Located on Homer Street between Helmecken and Nelson, SVB is currently (June 13, 2020) open for take-out. Line up safely, place an order and pay at the counter and wait for your order at one of three tables designated for the purpose. It worked smoothly and we walked around the corner to Emery Barnes Park to enjoy our treats. SVB's entry in the Croissant Challenge is a Freshly Milled Buckwheat Croissant with Valrhona Dark Chocolate Bannetons. Really tasty! I'm feeling like the buckwheat added a measure of earthy flavour but it was also buttery and rich. The chocolate really added a serious punch. Try this! Of course, we had to try a couple of other things too. This Lemon Cranberry Scone could win the scone challenge if there was such a thing going on. It wasn't overly sweet and just crumbly enough. Finally, we tried an apple tart which was also tasty. Dessert for breakfast is a good thing. Lots of fruit for a small pastry and we recommend it. We completed this delicious breakfast with a decent Americano. Lots of choices here beyond even what is in the pastry case. If it was close to home, we'd add on the pounds pretty quickly I think. When they open up their dining area, it will be a great place to relax and enjoy a treat and a coffee.

This is a busy location but both times I've went, we manage to snag a table after hopping around some temporary spots on benches and random chairs. It doesnt feel catastrophic due to high ceilings. Great upbeat vibe. Almond croissant was delicious and crispy, but quite oilier than others I've had. They must put almond butter in the middle as my fingers were left greasy. The coffee is good, so i would definitely be returning regularly. I did find things to be pricey, but it is Vancouver. Both times I went, I found the separate coffee bar to be a bit confusing as I didnt know when and where I would pick up my drink. I often had the feeling they missed my order.

Review is for Granville St. Beautiful bakery. Coffee is spot on, small menu with great food presentation. Nice staff and quick service. This is close to home so will definitely be a regular stop.

After suffering bad coffee in Whistler for a week. Yes they make it in buckets with garden hoses we looked forward to some decent coffee in Vancouver. We found it. Nice good quality sandwiches and cakes. Worth a drop in. Went on a Sunday arvo, seats a bit tight. Lots of singles hogging the tables with Mac books!

The place just has a university vibe to it. Lots of one-on-one tables, people on MacBooks and chatty conversions.

The coffee is not half bad! Being an Aussie and a born coffee snob, the piccolo was up there with your above average Aussie cafes.

The sandwiches come out hot and freshly made. Good fillings and lots if taste. That bread though... delicious! The roasted pepper chicken breast was perfect to warm me up on this cold winters day. Still can feel the cajun sauce in my lips.

The salted caramel cheesecake is decadent without being to sweet. Its fluffy and creamy and goes so well with the bitterness of the coffee and the slight chili taste left over from my sandwich.

The staff are fun and energetic. The food came out quick. I like how everything comes on its own hipster serving board. No pressure to move on even though there's lines at the counter.

One thing that I miss about Melbourne whenever I'm travelling is coffee. Nothing beats the coffee culture in Melbourne, and being able to get any caffeine fix is very important to me. Enter Small Victory Bakery. This cafe/bakery reminds me of home, from the friendly laid-back service to the cafe aesthetics and also the great coffee and pastries. I got to savour the most enjoyable cup of latte since my arrival in Canada - full-bodied, balance and rich. I also got to indulge in some lovely baked goods. The bacon and cheese scones was rich and crumbly, and the almond croissant was pleasantly flaky and buttery despite being a bit dense in the middle.

I'm sure if I were in Vancouver longer, Small Victory would be my go-to cafe for coffee.

Love the coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Best place to hang out on a Saturday casual brunch. I like sitting and watching the Barista make their drip coffee and the staff busy in the back of the open kitchen.

Small Victory is a popular bakery in Downtown that I've been meaning to visit for the longest time. The place was pretty busy when I arrived there this Sunday morning, and I could see the staff members stocking the display case with a beautiful assortment of cakes, tarts, and pastries. I had a bacon & cheese croissant and a cinnamon brioche bun.

Bacon & Cheese Croissant (around $5): 5/5; It had a really flaky crust that melted in my mouth and a generous, savoury slice of bacon inside. I polished this off in no time.

Cinnamon Brioche Bun (around $5): 5/5; Again, the pastry was melt-in-my-mouth. The sugar and cinnamon coating had a perfect level of sweetness and spice, and I absolutely loved the cream cheese frosting (in my opinion, a cinnamon bun's not complete without cream cheese frosting), which was sweet and tangy, and had flecks of vanilla bean speckled throughout.

