Review Forage - Vancouver

Vicky C
The service is good! We were promptly seated and the drinks came quickly. The food was a little underwhelming for the price, though. We got the bison platter, which was filled with all kinds of goodies. The brisket was flavourful and our favourite out of all the dishes. The carpaccio was rather bland, as were the mushrooms. The bread that came with the platter was dense and dry. The sable fish was soft, though, and perfectly cooked. The pan bread was unique; something we hadn't tried before anywhere else. I would say it's definitely not bread like, if you were expecting that, but it was still good in its own way. The chowder was delicious but rather small, and had very little shrimp/crab in the toast. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the food. I feel the reviews here raised my expectations a little too high. I'm hoping the brunch will be better!

Wow, what a feast at Forage our friend treated us to earlier this week when visiting Vancouver! The Dine Out menu is such a steal for a delicious prix fixe meal. You can opt for wine pairings, and bar manager & sommelier Peter will not disappoint with the amazing selection of British Columbia wines available in the restaurant. Not many are pictured here, because I focused on the food for photography, but the combination created such an excellent evening of celebration of great local food, beverage, and friendships. That duck pastrami! The duck, prawn, and crab chowder! The sticky toffee pudding!

I went for dinner and in my experience is better option coming here for brunch. In general pretty good food with local ingredients, great service, but a little bit pricey. Got the local grains, the albacore tuna, and the duck. Everything slightly smaller that you’d expect for the price, but taste was good

Amazing brunch here with friendly and accommodating staff - must try the salted duck yolk french toast! It was super rich and delicious, you may want to share with a friend or two. Also tried the egg heirloom tomato fondue with lentils and cheese curds and it was very filling and hearty. I do wish they put the bread on the side though as it got soggy pretty quickly.

Forage is a great vibe! From the ambience to the food and the professionalism of the staff was what you expect from an upscale restaurant. Matt was an excellent server and Peter's knowledge of local wines was spectacular. Definitely recommend this place for any type of occasion!

The french waiter was friendly and answered our questions kindly. His recommendations were on point! Food here never disappoints. Quality over quantity kind of place, so I guess it's up to you what you value spending your money on. The panna cotta with mushrooms was amazing though, easily one of the best dishes I've ever eaten anywhere.

Great place for brunch. Awesome food and great service. We had the salmon benny, mushroom benny, classic two egg breakfast, baked eggs, and salted duck york french toast. All these turned out really great and we absolutely loved the salted duck yoke french toast. Probably the best item we had. The french toast was the perfect mix of salt and sweet. The inside gives a vibe of being outside too. Just the right level of brightness. Even tho it was gloomy and rainy outside, it almost felt like a sunny day. Kinda cool.

absolutely amazing food and service - the price may seem a little high but the quality of the food is 100% worth it the beet salad as an appetizer was a great way to start an awesome meal and the bison steak is an absolute must try !! the duck breast was also just as incredible and definitely one of my most memorable dishes

Very disappointed in this place! There was literally 4 oz of salmon on the plate. It came with 4 tiny 1/2 potato nuggets and 4 tiny radishes. Not only was it not good value for $32 a plate, but the food was cold. The server took it back. New plates were sent out....and they forgot to put the sauce on it. So they brought out some sauce on the side....and it was cold, too. The server said they would comp a dessert. Tried the puff pastry with elderberry cream. The pastry tasted old and dried out. I would not go back. Nor would I recommend this place.

I was very disappointed with Forage. I guess it's true that You can't judge a book by it's cover. Every time I walk by Forage, it's busy. I decided to try it out for My early Birthday dinner. We weren't served bread, even though the table behind Me was served bread and the same server as Ours even asked the table if They wanted more bread. I guess Forage must have ran out of bread, because ALL the tables must have asked multiple servings of bread due to the lack of food served. The chowder I had must have been the smallest portion I have ever eaten and it was lukewarm. The salmon was more appetizer sized then a dinner serving. Our server never checked in with Us during Our dinner, only after We've eaten to ask if We wanted dessert, no thanks. The dinner wasn't enjoyable, but Luckily I had My Marietta and Mom with Me. The name Forage is right, You'll have to forage for food on Your Own if You want to be full😇

We tried scallop Risotto (not in regular menu), fresh oyster, seafood chowder, smoked duck breast and dark chocolate torte as dessert. I personally like scallop risotto and smoked duck breast because the risotto is al dente with strong favor of lobster (I guess). scallop is crispy but moist inside. The smoked duck is good as well, but I would suggest to have stronger sour favor to balance. The duck is overcook a bit. Personally I don't like liver mousse but my wife likes it, so never mind. Pretty surprised that the dark chocolate torte is good. Earl grey with dark chocolate is pretty matched, however, I would prefer stronger earl grey much at the cream, and I didn't see candied Meyer lemon in the dish, just have a bit lemon mousse to balance the sweet of the torte. Anyways, the overall dinner was excellent, the taste is above my expectation.

