Review Basil Pasta Bar - Vancouver

Kate Saychaleun
The slogan doesn't necessarily align with the pricing of the pasta dishes here, but is rather average price to me. I truly enjoyed eating here though, the service is amazing, food is fast, the bar is small but cozy and warm. The portion is a lot (in my opinion, although I generally do not eat that much so... this is subjective) which is great. I had the salmon dish, it was perfect - not too salty. One thing I wish could be better is the noodle, I thought it could be a little less hard, but maybe I'll just have to tell the cook next time. Overall, I am glad to have found this awesome place. It's a cute and casual destination.

The place was empty in Sunday at noon. The receptionist was not particularly nice. I order "built your own pasta" - pasta in rose sauce. It was a bit spicy (the receptionist didn't mention it in advance). Also she gave me the dish in a plastic bag, without cutlery (lucky I checked). I don't recommend eating here.

Tried Chicken Curry Fettuccine Pasta and a bowl of veggie soup. Both the dishes tasted nice.... Since the dining area and the cooking area are not separated, guests would have to bear the frying/cooking smell. If that's okay with people then go ahead and enjoy the food, or otherwise prefer taking away. Overall the food was tasty. ....

Don't ever order minestrone soup. You will be heavily disappointed. It is tomato puree with giant pieces of veggies. Pasta was horrible. Bunch of Asian folks making Italian food. Do I need to say more????

Just arrived in Vancouver and wanted to do a pickup order for supper. Found the Basil Pasta Bar on Davie St. It’s a tiny location and very busy. As this was new to us we wanted to read the menu which was difficult to do as people were coming and going and it is still Covid times. Lots of menu choices. Finally placed orders for Penne Arrabiata and Mediterranean Penne. Staff were accommodating to alterations or additions. Prices were reasonable and portions large. Both pastas were still hot when we got home. The tomato sauce on the Arrabiata was so delicious, the Mediterranean didn’t appeal to me as much. But none the less it was still very good. Pastas were cooked perfectly. Will definitely return to try other options.

This pasta restaurant is quite unusual. I'll try to put it as nicely as possible. Your portions are really big. You also use fresh ingredients, that's obvious and you can taste it. All you need now is a recipe, because the way you do it is a real shame for the ingredients. Work on it, then maybe you could be a really good pasta restaurant.

They offer affordable meal and in a way they make it happen. I had Chicken curry fettuccine with extra goat cheese. - Flavor: Regular it feel like no seasoned, unfortunatelly pasta was not on point bit hard to eat - Portions and presentation:Excelent, like I did get a good extra goat cheese, I feel it need like a side or amenitie at least bread - Service: I have mixed views I just would say is not excellence - PRICES: Still not sure since the main part of dish is pasta, it was enjoyable, ingredients seem quality but cooking was poor performed...for 3 extra dollar I'd get a steak platter somewhere else . Is really mixed feeling bein here

Love this place. Close to my place I always order takeout, so I can't speak to the dine-in experience. Takeout is always fast, good sized portion, staff are friendly and helpful. They have a fairly extensive menu I typically order from the "Build you own Pasta - No Limits" menu so add as many vegetables as you like. Great price for the amount you received. I love both there Rose and Alfredo sauses and I'm not a fan but I understand the make a Pesto Cream to die for as my friend put it. I'm sure the other sauces are great too I've just not got around to try them all. In summary, great food & selection, fast service, friendly staff and reasonable price.

I was craving some good old fashioned pasta so I did a search on Yelp and came across the Basil Pasta Bar on Davie street. The online menu showed a large variety of delicious sounding pastas and the majority of them were priced at $8.95 so I had to check this joint out. The restaurant itself is located on Davie street right off the Granville strip. The interior itself is pretty small and the atmosphere is fairly average but I wasn't there for the decor, I was there for the pasta! Once inside you order your meal up at the counter and when it's ready they'll bring it out to the table for you. To start I ordered the Caesar Salad which was fantastic, loaded with fresh romaine lettuce, croutons, capers, parmesan cheese and creamy caesar dressing. I also ordered a side of the Garlic Bread, I really enjoyed it, it was a dark focaccia type bread oven baked to perfection with garlic butter, so tasty. Since I knew I was going to be reviewing the restaurant later on Yelp I ordered three pastas so I could taste a few of the most popular dishes all at once. The first pasta I ordered was the Penne Arrabiata, it was served up with a spicy tomato sauce, chorizo sausage, red peppers and garlic garnished with fresh parsley and creamy goat cheese, I absolutely LOVED it, it would most likely be my go-to choice. My second choice was the Fussily Primavera and it was absolutely LOADED with broccoli, zucchini, red peppers, carrots, tomatoes, spinach garnished with extra virgin olive oil and parmesan cheese, the dish was light, tangy and full of flavour! My third and final choice was the Chicken Curry Fettuccine which had the house special curry cream sauce with chicken, red peppers, peas, spinach garnished with fresh oregano, this was the only dish that was empty at the end of my meal so maybe it was the best of three? Who knows you'll have to go down and try them all for yourself. You be the judge! In conclusion I absolutely loved this little hole-in-the-wall pasta joint. The prices were EXTREMELY reasonable, the portions were big, the service was great and most of all the quality of all three pasta dishes were well above average. If I'm ever in the area I won't hesitate to return!

fIrst time here . The staffs are super nice and warm . The tomato soup was tasty. The pasta portion is super huge. I would give it 10/10. Highly recommended this place for a easy weekday dining:)

Portion size is good prompt service, kinda cramped go eat in, but for a quick meal downtown, it was fine

Love the food and environment. First time I tried custom design pasta.

its a great place to go and replace dinner.. They have such great selections.

