It has yummy food, and it came pretty quick I just wish they payed more attention to what else we needed like water or take out containers. Some of them acted like they didn't care
They have some good dishes but today I'll say they should remove the Pad Thai from the menu if they really don't know how to make anything close to the real thing. It's just an orange, saucy mess. Bad pieces of chicken. I've had this twice now, having forgotten that I did indeed buy it before. As soon as I opened up the container, the memories came back. As bad as it was the first time. Seriously. Either fix it or just get rid of it.
I eat here all the time. I am here all the time and they recognize me at Congee Star. I don't get any special treatment, maybe I should for the amount of money I have spent there over time.
If you want good Chinese food in the Don Mills area go to Congee Star - the food portions are large for the amount you pay.
Be ready to wait for a table if you go around 630pm.
I recommend the Singapore style spicy turnip and crispy chicken with garlic.
You know what you get at this restaurant and it's Chinese comfort food done right.
Good Food at a Good Price. There's nothing fancy about Congee Star, but then one doesn't really expect fancy at a Chinese congee place. We ordered chicken chow mein, tofu with vegetables and the minced pork and olive rice hot pot. The rice hot pot takes time to make so they warn you it will be about 25 minutes before you get the dish. It wasn't a big deal as we chowed down on the tofu and the chow mein. The rice came in good time. The portions for each are generous and tasty.
Very nice place, food is good, service is fine, pleasing atmosphere
Wonderful place!. Good food, good prices. Decor was nice and the staff speak english, cannot think of one thing to nitpick. The last reviewer complaining about if the rice has wheat is ridiculous, I doubt any restaurant would know the ingredients in their ingredients to give you an honest answer, now that's nitpicking! and isn't rice a type of wheat??
The food is really good, but I wasn't pleased when I found a piece of chicken in the Seafood Congee. If I order a dish with no meat in it, I expect there to be no meat in it. It says a lot about the cleanliness and food preparation.
Very Good. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants. Excellent food, huge portions and always fast and friendly. This restaurant is always busy, the only problem is finding a table! Their take out and delivery service is great too. Highly recommended!
There's a pretty good reason why I chose to visit Congee Star. In Cantonese, there's an expression to describe what we know as 'twinkie' or 'banana' - yellow on the outside, white on the inside. That term is called ' Jook Sing '. As for Congee Star, I'm n
Tucked away in a mall off Don Mills Rd, Congee Star has, without question, one of the most extensive menus of any restaurant I’ve visited recently… so much so that it’s tough to get a seat during the lunch rush, even if it’s a table for one. Good thing their take-out lunch special is equally as extensive. With over a dozen items, it makes it easy to do a little of the old “in-and-out.”If you boil-down rice for long enough, you get Congee. Its porridge-like consistency makes a nice base, and Congee Star dresses it up 30 different ways… served in small or large bowls. Whole Lobster, Scallop and Egg, and Roasted Duck are a few of the most popular, and bowl after steaming bowl flies out of the kitchen as I wait for my table. Not feeling Congee? There are equally as many Soups, Noodle Dishes, Rice Dishes, Hot Plates, Hot Pots and BBQ items to satisfy nearly any taste. Singapore Style Fried Turnip is a great starter. Crunchy and spicy, it’s a great way of preparing a veggie that I would usually avoid. The Yeung Chow Fried Rice is great for the table to share. It’s filled with a generous portion of BBQ Pork and Shrimps, and isn’t overly oily. Chinese Broccoli in Garlic Sauce is firm, and nicely compliments the Sizzling Plate of Spicy Seafood, Ginger & Green Onion.Don’t let the name fool you… With literally 300 items to choose from, Congee Star has something for everyone. Give it a try next time you’re in Don Mills. Bill, we’ve been talking about hitting this place up for ages. How about some time this week?
