I’ve surprisingly never been to The Flying Pig even though they have two other locations (Gastown and Olympic Village). Finally made it out for happy hour in Yaletown!. A few specials they had that evening. We dropped in on an early Thursday evening (around 5:00pm). People were already taking advantage of happy hour which is weekdays (3:00pm to 6:00pm) and weekends (4:00pm to 6:00pm).

First time here with three friends and was seated at the patio as it’s very hot and noisy inside. Our waiter was very nice as he explained the menu to us and gave some recommendations and their bestseller. The way he explained the menu is enticing so we decided to order his suggestions. The foods were very delicious and flavourful. We were surprised and happy about the big serving size of the cake we ordered for dessert. Very pricey but worth it.

Nice and small restaurant. Very good atmosphere and quality food. But only disadvantages for large group, is that they don’t take reservation before hand. So it is advisable to reach early and enjoy the place.

Tasty tapas & great service.

Great selection of drinks & good food. Whether you are here for a good solid meal or eats with drinks.

My recommendation- grab a group to try their various appetisers. Get a good tasting of what’s on offer!

The Flying Pig Restaurants is a Canadian local restaurant. It has 3 locations in the lower mainland, includes Gastown, Yaletown and Olympic Village.  I went to the Flying Pig only once with my classmates on the weekdays. Although it was a weekday, the restaurant was so busy. I am strongly suggested to make a reservation before you go.

Environment:

The restaurant is divided into two parts. People can eat inside or they can eat at the patio. Since lots of people were inside the restaurant, we decided to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Service:

The servers in this restaurant were all nice and friendly. After we sat down, the server came to our table fast and took drink orders from us. The drinks came and refilled very fast. Our table server was also helpful. When we couldn’t decide what to order from the menu, he introduced us the items from the menu and gave us a great idea to order the food.

Food/Prices :

The food on the menu is all in Canadian Style and fancy. The menu breakdown has a wide range of items with a small portion pork selection. The price of the food is a little bit expensive. The starters prices are all around $11. The main meals are around $27 – $30. Because we’ve been during the HAPPY HOURS (Available every day between 3pm & 6pm Monday to Friday; 4pm & 6pm weekends at all locations), all the starters were half prices. We didn’t order any food from Main Section. We had couple starters to share. The food came fast and fresh. The taste of the food was great.

In summary, it was a great experience having dinner at The Flying Pig Restaurant. I would like to come back to the restaurant again in the future. In the end, I highly recommend going there during the HAPPY HOURS. It was a great deal for the starters.

The Flying Pig has to be one of my favourite spots to grab a bite with friends. It's perfectly situated in the heart of Gastown and always has a constant flow of people. It has such an energetic vibe and social ambiance. Their food is very comforting and flavourful. I definitely recommend the Blackened Lois Lake steelhead trout salad! I order it most of the time. The presentation is always wonderful and so are the portions. I highly propose you give it a try!!

Last month when my friends came to visit me, we decided to try this most popular spot in downtown Vancouver. The place is nice looking, inviting, community tables, some high tops, good amount of bar seating and great window seats to people watch.

As for our main course, we got the Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib and the Blackened Steelhead Trout. Both were very good and we switched entrees again and again so we could get a little of each. For the appetizers, we ordered the Beet & Bresaola Salad and Classic Poutine. Both were nice with beer and wine too.

Overall, we had a wonderful meal, the service is great with the staff being friendly, knowledgeable about the food, quick on getting you drinks and bringing out your food and clearing up. We were enjoying in this restaurant and must visit it again.

Had brunch here bright and early- in fact we were the first ones in, so we got a prime table right by the window. Ambience is great, very open and clean with lots of wood and brick, creating for a very pleasant visual experience. (The only kinda weird thing is that the next couple to come into the big empty restaurant they placed at the table right beside us). The food was great, wonderful presentation, generous portions and amazing flavours. The Flying Pig delivered a classic brunch that I would highly recommend.

The Flying Pig is decently close to my office, so more often than not, I’ll be here for lunch at least once every couple months. I usually come here for their Happy Hour, but recently I’ve been coming more and more for their lunch (more specifically for their Steak Sandwich!). Crispy brussels sprouts – lemon, Parmesan and capers ($7)

Angie ordered a Chopped House Salad. It came in a big plate with free range chicken, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs, avocado, bacon and iceberg lettuce. She asked for a vinaigrette dressing instead of the ranch or blue cheese dressing on the menu. Angie also ordered a Mimosa to go with a her salad. Polly, Whitney and I shared two entrees and a side dish.

