Burgoo is the place to go to when you’re craving some real comfort food. Pretty much everything on their menu spells out dishes that warm and fill your belly like mac & cheese and chicken pot pie. They don’t just focus on one region of cuisine either… they have Mexican, Thai, French, British, American, etc… as long as it’s comfort food, you’ll find it here. While they have 5 locations around town, this visit was to their Point Grey location on W 10th Ave.
Awesome atmosphere and a wide variety of dishes from a great deal of places. Burgoo offers a solid selection of meals to enjoy with a range of mouth-watering ingredients, making it difficult to choose what to get. I personally chose the Kentucky Burgoo, which was is a nice warm meal to dig into on any rainy Vancouver day. They also have a decent drink menu to choose from. I recommend the Snakebite for people who like a more citrusy beer. I can't wait to be back to try there other fantastic dishes.
Always delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere, very cozy! My favourite is the mac and cheese. Also worth a try is the warm mead.
It won't blow you away, but everything they have is quite solid. My go-to is the El Cubano (not authentic but still super tasty with lots of meats and flavour, and the mustard is on point) with the crab bisque. The soups can come a little hotter but just ask for it. It's a solid bistro for a casual meal. Mac & Cheese and the beef bourguignon (get it with the mashed potato) are other highlights.
If you're looking for comfort food this is where you want to be. Their Mac and cheese will definitely leave you satisfied. They offer dishes from different parts of the world which makes their menu very interesting. They also rotate some hearty soups for perfect for rainy days.
Love this place! I come here every once in awhile and also to the Mt. Pleasant location. Always great service, wine and yummy food.
Comfort food done right. The food here is always sooo mouthwateringly delicious while being quite simple. I love the atmosphere here - it's just the right mix of cozy and rustic and is very comfortable. Their sandwiches are also amazing and I'm not a sandwich person at all.
Been to this location three times and every time has been a great experience! I have tried the eggs ratatouille, eggs burgoo, crab bisque, and the dos diablos sandwich with the seafood potage, and each was incredibly enjoyable in its own way. I would recommend the crab bisque over the potage, however. The crab bisque was rich in flavour and the potage I felt was missing something.. but nonetheless REALLY enjoyable. Get the banana bread pudding too, you won't regret it!
Loved this place!. Liked it so much the first night when I was on campus for a conference, I brought 3 other people with me the next night. One was a vegan who had a couple of options on the menu that she could eat.
We all loved it - great food, good variety, reasonable prices, good service. Pretty good combination!
Nice experience. Came with family and enjoyed a lovely meal in a warm, cozy environment. Quality comfort food with good service. Price is not quite relative to the quality, but you will be sure to come home with extras so it does even out. Would recommend trying!
Pretty small dining area so haven't been there much since the kids were born but grab the occasional soup or stew there, always fresh, tasty and feels like a good home style meal.
Always great comfort food. Had the bisque. Delicious!!
Great Food But Small. I love Burgoo, I frequently go to the Main or Point Grey locations. Point Grey you can normally get a seat pretty easy compared to Main Street, but it's quite a bit smaller, and not wheelchair accessible (washrooms)... The main street one is though.
Either way, great food, love sitting by the window and people watching.
Pretty good. A bit on the pricey side (for my tastes) but good food. I had the Burgoo and hubby had the Chicken Vindaloo - delicious and good size portions. Nice waitress and eating outside was a plus. Good place for a nice dinner in Point Grey.
Mmmm..Stew.... The hubby and I went to Burgoo last night. We haven't been to a "nice" restaurant in a while, so it was a treat.
The decor is very homey and very comforting. The place is super tiny. It reminded me of someone turning the first floor of a very small home into a restaurant! The main dining room reminded me of a livingroom, the bar area could've been a foyer and the kitchen and washrooms...well...kitchen and washrooms. Very cute but since it's so small, definitely come early. Hubby and I were there around 5:45pm for dinner and we just snapped up the last table.
Food is very homey and comforting. I was so impressed by the temperature of the foods. It literally felt like as if they JUST finished cooking it and plated it right away to be eaten.
