My original post on Rain or Shine was written over 5 years ago, when it first opened. Rain or Shine is a staple for artisan ice cream in Vancouver!
Yum! Chanced upon this place on a side trip and was happy to know it was the same one recommended by my BIL. Tried the blueberry balsamic and loved it! Not sure how it works but it is delicious.
Heard about this gem on Becki and Chris(Youtube) i was in the neighbourhood decided to give it a try i ordered one scoop Coffee Toffee it was really sweet but the coffee flavour was quite outstanding there's so many more i have to try in the near future i would highly recommended this place
After lunch we passed by Rain or Shine Ice cream and decided to give it a try as we were craving for something sweet. There was a moderate line up when we arrived late in the afternoon. The menu shows the featured flavors available that day. They also have milkshakes, sundaes and take out tubs of ice cream.
Innovative flavours that win over the selection at Earnest most times. Have yet to visit for Taco Tuesdays! Possibly my favourite ice cream shoppe in Vancouver so far.
Great local ice cream parlour.
The best thing about this place are the toppings you can get with your ice cream.
My recommendation- top your ice cream with the candied hazelnuts, it will elevate your ice cream like you wouldn’t believe!
I've always wanted to try this place, as I have seen and heard about it a lot over social media. No disappointment here. I was there on a Taco Tuesday, but for the amount of ice cream that you get, I opted for the two scoops. The staff there was very nice and helpful. They were very happy to let me try the flavours first. I tried the Lavender Honey and the Coffee Toffee. Loved every bite of it. I will definitely go back to try other flavours!
After dinner nearby, we thought we would indulge in a little craft ice cream. And seeing that “Rain and Shine” was empty, we thought to take advantage. With no lines and no other customers, we were able to take our time sampling and deciding on our order, then sprawling ourselves across many of their empty seats.
Love their ice cream and the vibe at the little shop. There isn't much seating and usually quite a long line but well worth it. I can't have dairy and they offer amazing alternatives.
First time to Rain or Shine and tried Blueberry Balsamic and London Fog. They are good! I prefer the taste of Blueberry Balsamic more and I guess because of its ingredients, it melt much faster than the London Fog. The fruit sour taste make great companion with the balsamic. I prefer stronger milk/ cream taste ice cream and Rain or Shine is more on the lighter side. If I come back again, I will the salted caramel and chocolate honeycomb~
Every Day Is A Food Day

Rain or Shine Ice Cream has been around for quite some time now and they have even opened up their second location on Cambie. For whatever reason, I had never visited the shop and thank god I finally did! MH, MW, S and I visited the Cambie store in the afternoon on a sunny day after lunch. They make their waffles fresh in store but you can also have your ice cream in a cup. Their signature flavours are always on the menu, and the seasonal flavours will switch up based on what ingredients are fresh. “The ice cream is made from scratch in house using fresh, natural and sustainable whole ingredients, source locally, seasonally and organically whenever possible.”
We've been to Rain or Shine a few times and we absolutely love their ice cream! Our favourites are the London fog, coffee toffee, honey lavender, and cracked mint. You can't go wrong with any of these. In our opinion, this is the best ice cream in town, yes that includes Earnest (cheaper too). Their cones are so good as well, always fresh and not too sweet. If you haven't been to Rain or Shine yet do yourself a favour and get down there!
We came here because one of their competitors line up was around the block. Happy we came here instead though! Still busy because it was a sunny day but service was fast and friendly and the flavours are yum! Strongly recommend the coffee toffee in a waffle cone
Love the ice cream at Rain or Shine! I don't really come around this area quite often but I have been here on three separate occasions within the last month or so.
I love their ice cream flavours. So far, I've had London Fog, Honey Lavender, Cracked Mint and Coffee Toffee... as well as the sundae: Josie’s Fave. Ice cream heaven!
To be honest, I like Rain or Shine much better than Earnest.
One of the best ice cream places I've ever went to, ever. They're also vegan friendly, so yay for vegans and lactose-intolerant people. :) What I like about Rain of Shine is that their stuff is homemade, which is why the place smells like sweet waffle cones. They also have seasonal flavors, even during the winter; honestly, this ice cream is good for any time of the year, especially when I'm being obliterated by school and stress, lmao. If you're looking for realness, this is realness.
Rain or shine, I have always returned to this icecream parlour. However, I have never visited the new location in Cambie Village before, until now... . My friend got the Balsamic Bluberry and honey lavender which is the bomb.com. I got the matcha which was super flavorful. and the raspberry ale one which is AWESOME. I love that it is not too sweet...
