Review Vij's Restaurant - Vancouver

Ryan Kondo
This was our first time ordering from this restaurant and we got pork tenderloins coconut chicken and lamb Popsicles for takeout. The coconut chicken was very good the chicken was very soft and tender and flavourful and the curry that the pork tenderloins were in was very delicious. my partner and I would say that this is the best Indian food we have ever eaten. Do you lamb Popsicles could have been a bit better but I think it is because we ordered pick up and it got a little cold before we ate the food. The potatoes under the lamb Popsicles were very tasty.

Vij's is an experience! [Location and Parking] it was a 7 minute walk from the Skytrain, which wasn't bad at all. It's on a busy bus route as well. Not sure if they have their own lot, but there's plenty of parking in the area, [Accessibility] there's a ramp to the front entrance, and there's a lower level with washrooms that is wheelchair friendly. Some steps to a second level. [Atmosphere] it was busy at 8pm on a Saturday. They play good Indian music at a comfortable level for conversation. The decor is classic, and the mood is set nicely with tea lights. [Service] Top notch service! I really appreciated how mindful and accommodating they were of our food allergy. Everyone working there was very kind and helpful, especially Becca, who served us. [Food] the pork spoon with apple-mint chutney and the lamb Popsicles were super delicious. Everything we ate played with every part of the taste buds. I highly recommend Vij's!

I thought this place would be good but I didn't expect it to be this good. I don't know if I'm being dramatic but I think this was probably in the top 3 of the best foods I've ever had. Also the service was great! Everyone was super professional and although the restaurant was nearly full, I felt like we were the only ones there based on how well our servers treated us. They also offered us a cup of hot chai as we sat down which was much needed coming in from the -10°C snowy weather outside! The portions here are fantastic and I cannot stress enough how good the food is. I don't even know which of the three dishes that we ordered was my favourite because they were all so good. Also the cocktail list was a great surprise! An extensive list of specialty cocktails that all sounded delicious and the few that we had were delicious. I wish we could have had one of everything on the menu. I can't wait to come back!!

The food was excellent. We were greeted warmly from the start, and received complimentary tea and snacks. The “lamb popsicles” were out of this world amazing! The tea was really aromatic and reminded me of my grandmothers tea. Will definitely go here again when I visit Vancouver again. Please go- even if Indian food isn’t your favourite!

From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed. Dinner for two rang in under $150 drinks included. Worth every Penny. They bring around chai and some little appetizers while you’re ordering. There is ample staff about to pour your water and clean your table between courses. Everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

UPDATE: Vij's posts a very professional reply to every negative review asking to contact them - presumably for optics. When I sent them an email they simply replied "The staff member has informed me on what happened." Not only are their staff rude, this email interaction indicates to me that they are also inconsiderate of patrons' time. After the email interaction initiated by Vij's, I've decreased my rating from 2 to a 1 only because I can't rate them 0. ORIGINAL REVIEW: The food was top class but my experience at this restaurant was greatly depreciated by the staff’s needlessly snobby and rude attitude. It started with the hostess ordering me to store my (dry) umbrella near the entrance. When I said I’d rather keep it, she warned me not to poke other patrons with it - what is this, a crèche? We were given the worst table in the restaurant and when we asked to change it, the staff insisted on bringing out appetizers first and telling us about them at length instead of addressing our request. Not to mention mispronouncing the dishes names despite working at an Indian restaurant. When I said I’d rather get the appetizers at our new table, the waitress reassured me the appetizers are complimentary? Talk about cognitive dissonance.