We started off with the Albondigas (spicy meatballs). Very yummy despite the small portion. Maybe it's the cheapness in me, but $8 for 6 small IKEA sized meatballs seems a bit harsh.
Impatient to try new foods as always, I burnt my tongue eating my Hungarian Goulash. There was tons of meat, so maybe the chefs read the last reviews about the lack of meat and included more in. Hubby ordered the Chicken sandwich with Spinach salad. The sandwich looked like a decent size, but apparently there was even more meat in there than I had thought. He was stuffed and very satisfied with his meal.
We ended the dinner with the Rocky Road Bread Pudding. It was pretty big and sweet. The last parts were a little too sweet, so we had to grab some water. With the ice cream on top, it was terrific.
Our waitress was terrific. She was super busy, so we had to wait a bit for service but the place was packed and people were lining up, so what can you do? I'd definitely go there again. It's the perfect place on a cold winter's day. :)
Chicken salad sandwhich; awesome. Irish stew; meh.
Comfort Food. Amazing stews et. Best cold weather restaurant around
Hearty, tasty, unpretentious soups and fantastic cheese grillers. Chilli chocolate pot also scrumptious but tricky to save room for.
It is so good..... ...it's like getting a hug from your mom (if you really like your mom I mean). I wish there was one in Victoria ...hint, hint....
Comfort Food. Good comfort food. Be surrounded by University Professors and Pt Grey residents. This is a great spot on a rainy day for some hearty food.
Perfect place for salads. I've gone to this place many times for lunch and I have not been disappointed yet. It's a great place for lunch if you are looking for a really good salad, or soup/salad combination. Yum.
To me this place has the ultimate comfort food you could ask for on a rainy, cool or just relaxing with a friend day...and the chocolate bread pudding...oh my gawwwwd!!...heaven
I really enjoyed this soup! It was fairly smooth and creamy, the flavour was rich with enough crab to not be overwhelming but still very present

The spices really enhanced the flavors, and the warm, moist cakey bottom was just so soft and melted in my mouth. I thought it was a bit much for me though, but it's a good size.
I don't know why but I was craving for sandwiches today, not any old sandwich, but the sandwiches from Burgoo. I remember I came here back in April, it was my first time and I loved ever since! Its situated in such a nice neighborhood, 4th Avenue, my high school was near here so I'm quite familiar with the area. They have 4 locations all over the mainland and have great reviews on urbanspoon (84% and up).
Burgoo has four locations in Vancouver. They mainly serve stewed dishes of various Countries and sandwiches. Burgoo’s stewed dishes are pretty good, but some of them are too heavy or with too many spices in it.
In restaurants, dozens of ingredients go into making one dish, making it impossible for people with multiple food sensitivity to eat out. It can also be embarrassing and uncomfortable to list of your allergy, which is your own personal and private medical
That Burgoo made the list might be a surprise for those of you that read my first review. And yes, while I’m still reluctant to ever try their macaroni and cheese again, I have fallen in love with their Gooey Cheese Grillers and Crab Bisque. The grilled cheese sandwiches and creamy, tomatoey bisque, brimming with crab meat, are what keep me going back again and again.
I've only been to Burgoo twice, and always at their Main St. location. Last year, a few days after my accident and in serious need of comfort food, I ventured out to their Point Grey location. My mom opted for their healthy Soup and Sandwich combo. It's a fairly good deal at $15 a pop. Sandwiches are $12 so you're not paying that much more for the soup. I, on the other hand, was in serious need of comfort food, so I went straight for the Macaroni & More, which is your average Mac & Cheese, but bumped up with the addition of Cheddar, and bacon. Yes, bacon. They toss in a bunch of peas, sprinkle on a layer of seasoned breadcrumbs and bake the whole thing into a gooey dish of yumminess. And in case the Mac and Cheese wasn't cheesy enough, we also got their Decadent French Onion soup. There are ribbons of slow roasted onions sitting in a really robust beef broth. All topped with chunky croutons and then slow baked with three Gruyere, Emmenthal and Mozzarella to make it extra gooey! Special