Courtesy of such a beautiful day in Vancouver this fine Monday (my snapchat alleges it was 30 degrees so it was 30 degrees okay, even though maybe it was high 25), I am sharing another ice cream date night spot. Rain or Shine happens to be one of the first ice cream parlours I fell in love with, next to Bella Gelateria. They began on West 4th and promptly boosting another location on Cambie.
Rain or shine? Ice cream is ment for every season especially for my girlfriend and I. We parked to grab some things at the woof gang pet supplies store and noticed a huge line up at the ice cream shop. We both looked at each other and smiled, we knew were gonna get some.
The decor is lovely and it's a simple concept like earnest. In house ice cream. We got two scoops. The coffee toffee, and the malted milk chocolate honey comb. And you gotta have the waffle with your girl!
First impressions of the coffee toffee? Whoa it's got spunk yo! There's the wow factor FINALLY. I had a crappy few days of food man. The toffee is a nice crunch, ice cream is soft and smooth, just the right amount of sweetness. The malted milk chocolate is a thicker texture, a bit rich but not overly, just almost slightly borderline. I was still jumping with joy. We were so enthusiastic that our husky pup wanted to join in on the tasting fun haha. Would I recommend this place? Yes of course. The service is excellent here and everyone was very happy. Btw, they give free samples, in case you don't know. You don't wanna be stuck with a flavor you don't like. Even then nowadays every ice cream place is giving samples to try before purchasing.
I forgot to mention, the waffle cone doesn't crumble. When you bite into it, it's soft. You won't have bits all over your shirt lol.
The ice cream at Rain or Shine is always fresh and I love visiting to try out their seasonal flavours. The cones are also always fresh and tasty. Highly recommend the blueberry balsamic as it's the perfect combination that's fruity and adventurous.
I don't really understand the big hype for this place. I do think the flavour options were pretty good, but it's not something I would go to all the time even if I lived close. Maybe it's just because I like trying a lot of these ice cream places. I really likes the malted milk chocolate honeycomb though, I like how there was a mixture of honey and crunchy malt chocolate. That would be the flavour I recommend.
Always an amazing visit when eating here. Ice cream is 9.5/10, only downside is their flavors change regularly, you get hooked on one then next time you go that flavor is no longer available!
All in all amazing place.
Yum! This place is always packed with a lineup, its definitely worth it to try their seasonal flavours (I always pick 2) ;) Their original flavours like vanilla are a tad on the plain side though. I tried the malted caramel and seasonal blueberry flavours (I forget which) and it was so delicious. Just thinking about it will have me back there for more soon!!!!! 🙌
There used to be a time when Vancouver was strictly known for our rain… we had two good months of sunny weather followed by ten months of dreary rain. Hence, the partly sarcastic nickname, “Raincouver”. I suppose global warming is finally catching up to us since this year has seemed more like “Suncouver”.
Quick mini-review! I came here for their TACO TUESDAY special again!!! Much awesome. Very excite. Anyways, it's basically 2 scoops of ice cream in a waffle taco garnished with whipped cream and toppings. You can also pick different flavours for the 2 scoops too. This time around I got a double scoop of the mint chocolate chip ice cream topped with candied hazelnuts and a big heap of whipped cream. This is the BEST combo I've tried so far. Legit amazing in your mouth. I wasn't looking for something too sweet and this was perfect. Just minty enough with bits of shaved choco and crunchy hazelnuts mmmmm
This is Rain or Shine's second location and I visited today with a friend for their Taco Tuesday special! With this, you get the choice of one or two flavours, a topping and whipped cream, in a waffle shaped like a taco shell. What a genius idea! After sampling a couple of flavours, we settled on the Coffee Toffee and London Fog, topped with a mixed berry compote. The icecream was heavenly! It was super creamy, and definitely one of the best I've had. The Coffee Toffee had a strong coffee flavour, with bits of toffee inside, while the London Fog was fragrant with vanilla like the actual drink. (4.5/5)
Their menu is divided with their signatures and also seasonal flavours. Vegan options are available as well!
I can't believe this place gets bad reviews!! I like it much better than Ernest Ice Cream. They make their own waffle cones that are amazing and smell up the whole shop as soon as you walk in! I come here almost weekly. Make sure to go for their Taco Tuesday's
Rain or shine always offers interesting flavours much different from the flavours you find at other stores. I have to say that my all time favourite is gone lavender! The atmosphere here is really cute and it's wall paper makes any picture better.
The blueberry balsamic icecream was pretty interesting. The two flavours are not mixed together but rather swirled together so I can taste them separately. They go well together. The malted chocolate ice cream has a bit of crunch which I like, but it was a little too sweet. What I probably like best is their waffle cone! So freshly made you can see a person behind the counter making them in front of you.