We used to come here all the time when we first moved into the area...we always loved it, but in the last year it has gone extremely downhill. A few months ago it took an hour to get our take out pasta, a month after that, I ordered the linguine aoili, what I normally order, and there was SO much water in the box that I couldn't eat it. It was like goat cheese water and pasta. Gross. Tonight was the last straw. My fiance orderd gnocchi, we got it home...and there was no gnocchi in the box! Just sauce, meat, veg and cheese. We called to complain, and returned 15 min later. When we showed them they insisted there was gnocchi. IF there was...there were maybe 5 pieces, and they were EXTREMELY overcooked and mushy...so much so that I still believe it was cheese. They argued and argued with us saying thats what happen when you get it to go. Weve had that meal to go many times and its never been an issue. Instead of just refunding the $9 and saying sorry, we were treated very rudely. When we got the new gnocchi home, It was only sauce and gnocchi, none of the veggies or meat that had been ordered. 3 strikes your out. Such as shame.

Everything was really good, I’ll come back very soon to have one of the greatest pasta in town!

Loved my pesto shrimp pasta so Delicious! Such a lovely place!

Still my absolute #1 choice when it comes to pasta. Affordable. Quantity. Quality. Delicious. An idea: Bleu cheese crumbles as a cheese option! YUM!

Ashley Robertson
The food was great and quick, will come back again!
Derrick Sim
Great selection of pastas and great prices if your in the area make sure you drop in and check this gem out
Denis Richer
Such friendly staff and the food is amazing and fresh.
Krystle Charlton
Nasty!!! ordered on Uber eats, "sauce" was just tomato sauce with no herbs or spices, ordered bolognese but got maybe one tblsp of ground beef, also came with a large amount of cheese just placed in the middle and it was all congealed but not put under heat for melting. Ended up getting really sick and missed a day of work. would not recommend at all. Also, the "garlic bread" they serve is disgusting! never in my life have i thrown out garlic bread but this had no garlic and was just these burned dried herbs. So gross!

This place is not so big. A really small pasta place filled with amazing flavours. I tried Mediterrenean Pasta- which was in pesto sauce & is a must try!!
Last time I had pasta in rose sauce.. it was just superb! I am dying to go there again!
😋😋😋

Food was delicious and affordable. Its a small place but the staff is very friendly. I ordered shrimp linguine and it was amazing. Grate view of the street.

We ordered 2 dishes via takeout: The "Pesto Shrimp Linguine" and the "Coconut Cream Ravioli." A few complaints:- We paid an extra $1.50 on each dish for "double the meat." One dish had 3 thumb-size pieces of chicken in it. The other had about 6-7 small shrimp. Literally a waste of $3 - Both dishes were surprisingly bland. Homemade pasta with store bought sauce is far more flavourful then what we tried.
- The takeout portions are significantly smaller then the in-house portion. I could have eaten both dishes to myself, and still been hungry. It's cheap and quick, but really disappointing. Making pasta at home is far superior.
EATeatEat
The pasta were cheap and it tasted like it. The pasta were tasteless, and watery. If you had Italian pasta before you know that the pasta here is nothing like it. It was just really awful and I had a really bad experience. I went with 6 friends, four ordered the smoked salmon (because the cashier said this is one of their best), the other two ordered the meat ball and shrimp pesto. None of our dishes tasted any good, and we weren’t happy at all. It is just disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend.

One of my favorite pasta place of all time. Not only the price and portion are good but the pasta actually is quite tasty. Don't go there when you are in a rush because they are busy with only 1 chef so it takes a while to have the pasta.
Eastvanfoodie
First time trying Basil. Ordered through Foodora. Got 2 different dishes and garlic bread. It was all awful. Literally inedible. The pasta had no flavour and did not taste like any of the ingredients were fresh. The bread was stale and hard and did not even taste like garlic bread. It all went in the trash after a couple bites. Super disappointing.
Jentaro
Ordered take-out for lunch and got delivered through Foodora. Large portions for a decent price. I really liked the build-your-own-pasta style. Partly why i really enjoyed my pasta was because I got to choose all my favorite ingredients :D
Eatmunchlove
Best pasta place for those who like variety because you can make your own pasta dish! It reminds me of a pasta version of chipotle. You can pick your pasta, sauce, veggies, protein and garnish! I got mine with fussilli pasta, marinara sauce, shrimp, spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, red peppers, and basil. It was so good and I love that you can put together your ideal pasta dish because I'm one of those people who always ends up changing one thing on the dish when ordering. They also have a specialty curry pasta sauce which was intriguing but I wasn't adventurous to try it just yet.