If I judged only by the food that I've tried, this place would be a 5. Unfortunately, I am turned off by the prices for their cakes and tarts: they were way too high for the portion sizes being offered. Although I would love to try one of their cheesecakes or cruffins, I just couldn't justify paying $5-$6 for something that I could probably finish in 2-3 bites. But I'd definitely be back for their delicious and more reasonably sized viennoiserie.

Food & drinks here at Small Victory are relatively reasonably priced. I would order any of the croissants again and again. The cakes also looked very pretty. There are not that many seats, and people tend to hang around at coffee shops, so finding a seat here could be a challenge during peak times.

Yaletown may have it’s share of cafes but never a mix of cafe and bakery like Small Victory. This shop has a cool aesthetic to it with it’s marble counter tops, hexagonal plates and gold trim. The pastries are baked in house in the open kitchen, just like your coffee. Their matcha is fantastic – I prefer my matcha not too sweet and Small Victory delivers with a nice hint of sweetness and roasted flavour.

Great little coffee shop with delicious pastries both savory and sweet. Amazing coffee!

Stopped in for a quick pastry and a coffee with a friend. It's always super busy but I like the vibe and the food here is good. I've yet to try something I didn't like. My friend got the chicken pot pie and I snagged a bite ...mmmmm so good. I got a lemon tart and cinnamon tea and my friend had an amazing mocha.

All around I'll be back more than once, it's a good stop when on that side of town!

Super cute spot for a casual date. I liked the idea of getting mini desserts and doing a sort of tasting (extra points for presentation!). The salted caramel cheesecake is a MUST and I also enjoyed the lemon tart. Definitely on the pricier side but worth it, can't wait to go back!

Side note: After my first visit I decided to order a cake from them for an event. I emailed twice with no reply, called multiple times but their line kept breaking up and later nobody was picking up. Overall terrible service when trying to get a hold of them.

Another Cutsie place to eat. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast croissant with a mocha and my friend ordered the chicken pit pie I believe. The barista was super sweet, as we basically sat at the table where he was making drinks. The food itself was delicious and the place was pretty crowded with people. Don't think it's the best place to study since it is super packed, but I still saw some people that had their laptops out.

Amazing coffee. They seriously know their coffee and serve it well. Being from Melbourne, Australia, we have high standards. These guys surpassed these standards! Had a nice brekky croissant with my double shot espresso macchiato. Not a fan of cooked lettuce but whatever, it was fresh and the Cook was attentive.

What an awesome little coffee shop! Nice airy layout, ample seating, and freshly baked yummy goods are all highlights of this place. Now if they'd only rethink their "horchata" and find a way to make it with real tiger nuts (chufas), I'd instantly give them a 5-star rating!

had a strawberry shortcake and a wagonwheel

i will say that the place is in the heart of yaletown and accesible by skytrain and the place inside gives a spacious feeling due to open kitchen concept. then moving on to the desert.

the wagonwheel, it have a crunchy outer layer of chocolate but also not that thin that when you hold it and when only when you bite it the layer of chocolate breaksdown. as for the inside not sure what filling it's there's the sponge type of cake inside and when you chew it it became granule like sweet flavored sands and a cream that is mild enough to bypass the cake but blends well with the chocolate as well.

as for the shortcake strawberry, the layering and the taste is perfect i'll say. The taste of the berries on top overwhelms any of the topping, however it balances the really soft flavor of cream and cake underneath it.

would really recommend this place to anyone who's into desert, but me , i'm not fond of sweet delicacies, will only come here if i got a date, or recommending desert ;)

One of the best coffee shop/bakeries in town, without a doubt! The coffee they have is fantastic - way better than the chains, and notably better than all the other stand alone coffee shops I've been to. Their baked goodies are also extremely fresh, flavorful, and totally worth the money.

Our 'regular' orders here are the drip coffee, the bacon & cheese croissant, and scones. The bacon & cheese croissant melts in your mouth and has enough butter in between layers of the croissant's shell to... oh what the heck, butter makes things better, doesn't it? And it has bacon! :) I don't quite remember the names of some of the sweet things I've had there, but suffice to say, they're brilliant! Not sure why some people think of this place as trying to be pretentious - it isn't, it's just an awesome coffee shop.

Sophia Rizos brought me to this lovely Cafe/Bakery in Yaletown. As I walked down Homer I could smell the baked goods from a block away, I kid you not.

I loved everything about this place. I had a London Fog tea latte that was just absolutely perfect; it wasn't too sweet and the tea had a strong taste. The staff was so great, and they're not bad at latte art either!

The interior is super aesthetically pleasing and all the baked goods looked delicious. I will 200% be back to try the fruit tart. Thanks for introducing me to this gem Sophia!

