Review The Mongrillian Restaurant - Vancouver Island

Sharp Life
Great food. Great portions and good meat portion. Great vegetable portion. Not a fan of mushrooms so wish it was a bit easier to just swap it for another veggie which it usually happens but sometimes more or less is added. But overall it’s great and price is reasonable compared to others with these new COVID prices.

War Wonton is amazing, spring rolls are so delicious. One of our favourites when we are on the Island.

Really lovely owners! The food was decent. We grabbed some tofu salad rolls and number 2 combo for takeout. Really great place to eat if you have to watch your sodium and sugar levels. Very clean, simple ingredients. Would've loved more spice, but otherwise we're happy!

It was my first time trying this place today. I got The Ultimate Mongrillian Burger & Fries. It was delicious! Great portions 👍 thank you!

I honestly love the fresh food here. The owners are so friendly and kind, one of my favorite places to eat!

Absolutely loved it. The price was fair and the taste was great. You have the opportunity to build your own stir-fry, from protein to veg to sauce, and then pay for the total by weight. The homemade sauces are killer ! Friendly and fast service... we'll be back!

Do the build a bowl and let them do your sauces. Be aware the bowls come on chow mein noodles or rice so only add noodles if you want. The food is delicious. We also tried the won ton soup which has awesome dumplings in it with a nice subtle flavoring.

Really enjoy it here. The food seems to be very "clean", without additives and unhealthy ingredients.

We each ordered one of the Chinese food combinations and thoroughly enjoyed! The chop suey was top notch. It was also nice that the food wasn’t over-salted which happens so often with Chinese food. Best we’ve had in Duncan!!

Well a very friendly gal that ran the floor was helpful and cheerful. I opted for a special at $13.95 p/tax and also bought the won ton soup I have heard it was excellent. The soup didn't disappoint but the lunch was dry and bland. I asked if it needed anything before I left (it was take out) and was told it was complete and ready to eat/serve. I was very disappointed in the meal and keep thinking of all the other things I could have done with 15 bucks. Way overpriced for what is offered.

I came to The Mongrillian for the first time today with my husband for lunch. it as empty when we arrived and the older couple that own it are very sweet and friendly.
we ordered a cider and a beer which were lovely and cold. We both opted for the actually grill, where you fill a bowl with whatever you like, they grill it and its weighed and you are charged per kg. I stacked mine heaping because i was super hungry and thought I could save it for dinner later as leftovers.
My husband didn't have as much as i did. Mine was $17 and his was $10.
They came with rice and also a small soup to start which was really tasty.

The selection was very good, they had lots of meat and seafood and plenty of veggies to choose from and a lot of sauces. they grilled it uno fairly quickly and even gave me a suggestion for a sauce based on my tasted.
I ended up eating almost the whole thing, it was really delicious. My husband finished his off too.

Really nice meal, we will definitely be back!!

My girlfriend and I drive past this all the time and thought we'd give it a shot.

We grabbed two normal sized bowls and put some vegetables in them for the "make-your-own stir fry" option.

Guess what?
Surprise! It ended up being $45 for two vegetable stir fry's.

And no...the bowls weren't oversized or generously filled -- My girlfriend only weighs 102 freakin' pounds. $45 for two small salad-bowls of vegetables and 100 grams of rice? I feel like I was robbed. And to top it off, it reminded me of the regular $9-a-bowl mongolian stir fry's everywhere in Vancouver and Victoria.

Never coming here again.

We've been many times and have enjoyed every single time!

It's perfect for appetites of any size because you make your own portions. You also pay for your portion size (not one size fits all!).

I can't say that we've tried anything off the menu other than the buffet style stir fry.

You grab a metal bowl add meat(s), seafood a bunch of veggies (all of your own choosing) and top it with some sauce. I particularly like mixing different sauces.

There are little wooden sticks that you can use to sample each sauce (no double dipping) to make sure you like what you choose.

While you're waiting for your stir fry to cook you get a small bowl of soup. I wouldn't eat the soup as a meal, but it's good enough as an appy.

Your stir fry is delivered piping hot from the grill served on a bed of rice, or noodles that are available upon request. Hint - you can add noodles from the buffet if you want both.

Be aware of what you take (you can have it weighed as you go along if you like) because you pay by weight. I find this works great...everyone has become quite adept at taking just the right amount so that there is no waste.

Service has always been wonderful.

I think the foods awesome and the service was great.....the Lil red head waitress was absolutely adorable but she never text me :(

Done with these guys. Every time I go it seems to get worse, The food and service kinda stink. My son likes their wontons, but more and more often my food is over cooked and bland. And nothing like old cold coffee to wash it down. It started off so good.. It's a shame.

Third Time Unlucky. Our first 2 times here were fine with good food if poor service from a new and untrained waitress. But she was trying, it appeared.
Last night was another thing entirely.
The waitress has had lots of time to be well acquainted with her job but is still poorly trained and this is a reflection of the restaurant.
My wife had some bad chicken in her dish last night and nothing was said or offered in the way of replacement or apology.
My sons apple juice was fermenting with floaters very visible in the glass as it arrived and the girl missed it then did not offer to exchange it, just said "we are out of juice, do you want water"?
We will not be back.

Healthy and Yummy!. I love this place..and the Owner is an all star for running this little corner store/laundry/restaurant on the outskirts of town. Never had a bad meal, and even my kids eat it...just watch you weight in food, as that is how you are charged...try it!

Great concept. I love the concept of this restaurant! When you arrive you notice this long salad bar that has assorted meats, seafood, vegetables, and sauces. You grab a bowl at the start of the salad bar and pick and choose what YOU like to put in your stir-fry. At the other end of the salad bar your bowl goes on to a scale and it gets weighed and then you realize how reasonable the price is for your meal! Then the chef cooks it up in the back and gets served to you nice and hot and fresh. If you don't like stir- fry their menu has other things from sndwiches and subs to burgers. They also have a great vienemese section on the menu as well. Check it out you wont be disappointed.
