Review Diva At The Met - Vancouver

Bagna Cauda is very good - smooth and flavourful. The bison short rib is okay, a bit disappointed with the texture, but flavour-wise is alright. The made-in-house parfait calls a good closure too, different layers of taste laminated on top of each other. The entree is certainly a bit disappointing but overall it’s not bad for dine out vancouver.

A little skeptical at first about a restaurant attached to a hotel...but what a discovery. The customer service, the food quality and portion sizes - the happy hour is nuts. My first impression has been forever changed - well done team. Wish I had taken more photos of the food, drinks and presentation. Every staff member as well were incredibly helpful, prompt, attentive and well dressed. 5 stars.

We were staying in the hotel and went to DIVA for happy hour. We found they had good food, good service and friendly staff and great happy hour prices for the food. Came back for breakfast and was happy to see the same except standard hotel pricing haha. I will definitely come back when I return to Vancouver.

Everything we had here was delicious! The truffle fries were very tasty. Would recommend the steak and frites. The burger was a good size and would also recommend. Our waitress was nice and very attentive.

The restaurant is very big and open which means there is plenty of room for social distancing and private space for your party. The food was good, especially enjoyed the duck ragu. Able to order ahead of time for large parties which was nice and saved a lot of time as the meals came out in a timely manner. Very accommodating.

Went at lunch. Room and menu are dated, but they have friendly service and good food. It was a weekday and there were only two other tables eating while we were there. Recommended if you need a working lunch.

Really enjoyed the Niçoise salad. Ordered 2x happy hour appetizers and was pleasantly surprised at the generosity of the portions. $4 Truffle Fries and $5 Brussel Sprouts were both highlights of the meal

Came here for a birthday dinner celebration and had an ok meal. Most of us ordered from the tasting menu option. The appetizers were outstanding. We had the beef carpaccio and scallops and pork belly. As I don't eat pork, the kitchen was very understanding to accommodate my order. They gave me an extra scallop in place of the procuitto, and for the chicken entree they separated the bacon so that it could be enjoyed by others. The portion sizes was very good and even generous when compared to other restaurants in this class. The fresh pasta dishes were good but due to timing did not come out hot- likely waiting for the other dishes. Overall, the entrees were good. Desserts were not very refined and the taste could be improved upon to complete the meal. Our server was nice and the venue was quiet.

Enjoyed one of the best meals of my life here over Easter weekend. Great location and tastefully decorated interior. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The lobster gnocchi was divine, I would also recommend the pork chop. We finished our meal off with the Stilton cheesecake and a pear tart. Truly a delicious meal from start to finish.

The food and presentation was fantastic!! We tried most of the items and the flavor pairing to die for. The staff and Sous Chef were filled with personalities that made the restaurant a place you want to be.. best service hands down!!

Both food & service was very good. Their tasting wine pairing is just right with the set 3 course menu. Definitely going back!

We had the sample menu with accompanying wines and it was superb. Best meal we had while we were in Vancouver by a long way

Fantastic service and very welcoming with extremely good team throughout establishment

Gonna be dreaming about the chilled foie gras and duo duck for quite some time. Given the outstanding service, attention to detail and superb tasting food, their tasting menu $55 is highway robbery. Best meal I've had in a while.

Very nice tasting menus. I miss the cheese balloon, though - one of the most creative and tasty items I've ever enjoyed. It tasted like stretched fresh mozzarella, filled with crème fraîche. Amazing.

I took my mom here for mother's day a few months ago. It was a special mother's day buffet and the food was exquisite! We enjoyed it very much. For sure will be going back to try their regular menu next time. Only complaint is that they didn't have a rail for stroller... but otherwise the service was great and my mom loved their complimentary rose for mothers.

Ceasar the Bartender is awesome Best service we have experienced so far in Vancouver. Great cocktails. We stayed in the hotel across the street but we definitely comeback again soon to see Ceasar . Cheers

Best place for business lunch. Must try their Smoked Black Cod and Caramelized Stilton Cheesecake.