We were looking for a decently priced place to eat and decided to check this place out based on reviews. Ordered a made to order linguine in Bolognese sauce with chorizo, bacon, spinach and mushrooms... Extra spicy... It was fantastic! Hubby ordered the fusilly with chicken in house sauce and he loved it too... Service was great... The girl at the counter was helpful with suggestions and friendly. It's a small restaurant but if you are looking for a place with good comfort food that's cheap with great service, check this place out!

Looking for some cheap eats and great tasting pasta? Basil Pasta Bar is definitely the place to go. The restaurant is smaller in size and seating can be limited. We waited about fifteen minutes for two dishes. It is worth checking out if you are in the neighbourhood!
Buffy
Delicious! I will definitely come back! I had the four cheese ravioli. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was delicate and creamy❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jane Chang
I love coming here! The portions are pretty quite worth what you pay for and so is their food. You basically customize your own pasta, which makes it pretty fun. Service was pretty nice too. The only thing about this place is it's relatively small and there is very limited seats. We kept hitting our chairs with the people sitting behind us because it was so tight. In fact we barely squeezed into our seats. Nevertheless, it's definitely food worth trying!
Navid Shahram
Amazing joint. Affordable and great portions. You have the option of creating your own pasta without the up charge. Staff is friendly and ingredients are fresh.

Basil Pasta Bar in Downtown Vancouver has been around for quite sometime now. They started business in 2010 on Davie as a budget-friendly, pasta-focused eatery with entrees under $10. They offer both house special entrees, chef daily specials as well as build-your-own pasta options. This past week, I decided to give Basil Pasta Bar a try by ordering takeout via foodora.

Really enjoyed this place and the food. Staff friendly and welcoming. The Penne Arrabiata was very good. Appropriate portions. I'd say an awesome value and great taste. Not fine dining, but for a quick lunch/supper that has great flavour- it's perfect.

Quite impressed! They give a decent quantity for the price. I got the spaghetti puttanesca sans anchovies and it was delish. Brought it to work and got many comments on how good it smelled. Def going back!

Basil Pasta Bar (百搭義大利麵小餐館)

Lemon Chicken Penne $8.95
~ 由於加入檸檬汁吃起來帶點酸味,感覺怪怪的。雞肉太乾不好吃 (3/5分)

Coconut Cream Ravioli $9.95
~ Ravioli的餡料是芝士薯蓉,醬汁味道香濃。雞肉太乾不好吃 (4/5分)

This location of Basil Pasta Bar is set in a more bustling, loud location which I didn't particularly like. But what I did love is the funky decoration on the walls and the rich, filthy good carbonara. The pasta is certainly affordable, hence the slogan. 8.95 for all the pastas is a very good deal, especially a lot of other pasta places have pasta that are 12-15 dollars. I think I like the Kits location better- it's quieter and more spacious. Still, it is some delicious pasta!
Simon
Basil Pasta Bar (on Davie) has a dingy, dilapidated feel to the small place. Window seat is still the best because people don't bother looking in, and hey, it's Yaletown -- chances of a really cute/hot girl walking by once every 2 minutes or so are pretty good. Portion sizes are good so their ad copy is no lie. For under $10 (usually $8.95) you can have a filling lunch of pasta. However, taste is mediocre, probably because the sauce tasted thin. Lots of pasta, yes, but you miss the richness that comes from good sauce. After all, pasta really just moves the sauce from the plate to your mouth.
Justine
This place has good deals on combos and their delivery area is very large. Very tasty and affordable. The menu has every kind of pasta you can imagine. delivery is late and always fast!

Worst Pasta in Vancouver!!! Extremely disappointing experience with the food from Basil Pasta Bar. The spaghetti and meatballs that they're so proud of was horrible and incredibly bland. I don't want to sound harsh but it was like eating noodles with water...My husband had the BC smoked salmon fettuccine and it was a watery mess. We couldn't finish it even though we were starving. Lastly, we had high hopes for the carbonara but it was also very underwhelming and a huge waste of money. To be honest, it tasted worse than some of the frozen pastas you can buy at the supermarket. Oh and do not get the garlic bread! It was burnt and hard. I can't believe they serve that junk to their customers.
If just one dish was bad, I would've thought it was a coincidence but after being let down by all the dishes we ordered, I think this restaurant doesn't know how to cook pasta properly and fools customers with their prices. Never going back and I advise people to stay away.

I went here with some friends because they said that this place had really good reviews but my experience didn't match them. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was really small. Also I could only see two people working at that time and one of then was going back and forth from the kitchen to the register. I chose to make a custom dish. I ordered the spaghetti with carbonara sauce with shrimp (because the bacon was unavailable), mushrooms, corn, basil, and Parmesan cheese. The pasta was undercooked and watery. The sauce was bland and there was too much basil. Even though it took a long time, the food seemed "rushed". Many people have had good experiences at Basil Pasta Bar and this could have just been a bad day for them, but I would not go back.

This is a tough one to rate. I was thinking lower but something prevented me to do so.

The ratings were high and there were alot of mixed reviews. I took a chance to try it for myself, everyone's vision and palates are different, as well as experience. Service is quick and friendly. A few plates had chips in it and that's not good, chips have bacteria in it. I ordered the penne chorizo sausage, bolognese sauce. I asked for the cheese/garnish on the side, since all the photos were caked with SO much cheese.