The real story of a great coffee shop is finding someone who is passionate, knowledgeable and radiates complete satisfaction from their work. So when we pause on the page of this chapter, you’ll glimpse a picture of the barista at the magical Small Victory in upscale Yaletown.Joseph’s a small, compact guy with a quick smile. Comfortably moving his way around the bar like a speedball blur with quick movements, he is reminiscent of a soccer player skillfully navigating the ball around opponents. Carefully measuring water, grinding and bagging coffee, meticulously cupping coffee at each pour, making a pour over, whipping up a Matcha, dispensing a cold brew, explaining the finer nuances of a tea.Small Victory is Stop 19 in our weekly Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee.

Small Victory has a great array of baked goodies as well as come cheesecake! Located in Yaletown, they are a just a few blocks away from the Canada Line. I had a hard time choosing something since everything in the display case looked equally appetizing. This was the Pistachio Cream Cake. I love how they serve everything on a wooden board! So hipster! I must say that the pistachio cream cake lacked pistachio flavour though. It tasted mostly like the lemon filling in the middle and the vanilla cream on top. Not that I minded since it was still a very pleasant treat. The cake was a little more dense than I expected but still moist.

I've been to SV a couple of times now, and this is a great place to just casually chill and take a break from running your errands. I love their decor which is nice and clean with a minimalistic touch ! Their coffee bar does not disappoint as they consistently make a mad green tea latte ! Coffee aside, I find that their bakery section is a tad on the pricier side. I ended up trying the lemon tart which looked so cute as an afternoon snack. Although it was good overall, I did find the lemon to be too sour...

Sipped on a delicious London Fog latte and snacked on a slice of coconut cake while working on my laptop at the bar. The latte had pronounced flavours and the perfect amount of fine foam. The cake was soft and had a thin coating of frosting, which was ample because the layer of coconut cream in the middle provided all the necessary moistness. I loved that the coconut coating was toasted and the coconut flavour really came through. Although there is no wifi, I still loved working here. There aren't a ton of tables, but if you're lucky enough to snag one, I definitely recommend doing so. I will be back to dry more drinks and baked goods!

Having seen mouthwatering photos from Small Victory Bakery on Instagram, I was enticed to try out their coffee and baked goods.  For a late Friday afternoon coffee break, I headed down to Small Victory Bakery with my husband. Minimalistic & Clean Space. Upon entering the bakery, I was impressed with their minimalistic, clean and wood-accented space.  Large, gold-coloured geometric shapes adorn the wall.  The interior is spacious but there seems to be only a few tables for seating.  There are, however, many seats at the bar.  With Small Victory’s open kitchen concept, sitting at the bar provides a great view of the the baristas preparing drinks.  One thing to remark is that there is a short flight of stairs leading to the main area so this cafe is not accessible-friendly for wheelchairs and strollers.

Posted on May 23, 2015 by mag_mei I was here today meeting with a manager of Zamato. And what better  place to meet a fellow food lover than at a place serving artisan drinks and gourmet pastries. My guest boasted how this was her favourite bakery and how she is here multiple times a week, or even multiple times within the same day. And even as one who doesn’t like sweets, she did like what they served. She wasn’t kidding about her being here a lot. The staff recognized her and a few even stopped to highlight that fact. A few asked her, her name and many made small talk. If this was any indication of the level of service, I would say they were successful at delivering. The bakery is simple inside and out. No flashy signs, no bold colours. Not even a sandwich board on the sidewalk in front. Just a white veneer and gold type face on the windows. You could definitely miss it, if it weren’t for the hoards of patrons lining up and the rotating of bodies in and out of tables. Vaulted ceilings, birch wood floors and cabinets, white walls, and their name in gold script at the back. What was most striking was the abstract wall art by the seating area. Geometric shapes constructed out of metal rods, spray painted in gold. They jutted out of the wall in a three dimensional fashion. Their shine matched that of the golden tap at the help yourself utensil, condiment, and water counter adjacent. There aren’t many small tables and there isn’t much room by the counter, but we managed to wrangle a seat after ordering. You start by the window, where their glass counter showcasing all their cakes and pastries was on display. Savoury croissants and cheesy scones. For something sweet: slic

They’ve got a really great coffee menu that they rotate. This is the reason that I keep on going back, and it happens to be right next to my office. The baked goods: scones, muffins and croissants have also been consistently good, especially the maple walnut scone and pecan tart. The one time that I went and actually sat down, I got the roasted veggie sandwich which was a bit disappointing, nothing special. My friend had the meat pie which was stuffed full and had a nice flakey crust.

