Slightly above-average sushi/Japanese restaurant in the medium-cheap price range. Some good specials and a good variety of foods. Lots of vegetarian options which my friends seem to think is important. Sushi roll sizes are a little small. Soups are good, bento box is good. I don't often think to come here but it's a good choice in the Oak Bay area, though I am unlikely to travel out of my way to come here. Average service. I find the atmosphere to be nice and comfortable rather than stuffy/dark the way many similar restaurants in Victoria are.
The space is very nice and they have good vegetarian sushi roll options. We also tried the vegetarian gyoza and it was very good. The service was also good and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Food is pretty good but not great, but all very reasonably priced. Staff is very friendly too. I recommend their gyudon.
Fits its niche as a neighbourhood sushi restaurant. Osaka Sushi has good sushi at a good price. If you live in the Oak Bay area, Osaka is a great option for a quick meal nearby. The decor is a good conversation starter, as the striped fabric feels like it's from the 60's/70's. Not a bad thing, but noticeable. I would say that if you're looking for good sushi in town, I wouldn't travel out of my way to get Osaka, but if I was nearby then it's a fine choice!
Great food at good prices. Very slow service phoning in or dining in. The resteraunt is cold. Service is friendly!
I like it. Unlike some of those reviews down below, I liked this place.
Had been meaning to come and try it, and my son finally dragged me along. Food was good, nice and tasty. As compared to other Japanese restaurants, it had a better flavour.
As to those that said it was too expensive. Pish!! Three of us ate here for less than 2 would have eaten at a couple of other places.
This is a restaurant I would come back to and would recommend.
Prompt service, good food. They need to have their seat cushions cleaned or replaced, though.
Awesome place for sushi. Dynamite roll is excellent. They need more sushi chefs though, as we had to wait 30 mins for our order. That was the only down side.
Really enjoyed it. Only had prawn tempura appy and beef yaki udon main, but both were tasty, fresh and hot. I will be back.
Great food here! Ramen is delicious, tempura crispy, sushi fish is fresh & flavourful. Definitely going back!
Delicious! My new favourite sushi place in Victoria!. I went here a couple days ago, and my roommate and I couldn`t get over how damn good it was. We both agreed it was an orgasmic experience. I ordered a couple dynamite rolls and a plate of salmon and tuna sashimi. He ordered a different type of roll and strictly salmon sashimi. The food was unbelievably fresh! The sashimi was cut perfectly with a nice set-up to ensure it was nice and cold. It melted in my mouth. They have specials during the week, like their deal on pieces of sushi for .99 cents after 8pm. It is easily accessible because you don`t have to worry about downtown traffic, and there`s free parking. If I had been on a date, I could`ve easily popped over to the ocean for a bit of romance. And on top of the delicious food, the staff was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant. I`ve tried a lot of different sushi places in Victoria, and after one visit, this place is by far my favourite.
It's a good restaurant. It's a good place to go when you don't feel like dealing with traffic downtown. They have free parking and it's clean and spacious. The food is good, nothing to rave about but it's decent. The decor seems a little cheap since the booths can shift, and I noticed they use tea bags for the tea instead of loose tea, but overall it's a fairly priced good place for Japanese food.
Nice Place Good Food.. Went here for lunch the other day. I had the Beef Terriyaki Bento Box special and for $7.95 it was alot of food. Miso Soup to start which was good, the beef terriyaki was tender nice flavor, the salad was a bit soggy, but the rice tasted really good and so did the yam rolls. ( I also had the $2.00 Tempura vegetable and prawn added to my lunch, wasn't really my thing, but others may like it). Hubby had an assortment of sushi rolls, which he really enjoyed. Service was very friendly and efficient, and the waitress kept our teas filled.
Been here many times good food good price give it a try.
Great location, good food!. Good sushi and cooked options at a reasonable price, great location and convenient free parking on-site. Owners are a young cute couple who try to ensure the food looks just as good as it tastes. Many of their sushi dishes are truly edible art.
They close quite early (9pm) even on weekends, but it is bordering Oak Bay where everything shuts down early.
It's nice to have a sushi joint in this area, so we don't have to go downtown and deal with traffic and parking. And, their alcohol is very reasonably priced - $3.95 for local bottle of beer and $4.95 for a generous glass of house wine! They serve hot and cold sake too.
Not too sure about home-delivery that they offer - I haven't tried it yet as sushi is best served fresh and cold on the spot.
Really nice food, great price.. Second dinner there, same great outcome. A really nice place. Maybe nothing crazy & innovative - just a very well rounded selection (sushi, sashimi, appies, lunch bentos, tempura meals, etc) at really reasonable prices.
Had Tempura Roll (nice, simple, the Dynamite roll comes with bbq eel), negitoro roll (block of tuna with onion, vs. chopped together, really fresh), spicy scallop roll (nice texture on scallop and perfect amount of spicy sauce). Sides of rice came with sesame sauce - mmmm-fabulous! Platter of 4 different skewers (10 in total) for $14 was great.
Closed on Tuesdays - but it's great having a good Japanese restaurant open on Sundays & Mondays when almost everyone else is closed.
Great service, value, and food. $9 for a filling lunch. I'll be back.
So good. My altimate favourite place since i was 3 8-) but it's a little pricy. So it's a good place to go once and a while.
Update! We have been frequenting Osaka sushi very regularly now. The waitresses and sushi chef know us well!! Our new favourites which we recommend you trying are the hand cones!! Love this place and am so happy to see that it is getting more and more popular each time we go!
Oak Bay has a little secret, there’s a great place to hit for sashimi and it’s known as Osaka Sushi. While the graphic designer in me cringed at the familiarity of a papyrus-like font in their signage, I’m glad I didn’t let it deter me from walking in to try their food.
SERVICE: Great service with prompt service, and friendly staff.
FOOD: We came on a Monday and miso soup was free. There are daily specials. The miso was great. The two rolls we ordered were well prepared and very tasty. The sesame sauce and rice was excellent. The tuna sashimi was excellent! It melted in oir mouths and was flavourful, the cuts were perfect, and properly cut!
ACCESSIBILITY: There is a level ground entrance with a standard pull door. The are tables with free standing tables with chairs and a few booths with fixed seating. Bathrooms are single occupant with wide doors and labeled accessible with a diagonal assist bar next to the toilet. The sink is about 30 inches high. The towel dispenser, however, is about 60 inches high.
Excellent value for the money, good deal on the lunch special, includes the Miso soup. Tempura very tasty!
Well-prepared, fresh, very good Japanese food, great service. Excellent all around.
Went here for the first time during their quiet hours so no one else was there except a friend and I, so it's hard to fully judge the experience from a busy standpoint. The server was quite attentive, however. Both my friend and I have multiple food allergies and she was able to answer and accommodated them. I'll admit their sushi rolls (or at least the one I got) was quite small, but I do like how they use real crab instead of imitation crab. I'll have to go back sometime and check out the rest of the menu items.
Nice atmosphere, great lunch. Great please to relax
This sushi place was close walking distance for me and since my whole family are sushi fanatics, we ate there and did take out very frequently. The staff were awesome and sushi really good. If we still lived in Oak Bay we would be continuing to go. I definitely recommend as a nice local sushi restaurant.
Quaint little sushi restaurant on Oak Bay's main strip. Friendly staff helped accommodate us with our young son. A nice sized eating area bigger than the other little sushi places along the strip. Good selection of your typical sushi restaurant. Fresh roles and dollar off sunomono salads on a Wednesday night went down a treat.