Went here after hearing everyone talk about it. Love the atmosphere and service was exceptional. Got our food quickly and the waitress was friendly. We tried the macaroni for an appie and neither of us really enjoyed it so we left most of it which sucked. Loved my halibut, however. She had gnocchi and it was incredibly cheesy and heavy, but still tasty. We gave the rest to a hungry guy on the street and he was stoked.

We may have just ordered too many heavy, buttery foods, but overall it was still pretty good. i think the food could be better 3/5 but service 4.5/5

Originally my friend and I were going to try Twisted Fork for brunch but we were quite turned off by the one hour wait so we headed towards Yaletown in search of another brunch option. We passed by The Flying Pig and surprisingly there was no line up! This was around 1pm. They have three locations now (Yaletown, Gastown, Mount Pleasant) so maybe their customer base is more dispersed now?

On a Saturday night we came just as Appy Hour was ending and managed to get 2 seats at the bar right away. The restaurant empties pretty quickly after 6:00 just in time for a quieter wave of regular diners! Our drink orders came promptly and our food order taken cheerfully by the serving staff. We shared the rocket and beetroot salad, it was delicious! My veal piccata was very good with maybe just a titch too much lemon for my taste. My dad's seafood tagliatelle had a lovely flavor as well. All in all an excellent meal with very good service! One of my faves in Yaletown.

The portions are big, the food tastes fine and the dishes are really cheap for being in yaletown. There are plenty of other yummier options to choose from downtown but not for this price point. A good go-to place when you're in the neighbourhood and just want a quick bite

This is the 4th or 5th time I have been to the flying pig and have never been disappointed. I've had the veal, the pork rack and the coho salmon and all dishes have been wonderful. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in food preparation done the right way and it totally pays off. We went on valentine's day and were very satisfied. Classy music not too loud or too cheesy, quick service and of course the food, dynamite. Tried desert for the first time and the banana bread pudding was heavenly. Would highly recommend picking up takeaway pulled pork poutine and banana bread pudding for some comfort food. Will be back again and again, thank you for caring about food!!!!

Went to the flying pig last night in Yaletown. I ordered the braised red wine beef short ribs. I've been drooling over the pictures of this on here for months. It came with a choice of bone marrow or vegetables and aged cheddar white mash potatoes, I of course went for the bone marrow because it's one of my favourite things. Everything was good, beef was tender, although I thought it tasted a little on the dry side. It wasn't as flavourful as I thought it would be. Bone marrow and aged white cheddar mash was delicious. Service was good.

Great food and atmosphere on NYE. The Mt. Lehman chicken was delicious and served in a large portion. The drinks from the cocktail menu were phenomenal, especially in comparison to the public houses we went to after dinner. Great job by the bartender.

Out of all it's locations around Vancouver, this one is my favorite. I find the ambience to be much more lively here, and the people that come in are friendlier. Drinks are great and the place is upscale, so expect to spend more than your average dime here.

Not to miss are the poutine and short ribs.

The Flying Pig was a great choice for brunch! It was K’s first time and he wasn’t at all upset about waking up early. :P The food was decent, the service was friendly, and the ambiance was charmin- especially being in the heart of Yaletown. It’s a comfortable spot for social gatherings with your family and friends, which is relaxed but still special. Even though the price range is on the higher end, I think it’s worth the splurge.

Very well done pub food. Paid a second visit the weekend after again for brunch.

Pulled pork 4 cheese baked rigatoni was simply amazing - the combination of the slightly-roasted cheese and that hint of the spicy tomato sauce give the taste buds a good ride.

Braised beef short rib jumbo macaroni was well immersed in its mushroom cream gravy sauce. Beef was tell braised and it felt tender.

Parmesan breaded chicken cutlet is as how you would expect it to be - but a crispy crust is guaranteed, while the chicken cutlet inside was moist and juicy to the right degree.

Sidenote: The size of the breakfast is sufficient, but I'd suggest going for the 'full' lunch if you're hungry. Have to note that the coffee and tea can extremely quickly - within a minute!

I can see why this place is the talk of the town. By the time we arrived, there were already loads of people lining up outside. We thought of going somewhere else, but the crowds also made us kind of curious to check out what this place was all about.

The place is great for comfort food, albeit a bit overpriced. We had the pulled pork and lobster prawn risotto. A total delight. Ambience is casual, friendly and loud. Highly recommended, given that you get there on time.

Service here was fast and pleasant, professional yet laid back making you feel very welcomed and relaxed despite it being in the prestigious dining strip of Yaletown. Maybe part of the atmosphere has to do with their other locations such as Gastown, that they can’t be too far off. Overall, Fatboy, our foodbabies and I were well beyond satisfied.