First time at this restaurant. Nice gesture by serving a complimentary appetizer. Based on the overall rating, i had high expectation. However i was not impressed by the ambiance nor by service. The food was nice, but expensive. Appetizer: eggplant, pork spoon and cauliflower Main course: Goat , Lamb and coconut chicken

The lure of the lamb popsicles brought me in and they did not disappoint. I hadn’t been back in 5 years and the lamb popsicles still tasted just as good as i remembered them. We also had goat curry and it had a nice kick to it. The service was excellent they started us off with a complimentary appetizer and chai which was a nice touch, or as they call it Chai Tea which means tea tea. And we finished it off with some warm golab jammun which were excellent. If there is one dish you are going to order. Order the lamb popsicles and add a couple more to your order. You will not regret it.

Vij's has been on my food bucket list for some time now, my girlfriend and I finally had a chance to experience it for her birthday. The service and food was outstanding. We lined up a half hour before service began (with several others already waiting ahead of us), and were greeted outside with treats from the kitchen while we waited, as well as amuse bouche while we were seated, reviewing the menu. The food was beyond expectation, with generous portions. My girlfriend is celiac, and the staff was extremely accommodating to her sensitivity, They were also kind enough to suggest wine pairings with her main. All in all we had very high expectations for the night, all of which were blown away. I was secretly hoping Vikram would be there so i could get a book signed, but no such luck! Oh well, there will defiantly be a next time. Highly recommend.

Easily one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. My partner and I celebrated our second anniversary there tonight after months of dying to try it out. The staff were so helpful for an indecisive couple and we weren’t disappointed in anything besides our stomachs’ capacities. Great drinks, great service, great food, great atmosphere.

I really like their service, great selections of drinks and it has nice ambiance. However, food is accommodating to westernized taste, I wouldn’t say it’s an authentic Indian cuisine because beef, duck breast, trout etc aren’t a typical Indian dishes. It’s good for those who doesn’t like spicy food and want to try Indian curries for the first time.

Visiting from Toronto, We had great service & the food was fabulous, just the right heat 😋 I recommend the lamb it was a four star 💫 🥂

Me and my wife stumbled upon Vij's as we were googling an indian place to celebrate our anniversary dinner. I honeslty cannot express the warm welcome that we had when we first entered. We had a lovely meal from the starting of our apps till our desert. We loved every bite and at every point were well taken care of if anything was needed. The only thing we missed was meeting Mr. Vij. When in Vancouver next they most certainly can expect us again , wishing we had a place as such in Toronto. Thank you for making our evening so special and a heartfelt thank you to Jeffery making sure we were well taken care of. Thankyou Nik and Mini

An amazing Indian place which has gained respect as any other other international cuisine rather than only a desi dhaba. Kudos to chef Vij for presenting indian cuisine as an art form.

I had food couple of days back, I can still taste the flavor. The rabbit is a must have.. of course along with the lamb popsicles.

I thought the food was perfection. Great selection of drinks, patio rooftop is super nice, and wait staff couldn't have been better. Perfect experience all round. Class!

Amazing food, amazing staff, and amazing beer. The owner visited often and was warm and friendly.

Amazing food; perfectly seasoned and spiced. Complex and fragrant cocktails. Attentive staff that ALL take care of you. Vij’s has it goin on! Thank you so much.
Celia Lee
Amazing food, great atmosphere, professional and attentive staff. Highlight was that Vikram Vij himself was walking around and talking to all the patrons!

Have been going to the restaurant since it existed on Broadway. Love the new location and the food and service still above all the rest. My go-to place for a great evening.

Love the roof top patio! Dinner was exceptional as always. Great service.

Vij’s is a restaurant by Vikram Vij, an immigrant entrepreneur from India. You may have seen his pre-packaged Indian food in Wholefood or other grocery stores. Trust me, nothing beats the freshly made experience at his store. Sometimes, Vikram even comes out of the kitchen to shake hands with his customers. Vij’s is located on Cambie Street, near 16th Avenue, Vancouver

The most delicious Indian food experience from start to finish.

We came to try out the gorgeous offerings one weekday night. We were greeted & offered a seat at the bar whilst waiting for a table. Fabulous idea instead of awkwardly standing at the entrance waiting for a table. Samples were offered by staff as we ordered drinks.
The mango lassi was creamy & the mango flavour was rich.