If I could do four and a half stars, I would. I had a great time.

The service was great! All the servers and host were very attentive and friendly. We came here for dine out. We loved the appetizers (beef carpaccio and beet salad) and desserts (tiramisu and cheesecake).

It’s been many years since my last visit to Diva.  It’s aged very well, they’ve done a good job keeping the place fresh and contemporary. It’s spacious and bright, and modern. This complementary bread came out of sequence (arrived between the entree and dessert). I’m sure this was unintended.

It’s no secret that Diva at the Met is one of Vancouver’s iconic restaurants.  Located inside the Metropolitan Hotel in Downtown Vancouver, Diva at the Met specializes take pride in sourcing the highest-quality, local, organic and Ocean Wise ingredients.  Led by Executive Chef Ken Galley, Diva at the Met’s cuisine has international inspirations but also features Pacific Northwest flavours.  I recently had the chance to try out their new fall/winter menu featuring a three-course table d’hote menu priced affordably at $45.

I had breakfast this morning at Diva at the Met (it's in the Metropolitan Hotel).<br/><br/>I ordered the two free-range egg breakfast with roasted ham. It was okay, not great. It took a while from the time I ordered to the time it was a served (about 25 minutes). The might explain why there was such an inconsistency in the heat of the meal. The toast and ham were cold, the eggs and fruit were warm and the home fries were hot.<br/><br/>I won't be rushing back the next time I'm in Vancouver.

went for a birthday lunch celebration without my friend knowing it, ordered a few items, well i ordered the lunch special that is $29-35 3 courses which is definitely good for the price i must say, then my friend ordered a ling cod which is also definitely allright, ordered a few appetizers as well, i really love the truffle fries, love them. Also ordered ribs for appetizer that one is not as good as i have thought in mind, would rather have ribs some where else. then the main that i got, lamb shanks. The desert is just okay though. overall i say it's good but at the same time for the price that i'm paying i think it's definitely fair. will come back again if i'm in the area for lunch definitely :D

The Hot Chocolate Festival for 2016 has begun and my first pick this year is Diva at the Met and their intriguing chocolate globes and bombs. See the video in this post of them in action.

Good happy hour prices, and the dinner menu items looked solid, though I didn't partake. I had breakfast, and it was solid, but nothing expectational, despite the luxury hotel prices. The service at both happy hour and breakfast, was, however, excellent. Decent value. Just not the old Diva at the Met this placed used to be.

Dinner at diva!. My friend and I dined here last Saturday night and had a really nice meal and I had to write about it! Its a quiet restaurant in the Metropolitan hotel just next door to hawksworth. The waitress was nice and gave us a run down of the days specials, didn't order the special but did order lobster salad to start, pear and goats cheese salad for my friend and the tenderloin and sea bass for our mains. <br/>Amazing tenderloin, the bass i tried a small bite and tasted great! they do a great job of keeping the place ambient and they have a decent wine list aswell. It is a shame there was no buzz to the place, there was probably only 10 or more people in the restaurant on a Saturday night!! I enjoyed every part of my meal and would dine again.

Poor etiquette by management. I went to the Diva at the Met for a friends birthday party recently. While the décor of the restaurant, the quality of the food was very poorly handled.<br/><br/>We had a party of 24, and the rest of the restaurant was relatively empty. The first problem was that the food came out cold, and then for my rib eye steak it was supposed to have blue cheese rub on it, and there was none of that. Though they did provide HP sauce which I might as well have bought the steak at home and used my own HP sauce.<br/><br/>Then came the bills, and they couldn't do individual or "couple'ized" bills. They did set up the bill in 3 sections of 8, though was a little surprised they couldn't individualize the bills. Everyone at the table paid, and some had left cash on the table for their portion.<br/><br/>However, the restaurant said we were short on the bill as counted up the credit cards, and we asked if they had looked at the cash on the table to which the restaurant said there was not any or some of the waiters pulled out some but definitely didn't cover it. They went as far to chase us down across the street and into a different restaurant to ask for the $50 being short...on a $1800 meal. I am shocked that the manager would actually go into another restaurant to chase down for $50 especially when majority of our food was cold and they went as far as to ask "what would do you want us to do about it? we can make it pretty for you"<br/><br/>I usually don't send back food, and I didn't do so here, but considering the poor etiquette of the restaurant manager, I would not return

