The Blacksmith Bistro in Unionville got to be one of the best restaurant in the GTA. We were there a couple of weeks ago for a friend going away dinner and received a royal treatment from all staff from our server Chelsey, Arturo the Chef and even the Bus person Parveen. After sampling the Blacksmith platter, the beef Carpaccio (it got to be one of the best Carpaccio I've had) and fresh oysters on the half shell we asked our server Chelsey if we could have something for the six of us to share like family style dinner. Chef Arturo didn't just put together two great Surf & Turf platters that were not on the menu with Rib eye steak, rack of lamb, grilled salmon & squids, Salmon cakes he actually came to our table ( in the middle of the busy dinner rush) to explain each item on the platters and to make sure that were enjoying our food!
Being in the service industry for 30 years, I rarely write reviews about my dining experience. But the team at Blacksmith Bistro has truly re-defined excellent service by treating us like we were their guests at home and always saying yes with a smile to every request we have.

Four of us went and ordered different items in the menu. We all loved what we got. The food was tasty and the service was great.
I had my IBM retirement party at the Blacksmiths Bistro. Amazing venue and amazing service. Loved the ambiance of the outdoor patio and private bar area. Thank you for making the night go so smoothly. A great memory I will cherish.

We ventured here for my birthday dinner on a Sunday night, and found it relatively quiet. The interior is rather dark but the decor is cozy and comfortable, and I really liked the different levels and layout of the restaurant. For mains, I ordered the marinated flat iron steak ($27), which came in a sizzling cast iron pan. It came pre-sliced with roasted potatoes, jalapenos, bacon, carrots and string beans. While I did think being sliced and on a hot pan made the medium rare steak a little overdone in parts, it was still delicious. The dish was a bit heavy handed and after awhile, I found myself constantly reaching for my water glass.

So despite the negative reviews we ventured a bite at the scenic patios of UnionVille. Grilled calamari appetizers and draft beer came pretty quick and was tasty. The pasta and pizza dishes were excellent. It was a nice late afternoon and while the wait staff appeared somewhat on the tardy side - it was all the more fitting given the lazy hazy atmosphere of unionville and the art of people watching while sipping a Heiny...

Old reliable?. Monday night was very quiet. A couple of Happy Hour patrons on the main floor and some business suits on the second floor. Had calamari to start which was served on a warm mixture of green beans, capers, cherry tomatoes and topped with an alfalfa type of sprout. Nicely combined. Husband had a salad and we both had a glass of Prosecco and he ordered a second glass of red wine. I ordered the risotto with mushrooms and goat cheese, which was flavourful, and he ordered the hearty rigatoni with pulled beef, which was missing some pizzazz. Finished with creme brulee, but vanilla was all stuck to the bottom, which was a little disappointing - redeeming though that they used real vanilla. I was going to order the home made tiramisu, but was too full so I had the best decaf coffee ever. Service was fine and waitress and waiter checked in regularly to top up water glasses, ask if we wanted anything else to drink, ask how our meals were, and to bring more bread. Overall, we spent about $140 including tip and tax, which is a little on the pricier side. I would probably return, but not frequently - I'm not wealthy.
Great Experience. Great in summer, watching the people go by, and great in winter. Staff is efficient and attentive. The food is delicious and now under new management, the menu is no longer static, with new and exciting dishes being added constantly.
New also is Jazz on the back patio on weekends, a great addition!
The new manager is knowledgeable and given his empahisis on service, don't be surpised if he comes to your table to ask if all is OK, to ensure that your experience is a positive one.
Blacksmith's Bistro - love it. One of our favourite places to eat in Unionville. We've always enjoyed it, summer and winter, and now, under new management, it is even better. The food is great, the staff helpfull and attentive. The menu is no longer static, there are always new and imaginative dishes. Weeknds there has been a jazz band on the rear patio, but soon htey will need those heaters to be out there.
Go there, try it yourself and enjoy, and don't be surprised if the manager stops by to make sure that all is going well and to ensure that you have a positive experience.
AMAZING EXPERIENCE. I went to this restaurant on a very busy night with my wife and another friend couple of ours. Unfortunately, we did not make a reservation, however we were kindly greeted at the door and the charming lady did everything to accommodate us. The waiter told us the wonderful daily specials, which were delightfully appetizing. The service was great! And the food was mouthwatering. All in all a WONDERFUL experience.

Exceptional Dinning Experience. Went for dinner with my husband for birthday, Daily specials were outstanding, great ambiance, very friendly
knowledgeable and professional staff. Great acknowledgment at the door with a smile, I didn't make a reservation and they accommodated us, busy place. Good selection of wines. Will go again and recommend to friends.
