Review Wildtale Yaletown - Vancouver

Angela
This place has one of the best happy hours around & their buck a shuck oysters are wonderful! Their Lobster Rolls could use a bit more filling, but the rolls themselves were definitely the star of the dish. The Parmesan Fries were delicious, love the way they bake the Parmesan onto the fries so they don't fall off when you pick up the fry. The Coconut Fried Shrimp were large succulent pieces that were fried to perfection & the mango chutney added just the right amount of sweetness. The Fresh Seafood Ceviche was just that fresh & refreshing. The only reason I didn't give them 4 stars though was their dessert was very underwhelming. We ordered their chocolate cake & we didn't enjoy it. The icing had a funny flavour & the cake itself was dry. It tasted like an amateur baked it, definitely not something you would expect from a restaurant of this calibre. The service & the drinks were great. Overall, I would definitely come back to this restaurant, but I would probably pass on the dessert.

Came here for dine out after Covid. Great service. Tables were well spaced and lots of social distancing. Servers were friendly and wore masks. Food was good. Would like to try happy hour menu.

Wild tale's Happy Hour. I would say Vancouver Restaurant is offering some good happy hour menu. Dish prices ranging from $6-$9 a plate. What I found interesting about wild tale happy hour menu is the 3 categories on the menu. I choose from the raw section as I was preparing myself for a big dinner. They also had the appetizer which consists of the braised meatball and salmon poppers. Then you have the steamer section which had clams and mussels. . Grilled Oyster with creole butter. I just wish I ordered more than one. The inside of this shell was pure oysters and no added items to it. Tuna Ceviche was pretty good, but wishing for more tuna to it . Buck-A-Shuck Oyster which changes daily based on what the restaurant receives that day. . Also kudos to the heated outdoor patio! Even if it's rain or snow. You can still have a great meal.

Our dear friend Ken took us to this place for happy hour. Yaletown has so much going on, it’s so hard to pick, so we were happy he chose. I’m not quite sure how to review this, except by saying, we had a wonderful time. I say that because we didn’t order anything specific aside from the drinks. It was happy hour and the menu was chock full. Our friend spoke to the owner (his friend) and he agreed to just bring us out something awesome. First thing was the chef’s refreshing take on tuna tacos/tostitos. I didn’t catch the name, but they were a clever fusion of Asian and Mexican styles. Then we had a seafood platter, that had these crab and shrimp sandwiches (hope I got that right!) in a split toasted bun, wonderfully prepared baked mussels, perfect coconut shrimp on a bed of purple slaw, served with grilled bread wedges. Service was personable, the mixologist made a special drink for our new friend Suki, and we simply had a great time. Would love to come back and try all their offerings. Kudos to the team at WildTale! We are thankful for the experience. 🤙🏼🥠 Ps. The Gin-T’s were fantastic!

Appetizers were great. Main meals were late and was just ok. We were a group of 6 and everyone thought that the food wasn't amazing but some thought that the lobster Gnocchi was good. The atmosphere is fun and the restaurant is in the heart of Yaletown.

My friend and I came here for buck a shuck happy hour. The oysters did not taste fresh, and had a bad aftertaste to them. We also ordered the Truffle fries which tasted fine, in fact they were very good ! I also ordered fish tacos and my friend ordered the tuna for happy hour. Both tasted great! I would not recommend people come here for oysters as they were not fresh, no exaggeration even after having dessert at another restaurant we still had a fishy taste in our mouth.

Came in with my wife during the Taste of Yaletown event which offers a fixed price for 3-4 course meal. There was a good amount of selections in the menu plus we made it for Happy Hour so that was nice for drinks. Everything turned out very appetizing visually and taste wise. They were always willing to offer pepper. They did check in after each bite which I guess is courtesy for some who actually expect that? I'd prefer just to eat uninterrupted but oh well. Atmosphere was cozy but lively because you can see the action in the kitchen unfold and everyone seemed to be working well together. I will be back try other stuff because I think I've only scratched the surface.

This establishment is the place to be for delicious seafood appetizers. By far the best oysters at a ridiculously good deal during appie hour. Benny served the table when I was on a double date and I like her spunky personality. Definitely will be back for more.