Great food, good ambience and excellent service.. All members in our group had the Diva Tasting Menu and were not disappointed in general with the dishes and their presentation.<br/>My personal favourite was the smoked black cod and the dark chocolate praline bar, while others in the group liked the yarrow meadows duck.<br/>Service was prompt with our water refilled, used cutlery and empty dishes removed like they were orchestrated.<br/>It would have been a perfect experience if we did not have to endure the BO and the BB every time the food was brought to our table and the dishes were introduced.<br/>The waiting staff have done a great job but could have been better if they showed any kind of passion instead of just sticking to a scripted routine.

Really impressed! The food is delicious and imaginative here. I had the best chicken I can remember, cooked to perfection and served with tasty potatoes (and I usually avoid that vegetable! ). Serving size was just right. Great service and the wine list is excellent. This place is underrated and well worth a visit.

Excellent Hosts!. I recently chose Diva to host an 18 guest birthday dinner for my girlfriend and was completely satisfied with every detail of the experience. Corey Bauldry took the time to work with me to ensure that every concern I had was addressed and was VERY accommodating. Well ahead of the date I was completely confident that everything was in order and this special day was going to be one to remember.<br/><br/>On the day, everything ran smoothly. There were no complications or disappointments here. I was, in fact, pleasantly surprised at just how well prepared the staff was for our table. They understood fully all the details I had discussed with Corey, and discreetly consulted me for anything that required my input.<br/><br/>Our waiter, Michael, had a wonderful sense of humor and not only attended to us promptly and professionally, but also kept the mood light and had my girlfriend laughing with joy all night long. All of the staff were great, and watching them work I was very reassured that I had selected the right venue.<br/><br/>The food was delicious, we had a set menu with oxtail broth to start (one of my friends sent me a mid-meal text requiring expletives to describe just how great it tasted!). We then had a choice of chicken or salmon, both prepared wonderfully and receiving very good reviews throughout the table. The chicken came with both a breast and a fried leg, with walla walla onion, chanterelle, natural jus. The Salmon was served with pickled cabbage, pork jowl, navy bean and oyster sauce. YUM!<br/><br/>Finally for dessert, I opted for a cake in lieu of the standard dessert, given it was a birthday celebration. After some discussion, we decided the cake would be made in-house by Pastry Chef Kate Siegel. I was a bit apprehensive about this as I wanted the cake to be a centerpiece and to impress. I had very specific requirements (in this case, I wanted a not-too-sweet dark chocolate base, and desired a chile chocolate as an inside nod to my girlfriend's Mexican heritage... and because I think it's awesome!). Kate blew us all away. During a very busy time for the restaurant with a warning that nothing too fancy would be possible, she delivered a dark chocolate mousse cake, infused with chili, and presented beautifully. Michael had some fun with the table presenting it, and it was a delicious crowning jewel to complete an already terrific meal.<br/><br/>It was an absolute pleasure to dine here, and I will definitely be back :)

Best fine dining. I hate foo foo dining but this is the few places in Vancouver where quality and tastes provides for good value for fine dining prices. Stick to seafood because it is probably the best in Vancouver. Seared Tuna appies were delicious. <br/><br/>Friendly staff, great food, good value for five star dining.

Absolutely one of the best meals my wife and I have ever had!!!! Fantastic service and outstanding food. The lobster appetizer was amazing!!!

Pork tacos. You gotta try the fois gras and pulled pork tacos appetizer. YUM!

Best hotel bar experience. A relaxed yet sophisticated environment with impeccable service. The bartender offered to make up a drink for us if we told her a few of our favorite base alcohols. She created one of the best drinks I have ever had. You can order small plates too and the burger was exceptional. Truly a top shelf experience.

