Review Kasumi Sushi - Vancouver Island

Stephanie Cameron-Johnson
I grew up in Victoria and I have been going here for 10 years. It has been the best sushi I have ever had. I think Azuma sushi would be my second choice. Kasumi’s rice and steak sauce is by far the best and I will miss their spicy yam yam roll, spring rolls. Every time I go into kasumi they are hustling, they are always on the move to complete orders. I appreciate the years of tasty sushi, especially on a day I don’t want to cook, those are the best days. Thank you Annie and the fellow man who curates beautiful rolls. I am so grateful and so lucky to have got to experience your sushi.

Good prices and wonderful taste it was prepared quickly for delivery as well. I’d recommend they pack the rolls less tightly in the containers though as I had four (8pc)rolls packed in two containers which pushes some off the rolls into the wasabi and gingers and can muddy the flavour. Over all good and would order again.

Love this restaurant. I always order through skip. The deep fried cali roll is so yummy and the sunomono dressing is perfect! I would always go here as a kid and recently rediscovered it and now I probably order at least 3x a month.

Went there for lunch and was served good sized portions. Food was great, glad they added steak sauce to their menu since my last visit. I'll definitely be back.

This is my favorite sushi spot. Their Alaska roll & yam maki roll are delicious! 10% of your order if you pick up (always taking advantage of that!)

Dont look from outside like my first time came here, i am not really sure this place is good sushi or not. But u tey sushi and anything in there is very delicious and adorable price, not to expensive for what they have..

The sushi was good. This is a quaint but comfortable little restaurant with fast and friendly service. Prices are quite good, I will definitely be back!

Don't pass up Kasumi Sushi by judging the outside of the building. It is small, but the food they put out is absolutely amazing. Probably the best we have ever had.

Small place but good food. Had the suahi boat for 2 and it was filling! We love sushi and usually do all we can eat and the price for 40 bucks was a good deal.

We've ordered from here a few times and generally have had good experiences. Mostly we get an assortment of rolls, and often the sunomono salad as well. We've always enjoyed them. The last two times we ordered the teriyaki salmon dinner for our daughter - the first time it was good, the second time the salmon was dry and overcooked but that could just be a one-off.

EXCELLENT SUSHI! <br/>My hunny and I order take out from Kasumi Sushi at least twice a month. This restaurant is our go to treat. We are thrilled to have such a wicked sushi joint so close to home. Thank you Kasumi Sushi for always being open when we so desperately crave your food.

Fantastic and generous sushi. We just happened upon this place and were amazed at the quality. They have some of the best sunomono we've ever had, with more shrimp than you can count. We also really enjoyed their yam and shrimp tempuras.

Best Japanese Food in the Westshore Area. Don't let the exterior fool you. It used to be a chinese restaurant, then Akemi, then Yokohama, and now Kasume. It was probably something else before that. However, don't let that put you off as the food is awesome! We eat there at least once a week for lunch. We have the bento box and my wife and I love it. Dinner there is great too and the portions are large. The servers are very friendly and the food comes relatively quickly, considering they make it all from scratch as each order comes into the kitchen. Nothing is pre-made. Sushi is always fresh and very tasty. And as other reviews have said, the price is very reasonable for what you get. We highly recommend this place for either lunch or dinner.

Best in the Westshore. I have tried a number of sushi restaurants in the general area including the renowned Akemi sushi and Kasumi is my go to favorite , the value for the price is impeccable . Dont let the exterior or atmosphere fool you , they make great food !

Very good. Sushi in Victoria tends to be overpriced and not nearly as good as sushi in Vancouver and other big cities. We ordered some sashimi and maki from Kasumi Sushi tonight and were pleasantly surprised. The sushi was very fresh and flavourful and the price wasn't too bad by Victoria standards.<br/><br/>We will definitely try them again.

Great food - atmosphere needs work. First time eating at Kasumi last weekend. Wend with my wife and daughter. The restaurant itself is certainly nothing to write home about as it appears to be a converted house. Was pretty much empty on a Saturday around 6:30pm - I suspect they do a large amount of take out.<br/><br/>Service was nice, fast and pleasant. The food came quickly and was FANTASTIC!! I think they had the best tempura I've ever tasted. Large menu with lots of selection. Wonderful sushi and eve tried a beef teriyaki roll - quite nice! Everything tasted fresh and enjoyed every mouthful. We will be ordering their sushi again for sure!<br/><br/>We were sat in a back room that has four tables. It feels very sequestered and "lonely" like the previous review mentioned. They have a little outdoor pond and garden area that the waitress was nice enough to turn the water fountain on for our daughter. <br/><br/>Now, my main complaint is with the state of the restaurant itself and it goes something like this:<br/><br/>"Dear Kasumi Restaurant Owners,<br/><br/>If you go to the trouble of opening and running a restaurant, PLEASE spend an hour or so and CLEAN your restaurant!! My shoes literally stuck to the floor as I walked to our table. When we were seated, the FIRST thing I noticed was all the dirt and mold in the tracks of the sliding glass door we were seated next to. You have a neat little outdoor pond and garden - so how about you do some maintenance and upkeep of it and make it look nice and not run down and over-grown?!? The bathrooms looked like six 3 yr olds had a water fight in there.<br/><br/>Seriously, I don't expect perfection but come on - don't be so lazy and please spend some effort in making your establishment look respectable. It's nothing that some soap and water and perhaps a fresh coat of paint can't fix."<br/><br/>So I give the food a 9/10, service a 9/10 and the restaurant itself a 3/10.

I was a bit put off by the appearance, (lonely too) very good rolls and tofu. Great service and food, we will be back.

Not happy. I went for the first time last week with my friend we had spicy tuna rolls salad and tampura all were unimpressive, my salad was plain with mayonaise as dressing no flavor at all and the rolls were mushy the tuna was just paste. I will not be returning.

Meh....... First time last night. We were the only ones there at 7pm-ish, so that gave me pause...... but the nice server let us know we just missed the last customers of a full dinner rush. Nice little place. Service was great and friendly. We had the 2 person special w/ Prawn Gyoza and soft shell crab tempura. Over all just ok. <br/>-Sushi was quite good, though the spicy tuna roll was rolled a bit hinky. It was nice and cool as well. ( nothing worse than warm Sushi!) The rest was nicely done though. <br/>-Gyoza were the grocery store premade variety and we ordered prawn and got pork. Oops. <br/>-SS crab was pretty much cold and not very flavourful. <br/>- Price was just ok, given the low quality sides, which was too bad as the Sushi was nicely done. <br/>A bit off-putting when leaving was the family hanging out in the front doing family things. If the food was spectacular, then I'd not care if they sat at our table and talked politics. <br/>Give a 4/10. Will go for a second chance however. Maybe earlier in the evening.....

Much better since new owners. We have ordered from here for years for our family and we very disappointed with the food quality for the six months before it changed hands. It got some much better and I love the kids meals, and the kids do too, which is much harder to accomplish. Very good quality for price!

A Great New Sushi Place for Westshore. We finally got around to trying this place and the taste and quality of the maki sushi, nigiri and gyudon was excellent. The rice was perfect also. The prices were most reasonable. We will definitely be returning.

Excellent!. I've had dinner here a few times since Akemi left and Yokohama took over, and the food is fantastic. Much better than when Akemi was here! Great, fresh sashimi and wonderful rice with the nigiri. Friendly service too, just excellent all around.