Like the place with caveats.
I've visited here a few times with mixed feelings on each occasion. So I felt compelled to write a few words about my latest experience with my wife this instance. We arrived at Appy hour, and were told that we had to sit on the one side of the restaurant space duly designated for Appy hour, even though we preferred to sit outside the designated area. We dutifully complied in order to receive the Appy specials. It seemed a little eccentric, almost anal , the seating that is, as the other side of the place, on the other side of the bar was totally empty. The Appy specials are only available if you sit in the designated area, hence the place becomes crowded and noisy on one side of the restaurant, the other side void of patrons.
My wife was hungry, she ordered the pork (chop), with pulled pork puitine. I ordered crab cakes. Crab cakes ok, outside a little overdone, too crusty, nothing special. My wife was a little disappointed with the pork, that we thought was supposed to be roasted, more like baked, It was ok but quite dry, and not really all that tasty. The accompanying spattering of roasted vegetables were way overdone, not good at all , the puitine average, and this dish was expensive. The beer was good! The service is ok, however the servers seemed a bit rushed. As I have been here before and had issues with the main courses, I recommend to stick with the appetizers and avoid the entrees to avoid the sticker shock of full meals and underwhelming quality ..

My go to place for a good meal and great service. For dinner, I usually get the Short Ribs with a side of Brussels Sprouts. Have also tried brunch and every meal has been tasty.

The thing that stands out is the service. The entire team goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and the fact the place is packed every night is a good indication they must be doing something right.

Overall, a comfortable place to have a well prepared meal that is locally sourced (most items) served by professionals that take pride in their work.

Stopped by for appy hour, 4-6pm, at the Yaletown location. Great deal and great food. The seared chili rubbed skirt steak was definitely a favourite, so tender and flavourful and it came with a mountain of crispy frites. They had $4 wine and beer as well, not bad. Would definitely come back again and again. The service was great as well.

Overall, great service and food. Loved the beet and goat cheese salad. My friend ordered the Caesar salad and loved it. I wasn't too fond of the root vegetables that were served with the halibut cheeks. The dish had an odd sweetness and was missing acid. Steelhead trout was a hit.

Bartenders extraordinaire!. So, it's Saturday night and I just stopped into the Flying Pig Yaletown to have an after work bevy. It's the first time I've been here without friends and I have to say the staff here are fantastic. The food looks delicious but I can't comment directly about it since I'm not eating. However, Scott and Alex behind the bar are working their butts off and are still attentive and intermittently conversational with my lonesome self. I love that. I noticed that the bartenders also wait tables here, as a former bartender I know what a difficult task it is to be the best of both worlds- a great bartender and server all at once. These two are clearly veterans as they seem to do what they do flawlessly. Ill definitely be coming back, and inviting my friends more often! Thanks guys!

Happy hour. Be careful which dishes you pick, varies from different sizes
steamed clams in beer and bacon broth $6 - big size. I would order this again. The only plate that I would like to order it again
steak and frites $5 - decent size. can't expect too much from a $5 steak. The steak was a little overcooked for me.
shrimp and cod fritters $5 - small size, 4 pieces only. Could not find any shrimps but potato fritters. Not recommended.
salmon cakes $5 - 4 pieces, pretty good value for $5. too salty for me after having the fritters.
Service - very bad, self serve than anything else. I needed to go up to the counter asking for my bill after being ignored for the first two times. The restaurant totally had enough staff but some adjustments might be needed. I saw some staff walking around and did not offer to help.

They didn't do anything badly. One of the great things about going to a tapas place with a group is that you get to eat a little of everything on the menu. At small-plate joints, everybody can order one or two things and pass the plates around so friends can pick up a piece. "Tell it to a Spaniard," I hear you saying, "they've been doing it for generations." I'm glad we Norteamericanos are catching the trend.

I linked up at Flying Pig with a group of food bloggers (except, ironically, none of them has a blog, including me. I just yabber about tucker on Urbanspoon.) They're dedicated foodies, though, and the opinions I heard told me they knew their stuff. Aside from a few quibbles -- "the mayonnaise/sri racha sauce on the chicken drumsticks isn't zingy enough" -- nobody had a bad thing to say about Flying Pig. I can nitpick with the best, but out of the 10 or so items I tried from Pig's midday menu, I can't find fault with a one. At $5 or $6 for each playfully done plate -- tell me a mountain of crispy, thread-like potato strings looming over a chili-sauced medallion of skirt steak isn't a playful take on French steak frites -- it's cheap fun. The waiters handled our party of a dozen or so people adeptly, even though we had some folks leaving, new ones arriving, foodies changing seats to talk to those at the end of the table... It probably helped that we flew into the Pig at a slow time of day.