5 stars for food and service!!! I feel like a diva :). My boyfriend and I came to Diva at the Met for our anniversary. Service was very good - we were served a complimentary teaser (salmon salad + crouton) AND a complimentary chef's creation of the scallops which was very original and tasty. Food we got - lamb, risotto, pork cheeks was FABULOUS. Desserts (cheesecake + souffle) were on one plate with fruits and 'happy anniversary' on it..I just love their attention to details and it definitely made my first visit at Diva a lovely, memorable experience! Although the main area was closed (I believe we dined in the lounge) the ambiance still had a nice classy feel. Fine dining is not cheap but I must say it was very well worth it. I definitely recommend Diva to those that have a passion for food!

Mmmmm, dessert!. I used to go to Diva a lot with the gf for dessert. They used to have a close partnership with Senses. They still carry a bit of Thomas Haas's desserts, but the staff there has changed a lot since a few years ago.<br/>It's still a great place to pop in for dessert after a night downtown.

They offered two hot chocolates: Sizzling Spice and Adults Only – the second one contained alcohol, hence the ‘age exclusive’ name. Both were priced at $8 and since I went with a friend, with decided to try both of them. “Adult’s Only” : a semi-sweet concoction of  Callebaut cocoa and Valrhona served with a chocolate lid that had a Bailey’s ball at the top. The lid slowly melts and becomes part of the beverage as the heat from the hot chocolate cause it to ‘implode’ and sink into the drink. It was served with a mini Matcha Green Tea Cake. Sizzling Spice was next, and it seemed to be the same hot chocolate mixture, but this time it was served with a vial of richly spiced herbal tea and was served with a Raspberry tea cake and piece of chocolate on the side. Sorry for the weird focusing of the picture. Both hot chocolates were good, the first one seemed to have a hint of alcohol, but it was not that obvious. The second one tasted as if it had cinnamon and spices in it (which it did), and you could adjust the strength of those flavours by controlling how of the vial you decide to mix into the drink.

Pretty carb heavy eh? Well the five course meal finally started with the Salmon Tataki accompanied with pickled vegetables, sorrel and a nice funnel of watermelon radish. I l o v e d the salmon. Seared and marinated perfectly so the ginger seasoning was strong enough. The fish meat pulled apart just right too.The Smoked Black Cod was our next dish which came with an olive, tomato, capers, and almonds. The cod was perfectly cooked-juicy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The meat pulled apart nicely and really packed a punch when you add the mixture of tomato with it. Another one of my favourites was the dish after - Prime Beef Tenderloin with braised root vegetable fricasse doused with red beet root jus. The beef was warm but oh my god was it juicy. The tenderloin lacked a bit of that classic “beef” taste so it’s understandable that the red beet juice really helped to bring out that strong flavours of the meat. I need more of this quality of beef in my life. The last dis

A work meeting at the Metropolitan Hotel resulted with dinner in their board room. Servers were called and we had everything we needed carted up to us, even a punch bowl full of alcoholic beverages. The menu’s offerings were the same as what is available in the lobby restaurant, “Diva at the Met”. The setting is what was unique to us, a chance to enjoy good food in a private setting, just for us. A great way to make any work meeting more enjoyable.

Underwhelmed, is the exact word I would use to describe the experience in its entirety - aberrations fleeting in my mind rather than ever lasting memories.
Flavor Budz
Diva’s chef, Hamid Salimian, is very underestimated, and deserves more recognition! His food is some of the best in Vancouver, and is extremely delicious! Their tasting menu is super affordable – even underpriced! An impressive addition to Vancouver’s culinary representation. Here are some of the courses (from back in November, 2012): This was especially interesting because black isn’t a natural food color. The bread is sort of like a variation of a molecular muscle flavor. Cool! As you can tell, these dishes are not from your average Vancouver dine-out experience! Overall The service was good! They were informative and friendly. The food had great quality, a nice presentation, is creative and tasty. You can tell that they care about the food, and are trying to develop into more innovations. The atmosphere was calm, modern, and upscale-formal. Definitely check it out if you’re looking for a hip, new, tasty, original place in Vancouver! Rating: 8/10 See