I first noticed Rain or Shine Ice-Cream on 4th street where they had a huge line up on a rainy day, all jokes aside. Then I noticed they had recently opened a second location in Cambie Village on Cambie and 18th. Ice-cream has recently gain popularity in Vancouver with gelato slightly trailing behind. But really, who can resist ice-cream? Even I have to admit I'm suddenly more attracted to ice-cream too. In fact, I don't think ice-cream is even weather dependent.
No lineups on a rainy day! It's such a cute little shop, and the windows look out onto the busy Cambie street so you have a view to enjoy your ice cream with. The waffle cones are so so so so fresh & crispy and good. I thought i wouldn't like the airiness, but it was also dense enough to provide substance for the whole thing. The malted chocolate chip honeycomb was so delicious and sweet; definitely going back to try more.
Boy, do I feel bad about having ice-cream two days in a row! Hi guys, I'm back in Mount Pleasant... again. I was just actually having dinner at Burgoo Bistro and dessert at Earnest yesterday, and my sister suddenly suggested that we visit Rain or Shine. So, why not? It's my first time! . DISCLAIMER: These photos aren't formatted how I usually format them. I took these photos with my phone and I really wish I had my DSLR with me but the review had to be done!
The new location is larger and the lineup does not get as long. Out of the flavours I tried, the seasonal flavour was my favourite. Particularly, I really enjoyed the Malted Chocolate Honeycomb. It wasn't too sweet and had a bit of crunch to it. I also liked Blueberry Balsamic, which was an interesting flavour. London Fog was good; it had a strong, creamy earl grey taste. On the other hand, Salted Caramel was a disappointment - it was way too sweet after a few spoonfuls.
Delicious ice cream with quite a few seasonal flavours that rotate often. The current strawberry jam special is creamy with a ton of fresh strawberry flavour. The cracked mint brings back a lot of childhood ice cream memories. Long lines that move relatively quickly and friendly service that encourages samples.
I’ve seen lots of pictures from Taco Tuesday and I finally went! They have a new location on Cambie and 18th which is a lot closer to me too. With the warm weather lately, I’ve been eating ice cream non-stop! I am so thankful I’m not lactose intolerant!!!. They have this super cute book on their front counter! Rain or Shine has some seasonal flavours as well as some staples.
Disclaimer: This was a complimentary tasting provided in exchange for an honest review. Hey guys! Sorry for being out the past few days I was writing a few exams that made the blogging life a little more hectic. In any case, in the heart of Cambie Village has sprouted up a popular ice cream shop, Rain or Shine ! Do the scoops here send your taste buds on a ride or are the seasonal flavours a little too weird to be tasty? Read on to find out. Food: Team Food Soc made their way over and I got a Flight of 4 (4 kids’ scoops; 4 flavours) with the Blueberry Balsamic, Cracked Mint, Powell St. Dive Bomb, and the Lemon Square. I thought it was really cool that Rain or Shine collaborates with a few Vancouver companies to mix their flavours. The Powell Street Dive Bomb is a great example of mixing in some ale from The Alibi Room. Same goes for the Lemon Square (from Lemon Square) and Coffee Toffee (coffee from JJBean) flavours. My favourite flavour goes to the Cracked Mint for its little crunchy bits and resistance to melting. When you’re having a great conversation and have 4 flavours in separate containers, melting speed is a thing. Compared to the Kitsilano location, Rain or Shine on Cambie carries and exclusive seasonal scoop (likewise for Kitsilano) so no two locations are exactly the same. For any Portland lovers, the Blueberry Balsamic is Salt and Straw’s Canadian cousin and it tastes just as good. In any case, if you’re torn between up to 4 flavours, the Flight is a great option and it’s very shareable too . I am also a very willing helper should you need someone to share a Flight with! Flight of 4 - Top Clockwise - Blueberry Balsamic, Cracked Mint, Powell St. Dive Bomb, and Lemon Square Features: This is a much more spacious venue compared to the Kitsilano location. With a long wooden communal table, strangers are encouraged to say hello and defend their ice cream flavour of choice. There is a purple unicorn cow watching over all who dine in this establishment and
C and I were super excited when we noticed Rain or Shine Ice Cream is having a 2nd location close by us! From our first review , we loved the quality and the variety of flavors the store has to offer! Here is a little refresher or introduction of Rain or Shine Homemade Ice Cream from their own website : Natural Local Fresh Made from scratch here Did you know? Our ice cream is made right here using fresh, natural and sustainable whole ingredients sourced locally, seasonally, and organically whenever possible. What a mouthful! We make everything from scratch cause we love ice cream and think it tastes better that way. So eat up Rain or Shine and let the dance party in your mouth begin! Who doesn’t love delicious ice cream Look at all the popularity this sweet, cold treat is riding on! We are quite lucky to have a few gourmet ice cream places in Vancouver like Earnest Ice Cream , Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery , Soft Peaks and etc. This new 2nd location of Rain or Shine Ice Cream is located by Cambie and 18th, replacing a hair salon. If you know the area, you’ll know it’s all meter and residental parking. There are some free street parking if you are willing to walk. Located right outside a bus stop on Cambie street It has the same accent wall with the ice cream cone wall paper as the original location BUT there is a epic mount in the new location!