If your into sharing your meal, this place is for you! Excellent service from our guide/ server - Jackson. Great explanation of the menu and everything came on time and plating was awesome. Foodie delight! A must stop for any tourist or local.

An amazing culinary experience! I am severely allergic to gluten (epi-pen severe) and I felt perfectly safe and well cared for. Often restaurants provide gluten free options that are modified to the point of boring and tasteless but not so at forage. Every gluten free option was beautiful, creative and delicious.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver, with an amazing dinner menu and exceptional brunch. Everyone who works here genuinely seems happy to be there, which says a lot about the establishment. Whenever I sit at the bar, JD is incredibly efficient while maintaining a big smile! I have not taken note of the other server/bartenders names, but always friendly, kind, competent and attentive. A bonus is that they take brunch reservations, which is rare for Vancouver (brunch capital of the world it seems). Their scones are worthy of the reservation alone. Amazing seafood chowder, high quality local meats, delicious eggs bennies, fantastic pancakes. It's hard for me to stay away for Sunday brunch! Thank you, Forage! <3

SErvice and food were outstanding. Carpaccio was amazing, charcuterie plate was one of the best in the city, kale salad delish. I’ll be back.

Great $30 Dine Out menu. We enjoyed every bit of it much more than a $40 menu we had at another top notch restaurant. Understandably it was a busy Fri nite, but my only suggestion is to space out the 3 course better. Our appy arrived almost immediately after ordering, then it was a good 30-40min wait for the mains. By the time dessert is served, there was only 15min left in our allotted 90min time slot. And we were given the bill before we finished. So it made dinner felt rushed.

Had a horrible experience at Forage for Dine Out Vancouver on January 30th. Arrived on time for our 6:30 p.m. reservation and checked in with the hostess. 5 minutes later she then asked us if we'd checked in. At 6:40 p.m. she escorted us to our table and informed us that it was a limited seating and we had until 8pm when a new table would be arriving. Our waitress arrived shortly thereafter and immediately informed us that we only had the table till 8pm. Feeling rushed yet? We were. Then as my husband was trying to decide on a pre-dinner cocktail the waitress came by twice to ask for our orders. We get it - you just want us to eat, pay and get out. My husband ended up ordering a beer and then we ordered right away - just to make her stop. Meals came super quick - too quick in fact. Our neighbours were maybe half way through their appetizers when their mains arrived. I will say that the appetizer chowder was great, but it was the only dish that was great. Our mains were pork belly and unfortunately improperly cooked. Instead of melting in your mouth, there was an excess of fat that should have been rendered down. We both had to cut off fat to manage to eat it. At the end we just wanted to leave. We were in and out in 60 minutes. We had been looking forward to trying the food at Forage for some time, and finally found the time to go - but based on this experience we will never be back. All in all a very disappointing experience.

We took three second course, two dessert and two local beers. Everything was really good. We really appreciated also the concept of the restaurant.

The food was excellent and the service was great! The only reason why I just put 3 stars instead of 4.5 is because we were seated too close to another table. The server knows the customer on this table and they were chatting and talking personal stuff too loudly with the customer. It sort of ruin the experience because we could hear everything. It's literally like dining with them on the same table. Tables were so close together. Otherwise our own server was great and food was fantastic.

The food and service were both amazing. It was a delightful meal. The foraged mushrooms were umami-mazing and the Bison tongue was finger licking good!

We booked this place at the last minute to have lunch before catching our flight. It was so good. Everything was delicious. It was very busy so make sure you reserve. It was actually brunch when we went. We both enjoyed different egg dishes (turkey sausage hash and bison hash). The homemade jams are excellent and we bought a bottle to bring home.

From excellent food to attentive service, one of the best meals I have had in the city.