After looking at it, it's loaded with grease from possibly the meat, or the cook used too much oil perhaps. It's a huge portion... And after a few bites I looked around and saw regular patrons talking to the staff. I'm just assuming, the ratings are so high because of the locals? There wasn't any wow factor other then the massive portions that will make you groggy afterwards. Also the price point is very affordable when it comes to downtown.

I'm not gonna knock it, I'll say pass. I grew up poor and anything on the table I was blessed. If your asking for wow factor there isn't any. But if your looking for quantity to stretch your dollar this is where you'll find it. That one meal would last me the whole day or even 2 days.
I couldn't finish my portion and I got it packed to go, and saw a homeless person on the street named George, really nice guy btw, and gave it to him.

Build your own pasta bar - "tasty meets affordable" You choose your own items and build your own dish. 1. Pick your pasta type 2. Pick your sauce 3. Pick your protein 4. Pick your veggies 5. Pick your garnish.

I got the Penne/Bolognese/Chorizo/mushrooms/parmesan, It was fantastic. "no need to pick a price only $8.95"
Anita Young
Had to came here after hearing about how good it was from my sister. My boyfriend and I dropped by on a Wednesday afternoon for a quick lunch. You get to pick your sauce, meat, and as many garnish and vegetables as you like. It came to around ~10 for each meal. Considering it's downtown, the price is very good. The portion size is very big, it filled the box right up to the rim and a bit more. I got pesto, basil, chicken, mushrooms, garlic, and lots of random cheese. I found it to be slightly tasteless and also very watery as you can see in the picture. My boyfriend's had a lot of oil, probably like 1/4 to 1/2 cup of oil. In comparison to Anton's, I much prefer Anton's over Basil Pasta Bar. For $16 it's twice the size sit-in or bring your own container (they fill it up for you) and very flavourful.

Nanzaro went for a hockey game in October. He had dinner at downtown Vancouver before the game. He went to the Basil Pasta Bar on Davie St. Basil Pasta Bar is restaurant that serves customized pasta. Nanzaro upgraded his pasta to gnocchi for 99cents. He opted for curry cream for the sauce, chicken and Chorizo sausage for the protein and for the veggies, he had spinach, mushrooms, red onions and garlic. For the cheese, he had Parmesan and Mozarrela. As for the herbs, he had all of them which include basil, parsley and oregano.

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and I got mixed results - I believe depending on the chef possibly. The first time we went it was really good. I got the 4 cheese ravioli: generous portion, great taste, very good price! My friends also thought that the place was great. The next time we went, I made my own combo. It was bland and watery - as if the pasta had not been properly strained before being mixed in with the pesto sauce. Same for my boyfriend's pasta. The shrimp was the kind you get in food court chinese rice - but there was barely any to be found in my plate to begin with. In subsequent visits the food was great but it feels as if the portions have shrunk a bit..
Jenny
Cheap and delicious. You can build your own pasta for just $7.95! It's a great place to go to and was my favourite lunch spot while working in Yaletown. It's a hole in a wall kind of spot but definitely good food.
Atsam9
Basil is a staple in Vancouver if good pasta is what you are looking for. The portions are really generous and can serve as great leftovers for the next day. Pasta doesnt get bad after putting it away and is always fresh. Good because it is really inexpensive. Best bang for buck in the area.
Jerry Thomas
great restaurant! I would recommend to try it, I used to go there often and now I'm glad they opened another location closer to my home in kitsilano. but they sell good pasta!

Came here for a quick lunch, was wondering around and find this place that have a high rating, convinced my friend to try it out because of the high rating,

find a parking spot nearby and came in to the small restaurant place, it's rather empty not really packed, and the menu is on the board, decided to get a few items to try it out.

I got the combo, and fettucine, alrfredo salmon, with salad, then first bite it was okay, the alfredo sauce is not really that strong as i would like them to be, and most of my friend's food were the same, it's rather going towards more on the bland side but there's still the taste of the sauce, i would say it's decent, but I personally love the type of pasta where the taste of the sauce is stronger.

but overall the pasta is decent, the sauce is a little bit bland, and the meat/ are okay, although i would say the portion is also small, the price tag is also cheap though.

I still don't get how this place got such a high rating, I get the point that they are serving pasta in really great prices and really quick. but at the same time as i mentioned previously i'm more of a person who likes my pasta with a strong taste, something like what they served in anton's pasta will be great for me, as also for the portion and the price :)

