It has been several years since SWMBO and I were at Satay On The Road, so we thought it was time for another visit. Although it was a pleasant evening, and most people chose to sit on the patio, we chose to sit inside.
We started out with their Thai Hot & Sour Soup, which was both hot and sour, in a good way. Their soups are big enough for two to share.
Then we moved on to Nuer Phad Kraphao (Beef with basil & bamboo shoots). While it was tasty, for us the beef was not very tender, and took a few extra chews before swallowing.
Our last dish was the Pad Thai, with chicken, shrimp and tofu. Overall a nice dish, but three shrimp seemed a bit light.
Service was friendly and polite, although it did seem to take a while after we finished eating to get our bill.
Summary: mixed results, but still a nice place for dinner.
Friendly service. The curries were nice & tasty. The Satay and Pad Thai noodles not so much...more on the bland side. The appetizer platter offers a great variety but you don't get too much of any one item so if you're with a larger group you'll want to order 2 or 3.
Favorite.. I used to live in Toronto, and one of my family's favorite restaurants was Satay on the Road. Every time I come to town, it is a must to order from here. They still have the best Pad Thai I've ever had. My favorite Thai restaurant hands down, wish they had a location in Calgary!
Make sure you order the Thai Toast appetizer!! Seriously