Our wait was 30 mins but waiting comfortably at the bar area made it go by so quickly.

The dining room is darkened like the bar but the lights on the ceiling reminds you of the night sky. The dining room is elevated so there are views of Cambie.

Menu is extensive & full of choices.
The pork spoon was rich with spice & the pork melts in your mouth.
The special ricotta samosas were creamy & spicy with a crispy casing.
The rainbow trout was served with rice pilaf & surrounded by a rich curry sauce.
The mutton kabobs were charred to perfection with the meat still juicy. Beautifully paired with garlic naan & a salty cucumber salad.

My recommendation- get the mains as a small dish so you can try as many delicious dishes as possible & definitely try the rainbow trout dish.

Having seen this place on travel channel and having grown up on Indian food ourselves we were pretty excited to have our minds blown away with some fusion Indian food.

To start with, the service was great they give complimentary pakoras and papdi chaat and chai. The pakoda was fried fresh which was nice. Vij personally comes to your table and talks to you which is nice.

We got rabbit for starters and lamb in wine sauce and duck as mains.

First the rabbit starter/appetizer was basically just a mains dish, a dish with masala eaten with Naan doesn't fall in the category of appetizer for me but anyways other than the fact that they used rabbit instead of chicken( which tastes similar) it tasted just like some chicken that we would cook at home, nothing spectacular or amazing about it.

For main the dishes came with rice and naan which was great. I specially liked the lamb in wine , the curry had a nice combination of curd and spinach which tasted great and the lamb was cooked perfectly but I couldn't taste any wine. The Duck was cooked in a very subtle south Indian type curry with addition of mango. I personally didn't like the flavor of the duck curry as much but my husband liked it. Duck again was cooked perfectly.

The food was good but was it the best Indian food I have ever had in North America( not even counting India because you can't compare)? My answer would be a big NO. Was the food really innovative? Again NO. Even by using ingredients like duck, rabbit , mango, wine, there was not much innovation to feel impressed. It tasted just like any other mid ranged sit down Indian restaurant in North America.

I would say the price range just felt too over the top for the food and even the ambiance (outdated bollywood songs from 90's and early 2000's, smell of Incense in the air, dark red/brown/yellow carpets and walls)didn't feel any different than the stereotypical Indian restaurant that we have been to in North America.

If you are a non Indian maybe the food might taste great to you but as an Indian it was just average.

Overall I just felt that it's both over hyped and over priced.

The most famous Chef in all of Vancouver has got to be Vikram Vij. Does anyone even consider any other Indian food in this city? No. The rest of Canada will recognize him as an investor on the TV show Dragons' Den. But here at home he is known for his four restaurants, a food truck, a frozen food line in grocery stores, and four books.

Out of all of this, Vij's quintessential dining experience can be found at his flagship restaurant; Vij's Restaurant, which he opened in 1994. It has become one of the most well-known and recognized Indian restaurants not just in Vancouver, but across Canada. This place is decorated with accolades and here are a few that caught my eye: Vij's appeared on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, The Georgia Straight named them #1 Best Indian 2017 & #1 Best Indian 2018, they were #29 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2015, #27 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2016, #26 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2017, and #50 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants 2018, and Westender magazine chose them as #1 Best Indian 2017.

When you're in Vancouver (and in Mount Pleasant), Vij's is a must-do. They don't take reservations so it's never a bad idea to arrive somewhat early to beat the rush. We visited on a Tuesday evening and were struck by the aroma of incense as we entered the door. This is exactly what I want my Indian dining experiences to be like! We proceeded to the lounge area to wait for a table and I gazed around at the ornate decor and deep jewel tones. The gorgeous tile work immediately caught my eye. Another thing that couldn't be ignored was the fact that Vikram Vij himself was standing right there, right in the middle of the lounge. I regret not going up to him and saying hello!