I won't bore you with details of what I ate, because Flying Pig's offerings are always mutating. I agree with the consensus of the reviews here, though. There's nothing to dislike. Except those fried Brussels sprouts. I had to try them after reading the reviews here, so I ordered a bowl. Thank goodness I could pass most of them off to my table mates. The cooks try hard to make them appetizing, bless their hearts. But in the end, they still taste like Brussels sprouts. I'll develop a liking for those things when pigs fly.

Came here for happy hour and tried the truffle Mac n' cheese and short rib croquette. Great portion size for its price, especially the mac n' cheese which was good but incredibly rich. The croquette which I had been looking most forward to was a bit of a disappointment. Super salty made bearable only with a generous slather of the Sriracha parm basil dip.

Phenomenal Experiences. I have been to The Flying Pig twice and I cannot say enough good things about it. Both times my guest and I were floored by how good the food was. I had the halibut with gnocchi the first time, and was incredibly impressed that the gnocchi was cooked properly. It can be such a hit and miss food, but it was delicious. What really wowed me was the service. Both times my table was taken care of very well. Any used items were cleared away immediately, our drinks (including water) were never more than a third of the way finished, and our servers always made sure everything was to our liking.

Sunday brunch. Went at 12:30 for brunch, and was glad to have a reservation. there wasn't a line up, but there weren't a lot of empty tables either. sat down and the server immediately brought the bread basket - which contained a frosted cinnamon bun! i got the short rib pasta and it was delicious - lots of beef in a rich creamy sauce with some rapini (wouldn't have minded a bit more green in the dish - to help me rationalize the debauchery of the rest of the meal). perfect meal for a cold wet vancouver day. my friend got the 2 egg breakfast, and subbed sausage for the bacon (extra $1 - the sausages were huge, so that seemed pretty fair), and enjoyed it. definitely not the place to go if you're vegan or on a diet, but really tasty food for a decent price.

Definitely a neighbourhood favorite! Great food, great value for money & great ambiance :) Halibut cheeks were amazing & so was the spicy shrimp pappardelle (not on the menu tonight but I hope it will come back!) Also things that got rave reviews were the skirt steak, brussel sprouts, veal & lemon tart. The only complaint @ the table (albeit a minor one) cheesy bone marrow bread could've done with a bit more marrow & a bit less cheese & bread. All in all a great spot & we'll certainly be back!

GreatER Food In Yaletown. We visited the TFP early this year and i have to say in the hub of all types of restaurants in yaletown TFP delivers a fresh twist to your table. It's fancy yet not your traditional sense of divie food. It has that back-to-original intention from decor to dishes. We ordered Red wine braised beef & short ribs and wild seafood pappardelle. The beef and short ribs are perfectly cooked to medium and the seafood pappardelle has that subtle spicy falvor in it which meet my light-but-tasty demand. This place seems always packed. It's not a big space. I would prefer there is a bigger gap between each table so i won't accidently over hear gossip all around.

Typical Vancouver Posh Society Club. The Flying Pig has really good food, and some mighty fine beer! Staff is friendly, service is 7/10, and quality of food is real darn good!
The company it attracts is a lot of transient people from Yaletown. As a primary resident of Yaletown I can honestly say I don't like much of the people here. Most of them are posing a facade as if they have money and snub their noses at others. These are the people at the Flying Pig. But if you can manage to ignore them and reframe that most can't live alone due to costs and the majority will be forced to move within a year because they can't keep up with the perceived lifestyle, then I would recomend it haha It's interesting because I find a lot in Yaletown, food services staff to be hoity-toity, but that isn't the case here.
I found their menu to be original and creative, presentation beautiful and details right down to the menu were taken care of.

A Go-To Place. Because of Vancouver's diverse dining scene, I hardly ever go to the same restaurant twice. However, The Flying Pig is the exception -- it's an unpretentious atmosphere that serves tasty, affordable, and quality food. Their beer and wine list, while not super large, is also affordable and very good. No wonder there's always a lineup outside! Their brussel sprouts are one of my favourite things in the world, and their pulled pork poutine is luscious. Their special -- mussels in a corn and bacon broth also stands out in my mind for being flavourful, but not heavy, with juicy, perfectly cooked seafood. Dishes that shine a bit less are their mushroom gratin and cheesey bread; although a substantial portion, their crimini gratin lacked flavour, and their marrow cheesey bread was too cheesey and not marrow-y enough. Over all though, I'd feel assured ordering anything on the menu.