overall i wouldn't recommend this location, as there are many good competitors around as well, and will not come back unfortunately :(
Natalie
This place has great pasta at a great price. With most of their pasta at 7.95, you can have a filling meal and not break the bank. The place is kinda small with limited seating but luckily my friends and I were able to find some seats.
You can choose from a variety of pastas or you can make your own. My friends opted for the spaghetti and meatballs and the BC smoked salmon fettuccine. I decided to make my own pasta. Unfortunately they didn't have any linguini left ): so I decided on fettuccine. I actually think it was a better choice so that my pesto could coat more of the noodle. I was surprised by the amount of goat cheese I had. I think I actually could have done with a bit less, but the pasta still tasted good. It wasn't too oily and had good flavour. All of us were satisfied with the meal and wouldn't mind coming back.
Stephen Richardson
If you are in the mood for fabulous pasta at a great price the this is the spot. The selection is vast, the flavors are superb. If you have a toddler or youngster with you, bear in mind that there are no small portions. Also, note that they really don't have much of a dining area but rather just a few table crowded in the front. This place IMO is primarily a takeout and a busy one at that. So note that my 4 star rating does not reflect the atmosphere or the service but is a reflection on the quality of the food.
Caithlin Power
After spending 35 hours in transit from Australia, this place hit the spot. A massive bowl of yummy pasta + garlic bread + soft drink for $10. They do take away orders but I ate in. Great value for money.
Gile Marcos
There's a lot of choices to choose from and you can even make your own dish. Great price and food! I couldn't even finish the whole plate! The only downside was that place was small and had to wait quite a bit since we went there during the peak dinner hours.
Lupitylulu
Great value and good food! Choose your own pasta adventure with lots of veggies, meats and cheese on offer. Convenently located near theatres. Certainly not fancy but friendly and fun.

Awesome!. Amazing pasta and prices are unbeatable.

Good service and friendly staff.

Only thing I would critique is the small space between tables.
Josh Methven
Don't get the hype, decent pasta for good price but that doesn't excuse how bland their sauces are. It's called seasoning.
Jerichocowell
One of my favorite places to eat and for take out!. What a great restaurant. Quick and friendly service. Always great pasta, and they are fully licensed. This is my 4th day eating lunch here in a row.

Few days ago, I searched for internet and looked for some pasta restaurant that has better quality and with reasonable price. I found this one. This evening, it was a little bit cool and windy at downtown and I wanted to get something to eat. I thought of this restaurant. The restaurant was pretty small. I guessed they had less than 20 seats. The kitchen was small too and you could see the chefs were very busy making the dishes. This was quite a busy restaurant. I could see quite a few people crowded in the cafe waiting their dishes or pickup. I ordered a plate of spaghetti Carbonara – Parmesan cream sauce with bacon and peas. It cost less than 10. The presentation felt good to me. When I tasted the first bite, I found the cheese taste was a little bit light and not much salt and pepper. After I added them, it tasted more better. Since the price was reasonable, I had no complaint, but next time I will add an extra cheese and try some other types of dishes. Also, unexpectedly they served wine and alcohol too. It was quite a good pairing except it was difficult to stay in the restaurant to enjoy the wine because too many people waiting for the seats if you go in the peak hours. ilovejournal 2015-05-12T03:07:18+00:00 Copyright 2015 Ilovejournal.com | All Rights Reserved |

Fed up.. Gluten-free friendly, maybe. But certainly not celiac friendly. It's not their fault really. The kitchen is too small and they're too busy to bother with cross contamination.
Third time was not the charm for me. Won't be going back.

Delicious, affordable pasta (& open until 2am on Friday and Saturday!!). Awesome pasta! at a more than reasonable price. Amazing deal and you can build you own pasta dishes. Store is kinda small but nice if its not too busy.

Staff are very friendly and helpful

If you like the place make sure to get their loyalty card!!!! You can earn free pasta
Laura Lamarche,
Get the pasta you want, just the way you like it! Want more meat? More cheese? More spice? No problem! It was the perfect comfort food on a dreary day, and the delivery was fast.

I'd recommend the carbonara!

Diner in Vancouver. Amazing food and great price! Pasta menu is delish!! Place is small and gets crowded when it is busy! Definitely an amazing place for eats and takeout! Gotta check it out!
Newtons-apple
Awesome!. It's a small restaurant, but it's cozy and cute! The prices are very affordable, especially since you get quite a bit of food. And the food itself is delicious! Perfectly prepared and friendly staff!

Good food for price you're paying. Like the title says, for the price that you pay, the food is really good. The restaurant is small and is often packed. I've never seen anyone wait long for a table though. I've only eaten in once and have ordered takeout on occasion. The food comes pretty fast and the staff are friendly, despite being extremely busy.
Tmac63
Nice surprise. My wife was exhausted from travel and took a nap. I knew she didn't want pizza or other usual take out options. I found this place on the internet and saw that it was a 5 minute trot from our hotel. I arrived to see the food cooked to order as the chef tossed pasta and sauce in a pan over the grill. Its a small take out joint with a couple tables and it could really use a makeover; but friendly staff. I grabbed a bottle of red on the way back. I woke my wife up and she enjoyed the 4 cheese ravioli. I had spag and meatballs. Both were very tasty. The rustic style garlic bread was above ordinary. Caesar salad was tangy. You could pay double for far worse at chain restaurants and hotels. It was delicious and I was a hero, so it was an excellent choice.
Vancityfewd
Kind workers, affordable, good quality food. Despite the long waiting time, the food was great, the portion was perfect and for $7.95 you can't really go wrong with this restaurant. The workers there were nice and I can tell why it's always so packed in the restaurant!

Overrated. Makes me sad people rate this the best pasta they had.
You get what you pay for and less.
Looks like they buy already cook chicken, pasta and sauce wasn't mix.
Easy to make much better pasta at home

Cheap and Good!. Had the four cheese ravioli off the house specials while my friend had a customized pasta. Both were delicious. The service was friendly. Would definitely return here!