After a short wait the attentive staff let us know that there was a table available for our party up on the rooftop patio. This sounded like the ideal way to spend a summer evening! We ascended the stairs and found ourselves on a terrace oasis, complete with a canopy, it's own bar, and tons of foliage. This patio was stunning. We felt miles away from the busy traffic on the street below.

The servers at Vij's are excellent. There wasn't a single moment when I didn't feel completely taken care of. The vibe is unpretentious yet refined, and very friendly.

I started by digging into the list of Vij's Cocktails. Looking for something playful and different, I found a drink called a Hisako under the "Neat" section of the menu. Unfortunately, I was informed that they no longer had this one available. Our server recommended that I try the Cambie Sour (Buffalo Trace Bourbon, guava, lemon & claret - $14.00) instead, found under the section of the menu labeled "Fun." I did want to have fun. This drink was everything that I wanted it to be. Sweet, tart, refreshing, and fun. It didn't taste too boozy and it worked perfectly well as a summertime patio type of cocktail. It would be easy to drink far too many of these!

The handwritten menu is lengthy and overwhelming, especially as first-timers. I've eaten a fair amount of Indian cuisine in my day (a shameful number of buffets) and I have a pretty good idea of what I like, but in a place like Vij's I didn't want to miss out on anything extra spectacular! Once again, our great server came to the rescue and helped to fill us in on all of the most popular dishes. At last we felt as though we had a plan! All of the dishes can be made into a "small plates" size, which is handy when it comes to sharing and trying more things. After a short wait our dinner began to arrive.

First was the Jackfruit (In black cardamom and cumin curry - $14.00) from the Starters section, which was served to us complimentary because someone in my group knew one of the staff members! This preparation of jackfruit was a welcomed change from the "pulled pork" that I always tend to see. The tender jackfruit was very much akin to artichoke and I enjoyed the deep curry that it was bathed in. We even all ate a bit of the bird's eye chili that was included in the bowl.

The accompanying naan bread was my first true sign of greatness. This very well may have been the best naan that I have ever eaten in my life. Crisp yet chewy, not overdone, and I could taste the quality of the flour used (my guess is '00' flour?). Absolutely perfect. (Does Vij import real Indian grandmas to make it??)

Our next Starter to arrive were our Vij's 'Pork Spoons' (With apple-mint chutney - $5.50 each). These were served amuse-bouche style and were delicious little bites of flavour. The pork was juicy and savoury, very similar to pulled pork, and it played well with the fresh chutney.

Next we moved on to our Mains section of the meal. The Wine Marinated 'Lamb Popsicles' (In fenugreek curry - $32.00) came highly recommended and are regarded as the restaurant's signature dish. This really was quite a lovely preparation of lamb, the tender meat as the star of the plate. Perfectly seasoned, the only thing that I wished for was more of it. The small morsels of lamb disappeared so quickly! The fenugreek curry was one of the best of the night, ultra creamy and flavourful.

We were intrigued by the Marinated Duck Breast (In ground fennel seed curry - $18.00) and so we ordered this as a small plate. I was a little bit disappointed with this one. I think that the main problem is that the plate was so small that once it was split four ways I barely felt like I tasted any of it. The duck itself was very nice and cooked to a desirable texture and doneness. I liked the stewy fresh vegetables on top. I just wish that I had experienced more.

We wanted to pick a dish from the Vegetable Mains section and everyone loves cheese so... Paneer, Ginger, Cilantro + Garlic Cakes (In creamy tomato curry - $26.00). I liked this however I found the consistency of the cakes a bit crumbly. The flavours were nice. The dense cheese was balanced well by the brighter ingredients.

Another dish that we decided to order as a small plate was the Braised Beef Shortribs (In fennel + mustard seed curry - $18.00). Our server recommended this one as a great compliment to the lamb popsicles. Similar to the duck situation, I didn't feel that there was nearly enough to go around. However, this beef was truly glorious. Ultra fall-apart tender, this beef melted in my mouth. It almost had a smoky flavour to it, which was delicious.