Great Americanos - every time!  And the pastries are fabulous too. Croissants are crispy and flaky outside while remaining deliciously soft and light on the inside. Cheesecake is nice and savoury, not too sweet. Perfection. My only criticism is that sometimes when I get the fresh juice in the mornings it is not mixed well and tastes bitter. This happened twice and both times they gave me a new one, which was great. Staff are all very nice.

Earl Gray Tart. Creamy. Just the right sweetness. Tender, flaky crust. Delicious!

EDIT: Hmmm, I thought I was just adding a menu item, but for some reason, Urbanspoon turned it into a review. Well, if you *insist*... I will add that their drip coffee was pretty good too and no charge on the refill. Not sure if that was an oversight, and it was before I ordered the tart, which is $4. That may seem pricey for such a small thing (2-4 bites), but a) this is Yaletown, not Costco or Walmart, and b) because it's *not* Costco or Walmart, it's not *about* quantity. Frankly, a treat like this shouldn't be any bigger. It was just right, and the price is right too, for something of this quality crafted on-premise. This, from someone who does 90% of their grocery shopping at Walmart. I recognize it's an indulgence, not something I'd be stuffing in my piehole every day.

The cafe is located in Yaletown, and was actually quite busy when I dropped by on this rainy Wednesday afternoon. Love the modern, geometric design of the shop.  Sophia ordered a Chai Rooibos Latte , and I got just a basic   Cappuccino ($3.50) .  The flavour was rich and dominant.. a decent cup of capp! Small Victory Bakery offers decent eats and drinks. However I did not feel the small victory that I was wishing for, finding the price tags unjustified with the overall tasting experience. As I don’t mind paying a bit more for originality or quality ingredients, it is hard for me to fall in love with fancy places that exploit the insecurities of the middle class.

The best you'll currently find in Yaletown for pastries and baked goods. Yaletown didn't offer much for baked goods and pastries for a long time, the quality of the croissants in this area were particularly mediocre. When I first heard that a dedicated bakery was opening up, I was excited to see what they would bring since I work in the area. I've tried Small Victory four times now, once for lunch and three for quick snacks/breakfasts and am mostly impressed. The quality bump you get from this place almost nudges out the price except for lunch where I find it a little too much. I'll go into some more specifics of each visit.

First trip was in the one morning soon after they opened. I found there wasn't much selection but I think they were just figuring themselves out and what they wanted to offer. Had a really nice scone but it wasn't amazing although since it was much better than any other scone I've had from Yaletown it still warranted giving them another try.

Second trip I went in the afternoon and they were in the process of changing the signs around so I had to ask what each thing was. I was told one was banana bread and went with that since there were no savoury options. I wish they had mentioned it was chocolate banana bread when I had asked as I wouldn't have ordered it, the bread part seemed quite well made but seemed drowned in chocolate. Since not liking chocolate or nuts in my banana bread is my own taste that is contrary to what's most common I still wanted to give lunch a shot too.

Third trip I met a friend for lunch and tried the braised beef sandwich with a side spinach salad and coffee. The price felt a little heavy for as it came to more than $18 but that was due to getting a pour over coffee. The sandwich and side together cost almost as much as getting a braised tenderloin sandwich from West Oak. It feels like the price difference between a cafe and a restaurant like West Oak should be greater but I wouldn't call it insanely expensive at these prices. That being said it was quite a tasty sandwich, expected the beef to be a little juicier but it was tender and flavourful. Bread was hearty and well toasted and the spinach salad was well dressed with some candied nuts and grapes. It won't be a daily or even weekly lunch for me at those prices but I'd get it again sometime. There was an issue where it seems my name & dine-in option were incorrectly written down and someone scooped it up the incorrectly named take-out order right as I was about to ask if it was actually my order. After another later arriving table got their sandwiches I checked up to see if my lunch was still coming and we found out what had happened. They corrected things pretty quickly and then someone even came by after to apologize and gave me a free pastry or coffee coupon. Sure it's better if these mistakes don't happen but I think they handled it with class.

Fourth trip was today to use up my coupon and was very pleasantly surprised in the expansion of their selection. There were more savoury options including sausage rolls and butter croissants. Being a bit of a croissant fiend I couldn't resist trying them as they looked well made enough that I was hopeful they might live up to the standard that Beaucoup Bakery & Cafe has set. It definitely had a crunchy exterior and is the best I've had in the area but didn’t quite live up to my hopes. The butter flavour was a little too gentle for my taste and I found it to be on the tough and chewy side instead of flaky. It seemed like the inside of the croissant looked like it only had a dozen or so layers total so it seems like maybe the dough hadn’t been folded enough or some of the layers had been worked together. Even with these detractions it was still a very enjoyable croissant and worth eating unlike what most cafes try to pass off as croissants. They are close to having a great croissant instead of a good croissant and I earnestly hope they keep improving.

