Average food, ok price. Bento box is decent sized. However, service can be at times lacking (even if they're next to empty) and drinks are not great.
The sushi here was great! We enjoyed everything we tried. Nice restaurant with a good location. Very good service. Would definitely come back to this restaurant.
I am a big fan of all you can eat sushi. This place has awesome, fresh seafood and well prepared dishes. The service is great. My only issue is that there are too many rules for the AYCE. They make you do math when ordering sashimi (of which I am a monster), so thats kind of a pain. The location and ambiance is delightful though, so you get the feel of going to a fancy sushi restaurant without the price tag. Great place for a date!
The most vile woman who was a customer here ruined my meal. I've never seen someone so antagonist and rude to a wait staff. I would have cried if I was her server. She accused her of things out of her control (like the standard sushi boats from the industry weren't really "clean") and got mad when she didn't get EVERYTHING for free.

Excellent. Shima is hands down a cut above the others. EC.We are from Calgary, the sushi here is way better. We tried 3 different sushi place while we were in Victoria, this one is the best. Tryh their Tuna tataki ,and hotnight roll so good.

All you can eat was WORTH it for the Sashimi. No one has sashimi on their AYCE menu in Victoria. There is a 10 piece limit per type of fish, per person, but it was perfectly chilled and a good cut of fish. The Yam Roll had the best tempura batter and fry and the spicy sauce was great. Good service, logical AYCE rules and worth the trip downtown. My husband and I will be back for the $19.99 price!

Great for all-you-can-eat!. We stopped by for lunch to try the all-you-can-eat sushi. There was nobody else in there, which worried us a little. The all-you-can-eat menu is short, but includes some appies, rolls, cones, and sashimi! Not many places in Victoria offer sashimi for AYCE, actually none that I know of. There is a limit of 10 pieces of sashimi per type per person and the wait staff will take only 2 rounds of menu orders from each table, so probably you want to order 60-70% of the food you know you can eat on the first order.
Well, the sashimi was cut in small squares, but who cares! Sashimi in an AYCE place in Victoria! The rice was a little on the stiff side, but that did not stop us form enjoying it. The rolls and cones were great and although there is no tempura on the menu, there were tempura prawn rolls/cones and tempura yam roll/cones. I was pleasantly surprised with the lightest, crispiest tempura I've had in Victoria and any AYCE place in Vancouver.
Possibly the cheapest AYCE place in Victoria at $19.99 any time of the day - that's lunch or dinner. Comparable to many Vancouver AYCE places for food quality, even better than some. I'll definitely be back.
Pretty good sushi and very reasonable price!. My boyfriend and I stopped by around 3pm for a late lunch and not a single soul was in there, it was nice and quiet and the rolls we ordered were good and the service was also good. Would definitely go again.

Good sushi, will go again. Went for all you can eat sushi and the sushi was pretty good. They don't give you much to choose from in the all you can eat menu. Service and food was really slow, we were one of three tables, each table had only 2 people and it took us 10 minutes after we put in our order to get our soup and salads. They charge if you don't eat it all. My friend left 3 roll slices and was charged $1. I'll definitely go again because the food was good, the restaurant was beautiful and it had a great view.
Classy restaurant with excellent food. We went to Shima last night and we had the beef short ribs, unagi avcado roll and bunch of sashimi (scallop Sashimi was awesome). It was the best short ribs i have ever had. it was well marinated and cooked nicely. I wish they can give me the recipe but of course, its their secret. bbq eel was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The sushi rice had hint of vinegar which a lot of the restaurants in victoria dont bother to have. service was ok, nothing too spectacular. love the seats by the tall windos. price was decent, and fair.
Good Food. Setting is gorgeous with 2 storey high windows. Had the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) bento box and yam fries with wasabi mayo dip. Bento was very good, the yam fries were excellent. Tonkatsu nice and crispy, though on the salty side. Yam fires, dipped in panko and the fried, were outstanding. Nice combo with the sweetness of the fries and the spiciness of the wasabi mayo. Would definitely go back.