And of course everything was served with naan and rice. The rice was fairly standard fair but nice. The naan, again, was incredible.

It should go without saying that I enjoyed this meal a lot. The sheer number of curries on the menu alone is impressive. There's almost too much to try! I also liked the sound of the rabbit with onion-jalapeno-ginger sautéed in raw sugar, samosas filled with lamb + beef, and the Punjabi style goat curry with spiced vegetables. I also noticed pakoras in the Bar Snacks section of the menu. There's just too much to choose from! I wish that a multi-course set menu would be offered. That way, you would get a great variety and a full meal served in the correct quantities.

After the feast was complete we were treated to complimentary glasses of Moscato, a sweet white wine. Delicious and a perfect after dinner palate cleanser! We didn't want to miss out on dessert and were given a verbal menu of three items to choose from. My husband and I shared the Almond Kheer ($8.00). This was also available in coconut flavour as opposed to almond. Served cold, Kheer is an Indian rice pudding and this version was light and creamy. It was taken to the next level with the addition of a sheet of silver leaf adorning the top.

I absolutely could not miss out on trying their chai. It is my favourite beverage, after all! For some reason I was not charged for this. This chai was absolutely perfect and quite possibly the best chai that I've ever tasted. All other chais have been lying to me. I feel as if I've been hunting to find this for years! Perfectly brewed with a delicate balance of spices and sweetened with honey. It wasn't too sweet and it was the chai of my dreams. Can I get more of this to go??

The quality of the food at Vij's is evident. There is no butter chicken in sight, instead this is Indian food elevated to a much more refined level. I feel like I could use more time to really get into each of the plates and to bathe in the curries. While not every dish was a complete hit and the meal felt a bit confused to me, the successful elements were very strong. In the future I think that I may opt to order the Staff Meal, which sounds a lot more complete.

I look forward to continuing my Vij's journey and trying the rest of his restaurants!

Indian cuisine with a twist? Why not. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect looking at the menu and the limited options. But was pleasantly surprised that the food was absolutely yummy and the quantity didn’t disappoint amongst the 4 of us, who are heavy eaters.
AC
Vijs don’t take reservations. We went there on a week night and it was not busy. Since it was a sunny and warm evening, we picked the patio to enjoy our dinner. Our server was attentive. The staff ,who delivered the food , always go thru wha the ingredients on the plate. Overall was a nice experience.

The lamb popsicles were really good :) the Naan bread was super chewy and fluffy, highly recommend it :) I gave it a 4/5 stars because of the price $$$
Foodisgood421
Rating based on food taste, quantity, price and representation of Indian flavors and uniqueness. The taste would be a 3.5. Quantity 3. Price is over priced. Way better Indian food elsewhere. I would consider this a western style Indian restaurant.. Lamb popsicles are tasty but the accompanying parts of the dish were lack luster. The paneer was bad and flavoring was average. Never seem paneer as a slab before. Although the idea was unique, poor execution. I had come to vij's about 10 years ago at a different location and at the time I had not much experience with Indian food so at that time I would have rated it higher. After a lot of Indian food experiences you are better to pass on this and find somewhere authentic. One good thing is the naan is good with nice herbs

Great rooftop patio, great food and service. Was fortunate to get a table on a beautiful evening at this busy Resturant. They don't take reservations so it can be a bit of wait. But it's worth it!

Excellent food! I'm not usually a fan of lamb but the lamb popsicles are ridiculously good. They have servers with trays of appetizers/munchies available wellie you wait. Such a great idea. You need to get there early to avoid long line ups.

Have been here couple times while away from the city years ago. Vjis is a must return place every time when I got back to Vancouver. However, they don't offer complimentary naan , rice and chai tea anymore which is quite disappointed...