This was such a great dinner. Right from the time we walked in and asked for a table for three with our 2 year old grandson. Warm welcome, easy menu, delicious food, great wine list and all with a warm welcome and smiling service. Taylor was excellent in helping getting Zachary settled into his high chair and turned up the outdoor heater to keep him toasty, after getting in a blanket as well. The crab and lobster tacos were very yummy and larger than we thought - we added a main of B.C. Salmon which melted in your mouth and was does to a chefs perfection. We’ll be back for sure and would recommend you pass by the chains and line ups and try this place out. Thanks again for making this such a nice evening. Beth

Amazing food and great service the trout was to die for We have been doing dine out for sixteen years Wild Tale is one of the best highly recommend having the oysters we will definitely be back soon

The beef carpaccio was the bomb! I could have 5 plates but i didn't cuz wallet will hurt. For the entree I got the crab crusted trout it was nice. Couldn't taste or see much of the crab. The sides was sad. Butter scallops was dry probably because it was cut up and it was the size of a thumb. The chutney I think was so-so. The faro and vegs didn't do much for me except taste sour. As for dessert a lot of people love chocolate, I don't. It was a dark chocolate mousse tart with raspberry coulée and topped with whipped cream. It was a good dessert but wished there was another option. Overall it's good value for the meal. Staff was always ready to refill your water.

This place is fantastic. The food is legit and the service is great. Super Fresh seafood! Awesome patio and Happy hour has some great deals. The head chef Whitey always makes my guests feel special which keeps me coming back! Try the meatballs they are bomb!

Awesome place, food and the service. Had lamb shanks. Excellent food and i would highly recommend this dish. Only issue, not enough selection of beers. no corona, steller or heineken. Only area of improvement.

Amazing, fast and friendly service:) we were there for our staff Christmas party on a Saturday and our servers never let anyone have an empty glass:) they always offered a smile and were very accommodating. Loved the whole experience, truly recommend this place!

The food was very good great menu. The service was good at first for drinks and appetizers. Then we waited already 30 Mins before we had to wave down a server to take the dinner order. Apparently she passed us if to the bartender (we didn't know that) and she explained that there was a miscommunication. I wish the service experience was better because the food was very good.

Exemplary service in a comfortable, fine dining spot in popular Yaletown. We both had the 5 course lobster, each course exceeded our expectations. Ashley was our server, a great sense of humour mixed with her attention to our needs. I will recommend and return.

Fantastic, I always get treated like a king there! Andrew never lets the food leave the kitchen without being perfect! Oh ya the food is always has the freshest ingredients!

Very rarely would I give 5 star but the experience our party had tonight was nothing shy of great. Food was really good quality, not over priced, tasty and great presentation. Our server Ashton, no need for fancy buzz words, she is simply the best!
Carole Moran
Excellent, attentive service. Server could have been more knowledgable about the menu and the special. The halibut special? Absolutely delicious! Beet salad? Divine! Apple crumble... quite disappointing :(

Perfect service, good location, excellent scallops, the desert menue delicious but too heavy for a „light“ dinner.

Fast and and really friendly service, a good looking cool place and delicious food. All around great dining experience

My husband and I had our first experience at this lovely restaurant when we were seated in a cozy corner on the patio. It was dinner on our wedding night! Service was amazing (thank you Brie- good luck in London!) and the food was delicious! It was so romantic and just a perfect way to enjoy our first dinner together as a married couple. We will be back!

It’s been many years since my last visit to WildTale in Yaletown. We decided to give them a visit during happy hour. They’re next door to Earls but they also have a second location out in Olympic Village. Happy hour sign outside. We dropped by on a Thursday (around 5:45pm), just in time for happy hour, which runs from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and 10:00pm to close. We were able to snag a couch seated table on the patio. Heat warmers and blankets are available if you get cold. Service is solid and they came by several times to refill our waters.

WildTale Coastal Grill is prides itself on serving wild and fresh seafood in a warm and friendly atmosphere. I came by on a sunny afternoon to catch up with my good friend and to sample some of their Happy Hour offerings. Lobster and Shrimp Roll – $5.00 each (minimum order of 2). I’m a huge fan of lobster, and if I see lobster rolls on a menu, you can bet I’ll order them. The rolls here were pretty good. They’re definitely on the smaller side, but the filling was generous, and there was a good bread to lobster ratio.

As neither of us are living in Vancouver, the idea of fresh West Coast seafood was very appealing. We started with a platter of oysters, 3 different types, 4 oysters each, served with horseradish which was tasty but grated a little too thickly. They also provided three different sauces, and some Tabasco sauce and a slice of lemon. I liked that there were lots of options. Then we shared our mains: halibut and black sable cod. Delicious, and tastes and textures that aren’t found in Australian fish. So, this really was a great treat. We also had some very tasty Brussels sprouts, that seemed to maybe have a bit of a batter on them, and washed it all down with a bottle of Albariño. Oh, and we loved our waitress who had such a funny, upbeat personality, it made us smile whenever she was at the table. A great, memorable meal. $100 each, including a tip.