Best Pasta I've Had in Vancouver!. Went here with some friends the other night, it was around 5:30 and we got a table right away. Immediately I was impressed by the decor! The graffiti art is so cool looking and it just has that expensive hipster look! Best part? This place is the furthest thing from expensive!
It's so easy, you go up to the counter, place your order (pick whateverrrr your little heart desires!) and then even make it into a combo with the priciest option being $11.95
Dinner in Yaletown for under $20?! Who knew such a thing existed?!
I ordered gnocchi with marinara sauce and tons of veggies, chicken, Parmesan & basil and oregano (also the cashier, wish I knew his name - so friendly and patient!) we sat down and not even 5 minutes later our dishes were delivered to the table by the cook from the back kitchen steaming hot & fresh
I eat clean 90% of the time and rarely eat carbs - this pasta was so heavenly though I didn't even save half for leftovers like I usually do.
It was so nice to just sit and eat and talk with friends at this great little place. Couldn't believe how fresh everything was, nothing tasted fake or like it came from a can.
My parents are visiting this weekend and I cannot wait to take them here!
Check this place out, you will NOT be disappointed! 10/10 experience (:

Found this place by chance at the end of a visit to this amazing city. Checked online and read the reviews and thought, let's try it. So glad we did. An amazing experience and some of the best pasta we have eaten in forever and a day. We'll definitely make sure our friends out this on their bucket list. It is a spot we shall hit when we visit Vancouver again and is a BIG reason for returning. Peace out.

Great little place!. I was staying at the ramada inn in vancouber and was looking for a quick bite... There was a long lineup but it was worth the wait. I got the lemon chickin fettuvnni .. If you are in vancouver check this place out.
Jessica
My advice to anyone who is ordering take out from here would be to ASK HOW LONG THE WAIT WILL BE.

My boyfriend and I had waited 45 minutes for our order that we had placed at about 9:15pm on a Friday. There was NO indication that it would be that long and the employee kept saying "Soon we are just very busy". Oh really? Because I wouldve appreciated being told that my evening plans would be affected by a $7.95 pasta.

Don't expect 5 star pasta here, but nonetheless: wow!. They charge $7.95 for any dish including make your own. The make your own you can any noodle, any meat, any cheese, any vegetables (no limit), and herb for just $7.95, more if you get special pasta or if you want double the meat.

I got the Make-Your-Own: linguine with alfredo, smoked salmon and shrimp, red peppers, garlic, red onions, tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella. It was a bit bland but not so bland to the point I hated it. I wish the dish was cooked for longer because my onions and garlic weren't fully cooked: I still have bad breath no matter how many mints I consumed.

If you're expecting quality 5 star pasta from here, don't. It's a cheap eat for people who don't want to spend over $20 on a bowl of pasta. At least if it doesn't taste good, you only wasted $8...not $20.

I'm coming back here, though...all the way from Coquitlam. Just for the pasta. Server was pretty, friendly, and made small conversation with me while the dish was being made. She was really pretty....like wow. That alone is worth coming back for...and the pasta too.

Horrible customer service. shoddy work ethics. After having ordered from a popular online food delivery service, the owner of this restaurant would not honor the discount the website provided upon arrival at our door. My husband called the website customer service, who then went on to call the restaurant directly to deal with the issue. Well...the restaurant owner then called our private # and left a threatening voicemail "so I hear you had a problem with us?? call me back". No, I don't think we will. Ever.

Amazing!!! This is the best take away food I've had since being in Vancouver. DELICIOUS, don't miss out!

If you live anywhere in the lower mainland and haven't eaten here you are missing out on life. Seriously.

This place has actually become successful to the point where its beginning to hurt their business. There are constant lines for food, seating is scarce, and worst of all they often don't even pick up the phone for pick-up orders or just leave their pick-up customers on hold for 15 or 20 minutes. The really sad thing is that pick-up orders are their regular repeat business. If they lose those customers it could spell serious trouble. During peak hours they need to hire a person to take phone orders. They also need to expand their kitchen, hire a server, and expand their seating. You can only run a business on the ragged edge for so long before wheels start coming off.

It's not horrible - it's just not that flavourful (or as advertised). i got the chicken curry fettucini with almost all the veggies. there were barely any veggies and truthfully i couldn't find any chicken in the whole dish. also, the restaurant is freezing cold. we were so hangry and wanted to eat there but we had to take the food to go because the restaurant was so cold. the server/cashier had a heater directly on her (not blaming her) while the customers were freezing.

Solid Pasta!. We love the Basil Pasta Bar Concept, great fresh food, cooked up quick in a quaint atmosphere. Perfect for dining in or taking out, plus it's open late.
Pasta is always cooked al dente, multigrain garlic bread is delicious and you definitely can't beat the prices! My personal fave is the Mediterranean Penne, it may need a little salt & pepper love every now and then but overall the dish is delicious! Generous pasta dish & a glass of vino for $11.95, I'm sold!
Marianne Shaa
Just ate there lunch today. really big portions!! pasta is really good!

Quick and tasty pasta. Came for a quick bite and ordered the Pesto Shrimp Linguine.