Been wanting to try this upbeat, stylish fusion Indian restaurant for a while. Finally we are here, they have a slightly different menu for the patio/rooftop. But the quality is good. Loved their famous lamb popsicles! Will definitely be back.

A restaurant that doesn't let you call to ask questions builds a sour taste before you walk in the door. A group of 4 on a not busy day (they had plenty empty tables), the first two of us arrived a few minutes before the second two and we were asked to wait by the door instead of being seated like at most places.

The service staff were very curt, and there was always a sense that they have very strict guidelines on who does what and how they do it, including taking away unused cutlery between meals only to replace it with an identical set. Business first, all the way. We had a very pushy waitress, constantly asking about cocktails.

It also appears the point of sale system they use for orders (all iPhones) is complete junk, as the otherwise speedy service was heavily halted by waiting for each item to be entered. Ordered an item via another waiter who didn't have his phone out and it got forgotten.

But, the food and menu are both excellent. Fusion food done right, taking Indian flavours and serving in a very European way. Not very spicy if you demand that in good Indian food.

Minus 0.5 for shitty service and atmosphere (we spent $70/person), and minus 0.5 for the slightly above market pricing. Everything else would get a full five stars.

Good place to try out Indian Cuisine. Very friendly staff, pleasant ambience, innovative food options.
They serve complimentary "chai and starters". Food is not typical Indian food however it is a modern take on traditional Indian cuisine which makes it a unique experience.
Overall, a must visit I would say!

Been to Vijs 5 times or so. Food is consistently superb. Lamb popsicles are to die for, I cannot stop ordering them. Wait times are better than at previous location due to larger space on Cambie. Staff always take great care of us. A wonderful, decadent splurge.

I was invited by Tourism Vancouver to embark on a tour that will take us to several DineOut Vancouver participating restaurants. Our group actually got this location on the first guess as I guess the direction we were heading and the fact that Vij’s has never participated in all of Dine Out Vancouver’s 15 years of doing this.

Not a big fan of Indian food!! However this place has made a great impression!! Food was so delicious and the ambience was great !! The chai tea!! Oh yummm
Everything was absolutely top notch!

Unique take on Indian food, although it isn't Authentic by any means I quite enjoyed the food and ambiance here. They have nice flavors, everything is not as vibrant or spiced up as I would like but it was delicious. The lamb popsicles are the best part of the meal - great sauce with it, although it was a bit overdone, the pakoras are delicious with lots of stuff inside, the gulab jamun was well presented and delicious as always. I heard that they employ only women in the kitchen and that was a nice to hear as most Indian restaurants only or mostly have men working in the back.

It’s no secret that Chef Vikram Vij is a Canadian culinary icon. He’s a restaurateur, celebrity chef, and cookbook author and has delighted high-profile individuals like the Royals with his food. I had never been to their location on South Granville but have sampled a few of Vij’s dishes before at a Dine Out Vancouver event a few years ago. This past summer, a few friends and I made it a Girl’s Night Out at Vij’s new location on Cambie. And so one evening around 5 pm, we stood in line for about half and hour before the restaurant opened for our first dine-in experience at Vij’s.

A relaxed, welcoming space with a ceiling made of thousands of terracotta chai cups from India when you walk in! 😍 lots of vegan and vegetarian options here!

I’m on a roll this week! Busting out blogs now since I was MIA for so long😦 There will be tons of reading for you all! If you don’t like to read, you can always check out our Youtube channel:. Vij’s is a well known modern Indian cuisine restaurant and they opened up their new location on Cambie. They do not take reservations so from time to time, you may notice they have a long lineup at their front entrance. When you first enter in, they have a waiting area for you to sit in. They serve drinks and offer complimentary appetizers. The appetizers are served from time to time to each table. This is the only restaurant that I know of, that serves complimentary appies while you wait for your table. Also, they are good too!