I was blown away from the attentiveness and amiableness of the workers, and the dishes definitely went over the expectations I had set. The ambiance however, is definitely missing something as it does not suit the rest of the spectacular components that the chef, Hamid Salimian has established. Regardless, this modest restaurant deserves more

Chef Hamid is one of the most humble yet inventive chefs I know, so when this appeared on the menu, it was time to try it out. Wow! Amazing grown-up flavours explode in your mouth, accented by the crispy crunch of the perfectly fried cornmeal batter. A definite must try! Maybe start it off with an order of Humboldt Squid, one of my favourites.

So, “Diva at the Met” is kind of a silly name for a restaurant. I just wanted to get that one nit-picky criticism out the way, because the rest of this post is going to be embarrassingly gushing because THIS WAS THE BEST GODDAMN MEAL IN THE UNIVERSE. My mom was visiting the coast from the snowy hellscape we call home, so we made reservations at Diva based off something my wife had read on one of those “best bites in Vancouver”-type blogs. Then a week before she arrived Diva’s Chef Hamid Salimian appeared on the cover of the Straight’s “Golden Plates” issue, voted by industry peers as the best chef at the most underrated restaurant in town. So yeah, we were excited about our pick. That excitement reached Game of Thrones -premiere fever pitch when we sat down and were told that since it was recently the Persian New Year, the Iranian-born Chef’s tasting menu was Persian-inspired, an annual tradition that is the regarded as Salimian’s finest work. So this was to be a truly amazing meal, an

We visited Diva  before and the impression is: food not bad but the lighting is too dim. Then a new chef, Hamid Salimian, has come to Diva.  He was a chef of  Westin Apron and is famous for Molecular gastronomy. Even though Molecular gastronomy already has some history, it’s still pretty rare in Vancouver. They have two tasting menu. 5 courses without wine pairing $55 7 courses without wine pairing $75. It’s our first time to try molecular gastronomy. The experience at Diva does not bring us many surprises.<br/><br/>I guess it’s because I have some fancy expectation of this new technique, hahaa.<br/><br/>The food is great and I really love the display of the dishes. Decent and beautiful.<br/><br/>Definitely are pieces of arts.
Constant Cravings
It’s Dine Out Vancouver time! This year I chose to go to Diva at the Met. I actually had no idea where the Met was before but it turns out that it’s right next to the Hotel Georgia and across from Four Seasons so it’s in a very convenient location. The restaurant has a separate entrance beside the hotel’s main entrance. The restaurant has 3 small levels separate by a few steps but it makes it feel rather grand when you’re walking to your table. I also got a great view of the open kitchen!

I had an amazing dinner with a friend of mine. I've been reading about Chef Hamid Salimian (executive Chef of Diva) on a popular food blog - so I've been interested in trying his food out for awhile. He's also one of the chefs that I've heard of dabbling in molecular gastronomy in his dishes. One day I just called up a friend - want to go out for dinner? And away we went!<br/><br/>

...first time trying a restaraunt serving molecular gastronomy food, really interesting experience, but my friends did not enjoy it. The atmosphere was great, we were put by the kitchen and saw the head chef yelling orders. My water was always promptly refilled