Best Ice cream I've ever had. And I eat a lot of ice cream. I'm in love with an ice cream shop.
Hello everyone!I have a few places to blog about this week but I decided to start off this gloomy Tuesday on a happier note...ICE CREAM! I think the name of this ice cream shop is very true, I don't care whether its raining or snowing or hailing, I will still crave for ice-cream!For some heck of a reason, last week was blazing with sun and it was AWESOME. Despite the fact I had to move, work, and go to school, the sun definitely made my week more enjoyable than it actually was. During my lunch hour away from work, my friends and I decided to drive down on Cambie and grab ice-cream from Rain Or Shine.Just like the photo below indicates, they make the ice cream fresh, natural & with local whole ingredients. Since I have my own gift company-Cherry On Top Designs based on local products, I know for a fact that they use Vancouver Olive Oil Company's Balsamic Vinegar to make their blueberry balsamic ice cream and it tastes great and definitely unique! They have a big selection of ice cream to choose from but I ended up ordering my usual favorites, Salted Caramel & London Fog. (Two flavors $5.00)Its rich, simple & creamy! No complaints for a fine cup of ice cream on a sunny day :)
The ice cream here is AMAZING! We loved the black sesame flavour so much we came back a few days later to get more. There was so much flavour and I love how they gave us such big portions for the price.
I also loved the waffle cone itself. I usually find waffle cones to be too hard and sometimes they are even stale, but you theirs was perfect!
Highly recommend coming here if you’re in the area :)
Amazing ice cream and waffle cones! I tried the Blueberry Balsamic and Chocolate Egg flavors - both were delicious. Generous portion for a one scoop, as well. Staff were also very understanding and accommodating to my nut allergy.
Worth the wait for this ice cream! They have delicious flavours. The large portion and price is worth it! We had the lemon, mint chocolate, Maltese chocolate, and passionfruit. I really enjoyed the passionfruit. It definitely was not on the sour side - thankfully. The chocolate mint had thin pieces of chocolate and it was my favourite! The Maltesers chocolate also had had chucks of chocolates in it which was great. The lemon square… had chunky lemon flavoured squares in it which was also delicious. All in all it was delicious. Seat rings available by entrance, across the street and also if you walk north at the end of the block there’s plenty of seats there. Will be returning for more excellent flavours!
Literally my favourite ice cream place in the entire world!!!! Love the cute purple cow with an ice cream cone on its head inside and the clean inside space; some room to sit and eat inside and lots of room outside across the street. The ice cream portions are huge; single scoop with one flavour is featured in my photo and it fills the whole cone/cup. The flavours aren’t super fancy but I actually love that - just wholesome delicious, creamy ice cream!
My faves are cracked mint (true mint with bits of chocolate), roasted strawberry (seasonal and delish!) and coconut (one of their vegan options; super coconutty but doesn’t seem like they make this any more or perhaps its seasonal?).
I’ve tried every flavour so let me break it down in no particular order! Balsamic blueberry - good but strong balsamic flavour and gets to be a lot lol. Honey comb malted milk - super sweet, too sweet for me but unique. London fog, very light. Vanilla, very true strong vanilla taste. Chocolate, super rich type of fudgey chocolate and for pure chocolate lovers. Salted caramel, typical and tastes like it should. Lemon square (seasonal), super lemony with bits cake. Birthday cake, super sweet and tastes like a vanilla cake with sprinkles and cake bits; fan favourite for birthday cake lovers out there (I am not one though). Nothing is a solid stand out or unique but their flavours are very true and strong for whatever you decide to pick.
Overall the best ice cream place!
Great little ice cream shop. Various flavours, waffles are to die for. Social distancing implemented. Go for the flight to try many flavours(I didn't like the honey lavender.. Very perfume) staff is happy and positive, attentive.
I have tried a lot of ice cream places but this one takes the cake! The flavours are so rich and delicious. They are beyond flavourful. What I love is you also get such great value for what you pay for. They actually fill every Inch of the cone with ice cream and the scoops on top are huge. Nothing comes close to this place. I've never met anyone who hasn't liked them
Great icecream but the flavors really do confuse me. It usually makes a good suprise but my friends have encountered some goofy flavors.
Vegan strawberry all the way! Fruity and flavourful, and don't skip the waffle cone. Actually chunks of strawberry in the ice cream.