Our brunch was quite enjoyable, or we really should call it lunch because there were no eggs! Both my Salmon on Risotto and Jess’s Spaghetti Bolognese were well prepared. And we were happy about the oysters as well. I like how straightforward the food is here, letting the fresh ingredients speak for themselves. The service was nice, and I also felt relaxed with such a casual ambiance on the patio here.

Came here for a group birthday dinner using their separated dining space. Didn't try the seafood but the meatballs and bone marrow were quite good. Service was attentive and friendly (18% gratuity included).
Bone marrow starter was very rich and flavourful, wonderful on the toasted bread and acidic chimichurri sauce. Only gripe is the expensive price tag, when not a lot was done to the bone.
Kobe beef burger was the entrée, with a heap load of fries and a side salad. The burger patty was huge, but nothing special in terms of flavour or juiciness, I wouldn't recommend.
Had a few bites of pork chop which was very fatty but flavourful. Would recommend that one instead.

It's surprising to find heavy handed garlic in a seafood restaurant because the ingredient is so delicate. We had bison burger for lunch. It was good, but I could feel the garlic afterwards even though I requested garlic free. Grilled fish tends to be over cooked here. Their brunch is varied, but they were out of the baked gnocci at 1 pm when the restaurant wasn't packec. We played it safe by ordering the Classic breakfast. Not much can go wrong with two eggs and potatoes, right? Wrong. The potatoes had garlic specs and cheese, we are not supposed to eat cheese! Yikes. The salad was gritty. Disappointing. They get a 5 for good ingredients, 2 for execution, and 3 for service (only 1 wait person is pleasant so far.)

I came here randomly. I knew I wanted to eat, but I wasn't sure what I wanted. I can be pretty picky at times. After reading the menu a bunch of times and not feeling very inspired I decided to just get a salmon burger. I like salmon burgers. Normally they are slightly dry and I depend on the aoli mayo or whatever to help me get through it, but that's just the way it is with salmon burgers. They taste good, and are healthy, but usually just a little dry. That is NOT the case here. This was the best salmon burger I've ever had. Super moist and tender. Slightly blackened. I actually thought about taking all the toppings off of it so I could enjoy the salmon on its own. I'm assuming this filet had never been frozen before. If I ever have a craving for a salmon burger I know where to go. I would have taken a picture, but I was busy eating it.

Came to Wild Tale with a group of 10 or so coworkers. Service was outstanding, disputes my group being tough to deal with at times.
The oyster selection was great! And they were awesome! Edfingham and Sawmill oysters, can't go wrong with those.
I will definitely be back!
Eating With Kirby
For many years now, I’ve always either been very impressed or very disappointed with my Dine Out experiences. On the one hand, I get to try some incredible dishes made by chefs who use this opportunity to experiment with ingredients and show their true creativity. On the other hand, it can be a daunting and disappointing experience when you pay upwards of $50 after tax and tips, only to get a mediocre three course meal that tasted like it sat under a hot lamp for hours.
Every Day Is A Food Day
With 2017 Dine Out Vancouver underway, our first dine out of the year was at WildTale Coastal Grill in Yaletown. The interior has a rustic charm and is great as a date night spot. The Dine Out menu this year is $30 per person for three courses with wine pairings and add-ons available for extra charge.

What energy and ambience. I ordered my favourite Salmon and it was outstanding. The waitress was so respectful and attentive. Food, ambience, service and great atmosphere makes this Restaurant worth a visit or more.

After some crazy hours of shopping in DT, YAHHHH HAPPY HOUR!!! Everyone loves a good happy hour (I believe) LOL. Yaletown is an amazing neighborhood that you can find wide selections of restaurants and bistros. We randomly picked WildTale and we never been here before. Simple HH menu at a very reasonable prices. All bites come in small size at $6 and $2/pc shucked oyster (min. 1 dozen). HH runs from 3-6PM & 9 to close daily.

WildTale Coastal Grill is best known for their sustainable seafood and farm to table menu. Little did I know that also makes a mean brunch. Photo Credit: James Cheung/Hello Vancity. Of course we wouldn’t expect anything less from a restaurant that’s made its home in trendy Yaletown, and boasts kitchen talent such as John Crook and Erik Heck. Both Chefs have impressive resumes that include iconic Vancouver restaurants such as Joe Fortes and The Flying Pig to name a few.