We got to vijs at 4:50 and waited in a huge line to open for 5.. Within minutes of opening we were in, given chai tea, a selection of appetizers and ordered our drinks. It was the most amazing service I have ever experienced! Everyone was so in sync it was great just to watch that. Food was awesome as well and different from the typical Indian food at other restaurants. For sure worth the money. You have to go at least once
Simon
So I finally made it to Vij's. Long ago I had wanted to go when they were still at Granville, but because of an estimated 2-hour wait I ended up at next door Rangoli instead. Underwhelmed by Rangoli, Vij's fell off my radar for years until, recently, my friend started talking up the sablefish there.
Cam
Decided to come to dinner tonight on a whim. It's Tuesday, wife and I walked in at 6:15pm and there was no wait! Sweet!

Food was amazing as always. Although not traditional Indian food, it's flavourful and well presented. We tried the beef short ribs and duck dinner feature. Beef was very tender and the red wine curry was yummy, perfect for naan dipping :) Duck was also good, but would've preferred medium rare.

Service is really the star of this restaurant. Vikram was in house tonight welcoming and chatting up all his guests. And servers kept refilling our water glasses and offering more rice & naan.

My wife and I had indian food in many places in Vancouver just finished our last one in downtown..and honestly after being to and so many places we have not forgotten the flavours of vijs..we were at Vijs on my birthday and please to see that Indian food served differently not just the same old curry old style. The service is amazing just did not like the wait time, for delicious food to come.....
Yvee Hopkins
Plan on waiting up to an hour during busy times, but definitely worth the wait. This is Vij's new restaurant location, which is quite upscale. Lovely new decor and the same fabulous food. Blown away by flavour and polite service.

The jackfruit appetizer and pork belly spoon are an amazing way to start your meal. On top of this, we had the feature appetizer clams and feature chicken entree. Both were packed with flavour and spiced perfectly. Dessert, a type of donut, is really delicious and sweet enough to share between two people.

Only flaw is the long wait, but you can sit and wait with a glass of wine and snacks that get passed around the room.

Everything But Weddings
I went here with my family for my birthday dinner. It's my second time at Vij's, first at this location. We knew there would be a lineup so we arrived at 5:30, expecting to be seated at 6 or so but miraculously, despite the long lineup, our table of 4 managed to be seated right when it opened at 5:30. Immediately we were treated to complimentary passed hors d'oeuvres by the staff and chai tea. The service here is second to none. Every server who helped us was extremely polite, pleasant and gave wonderful suggestions. Everything was so delicious and flavourful, let me just list out what we ordered to give you an idea: Local pork belly with apple mint chutney (per spoon), Grilled venison on tamarind-date purée with grilled vegetables, Wine marinated lamb popsicles in fenugreek cream curry on turmeric and spinach potatoes, Pork tenderloin in tangy cayenne and ginger curry, and the feature filet mignon. We capped off this amazing meal with a selection of desserts. Fresh naan and rice was served with the meal so there was no excuse not to sop up the remaining sauces. We will not hesitate to come back here. I knew what I was in for when I chose this restaurant and I was not disappointed. 2 days later, we are still thinking about the venison and the lamb popsicles... ok all of them :P Thank you for a wonderful meal.

This place gets busy very quickly. I'm not a vegetarian and tried all his veggie items and loved them all. It's a iconic place here in vancouver. Reso in advance. Service has always been consistent. I just recently saw and ordered from there food truck last week and it's just as lovely.
Aloe
Loved the bolly water (gin infused with chamomile, green cardamom, fennel) very much. Ordered vegetarian koftas ($26) served with green beans. Enjoyed the dish although it was not outstanding. Appreciated the tasty hors d'oeuvres that were served soon after we sat down and while we were awaiting our foods. Certainly not inexpensive, so i don't think i will go back unless for special occasion. It is not a big restaurant and as we arrived yesterday some 15 minutes before the start of dinner services, there were already more than a dozen of people in queue.