The California Rolls there are the best I've ever had, and the Victoria rolls are spectacular as well! Everything tastes so fresh. We even got complimentary Edamame last time we went. Staff is friendly, the restaurant itself is beautiful. Highly recommended!
Best sushi in Victoria!. I've eaten here over and over again, and everytime I'm just amazed at how delicious their sushi and bento boxes are everytime! If you're going to try anything go for the Spicy Tuna Cones!
This is my absolute fave place for sushi! Sushi is fresh, chicken is fresh, seafood is fresh! And whoever said the service is bad is an idiot, they have the best service if u compare them to any other Japanese or Chinese restaurant. By far my fave place.
A hidden gem (kind of). I don't know why everyone goes to Azuma when we have Shima Sushi. They have a bar as well and it's downtown. You have to see this place just for the decor, it's awesome. It's spacious with high ceilings. It would be a perfect place to throw a party. The service is great and the food is good too, not my favorite, but it's worth it for the fine dining experience.
The service still needs some work - I've been here twice and both times it was noticeably bad. However, the food makes up for it in my books. I always live fresh crab vs. imitation cra"p". They have a nice variety of food.
Very Nice. We stopped here on Saturday after Swans for a little sushi and I was quite happy with the experience. Not many people there so we had excellent service at the sushi bar. It was well prepared and melt in your mouth fresh. The chef was very nice and chatted with us quietly during our visit. I will be going back for more.
Good but still working it out.... Went to Shima for lunch the other day and had one of the better bento boxes i've had in town so far, with a surprisingly nice cut of steak cooked perfectly and excellent steak sauce over the rice. Also had some Ahi Nigiri which was fresh and delicious. The only real hiccup was that it took almost 40 minutes to get my food on my 1 hour lunch break, but this didn't bother me much as they had a big flatscreen at the bar with March Madness on. :) The server also apologized a couple times and said her coworker called in sick leaving her to wait on everybody herself. All-in-all good experience and a really nice location giving you the option of either a classier dining area with views and nice decor, or a comfy bar with high def sports.
Yummy. I've been to Shima twice now and both times, the food was amazing. My favourite is the Beef Tataki starter and the Dragon Roll.
I'll def. go back again and highly recommend it.
A sushi EXPERIENCE! not just a quick meal. Most importantly, the fish and seafood here is so obviously fresh and great quality. The rolls are awesome and imaginative. It's so nice to try something a little different. I'd never had a Beef Tataki roll before and I loved it! You have to try some of the different martinis too. The Blushing Geisha is delicious. It's so nice to be able to go for sushi in Victoria and enjoy the ambiance and view. This is all helped by great and funny staff! Every other sushi restaurant feels like a fast meal, not an experience. This is a great place to go for a sushi date.
The cheesecake, however, was very nice with lots of real blueberries throughout, and it was a decent sized portion. My only complaint is that it was a little frozen in the middle, which makes me think they don't make this dessert on site. I also didn't think the Nestle Quik poured on the plate was a very good pairing.
I was also able to sample the tuna sashimi which was heavenly! From the one piece I tried, it was very .. I don't even have the words.
The presentation was stylish and the ingredients inside the rolls top notch.
Food tastes great and fresh , the staff was very friendly and attentive. Their special rolls are delicious. never go wrong with it.It is very spacious with high ceiling.I like it here.
Shima is one of my favourite sushi restaurants in Victoria. I come here often with my girl friend and we've always had an excellent time. It's definitely our "go to" place. The sushi is delicious and the atmosphere of the restaurant/building is lovely. It's never busy and the service is always very pleasant. I would highly recommend going if you haven't tried it.

Took a friend here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. There was just one waitress for the entire restaurant, there were about 7 tables with 1-4 people at each and she still managed to be attentive, quick and friendly. The monster roll was AMAZING! The tuna sashimi was fresh and melted in your mouth. I will definitely be going back. Not to mention the restaurant itself with it's huge windows and overlooking the inner harbor, it was a treat all around.
The sushi buffet though restrictive has good value and I would recommend it highly. When you get passed the condition you are served quality sashimi. Along with some tastey western friendly rolls and appetizers.
Wait staff is good and service seems to be good. It was a little slower when we went in but I would say they can handle a rush. The styling is interesting and there is a bit of a view though sadly the best part is blocked by a building.

Even though the restaurant does not look spectacular on the outside, it is a really nice place with a great view and a nice atmosphere. The sushi is delicious and the staff is friendly. Prices are reasonable. Also, during the day it isn't crowded at all - I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for sushi.
Seriously some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. $19.99 ALL YOU CAN EAT menu as well! As a vegan, I found it very helpful that everything was labeled whether it was vegan or not. Super friendly staff, amazing quality sushi, for a great price!

This is the first time I write a review on Google because the bad reviews we read here before we had sushis in this restaurant are not representative at all.
We are not die hard fans of sushis, but are foodies from Montreal and like to enjoy some raw fish from time to time. That being said, the quality and the size of the fishes and crab used in this restaurant was outstanding. Real crab. Big pieces of salmon and tuna. Fresh vegetables.
Yes, there was a bit too much rice. Those reviewing about that were right, but the pieces of fish were so big, making the sushi bigger and thus, ending having more rice around them. They could use less, of course, but this is not as dramatic as noted by others.
We told the waitress about the bad reviews on Google and that it was really not representative of the restaurant. She sighted and explained that they don't want to pay to hide bad reviews like other restaurants do. She also told that the previous manager was gone, along with the password of the account to manage the Google info on the restaurant.
That being said, if you are trying to find a good sushi in Victoria, you are in good hands with them. Bonus point for the nice decor.

Me and my sister are on vacation and love it here! In the four days we have been here we eat a Shima three times. The service is awesome and the food is amazing. Also the price is great for high quality food. Thank you so much. Next time I'm here I will eat here again 😁
Hand's down one of the best sushi i tried so far, the coho salmon is amazing, we stopped by on our day trip to Victoria, everything was very fresh, service was great and price were decent ! We definitely will be back on our next visit on the island, 💯 recommend for good & fresh sushi! All you can eat is not on during the summer.
Family meal, looking for sushi in Victoria. Saw this place driving by. The sashimi was OK, rolls were good. The volcano roll was my favourite, nice and spicy. Service was really good, she even brought out a small toy when our 1yr old got a bit fussy (ready to go and we weren't done eating yet). Kids liked the teriyaki chicken. I didn't like having to remember the rolls I wanted ordering to tell the server, I'm used to filling in the order sheet for sushi. It was very empty in here on a Thursday night.
We went to the all you can eat sushi and it was very impressive. The sushi was all very tasty and high quality and we could order as much of it as we wanted. We had multiple large platters of sushi brought to our table all for the one time payment. Its the go-to place for my friends and I whenever we want to get sushi
Great sushi, great service, good prices, and a great view. Beautiful stone walls and sunshine pouring in the big 2 story windows overlooking the harbour. People whining about the stairway carpet, or limitations in the all you can eat menu, or poor choices for friends that don't like sushi are giving very unfair reviews.