All in all, they are a solid addition to Yaletown and fill a niche that has been empty for far too long. I look forward to seeing more from them in the future.

From newly-opened bakeries to a taphouse under a hotel, this crawl covered everything. For this crawl, the check-in was at Kingston Taphouse and Grill. Check-in is quick and easy, you present your ticket or give your name, and you are given your ‘passport’ for the crawl. Your passport is required to show to each restaurant you visit, and it conveniently has a map on the back with all of the marked locations you can visit. Since there is no specific order you must visit the restaurants, you can plan your own route to hit up the restaurants. My personal favourites were Small Victory Bakery and Bella Gelataria. Once again, there was an abundance of food, and this time I ended up packing home the food from the last couple of stops. The service at each stop was similar to the last Brunch Crawl I did- quick, efficient and welcoming. I wish I could go on a Brunch Crawl every weekend! Kingston Taphouse & Grill Cornbeef hash, banger with confit cherry tomato, gravlax with dill and chive hollandaise on a buttermilk biscuit. Shuraku Sake Bar and Bistro California roll with migas, Signature BBQ Back Ribs, Seasonal green gomae.   Bella Gelateria Yaletown Chocolate G Cookie with Tahitian Vanilla Gelato, Il Tricolore Brunch Pizzza, Italian Toast Small Victory Bakery Your choice of a latte, cappuccino or hot chocolate, a box filled with a chocolate hazelnut almond croissant, almond and blueberry brioche, kouign amann, and a full sized, freshly baked baguette! Frankie’s Italian Kitchen Chicken and Waffles, Andre Monsieur- rye bread sandwich with brie, fontina cheese, prosciutto, sopprasseta, hollandaise and egg. The Copper Chimney Butter Chicken, garlic naan bread and basmati rice Nourish Vancouver Light Green and Carrot, Orange, Ginger cold pressed juices from The Juice Box Breakfast sandwich- frittata with farm fresh eggs, roasted leeks, kale, shiitake mushr

What I like so far about SVB, is clearly how hard their working and trying. They're already very well staffed with a bunch of workers in their different areas, pouring over every detail.

Have to stop by for a post yoga workout. Arrived around 115p so it wasn't crowded. I had the Chicken Pot Pie for lunch. Loved that flaky crust. Filling is flavorful and chunky, not a lot of gravy. I picked up some desserts to go: shortbread cookies, lemon tart, passion fruit cheesecake, strawberry tart, and pear tart because I just can't control myself and I like to share. Friendly staff, great seating area. Outlets available at the tables.

First of all, I love the branding and look of the store - very much appreciated! Most importantly though - great pastries, sweets, and breads! My boyfriend and I got the regular croissant, an almond croissant, and a chocolate cake. All pretty great - I’d say I would skip out on the chocolate cake next time though - very rich and dense, but still great. I’d love to come back and try their croissant donuts next time! Can’t wait.

Their baked goods are delicious and I am addicted to their almond croissants. Flaky, buttery and the right flavor. Their scones are moist, flaky, and very light. The service great and I love that they have a patio extended to the street, which makes it very dog friendly.

The almond croissant was excellent, but the croissant donut with pistachio cream filling was not good. No really texture and the cream didn’t taste nice at all. Service was friendly and I would return to have the almond croissant again and try some of their other goods. It’s a pretty wide selection.

This is a cute cafe in yaletown. Great place to sit and chat with friends may it be inside or out on the patio. They got lots of pastries, desserts and brunch! I ordered the latte with oat milk and it was really good, got the 12 ounce but it left me wanting more. My friends got the lemon tart and double chocolate layer cake slice, while I got the chocolate chunk cookie. I’d say for what you get, everything is fairly priced in comparison to other cafes. If you get the chocolate cake slice, would definitely recommend sharing it with someone as its pretty rich and dense (in a good way) - would recommend to all chocolate lovers and it’s priced well. The lemon tart was like a lemon meringue and it was quite refreshing, but I feel a bit small for the price you pay. Lastly, the cookie was a bit on the sweeter side, which make it pair well with a coffee or tea. One thing to note was that it was quite buttery and greasy. It satisfied my cookie loving cravings though. If you’re in the area looking for a cute cafe with a variety of food options and good coffee, come here. I really have no complaints!

Super cute bakery that has a nice aesthetic. I highly recommend their almond croissants. But, everything is super yummy here so choose whichever one speaks to you most. There's a time limit to how long you can sit inside, but it's the perfect amount of time to enjoy a small snack and drink your coffee at the same time.