It was a simple pasta dish but tasted pretty good and the cost of $7.95 is very worth it. If I worked downtown and was within walking distance to this place I would come quite often!
Daniel Thompson
Both pasta dishes we ordered had a lot of water in them. Garlic bread didn't come. You get what you pay for.
Amy
I hated this place. The atmosphere was terrible until they finally brought in this new girl. She is the only one who cares about the restaurant and is always willing to go out of her way to be extra friendly and helpful. I only go in when she's there.
Olivia
Awesome Pasta!. What a wonderful restaurant to visit and linger awhile. Beautiful and comfortable interior, with some of the best Italian food in town. In love with their meatballs, they are big and juicy! You can play around with different sauces when you come here..so good and so many to choose from!
Lucas
Not as good as before. Unconsistant. When it first opened I ate here all the time and enjoyed it for a cheap lunch. However, in the past 6 months I have noticed a steady decline in the food. I wanted to keep giving it chances because I really enjoyed it before but the last 4 times I went it wasn't good at all.

Last time i ate there I had such a bad experiance that I have decided to never return. I ordered the four cheese ravioli; the sauce was super watery, not much flavour, and the raviolis were way overcooked and like mush.
Ricolo
The pasta is nothing special. For something quick it's good, otherwise don't get your hopes up. Ordered garlic bread, it came after I finished my pasta, when told the girl working there for my money back for the pasta, she have me attitude. Meh

Really excellent bang for the buck. What a creative concept! For those who have a hard time making choices you will like the set menu of items, and for those of you who like to shake things up a bit the menu offers creativity. The amount of food you get is huge for what you pay for...and you can feel like you are eating quite healthy too depending on what you put in your pasta (vegetables galore) and which salad you choose if you do the combo. One of my favourite places to grab dinner on the run!
Joannehickman
Don't waste your money!. I went here about two months ago and the food was OK. I ordered for take out this evening and was really disappointed. They have started skimping on ingredients, half of my selections were missing, no broccoli, no onion and no mushrooms and no cheese! Not only that but no sauce! We called to complain, and after they eventually gave us a new one..which was no better! So save your money and go elsewhere! There are so many other choices in Yaletown, bad service is inexcusable!
Kirk
Super fast but they don't skimp on the quality! Lots of choices for ingredients and no limits on your choices for endless combinations. I had a Gnocchi with Chorizo, Bacon and a ton of fresh veggies; absolutely delicious and I wish there was one of these places close to me!!
Puffy Candy
An awesome neighborhood pasta joint! Had been here three time for the last couple month at this newly opened pasta place. The concept is simple: genuine pasta dish without flamboyant decor and service. Just enough to smooth my pasta crave in time. I gotta choose type of pasta I want (including gnocchi or ravioli), meat/veggie, sauce and cheese. And they have chef recommended dish as well. Add side green salad for a meal combo with tax in less than just $12! Perfect dinner at weeknight in a hurry!! ** note to owner/ chef: please keep up with ur good work. The last time wasn't as great, as the sauce feel like toss on rather and reduce with the pasta.
Vania
Gotta love pasta!. Every time I go there I pick a different sauce to try. Hard to have a favorite! Great price as well.
Dottor Wally
In my country if you make pasta in this way, if you are lucky you go to jail

Truly the best-tasting, best-valued meal I've ever had. That's not to say that the great value had any compromise on the quality of the food or vice versa. I was greeted in a friendly manner and had speedy service. Unlimited options for build-your-own pasta. Neat, intimate location in the heart or Yaletown. This pasta bar also is a fair employer and hired visible minorities which I find a fantastic, meaningful quality in an employer. I have nothing but good things to say about Basil Pasta Bar. They even have complimentary wireless Internet access. I will be returning in the very near future to enjoy another exquisite dish!

Favorite spot. Hidden and inconspicuous but absolutely delicious and super cheap.Best pasta I had for ages. And wide variety but don't be too keen to experiment.Best salad dressing.

Great Concept, and Good Food!. Loved the concept from the moment they opened, and the food has gotten even better over time.

My only complaint is that sometimes they go a little light on the sauce, making the pasta taste too strong. I usually ask for extra sauce and sometimes they give it to me free other times they charge a $1 which seems outrageous given the nature of the place.
V-City_girl
Good Food! Lots of it too!. I have been to Basil Pasta bar lots of times now, so I think i should write a review finally! Every time i go i try something different! everytime i have been the staff are friendly and helpful an will try an tend to your needs an tastes. I found that there was a few girls who worked there before wern't too good but they have gone now it seems. My personal favourite is the chicken curry fetticchini! and also the pesto shrimp linguine. the pesto is the best i have ever tasted and also whatever they put on their garlic bread is fantastic! the alfredo is house made an tastes great! not too salty! the staff all seem great and will happily accommodate your needs!
There is one thing, the loyalty card isn't really worth it, if your going to buy ten pastas for it, i at least think you should get a free pasta at the end! not a combo! i have spoken to a lot of people an they all say the same and would happily go more often if that was the case. I went in today 11-11-11 and the girl was very nice on the counter, she recommended something nice for my lunch time!
Go if u love great pasta!
Pogostickcowboy
Yummy soup. Huge salad. Great pasta. With huge bowls, thought the pasta portion would be bigger. Don't be gallant and share, order your own to savour the goodness.
Lara Hughes
Great and easy!. This place is great for a easy casual dining. You don't get table service so it keeps the total cost down. Both I and my friend had the BC salmon pasta and it tasted really good.
Ashley
Easy, fast, tasty!. Yummy! The service was friendly and the food was good. The place was a little small, so don't expect to bring a large group. Can't wait to dig into my leftovers :)

If you want some pasta.... Staff was so nice. Food was great. I had one of the set pastas but the build your own option looks great. Every bowl runs about 8 bucks and the portions are perfect. I'll be back.