Diva at the Met presently offers a 5-course or 7-course "Persian Tasting Menu". If you've ever had Persian food  and think you know what it is, you should definitely go. This is NOTHING like Persian food. Yet the ingredients and flavours give it a decidedly Persian / middle-eastern influence. At this point, it is very dangerous to give too much away because what comes to your table is guaranteed to blow you away. From the starter snacks (complimentary, and do not count toward the courses) to the palate cleanser to the dessert at the end, you will be treated to dishes that have clear flavours which do not smother each other. There is a sense that nothing is without purpose and everything is exquisitely composed. Plating will delight you with its prettiness, intrigue you with its often hidden-by-layers content, or surprise you with its simplicity or oddness. To show you any pictures here would be to spoil your experience. When I go to restaurants, I immediately order the weirdest-soundin
Every Day Is A Food Day
For Valentine’s Day, S took me to Diva at the Met , which is located at the Metropolitan Hotel. On the day, they only offered the set menu and you were not able to order off the a la carte menu. That night, they offered a four course menu for $80 a person. There are two choices: the Diva or the Divo. The Diva is supposed to be catered for the girl, while the Divo is for the guy. However, you are open to choosing either depending on which menu you prefer more. Of course, I wanted to try everything, so I went for the Diva, while S got the Divo. Lobster Bisque The Divo menu starts off with the Lobster Bisque , which has a truffle cappuccino foam. The consistency is rather thick and you can definitely taste hint of the truffle cappuccino. Octopus Carpaccio For the Diva, it starts with the Octopus Carpaccio , which was probably my favourite of the night. The dish was beautifully presented, with lots of colours. It featured lobster, quail egg, and heirloom tomatoes. The octopus was thinly cut and cooked perfectly. It had just the right chew and the tomatoes made the dish very refreshing. The lobster was fresh and the meat was tender.

$55 for a 5 course meal is a bargain! Chef Hamid Salimian, ”may be the city’s most underrated chef”. He is voted by industry as “Best Chef in Vancouver” for the 16th Annual Golden Plates Awards 2013 hosted by the Georgia Straight newspapers. He’s been around The Apron in Richmond’s Westin Wall Center, Westin Bear Mountain Victoria, etc. Chef Hamid Salimian brings a refined Persian Fusion fine dining to your table, using modern gastronomy technique which is unique in the Vancouver market. I was more than ecstatic to come indulge on his tasting menu.

Service was impeccable, and I was well taken care of from my first course to the last. Staff were very knowledgeable about their food and gave their personal recommendations. I love most of the dishes tonight and I have to say this is one of the best menu I’ve tasted this year.

Our $38 Dine Out menu offering started with the appies including the Humboldt Squid served with moroccan sausage, mild poblano pepper, and olives. The tender squid morsels were probably the best we had during this round of Dine Out.

Holiday season is said to be the most wonderful time of the year.  No doubt, it is also one of the busiest and most stressful time of the year too.  While I expected myself to be quite busy at my job, I didn't expect to be thrown off course with a flu that hit me one night like a ton of bricks which left me to be repaired for the next few days.  While the sickness may have tarnished my holiday spirit slightly, I knew I would do whatever it take to look and feel my best for our family Christmas dinner at Diva at the Metropolitan hotel in downtown Vancouver.   I am a fan of innovative cooking techniques and concepts, so I was looking forward to see what new gastronomic adventure was awaiting us tonight.  The service at Diva was top notch.  Valet parking at the hotel is complimentary after the restaurant gives you a stamp for your parking, which is valid for 3 hours.  Who doesn't love convenience? I absolutely loved the salad, the combination of the apples and the goat cheese was sublime. The pork was crispy to perfection – and the beets brought out the flavour of the pork even more so. It was delicious.

For our pre-show dinner, before seeing Bridge Mix 2011, a site specific theatre production at the Metro Parkade on West Pender, we went to Diva at the Met Restaurant. It was a pleasant twenty minute walk to Granville and Howe, and we noticed that on a few of the boards covering broken windows from the previous evening's mayhem, people had written comments expressing the anger at the rioters and support for the city and our Canucks. The three of us decided to share a bottle of the 2009 Giesen Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand, and we sipped happily while we debated what dishes to order. We decided to share a variety of appetisers and our server agreed that she would not bring them out one all at once. Tags Diva at the Met food critic restaurant review Vancouver restaurant read more

After only a few bites of Diva’s corn dog, my stomach was revolting at how incredibly rich the deep-fried sausage was so I only managed to finish half of it. But if your stomach can handle rich foods better than mine, then this dish would be worth ordering for the novelty alone.
