. Salad was meh… Not much of a fan of the jelly squares.
I like the soups and noodle. The dumplings are filled with meat. They give you free unlimited side dishes. Kimchi is good. Good value and tasty! This place is recommended by my Korean friends.
This hole in the wall on Denman is an excellent choice for some quick Korean food. Prices are decent, won't break the bank. Servers are nice. Food came out quick.
March 10, 2016 · by ThatShanghaiGirl · Solid, well-made Korean food on Denman! Service was pleasant, and although the space is quite small it wasn’t uncomfortable. Probably wouldn’t
One of the first few korean restaurants i've ever tried in my life, one of them will be mdg, i don't recall what's good on this restaurant, so i decided to give it another try after all these years, and tried a few items, soups, regular items such as, bulgogi, tofu soup, and galbitang, if i'm not mistaken, everything is alright, and tasted okay, but nothing really stands out from the korean food competition that is crowded in vancouver. I would say maybe the spice and flavourfullness of korean food might be a one trick pony. but nevertheless is a decent korean food from this visit. but nothing spectacular. unless again i ordered the wrong items.
Yep it's cosy and tight, but really enjoyed the food. While I haven't tried enough of their spread, the mackerel and bimimbab stone bowl combos were fantastic, and the kimchi is quite good.
The service is a bit slow but mainly because they understaff the place, but the people who are working are really busting it. A busy weekday lunch took 45 minutes. Would definitely be back!
MDG is a good place for Korean fare. All the dishes appear to be fairly priced and there is a decent selection of dishes. The soups that we had were decent, but the general feeling was something was missing. The Wu Goe Ji Hae Jang Guk was tasty, but we found the flavor to be lacking depth. While the Galbi Tang was full of beefy flavors, I felt that it was missing something simple like potato starch noodles to be complete.
Service wise, be prepared to wait. MGD is busy and the servers are often running around quite a bit. If you need something, be sure to flag a server down with conviction – otherwise you will be ignored.
Favourite Korean place in Vancouver. Service is always fast and efficient and they make great Food. The space isn't all that big but turnover can be fairly quick which makes the wait not that bad.
Grayson and I were up for Korean food this past weekend so we decided to try MDG after a day at the beach!. Mul Mandu ($5.95): boiled pork dumplings. These dumplings were awesome! They had loads of filling on the inside so you didn’t feel like you were just eating “dumpling skin.” The pork on the inside was moist, well seasoned, juicy and went perfectly with the soy based dipping sauce
Good priced BBQ + Soup Combos. Good deal combos priced around $15 and you get to choose a hot soup and an iron plate of bbq meat (include a bowl of rice). I would highly recommend not to order the galbi short ribs without the combo, as it is very small portion that cost $17 and no soup! My friends and I really enjoyed the selection of banchans provided (bean sprouts, salad, kimchi, mung bean jello, and sweet potato) and they were all deliciously made. We also had no issues having the waitresses refilling the banchans for us as well. Overall, it was a pleasant visit and I would return again!
Love this place for the pork bone soup, and delicious sides
MDG offers the most authentic Korean food in Vancouver and every dish i tried here was very tasty. I especially love their bbq combo. A must try! And for sure it is the best Korean restaurant in town!
Amazing! I was one in a party of 3 and we all ordered the bibimbap. One chicken, one beef and I got the seafood bibambop. SO YUMMY! The food well presented, in hot stone bowls of course, the rice at the bottom gets nice and crispy, the service very friendly and we even received good amounts if complimentary Kim chi, potatoes and salad. In addition the price is right. I will be back for more!
Confusing menu. Please reorganize your menu. They list the same dish on different pages which makes it so confusing (especially for non-Koreans). We tried our best to described to our server what we were looking for. Bul gal bi $14.95 (comes with a soup) It was good but smaller compare to most Korean places. Spicy pork with vegetables $14.95 - I think it should come with another soup but it didn't? Sogogi Chap Chae $14.95 - I think we asked for the veggie one ($10.95) and she upgraded it and it came with beef. Bi Bim Bap $10.95 - it didn't have any meat and it was a little on the drier side. It was hard to catch the attention of the servers especially when you ask them to refill your appetizers. At one point, she wanted us to leave and left the bill on the table (with no lineup). Good food but please don't expect any service. Also, this place does not offer DIY BBQ. Everything is done in the kitchen.