Happy Hour at WildTale Coastal Grill in Yaletown is offered daily from 3-6PM and 9PM- close featuring a range of small places all priced at a very reasonable $6. Similar to Joe Fortes and many seafood-driven restaurants, they also offer shuck oysters ($2 each/ minimum 1 dozen).

This place has a great menu and incredibly reasonable prices. They have essentially most varieties of fish, even Sturgeon and while the presentation of the Seafood Trio was great, execution of the dish was awful. The potatoes were undercooked, radish was cold and both the salmon and ling cod were severely over cooked. Only properly served item was the Arctic Char. The prices here are super affordable, however wish the quality was better. I'd give this place one more shot, however would expect more.

Wild Tale Yaletown, $40 Dineout

-gave it 2/5 on Zomato.
-Didn't like all 3 courses.
-order bottled water or another beverage, their tap water tastes off

WildTale Corn & Seafood Chowder
fresh wild seafood, spicy jalapeno fritter

Rating: D+

Notes: Thick texture, premade which came out after 5 minutes of placing order. Surface was barely warm, bottom was hot. Fritter was lacking in flavour and had zero jalapeno in it, replaced by chives and corn, no spicy kick either. It was crispy however. Lots of variety of chunky fish present, but all were overdone and on the chewy side.

Blackened BC Snapper
spicy penne alla “puttanesca”, basil beurre blanc

Rating: D+

Notes: Best thing on the dish was the penne and tomato sauce, very tangy and appetizing, nicely al dente. Snapper on the other hand was at least 3-4 minutes overdone - all natural moisture was gone and left with a chewy fillet. Too much salt in the spices. Unseasoned raw bean also didn't add anything to the plate.

Duo of Yakima Valley Lamb
roasted lamb sirloin, risotto of braised shoulder
buttered asparagus, natural pan jus

Rating: C-

Notes: Good sear and grill flavour on the lamb and asparagus, very fragrant. Lamb sirloin was on the chewy side. Risotto was too salty with the braised shoulder being stringy. Texture was 'goupy' as opposed to creamy, not what I enjoy. Asparagus was rather bland. The jus kind of held it together, but the flavour I didn't find particularly special.

Bittersweet Chocolate Mousse
housemade biscotti

Rating: D

Notes: Mousse was thick like a ganache with little bit of chunky cherry sauce on the bottom hard to get at. Sweetness level was fine, but the flavour was way too plain and basic. Biscotti was hard and barely acceptable - although it had a decent orange flavour.
Drunken Noms
Everyone has a friend that they don’t see very often, but when they do, shit gets CRAZY. My friend is Stu-pac. We already used to drink way too much back when he lived here and I saw him regularly, but now that he lives in Atlanta and only visits once or twice a year, when we meet for drinks we mean business. He stopped back in town this week on his way down to Portland for an interview, and so we decided to grab “just a few drinks” the evening before he had to catch his greyhound down to the States. We also decided to invite Chicken Little along, which only worsened matters since she drinks alcohol like its water. Sure enough far too many drinks were consumed, and the night ended with Stu-pac and I drunkenly getting on skytrains in the wrong direction. Stu-pac should know better than to meet with me the night before an important trip.

I am confident to say that I found a go to happy hour place that I am very content with. Located in the heart of Yaletown, Wildtale Coastal Grill offers a very spacious and comfortable dining experience with seating inside the restaurant, bar, and patio. Their happy hour runs from 4 pm to 6 pm daily.

Thanks to a good friend of mine, I’ve been obsessed with WildTale. This is my second time at WildTale but my first time going for their Happy Hour menu (everyday from 4:00-6:00). The Happy Hour menu consists of $6.00 small plates and $5.00 wine and beer. Some items were a hit and some were a miss but overall, I’d come back (I already have a few times!). I also ordered some of my favourite regular menu items as well as dessert. WildTale delivers fresh, local and simple seafood and isn’t overpowered by seasoning. The only thing that is missing from this seafood restaurant that most other competitors have are oyster specials. If they added $1.25 – $2.00 specials to their Happy Hour menu, I think everyone would be coming here on the daily if not weekly.

Before I start, I didn't come here for food, but for some drinks when J and I were kind of bored in downtown. So, there's not going to be an intense discussion about food. Wild Tale features seafood dishes . Complimentary Banana Bread. I didn't have any room for food, but tried anyways to write something about it. It was pretty good actually. The bread was moist filled with rich banana flavours.