Worth the effort required to get in for lunch. In addition to convincing its diners that pigs may fly, this little restaurant also does a pretty good job of convincing you that you're in gastown instead of yaletown while you eat there. The unadorned dark wood floors and white walls create a cool and minimal atmosphere I really enjoyed, a nice departure from the typical dark and cavernous interiors popular in the area, but its good looks mean plenty of reflective surfaces for sound to bounce off of. Prepare yourself for a noisy dining experience.

It's worth the noise, however, because the food is great! I've had a fish special once and the halibut once; the fish was cooked perfectly and both times it was served over a bed of fluffy gnocchi accompanied by a delicious sauce. Portions are a bit small, but they're fair, and you probably won't leave hungry. This is one of the few restaurants in Yaletown where I really felt I'd eaten something special and delicious I couldn't replicate at home; not bad for a 16-dollar lunch expenditure!

Be warned that it's very difficult to get into for lunch, as it's quite small. The last time I attempted to reserve for lunch I was informed that they were all booked up but I might succeed in getting a table for 4 if I showed up at 11:30 am or 1:30 pm, so try to show up for an early or late sitting if your lunch plans can't wait a week or so.

Neighborhood Gem. The Flying Pig is in the same space as the former Amarcord restaurant in Yaletown. The name of the restaurant suggests a good story and I recommend you ask when you are there. ;)
The space is simple but cozy with a variety of tables for two, four or even group tables. The menu has good variety and almost every dish has a key character that is not always easy to find in other restaurants: flavour! I like many of the dishes on the menu but on Sunday their specials were a thick roasted pork chop with bacon/mushroom/wine sauce with veggies and mashed potatoes, plus a halibut with a sauce that included chorizo for just a hint of spice and flavor. Both were absolutely delicious! When you seriously consider licking the plate you know you enjoyed your meal! During busy times there can be a wait (no reservations - first come first served) and it can be a bit noisy but it's all worth it! When you are walking through Yaletown exploring the city and you start feeling the hunger, this is the place to go. Bon appetit!

Delicious. I love the Flying Pig restaurant. The service is superb as is the food. I had the lobster risotto and tomato and bocconcini salad with a glass of prosecco. One of the best restaurants I have been to since moving to Vancouver.

The server was attentive without being overly annoying. The food was tasty but nothing too special, although the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente! We shared the mussels for an appetizer but the shells were big while the meat was tiny!!

Service is wonderful, they didnt mind us sitting and chatting for quite a while. Great.

Nice restaurant, it has a nice heated patio. Good customer service and decent prices. I went for the happy hour, it was worthy. Salmon cakes and sprout Brussels were very tasty 👅 Four stars because the patio view can be better.

We we were on the wait list for a table of 8, they called and said there was a cancelation, and we were glad to take the spot. So many great starter dishes. Everyone enjoyed their meals, staff was efficient and really nice. Drinks were cold and kept coming ;). Overall, we highly recommend this place. Must try.

Nice restaurant in Yaletown. A little late on this review but we really enjoyed our dinner and drinks. It’s spacious, has great ambience and excellent service. Ordered the bone marrow and mushroom pasta and both were delicious! A bit too many nuts in the pasta but still so good! Dessert was excellent as well! Highly recommend for a nice dinner out in Yaletown!

Did Happy Hour before work and it was great. Service was good and the food was excellent. The Paella spices were perfect. We ordered some deals and off the main menu. Delicious your chef know their tastes and flavours.

I really enjoyed my lunch at this cozy little place in beautiful Yaletown, Vancouver today! They have a great selection on their menu and their lunch prices are reasonable. What really stood out for me was their warm, attentive and professional service. From the beginning to the end. The host made us feel very welcome and our server took very good care of us the whole time. Due to the winter wonderland feel and all the snow I felt I need to start things off with a nice cup of coffee. I loved the coffee. It was JJ Bean and piping hot and served in a sparkling cup.....exactly the way I like it. We had the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Chicken cutlets. I loved the pulled pork, juicy and well seasoned with a nice crisp fresh ceasar salad and a slice of gherkin with the meal which was a nice touch. I love gherkins! I also tried the Chicken cutlet which was beautifully cooked. Tender with the batter seasoned just on point and the mash was a perfect pairing. "I MEAN WHO DOESN'T LIKE GREAT MASH?!" Next time I'm going for the muscles! ;)