Tasty Korean. I am a big fan of Korean cuisine, and this restaurant was a good experience (I can tell, my expectations are quite high regarding Korean food!) The setting is pretty basic, service efficient, kind just as necessary (let's say they don't overdo it) but the essential is here: good food, spicy soups and good prices. A good place!
Want some real Korean foods?. Personally, fusion Korean foods? never like them!
Try Ma Dang Goul. The real taste of Korean foods. Som of them look...weird..but tasty! Love their Kimchi!!
Great food for the good price. I'm not really familiar with Korean cuisine, but I can sure tell a good BBQ apart from others. For $14 you get a good amount of food that is tasty. Also comes with a side of soup and rice that fills you up!! 8.5/10
Close to tasting like home past the Pacific Ocean. Ma Dang Goul is one of the better Korean restaurants in downtown Vancouver. Korean restaurants on Robson/Denman tend to make their dishes sweet...too sweet. Also looks like some ingredients are lacking in tofu hot pot or bibimbaps. I've tried Ma Dang Goul twice and it provided the right spiciness and depth of a good Korean hotpot. I like the fact that you can choose your own side dishes. I hate the sweet&sour seaweed banchan so I would rather have the option to choose another side dish. Haven't been there for awhile, i hope this banchan option is still valid!
Outstanding Korean restaurant. This place is great! Tough to find a seat sometimes, but worth it if the wait is tolerable. This is one of our favorite places to eat, and it is so affordable.
Good Korean Food!. I am a Korean food lover and somehow, I haven't had a chance to try Ma Dang Goul till yesterday. I had Ddeok Man Du Gook (rice cake and dumpling soup) and my friend had bul-go-gi. We also ordered some side mool man du (boiled dumplings) and all of it was so good.
Above all, I really liked their Kim Chi. Trust me, I know my Kim Chi. All of it, came to less than $25 for two. An awesome deal. I would definitely come back for more. :)
The best of Korea .... True food..... I have been at least 12 times... All I can say ia a big spicy yummmmmmmmmmmmm
When you want high quality, authentic Korean food at a good price, give this place a try. It's not a fancy, happenin' joint ... indeed the decor is pretty basic ... but sometimes it's sufficient to have a diverse selection of delicious dishes served up efficiently.
This place is a Chowhound's dream. Seriously old school, Mama San's cooking, a menu the size of a text book, specials on the wall (try them ALL), homemade kimchi plus efficient snappy service. All so reasonably priced- u must go there
Best homemade kimchi ever and most everything else is good. I am a regular now and have been for a few months.
There are many Korean restaurants in the West End, but Ma Dang Goul (MDG) has been one of our go-to places for Korean homestyle comfort food. Their food is tasty, portions are reasonable and prices are not the cheapest but fair for the area.
The kimchi was so so yummy. They also sell home made kimchi in a jar. Then the star of the night arrived :) Looking delicious to me! Waited for our bowl of rice and we started digging in. Yum yum yum! Soup was very
There wasn’t overwhelming flavours - the soup base was mild. There was enough to fill the both of us up. The only downside was the vegetables became really soft if you didn’t take it out quickly enough
Ma Dang Goul is a small restaurant on Deman St. Small but the menu is full of choices. Not many people notice this hidden gem since it’s not on Robson St. However, people who has visited will always come back.Ma Dang Goul’s seafood pancake, bi bim bap and tofu soup are...
Madanggoul has been ma favorite Korean restaurant in Downtown Vancouver for a number of years now, with Hanwoori being ma favorite in Burnaby. =) & There are only two favorite Korean restaurants on my list actually! =D Hanwoori won Best Korean 2010 by the
Korean restaurants usually tends to serve the tastiest bbq short ribs (only if it's done right). On this particular day, I decided to pay a visit to one of my favorite Korean Restaurants Ma Dang Goul. This place serves some of the tastiest Korean dishes.
While digging through some old photos, I stumbled upon this little treasure that I had at a restaraunt called Ma Dang Coul located on Denman Street in Vancouver, BC.
Despite the fact that Korean food is not my all time favorite cuisine, I do tend to find myself craving it from time to time. Here are some traditional dishes they do extremely well, such as their homemade...
I absolutely LOVE Soju. Soju is a Korean vodka that goes very well with meals. Some people drink it straight from the bottle in shot glasses. The Soju drink above is mixed with a yogurt drink, which you find in small little bottles in Asian supermarkets.