Favorite. Create your own pasta with unlimited toppings!! Good price and very yummy!!
Benjamin Adam
Good food, good price and most of all the creation of your own pasta were the convincing things. Highly recommended if you are searching for something priceworthy and quick before/after a movie/party/etc.

This is the spot to go to for quick tantalizing pasta for the person on the go. Lots of house specials to choose from and if you're feeling creative or just lain indecisive there's a create your own dish option which will aim to please.

My mom and I took a look at the menu and was surprised to see that it was only $7.95 to create your own pasta. Yes I said it, your own pasta. With no limits for your toppings. Can I say yum? There were options to have their own set pasta but I felt like being like my creative self and made my own. Considering the price, I also added the

If you want a cheap pasta dish Basil Pasta Bar is the perfect place for you. It is located at 636 Davie Street. MandyCandy brought me to this place when we were studying downtown. I was craving pasta that day and I wanted a cheap place to eat. The great thing about this place is that you can choose as many toppings as you want for the same price of 7.95! There’s a big list of vegetables, meats, sauces, pastas, and garnishes to choose from. The one I got was a house specialty, the Spaghetti Carbonara, I added a bit more toppings onto it like mushroom and more cheese. I also added garlic bread to mine. Overall the pasta dish was average tasting, it would have been better with a bit more sauce since it ended up tasting bland. The toppings also ran out in proportion to the pasta. It’s a good deal though for what it is and it definitely filled me up! Pros: Cheap Eats Freshly made Can choose as many toppings as you wish Cons: Not a lot of seating Can get really busy, which means slow servic

Easilyfull had the Penne Arrabiata (7.95). The spicy tomato sauce had a bit of a kick to it, though not so much that it’d burn the roof of your mouth off. The penne itself was very al dente (for those that are unfamiliar with many culinary terms, like me lol, it wasn’t too mushy or overly firm, just right). Despite the dish not looking like a lot, it’s pretty damn filling once you factor in cheese and all of the heavy sauces. Thought Easilyfull was just…well, easily full from the small

I was told by my downtown working friends that this is a lovely place for pasta. Cheap and yummy and they were right. It really is a small cozy little place, so there is a bit of a wait and it may be hard to find seating inside (most people seem to order takeout). We can the Carbonara and the Ravioli, both delicous but of they two, I like the carbonara better. by Cho

The portions here are very big and we were pretty full when we finished. Basil Pesto Bar is an affordable place to just grab a bite and I definitely will visit again to customize my own pasta.
Constant Cravings
Mine had penne, pesto cream, parsley, spinach, corn, zucchini, red onions, mozzarella cheese and parsley. The pasta was al dente and there was a good amount of sauce and ingredients. Yum! All of the DIY pastas are only $7.95!!!
Curtis G NG
I decided to go a bit more creative and created my own pasta combination. I wanted to build my pasta so that it would suit the house special sauce, which was curry cream. So, I put together penne with chicken and chorizo. As for the veggies, I selected spinach, peas, garlic and broccoli topped with mozzarella and fresh basil, parsley and oregano. All this for only $7.95.
PickyNikki
Again, another place that had really great reviews. Sounded like a really neat idea. Almost all dishes are $7.95. You choose your pasta, meat, veggies, sauce, toppings. As many options as you'd like. All $7.95. Pretty cool. CKD would be in heaven!

pasta 150Y :Granville: Everytime I walk by this place, it's busy - especially at lunch. I've tried it a few times because it's an easy answer to the annoying question: what's for dinner? I would like to leave that to my sister, but she's more rabbit and I'm more grizzly bear. Monday was the perfect example. We left the gym starving. She wanted salad, I wanted carbs and meat. She went home, I went to Basil . It's custom pasta at great value ($7.95) and tastes good. This is not the first time I've come across their formula - let's rewind to 1998. I was a naive and eager undergrad at U of T and spending most of my days at the library. The cafeteria back then was 100x better than it is now. During my undergrad, they had a pasta bar. And my friends and I ate there a lot. Some more than others, but chances are, we ate there at least once every two weeks. Basil is exactly that: Click for menu . Pick your pasta, veggies, meats, sauce, cheese and garnish. Then t hey sautee, fry, and mix it

i was surprise that the food is inexpensive as compared to other food places at yaletown. it is a fast food restaurant as payment has to be made before the food is served to you.

I've been to Basil Pasta Bar, a quick restaurant to get a simple Italian fix, a few times now since they opened within the past few months along Davie Street, near Seymour in downtown Vancouver. The concept is simple, inexpens
