Review Choux Choux Charcuterie - Vancouver Island

So glad to have stopped by. The gentleman serving me took the time to recommend two amazing goat cheeses from Cypress Grove. They are so delicious. I will definitely be back for more! The cured sausages and chorizo were also excellent. Lovely little shop with attentive service!

Wow. We stopped in here today on a whim, and I am so glad that we did. The quality of the meats and cheeses is amazing and the people working there were willing to explain all of the different options to us. My only recommendation would be not to go in on an empty stomach, or you'll end up buying a package of everything!! We will definitely be back soon, and will be purchasing our deli meats here from now on.

Dropped in out of curiosity and walked away a happy customer! A younger gentlemen took the time to teach us about their products, and his enthusiasm and passion on the subject was palpable. We got some cheese and a sausage to try, and will most certainly be back for more. 10/10, A+ :)

This is my favourite charcuterie on the West Coast. I get excited every time I'm in Victoria, because Choux Choux has the most beautiful selections. If the owner is there...try to have her make selections for you...she puts together the most amazing things. I've watched her suggest things to the regulars ( a cheese they only get once a year, a particular meat) and then I've just copied what they got - and it's really introduced me to fantastic things. HOWEVER - if you eat Pate de Foie Gras - you really need to try the one here. It's totally ruined me for anything else. It is silky and has this savoury taste I've hardly experienced anywhere else in the NW. Foie Pate can be overly sweet...this one is perfect...sigh...just get it!

This is my favourite cheese store in Victoria. Every few months I visit and order our favourite cheeses like Don Heliodoro, Chevre Noir, and some Ewe's milk Roquefort, just to name a few.

Heavenly find. Has become a reason to live in Victoria. Try the sausage rolls and salads for inexpensive but world class nosh. Cheeses, pies, meats all great.

The best cured meats in Victoria hands-down. Try the Serrano Ham, Spanish Chorizo, Hungarian Farmer's Sausage and Pate de Fois Gras in particular. Fantastic food; awesome, knowledgeable staff; and a great vibe altogether.

Lots of variety and really delicious foods, but i wish that i could let less than 500g of each item so i could get more variety adorably.

This is my new favourite spot in Victoria. There is always a great selection of high quality meats and cheeses-- I'm on a mission to try them all. The staff is knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. Try their pâtes! I made the mistake of buying a single jar of the duck, cognac and orange pâte as a gift, but ended up devouring it myself as soon as I got home.

I have yet to try something from here I didn't like. The sausage rolls are consistently amazing, and the deli meats are some of the best in the city.

Thoroughly enjoyed an impromptu European lunch today with various cheeses, meats and the most delicious duck pate we have ever had. Thanks so much for the hospitality Candice!

Horsing Around Victoria
Winter weather brings on cravings for hearty braises and rich stews. While there is nothing we love more than pottering around the kitchen on weekends, harried weekdays don’t provide the time for slow braising dishes. Thankfully, the folks at Choux Choux Charcuterie can do the work for us. We recently hit up Choux Choux to stock up on their legendary sausages (we love the Toulouse, a juicy pork sausage with a hint of nutmeg and the earthy Moroccan lamb). Not content to stop there, we poked our heads in the deli freezer. Nestled amongst duck, fois gras, and other gourmet goodies were a couple of neatly packaged containers of house-made boeuf bourguignon, the a classic French dish consisting of chunks of beef with pearl onions and mushrooms, simmered in a rich red wine sauce. We couldn’t resist purchasing one to take home. We devoured our beef with steamed baby potatoes (to sop up all the delicious winey, mushroomy juices) with a side salad of spinach, flaked almonds and oranges. It was sublime. While we cannot take credit for this feast ourselves (hey, at least we made the salad!) we’d like to think Julia Child would be proud.

I go here for the ridiculously tasty Plat du Jour. There is a good selection of cheeses and a fantastic selection of meats. I wouldn't say their cheeses or meats are cheap but the plat du jour or soup of the day is totally worth it. I'd eat here every day for lunch if I could. Make sure to get there earlier than 12:30 though, they sometimes run out of a plat du jour but they usually have another thing ready that's just as delicious. I'm a bit hesitant to post this because I like that it's not insanely crowded like Devour, but seriously, this is good food here. More people should experience it. As far as I can tell it's authentic French/Mediterranean cuisine.

A real foodie gem and another of Victoria's best kept secrets. Almost hidden on a quiet section of Fort Street downtown, Choux Choux makes the best sausages and gourmet meat products in town. Tired of the standard issue factory product you've been a slave to at the big supermarket deli sections? Choux Choux is just the remedy you seek.

Like it enough to try again. I enjoy the idea of this place and I like what they offer. I have been tempted by their menu board many times but have just recently given it a try.

I was wowed by their selection of pate, sausage etc. however lunch was a bit of a let down, the beet salad was great, pate was nice, the soup was ok but didn't go with anything else on the plate and the bread was still slightly frozen in the middle.

I have to add for all of you who are gasping at the thought of frozen bread that it is not a big deal. You either leave your bread out at room temp or you freeze it so before you get upset about frozen bread take that loaf of multigrain out of your fridge.

So yeah freezing your bread not a big deal but just make sure it is properly defrosted before serving.

I still give this place a like because the value was great for what I had and I appreciate what they are doing. I will have to come again when I see duck confit on the menu board.

Wish you were open for dinner. I've been here a few times and been VERY pleased.
My first experience at Choux Choux was exceptional. I had the most delicious rabbit stew with fresh garlic bread on the side and I still think about it fondly to this day. The next couple of times I ended up just had sandwiches and even they were great. You can actually get a fantastic, fresh, authentic french meal here for $10.00. Check it out!

Always great. I've never had their lunch, but their house made charcuterie and sausages are always amazing. The staff are always pleasant and clearly trained well

Mmmmmmmarvelous..... Can't believe I waited this long to try this place. What a pleasant surprise. Try the Schinckenspeck, sliced very thin, it tasted nice and fresh. The Foie Gras with black truffle is borderline excellent. Applewood smoked cheddar is perfect and would be perfect melted on absolutely anything. The lean beef and fennel salami makes the perfect sandwich. They also carry fol epi breads so grab a baguette while you are in there. A variety of meats and cheeses to compliment your favorite wines makes for a great weekend.

Choux Choux is one of my favourite places in town - the quality is just always there. It's rare to come out not overwhelmed with some delicious purchase (or two). Their plat du jour is definitely where it's at... usually it runs around the $10 mark, it's different every day and always features a fantastic piece of meat with amazing vegetables. I think the key is, as with so many of the really amazing restaurants, fresh and local as much as possible.

The selection was rather small, but you could tell that a lot of care went into their artisanal products. While we were there, someone came by to pick up a whole hog, freshly butchered and wrapped in clear plastic – quite the sight.

Victoria has gone from being “one time only” to a place I can’t get enough of—for food....go beyond the tourist spots and you’ll discover, as I have, some pretty impressive eating options. Adding to my reports from 2010 and 2011 , here are some finds from my visit earlier this year.