Went to this Korean restaurant last Saturday for dinner. This is my fourth or fifth visit. I should say this is my favorite Korean restaurant in Vancouver. The food here can give you a "home made" feel in every single bite. Ma Dang Coul is a relatively sm
Now that I am settled (work-wise) in Vancouver West End, where to go for lunch should not be a problem, right? I mean, all the options around… Well, actually that might be the problem. Too many places, which o
Visitors on yelp.ca write glowing reviews about Ma Dang Coul’s “truly homestyle cooking”, the “best kimchee in all of Vancouver”, and describe the restaurant and food as “inexpensive, tasty, warm and welcoming”. My friend who lives two blocks away goes th
Good customer service but more importantly the food was fantastic. Got the daijigalbi (pork marinated in spicy chili sauce) and it was perfect. Plus the price point is great with all the additional traditional sides you usually get in Korea too. We’ll be going here pretty often in the future for sure!
We tried the cold noodle (냉면) dish and the yangyeom chicken. The cold noodle dish was great according to my girlfriend, but the chicken I had a couple of issues with.
First was that the actual wings were pretty small. Under the thick layer of breading, there seemed a relatively small size wing in there.
The second was obviously the breading that I touched on before. It was way too thick and the texture that the thick layer of breading gave was way too hard to chew. I tried a lot of Korean fried chicken and this wasn't the best in my opinion.
However, I thought the flavour of the sauce was really good and the cold noodle was apparently really good as well so maybe they just had an off day.
I'd give my experience about a 3/5 but my girlfriend said hers was a 5/5 so we meet in the middle :)
Food was amazing. Service was alright — it looked like they could have used one more person to help with the volume of takeout orders they were also getting. We had our tea refilled once, and our side dishes refilled once. (The Kimchi was delicious!) Then we were left alone and had to wave them down to pay the bill. It would have been nice to be checked in on at least once more.
The picture I took does not do this meal justice. WOW that was good.
Went with my dad for dinner. He’s become obsessed with Japchae lately. That was really good but the Spicy Pork Belly stole the show. SO tasty and a nice sear.
Great meal. Great portions. Great service. And warm Sake.
I got the Kimchi Jigae, and it came in a sizzling hot plate with complimentary white rice and Korean side dishes. The meal was amazing! The service was also exceptional. Our server in particular respectfully turned away while we paid for our bill. I don't feel very comfortable when some servers hover over you while you're using the card machine, so that was greatly appreciated. Thanks for making us feel welcomed, and we would for sure visit again!
It was a snowy day. My friend and I ,female, have been chatting about how to nourish our stamina and “Chi”. We found MDG on Denman after browsing through pages of Google search results for ginseng chicken soup. Samgyetang is dying in the Vancouver Korean food scene. As saddening as the reality is for Samgyetang, we decided to walk in to MDG on a Friday evening. It’s a full house. Our servers were all young Korean guys and we appreciated the authentic Korean touch. The vibe was great. People seemed to be enjoying themselves. The food was impressive. One spoon of the soup from the Samgyetang said a lot: the Ginseng aroma and taste filled the mouth, the chicken tender and mildly seasoned, the glutinous rice fillings was full of taste from the chicken, the garlic and red dates blended well in the chicken soup. Can I say it’s the best soup I have ever had? I wish my English vocabulary was richer so I could write a review that truly reflects how divine the dish was. We also got their Beef Dolsot Bibimbap and it’s so good we could not stop wanting more. We had half of the chicken and a bowl of rice that accompanied the soup to bring with us. The price at MDG is surprisingly reasonable considering the location and food quality. One of the best Korean restaurant I have been to!

Arrived on a hungover Sunday for lunch before starting work near by. The vibe was perfect. Rainy day with frank Sinatra playing time at just the right volume. Ordered the Bulgogi Dupbop (stir fried beef bulgogi with veggies on rice). I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect dish in the state I was in. Kimchi spice hit the spot and those potatoes were addicting. The beef was fresh and perfectly cooked. Server was warm and friendly. Will definitely be coming back real soon
Received some of the best service I have had in quite some time. MDG was slammed on a Tuesday night and the one server who was working went above and beyond to give us the best experience. They were short staffed because they had people call in sick but our guy was hustling and doing his best. We really appreciated his kindness and also the incredible food we got to eat. We especially loved the seafood pancake and the side dishes!
